On June 24,2026 at 6:51 p.m. a major wind blew thru our yard. We were not home at the time. There was severe damage throughout our neighborhood and along the gas line adjacent to the back of our property. We had a silver maple tree in our back yard that had to be 100 years old. We have lived here since 1976. Brown Tree service had cleaned and trimmed our trees 4 times over the years. The wind that blew through ripped off 4 major branches 12-18 inches in diameter. 2 landed in our garden bed on top of our potatoes, 1 landed on our fence, and 1 landed on another garden bed of ours. Our tree was not diseased at all. In fact, the branches that were ripped off looked very healthy. We called our Aborist, Ken Brown that night. When he was able to get back to us (about a half hour) he'd be here by 6:30 the next morning. He was true to his word. He walked out back, surveyed the damage and said that this was going to be a removal, not a salvage. He said he would have a crew on site within an hour. Again he was true to his word, the crew was "johnny on the job". The crew worked so well together. They also had to take care of another tree that had also lost a branch but just needed minor cleanup. Ken was by several times while they were working. It took all day but the clean up was fantastic. He told us that because of the other tree damage around the area he would be back the following week to grind out the stump. Once again, on the following Wednesday, his man showed up and really ground out the stump. He was here for three hours making sure that the stump was ground out almost a foot below ground level. Ken Brown has always done a professional job maintaining our trees and did a superlative job. We plan to replace our tree this fall after consulting with Ken. We wouldn't trust anyone else to do it. I needed a large dying 45 ft tree taken down in my backyard and a big sycamore that needed pruned, cut back and shaped. Called the phone listed and talked to a real person (Mr. Brown) on my first attempt. We scheduled an appointment for the next day. Mr. Brown showed up on time, he elevated the situation and gave me what I thought was an honest bid. We ended up taking down 3 trees and grinding the remaining stumps. This company's equipment is top notch, clean and well maintained. A team of four professionals did the work statement in five hours. My yard was raked, and all the debris were removed. I absolutely recommend Brown Tree Service. I give them 5 prefect well deserved stars read more

Tree Removal We had a very old Oak that needed to come down due to pests. We picked Brown because they are the absolute best in the area. The company is professional and thorough. This was the 4th time that we have used Brown in over 15 years. They are knowledgeable in all aspects of tree health, trimming and removing. The crew was polite and thorough. There was no mess to clean up after they left and this was a very big tree. Brown might not be the cheapest company around, but they are THE BEST! They have all the equipment that might be needed, and a hard-working crew. I would definitely recommend Brown Tree Services read more

Brown had previously removed a huge tree for us and were very professional so we hired them to plant some new bushes. Ken was very helpful in the selection and the crew did a great job. My neighbor needed some trees trimmed and some vines removed from their chimney. They were concerned about hiring an insured company that used safe practices. I recommended Brown and my neighbor was very pleased with their work. I highly recommend this company John P Mount Prospect read more

We've used Brown Tree service for many years to trim our Huge Maple and smaller star magnolia. Always great results at fair prices.

Brown Tree Service was out to trim our trees and replace a broken cable on a very large River Birch. Perfect job as usual with a very professional crew. Ken Brown is awesome and very responsive. We hired them to pull out thick evergreen bushes from around our whole property and take a tree down in 2019. They did such a great job that we recommended them to our neighbors looking for some bush removal and had some additional ones removed on our property. We talked to him yesterday and they were out today. Ken also recommended some tree trimming that has made our only tree look great. Would HIGHLY recommend; very reasonable! read more

I called on Thursday May 23rd to schedule an appointment for tree trimming. Mindful of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, I said any time after Mem day is fine for a visit. 9 days go by since my first contact, and without any prior warning, this dude strolls up to my door at 4:40pm on Saturday June 1 ready to appraise my tree. We have a newborn who was woken by the unannounced, unscheduled doorbell, and I was unavailable when he arrived. Making myself presentable to walk outside and greet "whoever was at my door" (didn't know it was even the tree guy yet), he introduces himself as Browns Tree service... I reply, why didn't you call for an appointment? He retorts, "oh I get like 900 calls". That's not a valid excuse...End of convo. I asked him to leave. I will be using Winklers Tree service. read more

I have used Brown Tree Service for at least 15 years. I have used them to remove trees, plant new trees and bushes, do a yearly trimming and pruning to keep my trees healthy, and some cabling. Their crews are professional, respectfu, and do a great job with cleanup. I highly recommend them! read more

