Deck Down Under is a cool little spot in the middle of no where on US-12. The décor in the place is great; has kind of a Joe's Crab Shack feel, only better. We visited on a Saturday Night and the place was hopping. Luckily they take reservations. The waitstaff and service was great. They serve both Pepsi and Coke products, and our drinks stayed full all night, which always makes me happy. As far as the food goes, it was decently priced so we did a lot of sampling. For appetizers, we ordered the Deck Dots (bread bites) and Crab Cakes, which we so-so. For entrées I played it safe with the fish tacos, which, to be honest I'd never had fish tacos before, and I wasn't that impressed. I ordered one fried, one blackened. Presentation left some to be desired, but they were edible. They were served with fries and I ordered a cup of clam chowder. The chowder was pretty good. My wife ordered the coconut shrimp, which she was really happy with based on the size of the shrimp. My favorite thing was actually the fried clams that my Pastor ordered. They were very meaty and had great flavor. Over all, I would definitely go back. I would most likely order something different; But it's a cool enough place. They also have weekly specials, but they seemed a bit pricey. In summary: Cool place. Great service. Decent affordable food. read more

Always happy to have drinks and dinner here...well up until recently. This was the first time there was no wait to be seated and there were only 2 customers at the bar so we decided to eat at the bar just for fun. But it wasn't fun. From the moment we sat down we felt totally unwelcome. And it never got any better, worse actually. Menu has loads of interesting choices...3 stars for that. This is a great spot. We were here on a rainy Saturday afternoon in need of dinner. The yelp site said there were n reservations available at 6:30 so we went with the intention of sitting at the bar. It was not crowded but, being bar people, we sat there anyway. Jeff and Katie and their minions were so good to us. I had the spinach, goat cheese salad with blackened shrimp. It was delicious. I wish that I had known there would only be 3 shrimp. Four or five shrimp would have been perfect. Given what I know now I would order more. My guy had a cheeseburger with onion rings. Incredible. He was so happy. As I had been a good girl all day I also ordered a small order of fries, well done. These are fresh potatoes. They don't crisp up like frozen fries. Skip these if you are a French fries crisp fries snob. Overall I encourage you to eat here. Word is the etoufee is something to write home about. I need to add to this review. I drink, my man doesn't. He gets dessert sometimes. I steal a bite. The carrot cake is worth the calories. All of their desserts are made in house. YUM! read more

Don't judge this book by it's cover. This is probably the best place to eat for miles and miles. Coming to dinner here is one of the things I look forward to every year on our annual trip to Lake LeAnn. It's always busy so make sure you have reservations. While they have normal food (like burgers, pizzas, and sandwiches), I always order one of the specials and I've never been disappointed. Last night it was white fish en papillote and it was AMAZING. I think the chef is a genius. I wanted to walk back into the kitchen and kiss him or her...but they were busy and I thought it would be weird. Service is always great and everyone is really nice. This place used to be good. Not sure if it's new ownership or new kitchen staff, but it's went down hill. The food lacks the flavor it used to have. Numerous mistakes on our order. The largest issue is its hits average food with bland flavor. Sad since the quality was good at one time. On a side note they advertise past specials that were hits. We had a large group of girls, 16 of us for a Birthday Celebration. Steven was our server. I warned him in advance to brace himself for our crew,,, Hahaha. He took care of us like a pro,,, in addition to his other tables inside. We enjoyed sitting in the enclosed patio, perfect ambiance. This place serves good quality food. The Monte Cristo sandwich is to kill for. I've had the oysters 3 times and 2 times they were great the 3rd had a little grit to them. The service is seriously so helpful and nice. The decore is a little off but it has a welcoming vibe to it. I highly recommend the crabcakes and the homemade wasabi chips. This is an unassuming looking place on the outside. Inside it is tropical decor and, on weekends, live music. They have the usual bar food and all, but the chef's specials (on the menu) and his weekend specials are very good and often a complex medley of flavors and ingredients. Any of the seafood items are good choices. For the budget minded, there are saiads, burgers, and pizza. Reservations are a good idea on Friday and Saturday nights. read more

