I had to have dead a tree removed last month, and frankly I'm still upset about how they took the tree without attempting to contact me first. I wanted to take pictures. This was a 40 year old tree that my late Dad planted and I would have liked to see it go down. They did not call or knock until the tree was down and cut. It's as if they didn't want me to see them do the job. Very inconsiderate. I have thought about this a lot, and it was not a misunderstand, but rather intentional on their part. When the assessor came the last thing I asked was if they had my number. That would have been a great time to tell me you weren't going to use it, or knock until after the tree was down and shredded. I did not sleep through the knock, as I have a front door camera-nobody came to knock until the job was finished. It's really not acceptable. read more

My neighbor used them to trim trees on his lot. The branches fell into my yard destroying plants and landscape lights. The owner didn't care at all, shrugging his shoulders and telling me, "we're doing the best we can." Paul came out to my residence on Monday July 17th to give an estimate on trimming some tree branches away from my roof and the neighbor's roof. After explaining exactly what I wanted done a quote was given and accepted. He indicated that they could do the work on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of that same week and I would receive a call the night before the day the work was to be completed. Friday morning, the 21st came and no call. I called Ackerman and left a voice mail. The call was returned shortly thereafter, and I was told that the crew would arrive within 20 minutes, which they did. When they arrived, they had no idea what I wanted done as was discussed on Monday. I explained again what I wanted; however, I believe there might have been a bit of a language barrier. After the work was completed, I remember thinking 'Wow, they really took a lot of branches'. I didn't really comprehend what I was seeing until later. Not until I walked up to my bedroom with windows on that side of the house and there was the neighbor's deck, in full unobstructed view, about 20 feet away. A deck that had previously, and for many years, been blocked by the branches IN BETWEEN the houses. Then the full extent of what had been done sunk in. They had removed ALL the branches in between my house and the neighbor's house. Branches that were not even close to the roof. Why were these removed!? Now not only can I now see the neighbors on their deck, but they also have a direct line of sight into my bedroom! The privacy that these branches provided, that should never have been cut, is now totally gone! My wife even asked the neighbors what they thought of the trim job, and they said they hate it as they lost the privacy that the branches supplied their deck. My wife apologized profusely and told them that it was not at all what we had agreed upon with Ackerman and that none of those branches should have been touched. Also, it seems a bit strange that when I logged into my bank account later that afternoon to move money from savings to checking to replenish the amount of the check used for payment, that the check had already been cashed - a couple of hours at most after payment was made. I so, so, so wish I had gone with a different company. If you do use Ackerman for tree trimming, I would highly recommend that you watch them like a hawk, so you don't end up with your trees butchered like mine were. read more

They gave the best quote to remove two trees from our property. One of the trees was with in a foot or two from our neighbors fence that he puts up for Halloween. Not one branch touch his display. While removing the tree from our back yard they blew out my gutters. They cleaned up all of the small branches and leaves on the ground where they may have caused them to fall. My neighbor had the trim their trees at the same time and they cleaned more that the mess the trimming created. The owner Paul Ackerman was great to talk to and on site while the work was being done. Wouldn't recommend this company. Removed a tree and supposedly they offered a one year warranty if any roots are left underground to extract them . Well on the first 2 weeks , they came back once to grind one root and never showed up again even though we called and left over 10 messages. No receipts were given and they prefer cash payment with a discount which I wonder why. Instead of grinding or removing roots , they simply hide and bury them. Not a good business practice. It cost me more money to call other companies to remove the remaining roots which made the tree Ackerman removed very expensive since the job was not done well initially. They have no courtesy to return our calls as they got to know the reason why we were calling them. read more

We recently moved into a new house that had some questionable trees in the yard. In total, I had to have 2 trees removed, and 1 trimmed. Ackerman took care of all 3, exactly as I had imagined. They even removed the stumps, cut the tree limbs into smaller pieces to be used for firewood, and cleaned up when they left. My neighbor was having a tree removed & we they recommended Ackerman Tree service to us to remove two old apple trees that were causing some problems in our back yard. We called, received a call back right away, & Mike came out & gave us an estimate that afternoon. They removed both trees the next day in under an hour & they left my yard clean! They ground the stumps & even left us a little wood for our firepit (we talked about that previously). They even remembered to close the gate on the way out. Ackerman has taken down 3 of our large trees over the years, a Maple, a Sunburst Honey Locust and last month a Riverbirch tree in our front yard. My husband told Paul that I wanted to plant in the area after the tree was removed, so Paul said to just let him know and he would come back to take out more roots after they had removed the stump along with the tree. So after a month, my husband called Paul this morning to let him know we were ready to have them come back and remove unbelievably large clumps of roots from the area. I've worked the area nearly every day exposing all of the large roots I could so they could be efficiently removed and we could sod part of the area and plant Zinnias in another area. Paul was here within an hour with a crew and machinery and nearly every single root was ground down. I still need to remove some of the shredded root, but what a wonderful job this crew did! I would hardily recommend this company. They are caring and friendly. After working a good hour I asked Paul what I owe him for the job today, and he said, "nothing, I told your husband I'd be back to get rid of the roots for you". What a great company!! I had other companies not returning calls, saying they would come out and never showed up, etc. When I gave Ackerman the go ahead to perform the removal and stump grinding of my huge Maple tree, they came and got it done within 2 days. They also removed a dying crabapple tree inside my fence. They also got rid of some bushes inside of my fence. They removed this large tree in my townhome backyard within a fence. They didn't need to remove the fence and it was not damaged. My only complaint is that my a/c wasn't covered so there's a lot of wood chips in it. But no big deal. I definitely recommend this company. They were responsive, reasonably priced, polite, and cleaned up. read more
