Requested a quote through their website. Steve was out the next day with a quote. I was very happy with it, but wanted to do my due diligence by getting some other quotes. I called 2 others, who said they'd stop by and look at it. I never heard back from them. I called Steve back and gave him the go-ahead. Less than a week later, my diseased dead tree was gone and the stump was all ground up. The guys arrived promptly. They were very friendly and organized. It was a relatively small tree and they were able to make fast work of it...About 35 minutes from start to finish. They did a great job of cleaning up and blowing away debris. I have used Dawson Tree for annual trimming of BIG trees for about 5 years and any storm damage removal. But it was time for one of BIG trees to be taken down for safety's sake it has been dropping limbs during wind storms the past two years. I am soooo impressed with Dawson, always prompt, and professional. My tree base circumference was 93" and I estimate about 55' or more tall. It sits on my backyard which is on a 45 degree decline and is totally fenced in. However, nothing deters Steve and John and the crew. Veronica is great on scheduling and prompt and courteous replies. They are all amazing! Had to use a crane and a crew of 5 total and temporarily remove a piece of my wrought iron fence. Took 3 1/2 hours and some of the maneuvers were a sight to behold... neighbors came out and watched as they flew through the sky on a crane wire and then large portions of the tree also flew thru the sky to the trucks at the street. We just moved into this house, and received a handful of tree contractors to estimate what needed to be done, and Dawsons was the only one that not only took the time to explain why they knew what trees were in bad shape (showed us pictures of what they should look like, etc.), but also whose conclusions ended up matching what we felt was most sensible to do for each tree (removing the irreparable ones, trimming down the challenged ones to give them a chance and reassess next year). That was 2 trees to remove and a handful others to work on. I didn't know how long it'd take, but I assumed it would be pretty involved. They showed up at 7.30am, a crew of about 4, and got it all done basically that morning. Wow! They cleaned up the place real well too. They get the job done within a timely period and they work quickly when they are here. I docked one star because this summer we ran into the problem of calling them several times and having no one answer and no answering machine to leave a message. In the time it took Dawsons to come out I'd already had two other companies come out within 24 hours of reaching out for a quote and offer dates to complete the project. Before I said yes to one of the other companies I waited to get someone out from Dawsons (bc of other positive reviews) and once I got someone it then took at least a week to get the quote (even though upon walking the property I was told I'd get a quote within the next two days). When I reached out to Dawsons's to quote out a small job, they did exactly as they said they would. They came out in a timely fashion, quoted the job and left the estimate in my mailbox so that I didn't have to be home. This gave me the freedom to call them back at my convenience without being pushy. I received two other estimates (one from a supposed tree service out of Addison that I also found on Yelp- the other from my landscaper who didn't carry the right coverages for insurance in order to help). Yes, they were both significantly less expensive. However, climbing trees requires the right coverages on the business side of things. My landscaper didn't have it, and the other company didn't bother to return my phone call in a timely fashion AND cancelled my original appointment the night before and again didn't follow up to reschedule. That's certainly not how you do business in this competitive day and age. If they did get back to me as they should have, maybe I could have verified all was good and they would have likely "stole" the business from Dawson's. I realize now that would have been a mistake. Dawson's did GREAT work, came out when they said they would, returned two phone calls promptly, and gave me the confidence to refer my business clients to them as well with how they treated me. I was also appreciative that John (owner) took my call and tried to help me with pricing to be slightly more competitive to eventually earn the business. Keep up the great work Dawson's! read more

I had an overgrown maple tree in my front yard. Its shallow roots and heavy shade combined to kill a large portion on the lawn. Called Dawson's to get an opinion on options. Steve came over a few days later to assess. He said that pruning by itself would not help to regrow the grass. I asked about root pruning, and he said it would only be a temporary solution. So I decided to take the tree down. The crew came over a few days later to do the job. They worked very efficiently and professionally, and removed and tree and cleaned up in about an hour. These people have no compassion and apparently no insurance. They were happy to take cash payments and all these referrals from us, but didn't lock or close our gate and our dog almost died because of it! We were very considerate to them and kind considering the circumstances and all they wanted to do was blame anyone but their business. Typical. Now we have thousands of dollars in recovery for our pet and fines and everything because of their lack of attention not finishing their job. Never again with this "business". If you have kids and or pets beware and double check their work because they don't do that part of their job themselves. Such a shame. Luckily we were not gone or we would probably not have our pup today god forbid!