I have used Brown tree service multiple times this year. The first time, was two remove two 40+ foot pine tress from my property. Not only was the crew on time, they were also safe, knowledgeable, confident, excellent communicators, and cleaned everything up. We had tree damage from the recent ice storm, and one tree in particular was in bad shape. It was half dead anyway and we were considering removing it even before the ice storm. So we called Brown and Ken came out and looked over the situation the next day. He gave us an estimate and when we came to an agreement he had a crew over the same day. The crew was very professional. They carefully went about cutting down the tree in pieces. They were very organized, friendly and professional. They cleaned up the debris and not one spec of damage was done to the rest of the yard landscaping. I highly recommend Brown! read more

Ken arrived at my house the same day we called to get help with a large Silver Maple tree that was damaged during an overnight storm. Two huge branches fell and partially damaged a neighbor's smaller tree. Brown's crew arrived the next day and cut up and removed the limbs. They also removed the damage done to my neighbor's tree. Ken recommended that I have them clear up some dead branches remaining in the maple. The crew finished in a few hours and my back yard appeared cleaner than it did before the storm. I was pleased that the company sent along with the work estimate proof of their liability insurance. I would recommend Brown's Tree Service without reservation. Was looking for tree trimming service for a few trees. Found Brown Tree Service in the yearly Best Pick Reports Guide. Called 3 times, each time leaving my contact info and work needed with someone who I felt I was bothering with my call. Seems like it may be an answering service. To this day I still have never received a call back from this company. I have found another company who answered, came out for a quote and did the job. I can't comment on the work they perform, as I couldn't even get ahold of them, but initial customer service is lacking. read more

Brown Tree service does a wonderful job pruning trees. This is the 2nd time we have used them to prune our huge pear tree. The men were very caring about the tree working quickly and efficiently . Little Sisters of the Poor St Joseph Home for the Elderly in Palatine has had the pleasure of calling Brown tree service their tree company for the past four years. There are over 400 trees on the 16 acre property. Ken the owner is a true professional arborist and is truly passionate about the tree business. He is knowledgeable of every tree and the specific care and requirements for each variety. He gets much joy out of helping pick the perfect tree when replacement becomes necessary. We usually hire Brown Tree for a day at a time and a five man crew shows up. They have had to take box elders down right along Northwest Highway and a pond on a slope which was very difficult but they made look easy. Our campus is riddled with silver maples that were probably put in because they are fast growers, but are not the most decorative trees. In one day, i'm always amazed at how much the crew is able to get down and everything cleaned up quickly. When they leave The property, you know it has been enhanced and looks more wonderful than before! Thank you Brown tree read more

Good start, disappointing finish. I paid Brown Tree Service $5,706 to trim and prune six trees -- a box elder, a white birch, an apple tree, two Siberian elms and a silver maple. Most of the work was done in June. It went well until they got to the last Siberian elm. One of the limbs extended over a power line. I wanted that limb cut off to avoid any future problems. They trimmed half the tree, and left the other half untrimmed. Was told they would have to contact Commonwealth Edison to get the power shut off, and that would be a lot of trouble, and that they would submit a separate proposal to cut off the limb over the power line. They refunded several hundred dollars. Waited three weeks and got no proposal, so I hired another company to cut off that limb over the power line. They did not have the power shut off. Four months later, on November 5, Brown Tree called and said they would remove that limb over the power line the next day. No mention of shutting off the power. I said the work already was done, and the man on the phone congratulated me for taking care of it. A mixed experience with Brown Tree Service. Most of it good and professional, and excellent cleanup. But that last tree was left half done, and I had to find someone else to finish the job. read more

Marty came to look at our large maple tree and gave us an detailed explanation of the work that needed to be done. A crew of four came a few weeks later to perform the work. I couldn't believe how fast and efficient they were. They completed the job in around two hours. The yard was cleaner when they left than it was when they arrived. The entire crew was pleasant and professional. I will definitely use them again. I am very happy with the work that was done and will recommend then to friends and family. Invoice #29900 read more

We have had an agreement for over 6 weeks to do some tree trimming and a tree planting. Despite numerous calls(6) to request a work date, no calls have been returned. It turns out that when you call, you are just getting an answering service and "I'll send your message over" and nobody returns your call. Some of the phone numbers listed on the internet "are no longer in service"-- Including the number on the Better Business Bureau site. Hmmmm...if you are having work done, confirm the REAL phone number before the estimator leaves your home. Otherwise, you may never get a scheduled date or a return call. read more

