I just received my firstever order last week and quickly opened and cooked the Mackerel. Mackerel are not considered difficult to fillet and are often described as easy to process, even for beginners. However these had way too many bones for a consumer ready product. The number of bones truly indicated poor/sloopy workmanship with little consideration for the end consumer. When I complained to the company they tried to say that Mackerel are hard to fillet cleanly - but from personal experience I can say that this is a lie - one just has to be careful and focus on product quality. These fillets should come with a warning label for the elderly and children - since they are dangerous!!! read more

Fantastic local business in Howell with great seafood selection; in addition to Michigan-made products, seafood dinner-related grocery items, spreads, dips, etc. Selection: literally any seafood or shellfish you can think of, they more than likely have it in stock and it's NOT freezer burned. Have lived in Florida for 6 years, I learned that jumbo gulf shrimp is life. They have it! And reasonably priced! There is also a fresh meat counter but the options aren't plentiful. I wish there was more but I'm sure that definitely depends on the traffic. Location: Tucked back in a strip mall behind arbys on grand river just west of Latson (less than 1/4 mile from Meijer); across from speedway. Not that they don't already do, but I think they would do stellar if they moved locations. That area is unfortunately a dying area....it may benefit them to move a little closer to that busy intersection and gain more foot traffic. read more

Tiny place in a strip mall off Grand River. Easy enough to find and good selection of seafood. We were there looking for sushi grade tuna, salmon and bbq eel. Walk in and checkout the wall of items available, along with the prices. There were plenty of people to help and pull items for you. They even have a great selection of sauces, spices and condiments. If you live in the area, they have coupons available in some of the circulars. I traveled from Chelsea but worth the drive. Greta prices, and people. I'll be back. I was so glad my wife finally got to experience this truck! I saw this truck a few months ago at the corner of Spencer and Old 23 in Brighton. I never usually get out that way, but it happens to be where the foot doctor is, so it was a happy coincidence the first time I saw it and stopped there. What happened next blew my mind... Instead of your typical fish freezer with only cod and perch, this place had a super broad menu of selections, ranging from sushi grade tuna to large octopus to every kind of freshwater fish I can think of, in addition to shellfish of all varieties. That first time I stumbled (literally, after the foot doctor) across this truck, I bought about $150 worth of seafood, thinking I'd never be lucky enough to find it again. The quality of the fish we cooked from that purchase was excellent. We still have the halibut left to enjoy, since I have been saving those fillets like a fine wine. I had also purchased giant prawns, which were soooooo good. We made steaks one night and everybody in our family got two giant prawns with their steaks - they were the size of little lobster tails and tasted amazing. Anyway, yesterday I was leaving the foot doctor with my wife and there it was again!! The seafood truck! Very exciting, so we of course stopped and she was super impressed with the selection. We bought another round of fish yesterday and she was very happy with the appearance of the fish when he brought out what we asked for. We got the red snapper, a bunch of lake trout and some other good looking stuff. Yes, the rumors are true....this place is indeed a bit pricey. However, when it comes to fish and seafood, I believe that you get what you pay for. Plus lets face it - giant prawns and halibut fillets aren't exactly staples needed to sustain life, these are luxury food items, so if you don't have a little bit of discretionary income to play with, you don't need to be anywhere near this place. The best part about it is that while talking with the operator of the truck, we learned that they are opening their very first brick and mortar location right near our home in Howell - and it is scheduled to be open before Christmas! read more

The Oceanside Seafood truck is like an ice cream truck, but with fish. I finally caught it and picked up some choice seafood. This is about as pure as you can get. Country of origin is clearly marked, so it's easy to avoid any seafood sourced from China. My catch included some jumbo scallops (wild USA), snow crab (Canada), sashimi grade yellowtail (Japan), octopus (Spain) and a few other prime pieces. So far I'm impressed. Went to the truck in Rochester Mi and bought oyster's on the half (I was really skeptical), grouper, orange roughy, smoked salmon and shrimp. Made oyster's Rockefeller and they were great! The orange roughy was fantastic, the grouper was good (I'll try a different recipe next time maybe it will be great), the smoked salmon was outstanding, made a spread with that for crackers. Haven't had the shrimp yet but looks great. I'll be seeing that truck again soon...everything very fresh, no odor...great! read more

A brick and mortar store in Howell that rivals any seafood market including ones near the ocean. The store carries sushi and sashimi items as well as the enormous selection of top notch fish and seafood. The store also has a fresh seafood case that is incredible with live shellfish and store made items. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and very courtesious. They even order fresh fish and cater to everyone. Definitely a "hidden gem" in quant Howell and if we miss the "famous trucks" we can visit the store anytime. read more

