The restaurant was cool, literally. It was 95 degrees outside but it was cool inside. The server came over and took our drink order as soon as we sat down. She took our food order upon delivering the drinks. The waitstaff and the kitchen get us out of there promptly. I ordered the Monte Cristo. The only way to describe it would be to say it's a sandwich that could be served at a county fair. It is deep-fried with a cranberry-pepper jelly. No one makes a Monte Cristo like this. I give this restaurant 2 stars due to the fact they make you find your own seating and in the summer time it can be very stressful trying to track a table down. Don't let the exterior fool you, this place is a hidden gem. Four of us went for dinner on a random Saturday at 5:30. Mind you it's not boat weather yet. We waited twenty to thirty minutes for a table because they had 237 or 247 reservations. We had the crab cake app and it was to die for. I had a salad with chicken, spinach, goat cheese, apple and I believe it was a bacon vinaigrette dressing , also to die for. Deck Down Under isn't five-star fine dining, but it's five-star pub-y seafood and spirits. Deck's vibe can be best described as "nautical naughty drinking fun for the six figure income/Grass Lake summer house crowd." For those of us who make your standard middle class salary and live in Jackson - we like the fifteen minute drive for good drinks and food. Deck's interior looks like a beach house. They often have an acoustic set on Saturday evenings. As a guy who hates guitar bros playing warmed over adult contemporary or Jimmy Buffet covers, this isn't my vibe. However, the crowd eats it up like catnip. What is my vibe, however, is the feeling that this is a hidden gem in Jerome, just outside of the Clark Lake area. It looks like a roadhouse from the outside. It's a haven from the long stretch of road with a dilapidated church, signs for free corn, and the requisite house selling elaborate flags (American, Confederate - ugh, flags with band logos, etc. If you live around here, you know what I'm talking about). The food is standard seafood and pub. Lot of white fish. Lot of fish-based soups. Lot of fried foods. However, they do it dang well. Oh, and the drink menu is much more extensive than is required to keep your clientele. They could coast on being one of the few party joints in the area, but they don't rest on their laurels. I normally get a pina colada - which is often the province of an Applebees. But, somehow, they make it taste like some artisinal drink. And there's an endless array of drinks and drafts. My husband grew up in Hillsdale Co . his remarks-- This is the best restaurant meal I've ever had in Hillsdale Co. I grew up in Metro Detroit. I am a sushi snob. We started with crab cakes, delicious and not too greasy. This is some of the best MR Ahi Tuna and green seaweed salad I've ever had. My husband ordered the swordfish special, everything was amazing. The presentation abx weeds our expectations. I had a pumpkin martini for dessert and we split key lime pie with kiwi sauce. Everything exceeded our expectations. Service was attentive, friendly, and prompt. Don't judge the place from the outside. You can tell by the number of cars, this is the place to enjoy your evening. We joined the rewards program! I kept driving by this place on my motorcycle and didn't even know it existed till 1 day I Yelp searched the area for places to eat.. Doesn't look like much on the outside so don't let that fool ya. Once inside you're greated by friendly staff and seated promptly. The decor inside reminds me of most seafood places in Florida and is very entertaining. I ordered the grouper pan seared. When it came to the table it was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the grouper and the homemade hush puppies and coleslaw. Not sure how to describe the coleslaw as it had a vinegar type base vs a milky type. The hush puppies had some good flavor as well and definitely tastes different than others around. The wife had a chicken ceaser wrap. They grilled it and she said it would be better cold vs hot. (Didn't mention grilled in menu, at least can't remember if it did) Was still good but wished it was cold. Great experience and will go again when in the area. read more

I've come here many times and I personally have never been blown away. I've also come during different times as well. Trying to give it a shot and a chance, as possibly I just came during a low rush time or a too rushed time. But every time I have come (maybe 8-10 times over the past couple years) has been subpar for me. And I've tried different food items every time coming. (This review doesn't include things I've gotten to go) and it's not that it's bad. But just not as great as I always hope and anticipate it will be because of all the hype that surrounds it. It's not my first place to go on date night. Not by a long shot. But it's a nice place to go when you have run out of options. Their pizza is very good though. I would get that to go more often. If you are looking for really great food and a fun atmosphere then check out the deck down under in Jerome. It is such a cool place they have the best clam chowder and the staff is always super friendly. They always do chef specials. The crabcakes are amazing. It's a very laid-back place and kind of a hidden gem. Usually it is busy enough that you would want to get a reservation, but with the COVID-19 stuff they aren't really needed. We are so glad they weathered the pandemic storm and continue to be open because it would be a huge loss. read more

The service is great - we've gotten the same waitress every time we've come and she's awesome - friendly and very attentive. The food is good too! When they ran of hushppies , clam strips , walleye, and calamari they have nothing else to compensate. just add extra greasy fries or extra coleslaw. if you want something different you pay up charge because their out of hushpuppies. French fries were tiny thin pieces and onion rings were soggy and loaded with grease. Waitress was new so she had no suggestions. we made it clear we were not happy no one cared. I've heard for years the food was good and was excited to finally be able to afford to go. For what we spent and the quality of what they had left we could order the four of us was very disappointed . Since their closed on Sunday and Monday Saturday evening isn't a good choice to go for dinner if it's your first time. That's the end of their week so the food choices will be limited and if its deep fried the oil will be old . If they happen to forget to put the peppers in your food no worry, they will send the new waitress out with them on a saucer. read more

One of Brooklyn's hidden gems. Went with my husband and another couple this past Saturday night. Didn't think this early in the season we would have to make reservations. We were told it would be a twenty to thirty minute wait and I was surprised , this was not a problem but I was surprised. They had 237 reservations for that night ! That's crazy. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a cocktail with very friendly staff members. Once we sat at our table we enjoyed a appetizer of the best crab cakes I have ever eaten. I had a fabulous salad with spinach, goat cheese, apple, chicken and a bacon vinaigrette dressing. It was fabulous. My husband had the half chicken and it was amazing. VERY IMPRESSED! This general area lacks great joints like this place! Staff was awesome, the food was GREAT! Crab cakes are REAL and handmade. Burger, nachos, panini and fish were all given a "thumbs up". Lose a star for the patio being very cold and not heating up during entire visit. Also, ordered extra ranch - let me know it is an extra charge so not shocked on the bill. Don't use yelp to make reservations!!!! I booked a 7:15 reservation at 4:30 and they stuck us in the back room. Where you couldn't hear or see the entertainment. When we went immediately up to ask how long it would be for a seat in the main area of the restaurant, we were told 2 hours! The young girls working obviously didn't care about our concern. I booked my reservation at 4:30..........????? This really made me look for things wrong with my food. When someone reserves on Yelp, don't set them in the back room. I got a recommendation from a friend to try this place while visiting the area. We (my wife and I0 were seated on the lanai, which is relatively new. The place itself is pretty junkie looking on the outside, but it is surprisingly decent on the inside. Our service was by a young lady who did a decent job. I ordered the nachos to start with. They were pretty decent and fresh tasting. We got 1/2 and order and it was plenty for the two of us as an appetizer! For dinner I had crab cakes. The plate came and everything (fries etc.) all looked burned to me. They didn't really taste burned. The crab cakes were pretty decent. They weren't amazing, but they certainly weren't terrible. They were quite edible. The fries were lousy, and tasted burned. The prices were a bit high for a place like this. If I were visiting the area again, I'd probably pass on going to this place.