A seamless process from start to finish. While I was still waiting for other services to call me back, Martin had already been to my house when he called me and was able to give me an estimate and talk through options on the phone. When I had a question he couldn't answer he swung by the house again. Ken did an excellent job in keeping me appraised of when the work would be done. The crew did a great job and an even better clean up. Highly recommended! read more

The owner recommends cutting down trees that we're fine, just to drum up business. If you really need to cut down a tree, have Brown's do it. But beware, he will try to convince you to cut down other trees just to make money. Last year he told us to cut down a great Maple. read more

My husband and I have used Brown Tree Service in the past and have always found them to be efficient, friendly, very competent, and competitively priced. Marty Brown came out to do the estimate in a timely manner, which we also appreciated. this past week, we had them remove some dead limbs from our Linden and Maple. Both trees are very old, and we've been trying to save them, by pruning heavy unwanted limbs, cabling, and shaping. The workers who were here this week were careful with the underbrush which is just starting to bloom. They also did a good job cleaning everything up - including the patio. We very much appreciate their all-round good service, which is often hard to come by. read more

We've had Brown Tree Service help us with trees in our yard for the past 21 years. They just came yesterday to prune a big tree. This is the second time we've Had Brown Tree Service trim and/or cut down our trees and each time they did an excellent job. In both cases, we had very large silver maple trees, 60+ years old, that were hanging near or over our house. The workers very carefully removed branches and then trunk without any damage to structures or vegetation. This week they removed a large mulberry tree in a tight spot behind a tool shed and next to a fence and did so without harming our neighbor's vegetation, our vegetation or the toolshed. The tree trimming was also expertly done. These are arborists who really know what best for your trees. We felt the price was very much in line with the quality of work that was done. read more

Marty gave us a competitive quote on removing a huge (2+ story) ugly Chinese Elm that was encroaching on the garage. I couldn't get him to give me a specific day when they would come do the work, and they did come about a week and a half later than he originally estimated. When they did show up, they finished the whole project in about 3 hours, including clean up! Good price, efficient work, friendly crew. I would definitely use them again and recommend them. The big ugly tree is gone! Yay! Thank you! Invoice# 30651 read more

2 stars for responsiveness. If you live anywhere in the city don't bother, they apparently don't work in the city. I've seen other reviews from people on the west or south side and they don't go there, we're far NW side of the city, bordering the burbs and we're too far in the city. Would have loved to work with these guys given the great reviews everywhere. If they don't want to work in the city they should probably remove that from their service area on the website read more

I had a great experience with this company until they actually attempted to schedule a tree to be removed. They responded quickly and provided a quote ASAP. Upon signing and dating, I waited a week, which is standard, until Ken Brown called to tell me "we're doing your tree tomorrow." He was adamant that tomorrow was the day. Well tomorrow came and went with no sign of Brown Tree at my house, and worse yet, no call to let me know that they would have to reschedule. I left two messages with their answering service and still did not hear from them. Two days later I called and told them that the tree was still standing in my yard. Ken Brown called and was apologetic, stating that "he thought the work was done." He told me that they would come take down the tree early next week. I then received a call from him the next Tuesday, telling me that they would do the tree "tomorrow." I received a call from a crew at 7am on Wednesday morning telling me that they would take down my tree that day. Once again, the tree was still standing at the end of the day. I cancelled my contract with him after being blown off twice. It would have only taken one simple phone call each time to say "we're hung up on another job, lets reschedule." But there was zero communication. It was obvious to me that they were likely picking up higher paying jobs and squeezing them in at the expense of my contracted work. That's understandable, but you at least need to communicate delays to your customers instead of making promises and not delivering on them. Three people told me in separate phone calls that they were going to take down my tree and I'm still left with a dying tree in my front yard that remains standing because they can't keep their agreements with their contracted customers. read more

Just had a great experience with Brown Tree Service. Martin came out last year to look at our trees and make recommendations - he is so knowledgable about trees. We had a Serviceberry and Redbud tree that were both overgrown. When I emailed them to schedule, they came out 2 days later and did the trimming fast - the trees both look much better, were trimmed into a nice shape, and they did a good job of cleaning up afterwards. Will definitely use them again in the future. read more

My elderly mother contacted Brown, thinking it was a lawn service. Not only did the guy not correct her mistake, he quoted her $800 for a one-time trimming of the hedges on 2 sides of her lawn!! This did not include any other yard work. Ridiculous and terrible the way he was obviously trying to take advantage of a little old lady, thinking she would just pay that obscene amount. He also most likely thought she wouldn't know how to write a bad review online! read more
