The team showed up and did the tree reduction work well without damaging my property - that was my main priority! They were fast and did good work, I was happy with what I received for the price. That said, I did have an issue - communication. This is a relatively small thing considering the job came out almost perfectly, and that is why the review is 5 stars anyways, this is not a reason to not use the company, it's advice to the company on how to improve further. I struggled to understand the main gentleman's English (and I don't speak Spanish), I always feel bad and try my best, but it was a struggle for me. There was another guy who spoke pretty clearly and was clearly bilingual who came up later, and he was easier for me to understand, less accent, spoke more clearly/loudly. I don't think anything bad should happen to the main gentleman who was spearheading the communications, I am very satisfied with basically everything, I just wanted to clarify about how I wasn't sure I was understood or that I was understanding him at times. At one point I was second-guessing if he understood what I wanted done... I did actually go outside and check to make sure they weren't cutting the entire trees down instead of doing the planned reduction due to a misunderstanding. That's a concern you can avoid customers having by improving verbal communication, and potentially adding some written communication at the front of the service (it was a pre-existing quote, the quote had multiple prices/quotes on it. It only came out at the end, and i had to supply it as the customer). There was a very small disagreement about one tree limb at the end that was still kind of overhanging the house. They decided it was healthy and didn't need to be cut, but frankly it's a branch and leaves that will distribute themselves right over my house and into my gutter. It's by far the closest remaining branch and will probably be the first limb to cause me to need to get my trees trimmed next time. By the time it came up at the end, all the equipment was packed and most of the guys were not around, so the limb was left on. I felt like I was told that they were going to do a "looks good" with me before we called it quits, but I guess this was maybe slightly miscommunicated.. read more

We had a fruitless pair tree that had split right down the middle after a horrible wind storm. Although it was still standing, it was 25 feet tall and would have caused significant damage if it fell. After some ridiculous quotes I spoke with Mike, the owner of US Tree Service, who gave us an offer that we could not turn down. His team was out in two days 08/28/2025) and took down the whole tree in under an hour. Wow. Unfortunately, it was discovered that one of the felled branches hit a custom-made metal lamp that was in our yard that was mounted on an old cement street lamp pole. There was very rare glass inside the lamp that was smashed and the iron lamp was in pieces. Mike came out and did his best to fix it, even bringing it back to his shop but it needed to be professionally repaired. I brought the lamp down to a professional in Kankakee who works with stained glass and iron welds. It took some time to finally get it repaired, as it was a custom piece. Now here is where things take a turn in the right direction. Mike, owner, never cashed the check we wrote him for the initial work, cutting down the tree. I explained that I was going to bring it to a professional. The lamp was eventually repaired but the repair was more than the actual removal of the tree. I explained the circumstances to Mike and gave him the invoice of the repair. Mike was out the next day with a check that supplemented the repair bill. THIS is how companies with integrity conduct business! We all know it was an accident but the lamp was still broken. Without missing a beat, Mike made it right. We had 3 large silver maples taken down and stumps ground down. Our backyard where they are located was wide open , but the exit of the yard was a little tight. They did a great job protecting the pathways and any plants, shrubs and structures. I found them to be very professional, courteous, and very accommodating when it came to protecting my property. They were very easy to work with and answered any questions or concerns that I had. They were punctual and worked as a well oiled machine. Grinding down stumps and removing roots does make a mess, but they made the yard look very nice, The clean up was very, very adequate and Mike was extremely involved with project from beginning to end. My family moved into the area last year (our house was built in '63). I love where I live; lots of scenery in our back yard. Our neighbors have a HUGE Maple that I'd guess was originally planted when our homes were built. It had long branches overlapping the fence into our yard. The tree has some disease (tar rot, brittle branches) and branches fall into the yard regularly. The dog's a fan, but I'm not. A few weeks ago, we