This is the famed Fish Truck that can be found at various locations in the Detroit area. You have to check out their website for the schedule of where the truck will be. I go to the Redford location on certain Saturdays each month. They park the truck behind the YWCA on Grand River and Beech Daly. But this is the thing. The Fish Truck is AMAZING. They have the best fish I've ever had at extremely reasonable prices. I eat a lot of raw fish and have never had a bad piece of fish from the Fish Truck. It's all frozen, so if you're one of those snobs who thinks never frozen fish is better, more power to you. Go spend 25 bucks a pound at some yuppie store and I'll grub on the 10 buck a pound Tuna/Salmon variety pack that melts in your mouth (literally if you eat it still frozen). The quality is unmatched and everyone I've ever referred to the Fish Truck has been impressed. All the Japanes people I know get their fish there (hint: they know a thing or two about seafood - you think?) and I've never met anyone who said - "man their fish sucked" Because it doesn't suck. It rules and the Fish Truck is a rolling monarchy of seafood satisfaction. The friendly guys who work there will tell you which of their fish is sashami grade (you can eat it raw) and which you'll need to cook. Most of the stuff I've had can be eaten raw. But some of the fish/seafood does need to be cooked, so make sure you check if you aren't sure. They sell a pretty wide variety of seafood, including prepared soups and chowders. They usually run a special, so ask about that also. And it's all so easy. They park the Fish Truck in a lot and you drive up, buy your happiness and drive away. They don't take Amex, but they do accept Mastercard and Visa (at least Mastercard for sure). If you like fish, you'll like the Fish Truck from Oceanside Seafood. Trust Clay. Just got lucky going home and passed by Oceanside truck, I have been wanting to try as getting good seafood in Livingston Co is not easy. Owner was very nice and knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable considering the quality, yes it's all frozen but when seafood is frozen correctly it is almost as good as fresh. I bought two Lake Perch Jumbo filet that were frozen in water in a tray (the right way). They were excellent! Served them to my dad who is a "fresh only" and he thought they were great as well. Also bought 2# of Pink Gulf Shrimp, they were peeled/deveined which saved me a lot of time. There were very good, no freezer burn and lots of flavor. I will definitely buy more and recommend highly. read more

Have you ever think that seafood in Midland grocery store stinks? Salmon in Kroger smells like rotten fish? Scallop in Walmart is tasteless? Not satisfy with seafood from Jack's or LaLonde? You need to try the fish truck that comes to Midland once a month from Oceanside Seafood. They park at the dunkin donut parking lot on S. Saginaw once a month. Check their calendar at their website: http://www.oceansideseafood.com They sell flash frozen sashimi grade salmon, tuna, scallop, and other fish. I have tried many of their sashimi grade fish. when you thaw them out and open the vacuum package salmon, tuna, and scallop smell fragrant. I have made sushi with these sashimi grade seafood many times and had no issue with it. The salmon and tuna are also great in the oven. Simply put some kosher salt and pepper on the fish, bake in and you are good to go. No need to add extra spice to get rid of smell, as there is no rotten smell to the fish. The tuna also taste great with a light sear. I have also tried their sable fish, it is great with kosher salt and ginger in oven. Just tried their snow crab legs today. $9/lb is a great price in midland. We got a three pound bag and that was a lot for two people. Huge piece of meat from the legs and even the body. Much better than those in kroger. One thing though, I do not recommend the seafood combo (squid, shrimp mix) it is not fresh and it tastes terrible. just buy seafood combo at local grocery store. read more

I signed up to be notified when the truck would be in my area. Didn't take long and lo and behold it was coming and very close by. The email contained a very easy to understand "menu" if you wanted to order and have it shipped but really if you're in one of the truck areas it was super easy. When you walk to the back of the truck, it has what is available with photos and prices on each side of the open truck doors. It was quite a large selection. I got the sashimi variety pack and two of the yellowfin saku blocks. The fish thawed out perfectly. No freezer burn whatsoever. I'm a big sushi lover and this fish was very good. Just great cuts of tasty fish along with the friendly gentleman who worked the truck made this experience one that I will use whenever I need fish in the future. For those who like to know, the worker was wearing a face shield and there was also plexiglass helping to protect customers from the worker. Really couldn't have been a better experience. read more

Just moved to the Pinckney area and was missing my local sea food/fish place. I don't like buying fish and sea food from Busches or Krogers so I went looking for something else. The reviewer below me (Clayton) convinced me that this was what I was looking for. The truck looked clean no funky fish smells and guy was very friendly. There were a couple repeat customers waiting for their stuff and they all had positive reviews. I bought 2#'s shrimp, 3#'s snow crab legs, 2#'s Mahi, 2#'s smelt and a bag of fry mix. Cost me 80.00. Had the smelt and shrimp for dinner and it was awesome! Much more fresh tasting then what I have been buying lately. The bags are flash frozen to preserve freshness. read more
