We had Davies take out a Colorado Blue Spruce that was over 50 years old. Only the top still had greenery left. These folks were there early but didn't start until 9AM on the dot so none of the neighbors were disturbed. Fast, professional service. They were done quickly and cleaned everything up extremely well. They will be back in a few weeks to take out the stump after they confirm the 'dig' area is clear of underground wires/pipes, etc. I would highly recommend these folks for tree services and lawn care. I would not recommend Davey Tree service to anyone. They are completely unreliable and non responsive. We hired them in April of last year and they never completed the services - we had to hire someone else to complete the work in August as they still had not finished and they still charged us for services they never rendered. Seth has been taking care of our lawn for the last two years, and we've never been happier! We had used several lawn care services, with varying results. We ended up with large patches of dead grass in both our front and back lawns. I requested to removed a tree and the damage they caused to my grass is unbelievable. now I will need to pay a landscaping co. to fix this proble. I worked with John Tobias and it was not a pleasant experience. He told me my tree was dying. When I asked a time frame he said 5 years, 10 years or tomorrow. He did not even walk around the entire tree. I was hoping for maintenance/prevention suggestions to prolong the life of my tree. He later stated a few items ( fertilizer..) and when I asked for him to repeat the items he told me it would be in the estimate. His professional skills were horrible. Why come out and look at my tree when you do not even walk around the entire tree. How can you not answer a customer's question but state it will be on the estimate. read more

Not particularly competitive on price (selected by my neighbor) - they took out the trees I asked them to. They knocked down my fence and didn't' fix it, they killed my bushes and flowers around the removed trees. The "stump grinding" consisted of cutting the stump down a little further and covering it with saw dust and mulch. I've used them for years and continually am pleased with their knowledge and professionalism. I have had many services, from new plantings to installing cables in my very large and old Maple trees, cables and ties to my huge arborvitae, trimming my huge trees, and bi-annual organic tea leaf injections into my soil around the Norway maple and Arborvita to promote strength and health, etc. Every service and recommendation has left me feeling very happy and good. We searched for a company that could provide quick service, yet be reasonable with their pricing. We needed the shrubs at the back of our yard trimmed and look professional and pull out two dead Burberry bushes on the side of our home so we could plant something new to add some appeal to our home. After agreeing on the project, they arrived, hurried through the work and left before I ever knew they were here. They never called or notified me that they had arrived and they left without saying a word. The crew trampled our flowers and left a mess for us to deal with. The Burberry bushes were just cut off at the base. The thorny limbs were left on the grass and the stumps were left in the ground preventing us from planting anything new. I would never call Davy Tree Company again for anything. Now we are going to have to call another company to come and fix the mess that Davy left us with. read more

I can see why their review ranks are so low. Looks like others were treated the same way as me. In my experience, reached out to them for a lawn review for any needs like aeration, over seeding etc. They said they would send someone out after several emails back and forth. No one ever came out and reported back to me with a quote. Months went by, I reached back out saying I guess that no one reviewed my lawn. The person who responded back said they'd get someone next week at the latest and get back to me. Another month has gone by and no response. Now it's just become comical how bad their customer service is when you are literally trying to give them your business. Having been a long-time customer, their customer service and scheduling has deteriorated and can no longer recommend Davey Tree. Having scheduled a large job 2 months ago, I had to follow-up as to when the job had been schedule. It wasn't even scheduled. They provided me a date when they knew they didn't typically schedule customers (day after Thanksgiving). Then rescheduled. Received what I thought was a confirmation the day prior to the appointment, only to have them cancel again. They come out every year to treat the trees without me having to call which is nice. I would give a higher rating but I had a guy come out about 3 weeks ago to get an estimate on tree trimming. Working on a proposal for 2 weeks with District Mgr. Thos.Weidner. Small errors in the writeup mean poor communication down the road. Subsequent discussion of what to prune, what not, and when lead to his stressed out responses. He wanted the whole Summer, Winter, Spring Program prepaid, because he saw "issues" popping up. What a joke. What an unprofessional, uncompromising Manager he turned out to be!!! I agree with the similar games played on the other 2-3 star Reviews. Hired for tree and shrub pruning, lawn aeration and overseeding. Pruning wasn't bad, but aeration was a spotty job and they spread grass seed in all flower beds. I used a leaf blower in an attempt to get seed out, but grass is now growing in beds thanks to their poor service. They also enrolled us in a evergreen service contract without our consent. Insult: nearly a foot of snow in November, and before Thanksgiving and everything. Injury: a giant tree limb full of leaves and snow falling onto my husband's innocent little car as it sat in the driveway. Yeah, and it damaged it and also made our driveway and walkway impassable. Tree limb needed to goooo. So I called a few places and honestly was going to go with whichever could get it taken care of quickest. As it turns out, that was Davey, and from placing the call to having the jerk tree limb gone was just over 24 hours. I don't know if that's typical, but it might be - the person I spoke to on the phone mentioned they'd had 60-something calls after the storm. So it seems they really manage their crews and jobs efficiently. That, or she heard the desperation in my voice and moved us up the queue (probably not - I wasn't even that dramatic). First an arborist came out to see what needed to be done. Evan called ahead and then was on time, and the consult took about five minutes. Then the crew came within about two hours and the work was done as quickly as possible. Then this: they cleaned up our walkway. They broke up ice and shoveled snow off so it was clear. We hadn't done this already only because the limb had rendered the path unusable - we're not total deadbeats. But yeah, that's going the extra mile. The cost was $285, which hurt but was worth it to have a usable driveway and walkway, and to get the limb out of sight and the broken area on the tree trimmed. The alternative would be what, buying a woodchipper and chainsaw and doing it ourselves and then reenacting the end of Fargo just to get our money's worth? That's silly. So, bottom line, not happy to be in the position to have a tree removed but really pleased with the ease and efficiency of working with Davey. read more