had a huge storm rip through the area. Carol Stream fared better than other communities (Lombard)... but during the storm while we were in the lower level, and I kept eyeing my neighbor's tree, hoping no branches would fall and hit our fence, property, home. Luckily nothing horrible happened. But I knew that I'd need to get the branches trimmed to reduce any potential property damage. Mike came out to give me an estimate. It was fine, and he had good suggestions (i.e. if there were no remaining branches with leaves, then cut to the trunk. Neighbor would obviously have to OK since the tree was on her property). The day OF service, I called for a time window since they had to access my neighbor's yard AND I wanted her to "OK" any branches being cut past my property line. I didn't want her waiting around on my behalf. I was told 2:00 p.m., and they arrived at 3:15. I wasn't thrilled that no one courtesy-called to update the ETA: I have young children to care for, and my neighbor had to leave for work. I expected Mike would be here, but he was not. We went through what I recalled Mike and I discussing, but since I'm not the tree expert, I wasn't 100% sure. I recalled as best I could, but deferred to The Guy in Charge, as he's the tree expert. During our convo and before the cutting, he was smoking and extinguished his butt in the dirt of my backyard, and left it there. ?! It wasn't picked up as far as I saw (though I could not locate it before the crew left ~40 minutes later). But it seemed gross and inconsiderate.. (In a conversation that night, my neighbor also brought the situation up.) I brought it up to Mike in a subsequent conversation. The appearance of my neighbor's tree - sans branches - is symmetrical. Ultimately, I think the job was done well. There is part of one larger branch that has about 18" of "nakedness," so I think that could have been trimmed down more. Further, there was a tree at the side that was cut more than I think we discussed, so I wasn't super thrilled about that. Clean up was pretty good, though they left debris (tree shavings) on some of the patio. When the crew left, I noticed that my neighbor's fence decor (privacy bamboo) had incurred some damage. I reached out via Messenger, and was given a quick reply. Mike scheduled to come out @9am the following day (Saturday) and actually arrived @ 8:30am. He came equipt with new replacement fence decor and adjusted the damaged pieces. I appreciate that he made the effort and also went a little above. For that, and for the excellent quote that they stood by (though probably cut more branches than originality discussed?) I'm bumping to a 5. Otherwise, I'd be a solid 4. I found U.S. Tree Service on Yelp after our lovely maple tree dropped a big ole tree branch on my car, breaking my windshield. The tree hangs over our fence and power lines, so their 5 star reviews made me feel pretty safe about using them. I found some things about the experience great, and others not so much, which netted out to about 3 stars for me. I placed a quote request via their website, and within a few days I had an estimate stuck in my door. The price seemed fair ($500 for a trim) and there was also a 5% off coupon in my local mailer so I booked the service. I wanted to get an early appointment so that I could hopefully work the 2nd half of the day (I needed to be home to open a gate for them), so I got an 8:30am on a Wednesday. The morning of the tree trimming arrived, but by 9:30 they had not yet arrived so I gave a call. I was told that they were running late. Ok, no biggie. Should still be able to head in to work after lunch. By 11am, I was feeling pretty irked. They finally did show up at 11:30, three hours late for an early morning appointment, which I was surprised at. I never got a call of any sort, to let me know that they were running late, to follow up, or to give an estimated time of arrival. Once they arrived they got right to work, and were done and out by 1pm. The tree trimming seems to be well done and thorough. They cleaned up the mess when they were through, and nothing was destroyed by falling branches. A-OK there. My feedback for the situation is just that if you are able to provide a bit more support on the customer-service end of things, it would be helpful. Phone calls regarding service running late or a call to provide an estimated time of arrival would be great! Either that or provide a service window rather than an appointment time, so that folks can plan their day accordingly (and more accurately). read more

I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this company before! The first time we needed a tree cut down, I got multiple quotes and ended up picking US Tree Service. We've had 3 trees taken down by them over the past 7 years. Some of the trees were badly rotted, hanging over the house, and in the middle of power lines. The price was more than fair and they did a fantastic job, even avoiding plants and cleaning up afterwards.
