Dry, Dry, Dry! As we were selecting, we noticed all the cupcakes appeared to have cracked cake tops.. But I was so excited to find the truck and we really wanted to try them! I really wanted to love.. But the cake was very, dense no tasteful flavor. We purchased 3 - Andes mint, vanilla caramel, and triple chocolate. All three were the same dry and no taste. After eating half of mine I decided not waste anymore calories on a dry cupcake and tossed the rest. Very expensive and disappointing...seems they put all effort into marketing with a cute truck and skipped the quality on the most important thing- THE PRODUCT (the cupcake) Save yourself the expense and skip or prepare for disappoint. read more

I have had the cupcakes numerous times from friends potlucks and such. (Red velvet, bananas foster, maple bacon, chocolate peanut butter.) Fortunately, I only paid once because once is enough to get bamboozled. Great, great customer service, but I was very disappointed after reviewing all the positive comments on Facebook about how delicious cupcakes were. We purchased a dozen; 2 of each flavor: 1. Red velvet - dry and it tasted more like chocolate cake ,and we weren't happy they used vanilla buttercream rather than cream cheese 2. Reese's - extremely dry chocolate cake, it seems as though it may have been over baked. The frosting wasn't all that...it was chocolate ganache with pieces of Reese's PB Cup. Idk if in the middle was dry peanut butter? 3. Oreos - Again, dry chocolate cake and the filling was good like the middle of an Oreo cookie, but the top wasn't impressive. Just crushed Oreos?!? 4. Snickerdoodle - It wasn't bad...just a very cinnamony cake & buttercream. Could have been a little more moist. 5. Maple bacon - If I had to chose, I'd get this one because it does taste like a maple cupcake with chopped up bacon, but not an ultimate "the best cupcake". 6. Old Fashion - This was the best out of all 6 cupcakes. Yellow cake was moist and flavorful, but the chocolate frosting lacked the chocolate taste. Overall...presentation wasn't appealing. Wow. I threw away cupcakes... I've never done that before. First off, the guy working the truck at the Pocket Area food truck event was super nice. Customer service +1. The product is just awful! I tried the pink champagne, the Captain Crunch, and the lemon coconut. My other half got a caramel something, a chocolate something, and a pink champagne also. These cupcakes look pretty- then you realize why they can stand the 90 degree heat in a window of a food truck in the middle of the summer. The frosting is some of the worst I've ever had. It's a solid sugary mass.. not sure if it's nothing but vegetable fat and sugar, because it's waxy and weird. Gross! The cake part is well, okay. In the pink champagne cupcake they put this strange pink goo in the middle. The lemon coconut cupcake had bright yellow goo inside. I don't need this artificial "goo" in my cupcake. Cupcakes of a box definitely are better and cheaper. These are not up to par with the offerings of other northern california food trucks. They deliver with product and service. THis has service with no product. You guys need to rework your product! People will happily pay $3 for something DELICIOUS! This does not taste like a delicious handcrafted food truck product. Wow, I get to be the first person to review this cupcake truck! First of all it is wonderful idea. Turlock needs more of these great businesses! We first heard of "The Cupcake Lady" because we saw her very PRETTY IN PINK cupcake truck going down Berkeley one day. Our interest was piqued! We looked up her route on the website and unfortunately she does her route during the week only. We both work out of town, but for you in-town workers, lucky! The hub and I were both lucky to have to today off so....we thought hey let's track down that truck today! We looked up her route on the net and saw she was parked over on Walnut and Tuolumne(ish). We drove up there and no cupcake lady! We were there about 10 minutes past her estimated arrival time and no pink truck. I looked her up on twitter and it said she was just arriving at Mervyn's which was her previous stop. So obviously she was running late. Oh well, we went back up to Mervyn's and we saw her there, woohoo! They have some interesting flavors to try, Cap'n Crunch, Maple Bacon, Pink Champagne, Lemonade and some standards, Black and White, White Chocolate Raspberry and Chocolate. The small ones are (mini) size the large are standard cupcake size. They run for $1.25 and $2.25 respectively. They had already run out of the large White Chocolate Raspberry so we ordered the Maple Bacon, Cap'n Crunch and Black and White. I also order two small (mini) White Chocolate Raspberry and Chocolate. Yea, we are foodies 'til death and we had to try a few, ok? hehehe I tried the WCR first, the frosting, delicious, the filling, equally amazing, the batter was pretty standard. Moving on to the Black and White, it looks like a much more delicious and carefully created Hostess Cupcake, but let me tell you nothing like it!! It is delicioso and decadent. Hub tasted the Maple Bacon.This cupcake is FRAGRANT. I am not a big maple fan, but it smelled amazing. Hub let me have a little taste and it tasted like a pancake! I mean in a good way, damn! Last the Cap'n Crunch, this by far was my favorite and the reason for this review. It blew my socks off! It tasted like a moist, dense, scrumptious bite of Cap'n Crunch Cereal. My tastebuds were more than happy! So 4 stars for the more that delicious cupcakes better than "Frost". Like a gazillion times better. 