Alright, quick overview for people who want the basics: -Don't go on live music night. The music was way too loud the night we were there. Not bad, just loud. -Menu is a good mix of seafood and American food -We only had seafood, but everything we had was good -Prices were excellent for the amount of food we recieved Now the full review. First off, let me get the bad out of the way. Yes, I gave it 4 stars, but there was one factor totally unrelated to the food that impacted our dining experience. We were there on live music night, which we didn't know about, and the music was turned up way too loud in our opinion. We couldn't talk easily, and the music made everyone else talk louder. That, however, was the only bad thing about our visit. On to the good! We found out about The Deck Down Under from Restaurant.com, where my dad had some gift certificates from. The restaurant wasn't hard to find, and is right next the road. Walking in, the first thing we noticed, unfortunately, was the volume of the music. Thankfully, we decided to stay, because we were in for a treat. Because we had the gift certificate we ordered 3 appetizers: crab cakes, "Boom Boom" shrimp, and a side of hush puppies. Yeah, we had plenty of food, but we were hungry. Out of these we really liked the shrimp and hush puppies. The crab cakes were decent, and came with a really good sauce, but were a bit too sweet for our liking. The hush puppies, which I ordered because it had been forever since I had had any, were very good. Unlike some hush puppies (*ahem* Long John Silver's *ahem*) they had more in them besides cornbread; they had vegetables and some sort of fish or crab. Anyways, we liked them and the serving size was very nice for the price. We also liked the shrimp. Well, my dad loved them, I just thought they were good. The breading was light enough not to overpower the shrimp, and they were drizzled with a spicy cream sauce. My dad also ordered clam chowder, which we all thought was very good. It had a good amount of clam in it, and had some interesting spice in it. We couldn't quite figure out what it was (might have been bay), but we liked it nonetheless. For entrees, mom and dad both got the grouper sandwich, while I got the grouper fish tacos. Each of these come with the option of having the group pan-sauteed, blackened, or deep fried. I had my tacos blackened, and I thought the fish was pretty good, although it was a little difficult to taste at times amid the toppings on the taco. It wasn't overly spiced, and it wasn't dry, so that was good. One note, the fish tacos come with slaw, as listed on the menu, and I didn't particularly like it, so that's something to note. I was able to take most of it off. I only had a bite of my mom's sandwich, but I thought it was good. It definitely had more fish in it than my tacos, but it was also more expensive, so that makes sense. Also, our dishes all came with fries, which were, in my opinion, delicious and perfectly salted. That said, I like my fries salty, so they may be too salty for some people. They're also really good dipped in the sauce that comes with the grouper sandwich. Anyways, now that I've written an essay on the topic, I thought all the dishes were good. Some stood out a bit more than others, but nothing was bad or mediocre. The price was good for the amount and quality of the food received, although our final bill was higher than it might have been due to our appetizer spree. :) One last comment: the service was excellent. There was no wait when we arrived, and I don't think anyone ever waited while we were there. Food came out quickly and at a good temperature (i.e. it wasn't so hot you couldn't pick it up). Drinks were refilled readily, and it was generally a very good experience. We will definitely be going back, just not on live music night. read more

THE GOOD: Let me start out by saying that i wont go to any restaurant within a 50 mile radius of "The Deck" because i enjoy it that much!!! The food is FANTASTIC and is priced reasonably for the size of the dishes served. May I add that all of it (especially the seafood) is fresh and always prepared perfectly when I order. The atmosphere is fun,tropical,family friendly, and the staff is AWESOME (and good looking) to say the least. That leads me into the second part of my review. THE BAD: Hmmmmmmm give me a minute..... NOTHING All in all, "The Deck" is a great place to have dinner with the entire family, or just go out to have a few drinks and chill. This restaurant is AMAZING! Last night we had our best meal ever! I had the Whitefish En Papillote. Fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was THE BEST! My husband had the perch and it was very yummy. We had Key Lime Pie and Creme brulee and they both were very fresh and delicious. It was (like always) a very busy night. Our service was not 5 stars but our server was doing the best she could. If you ever have the opportunity to stop by the great restaurant ...DO IT! Our party of 20 had the best time tonight at the Deck Down Under! It looks like a place that has the usual bar food but the food is anything but. The food was amazing! The octopus kids meal was adorable, we almost asked for a spoon to drink the sauce in the creole etouffe and the fish tacos are to die for. To top it off was the live music! read more

We loved this place until today. Wife ordered a grilled cheese ....she is vegetarian. Threw the chef way off....can only change to marble rye for 1.75 extra....not cheap people here...we were at the 40 buck mark with just drinks and appetizers before we were denied. In the past they had been accommodating to our requests. We are saddened.....such an easy request. We could tell there would be a problem as our server immediately left to check with the kitchen....strange how the chef can dictate the price of bread. Back in the Irish Hills for the summer. Deck down under is our go to restaurant. Great selection at reasonable prices. Food has never disappointed. It's not dining in New York City but for this area very diverse menu and great service. They have an excellent beer selection for the area. Wine selection is more limited. But it's our regular go to restaurant for ourselves and if we have a visitors. read more

The service was great, our table was ready when we arrived. We were quickly seated for our 6pm dinner reservation and our waitress promptly took our drink and food order. Drinks and appetizers were fabulous and we would get the beer cheese and seafood fondue again. Then our food came. Everything we ordered was over cooked, fried to long or was flavorless.
