I received three quotes ranging from $150 to $300; the $300 quote came from Manitoya Tree Service. I decided to hire them because timing was important to me, and they offered to perform the service within two days. They showed up on time, and ten minutes later, the small stump was gone. The person performing the service was very friendly, and up to this point, it was five-star service. The disappointment occurred when I learned that I would be charged a credit card fee, especially since I was already paying the highest quote. My daughter runs a tiny business compared to Manitoya Tree Service, and she never charges her customers credit card fees. For that reason, I am giving them three stars, and I will not recommend this company to my friends and family. In my opinion, every business should structure their prices to avoid nickel-and-diming customers, especially when customer satisfaction is on the line.

I was willing to pick up burr oak rounds that Total Tree Care had left in a customer's driveway at Red Oak Drive in Highland Park, Illinois, as Total Tree Care did not want to pay to discard (thus, "free" rounds). If the homeowner tried to first save the tree with pesticides, these would leech into the wood and when burned, are unhealthy. That is why those questions I asked are important. However, missing two scheduled appointments with absolutely no call, text, or communication is unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. Taking time out of my day twice to meet with someone who simply doesn't show up shows a complete lack of respect for a potential customer's time. If this is how they handle basic scheduling and communication before even becoming a customer, it does not give much confidence in how they operate their business. Very disappointing experience.

After 8 calls and 6 no's I finally got ahold of Oakleaf Treeworks. Within 4 hours they came out for an estimate for chipping services ($250 in my case which is super reasonable) and they'll be doing the work on Friday. Just very very impressed with this local business!

Owned by married couple Miriam and Santiago, from my initial contact with Miriam to the initial visit with Santiago, I knew this was the right business to work with. We hired them on the spot to trim the four very tall oak trees and a hickory that live in our backyard. We initially called Oakleaf, because they are arborists and understand trees. I also knew they would climb each tree with love, instead of pull up in a truck and just chop away. And, I wanted to support an independent business. Last year our trees were misdiagnosed as having some issues. We received two over-inflated estimates to have chemical treatments pumped into our trees, and one company wanted to cut down a tree and remove a neighbor's fence to get to it. We were devastated at the thought of losing one of our magical trees. Turns out all they needed was some serious pruning. And, we even learned our oaks are 300 years old. After a few back and fourth text messages with Miriam to find a nice dry day for Santiago and his team to come out, we finally found a day. The guys came out with ladders and ropes and chipper machine. I was stunned to see them climb our trees and get to work. It was like an acrobat show! At first I was sad to see some of our legacy limbs go, but I no longer have to worry about our trees accidentally dropping dead limbs on our neighbor. After several hours, they guys went from tree to tree. They carefully moved our patio furniture on the deck out of harms way, and put it back like nothing happened. Also, when they left, they cleaned up absolutely everything. Very reasonable estimate. We are so grateful for Miriam and Santiago.