1 star off because we couldn't find you and we drove around Turlock a little, and bc you ran out of my favorite WCR in Large. And here it is folks...the food truck phenom has spilled into the valley and it begins with cupcakes (the most important of the food groups!). I am in full belief mode that this truck and it's owner fell from the heavens because the angels needed to watch their figures. The cupcakes have just the right ratio of oh so delicioso frosting and moist cake. Flavors are out of this world too! So cutesy and girly. -Decent Prices: $2.50/cupcake Here's why she lost 2 stars: -Quality! Sorry to say it but the frosting was excessively sugary to the point that it was actually sickening. The cake part was good, but the frosting was overpoweringly sweet. I took bites with just a smidgen of frosting to just have some frosting and even then, it was way too sweet. In my opinion, what makes a good cupcake is the perfect balance of the sweet frosting marrying with the cake into a perfect blend of flavor and sweetness - "balance" being the key. This cupcake was just average and was disappointing. Sorry cupcake lady. Work on the balance of sweetness in your frosting and you'll have another sale from me. Saw this truck yesterday while shopping and decided to get a little treat for the family. My older girls got a snicker doodle and caramel frappucino cupcake and loved them. The presentation on the caramel frapp cupcake was very impressive with the little straw in it. My little ones all had birthday cake ones and my husband and I shared Mississippi mud and the works. One day I was driving through the suburbs and I spotted a pink truck. I stopped to peer at it and it said The Cupcake Lady. My husband looked it up on his phone and we learned about it. We proceeded to look for it for over a year. Finally, one day, I saw the truck parked. This was my chance. I happily ordered a small quantity of cupcakes, since I love cupcakes, and took them home to gorge on them. They... weren't for me. They are extremely sugary, with the icing being almost granular at points, and I am just not that type of cupcake fan. They were interesting, yes. They were pretty. They were fun. They were unique. I have to admit that I was drawn into the mystery that was the Cupcake Lady. For months I saw her driving around Turlock & Modesto until one day my coworkers & I decided to track her down at lunch. The first flavor I had was the Maple Bacon and I was hooked {I thought}. That was the best cupcake I had ever had....I mean bacon ANYTHING is good, right?? So later that week, hubby and I found her in Turlock. He had the Maple Bacon, which he loved, and I had a Salted Mocha Caramel. Mine was dry and not very good. But I didn't want to write her off just yet, so when she did at stop near my work one day, I bought some Pink Champagne & Red Velvet for dessert that night. Tried the cupcake lady a couple weeks ago when she was in Tracy. It was the second stop of the day for her & by the time the truck made it to Tracy, the selection of cupcakes was low. So when I saw that the truck was coming back today, we made sure to go pretty close to the time she said she'd be arriving into town. We are SUPER glad we did. The best cupcakes we have EVER had! I look to see if she is in the Modesto area often. I wish she would visit Manteca more often though! I don't understand why many say the cupcakes were dry. I have NEVER eaten a dry cupcake from her! I buy them by the dozen and even freeze them and they are still excellent when we thaw one to eat. Also, I wonder where those that complain about them being from boxed cake got their degrees in the culinary arts. Only one identifies as a Baker but, I'd like to know where her bakery business is so I can try her cupcakes? That goes unmentioned. This same alleged Baker also stated the caramel vanilla cupcake was salty. If she had looked closer at what she purchased, she would have known it was a "salted caramel/vanilla cupcake". Duh! I don't know how she could be a baker with the amount of time she spends critiquing others on yelp posts anyway? We have had just about every flavor and love them all, some more than others. The "salted caramel/vanilla cupcake" is one of my favorites, along with the lemon coconut. With all the compliments about the maple bacon cupcake, I will try that next time I see her as it is one of the only ones I haven't tried. I am not fond of bacon. However, since it has the salt flavor I like on the "salted caramel/vanilla" I bet I would love it! I am going to ask her to bake a wedding cake/cupcakes for my daughters wedding cake. I contacted cupcake lady for a fundraiser for my AVID class at Patterson High. They agreed to give us 20% of sales for the night during parent conferences. They were suppose to give us pre-order forms, they never did, nor did they respond to multiple emails and phone calls. The day of the fundraiser they were late, then they left without giving us the 20%. Since then they have not responded to emails, or phone calls. The frosting is so disgusting! It's some kind of grease (think crisco) and sugar! Faux buttercream! The strawberry cheesecake had some weird strawberry flavored goo in the middle that was worse than the frosting.