Our neighbors had a tree removed that was on the property line of our house and theirs. Again our neighbors hired them yet they made a complete mess of our yard, scraped up everything, broke several outdoor pots, and left a jagged stump. I am not unreasonable, an ugly stump is an ugly stump- I was not expecting a bed of roses or a Koi pond in its place. However, you can actually see the part in the stump where the guy was going to be decent and at least level it off with an electric saw and instead went "ah screw it" and left it as is. Now I know taking down a whole tree is a massive project but if you are doing a job that big you can certainly spend an extra minute to do the job right? I've attached photos of their subpar work. They never offered to replace the broken pots when contacted and instead had the audacity to double down & give me a quote on some yard work. Yeah... right... I'll be using any company but yours. Shouldn't have to chip away at half ass work with a hand saw myself & should not be out about $50 in outdoor pots. Removing a tree isn't cheap so why is your work ethic? read more

Advanced Tree Care does an amazing job for so much cheaper. Plus these guys basically got paid out to clear cut about 50+ mature oaks from an adjoining lot that was being turned into a gas station. I bet they first waited for the check to clear before they fired up the chain saws. read more

This is my second year with Davy now. Very, very good. The office personnel are wonderful to work with. The technicians that come out and do the spraying and fertilizing of my trees are great. They did take a tree down for me as well. There were a few damaged items, unfortunately, but my representative, gave me a bill credit to wipe out a reasonable amount for the damages. I know taking tall trees down isn't easy especially when there is very little room to work in. I would recommend them to friends and family. read more

Expensive service. We have used them for 5 years and all our evergreens are dying. When we called to inquire about the health of the trees, 3 phone calls were never returned. We got an estimate for repairing trees afte a storm and they never returned; trees are still damaged. We recieved an invoice for feeding the trees but we have never personally witnessed them on our property. When we called to cancel their services, they didn't even inquire and said: "OK." In spring Ryan came out to inspect the trees and we were told they were in great health. They had been carrying for the trees for over 25 years. In fall a storm went through and damaged the trees Evan came out to look and said the trees were in decline due to the storm. When questioned more John the manager came out to look and then said the walnut tree in the other yard is killing the tree. I took soil from the lawn and found the chemicals they were spraying on the grass was also in the tree and killing it and 32 other trees in the yard. I then called Bill Whitmyer the regional manager. He first said he would send out the company chemist and in his next breath said he was not going to spend thousands of dollars on one stupid tree. Is not the company name The care of Trees. Bill also told me that lawn chemicals have no effect on any tree yet the lable states is damaging to broad leaf plants They never did anything to resolve the situation. i was not happy with this service. they came to trim two trees and did a horrible job. the workers were left and our representative (scott) never came back to check on the work. when i called to voice my concern about quality of the work, i was told that they'd come back but it wouldn't be for a couple of weeks - they were busy. a new crew did come back - and did a good job but i didn't like that there was no follow up to the initial work that was done and was not satisfied with the attitude that scott had about my concerns. would not recommend them at all. read more

I called them to trim a few trees. Nothing urgent. The arborist came out assess the needs and to give an estimate. They mailed me an estimate. I approved the work and sent the estimate back to them with a deposit and the work was done within a week. The trimmed trees look good and they cleaned up the fallen branches.
