I came across this spot while out in the field for work and decided to stop in. The selection was a bit overwhelming at first, so I asked the staff for their recommendations. I ended up trying a chocolate chip cookie, lemon bar, mini confetti cookies, and a boysenberry pocket--which was my favorite. The cookies were decent, but the boysenberry pocket really stood out: flaky, held together perfectly, and full of flavor. The ambiance was inviting, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they also offer a variety of sandwiches and other menu items. I've but tried the custom order cakes so I can't speak on those, but they sure look pretty. Specifically, the Pineapple cream cheese cake is what is we really like. It's more like a coffee cake style cake, or like a giant pull apart filled pastry than like a cake. Definition: Pineapple cream cheese cake: a giant pull apart pastry filled with gooey sweet and savory goodness! We also like certain of their seasonal cookies. Amazing pastries! We went to a birthday party and had the Best cake. Not a huge surprise that it was from Olde Tyme Pastries. Just amazing every time. I haven't been disappointed by anything from here. Anywhere else I'm a pie guy but OTP gets me going cake. The service is okay. The ambiance is nice. All that really matters is that the deserts are the best. I was not impressed by the service here. When I arrived, I was told to take a number but ended up walking back and forth between the deli and bakery with no direction. After waiting 15 minutes, I finally went up to the bakery counter since others who came after me were being helped. Only then did someone ask if I had been helped. When I said no, I was told I had to order my sandwich at a different counter. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a chai apple pie drink. The sandwich itself was fine, but pressing a croissant on a panini grill made the bread hard and unpleasant--if you order a breakfast sandwich, I'd skip the press. The drink was where things really went downhill. I asked for less apple juice and more chai, but the remake tasted exactly the same. When I asked for clarification, I was finally told the drink is made with apple juice as its base, so it was never going to taste different. As someone who works in customer service, I feel the barista should have explained this upfront rather than remaking the same drink. On top of that, the barista seemed annoyed when handing it to me. The gal who made my sandwich was friendly, but overall the service felt unorganized and frustrating from start to finish. Sadly, this was my first and last visit. read more

wish I could write a better review. I went in store to try their sandwiches because people bring the pastries to work and they are good. The food is yummy, unfortunately the service is terrible! Especially for the price point. I have tried at lunch time and breakfast and There is a huge wait for them to take your order and get your food...even in the am when there was no line really. They have one person taking phone orders, making the food and taking walk in orders. One girl is just over there making coffees ignoring everything else around her. My son was craving cheesecake, and after looking up places online, he decided to order a raspberry cheesecake from Olde Tyme Pastries. When we went to pick it up, the place was pretty busy, so we had to take a number to get helped. The wait wasn't too bad, though, and the price seemed reasonable considering the cake was a good size. I'm not a fan of cheesecake myself, but to me, it looked dry, and the jelly or topping on it didn't seem very appealing--it looked dry as well. Because of that, I wasn't even tempted to try it. My son, on the other hand, was super excited since the place has a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, he wasn't thrilled after tasting it. This weekend we ordered a cake for my sister's birthday gathering. We had to provide the cake decoration. We specifically asked for whipped frosting because generally buttercream is too sweet. My family usually scapes it off. We picked up the cake before they closed on Saturday evening and it was covered in buttercream. It was too late to do anything. Service was AWFUL!! Not one person greeted us or smiled at us. Absolutely terrible. The girl that helped us seemed so miserable and she was rude. We had never been in before and weren't sure what the process and she was annoyed when we asked her about a menu item. We have been coming to Old Tyme Pastries since the last century. I would frequently drive my family over 30 miles each way to get their wonderful pastries and cookies. I haven't been by for a few years as my kids are now grown, but I went there today. I was very much disappointed. The pastries and cookies are smaller than they used to be and cost more. I get ht3 cost more, but come on, the cookies were small. The croissant was micro. The pastries we ordered were stale. We don't understand how that could happen as we ordered at 8am on a Monday. It used to be that the stale items were pulled from behind the glass and put out at a bargain price. The pastries were definitely either baked and prepared poorly or were stale, or both. This bakery is near and dear to my heart . We been customers since the early 80's when they had a bakery in Ceres, off Whitmore avenue. My mom would take me there for treats and to pick my half sheet cake for my birthday every year until they closed the ceres location. My favorite cake was and still is the white cake with fresh strawberry filling. Every-time I walk in I'm instantly transported back in time to my childhood, as soon as the sweet smell of the bakery hits me. The cookies, cupcakes, the chocolate mouse that hit my eyes as if I was a child again. The instant happiness that embodies my soul is like no other. I now buy my babies their special birthday cakes and take them to pick a special treat for special occasions. There has not been one time where I have left here displeased! I have been coming here since before I can even remember. The desserts are always fantastic and usually the staff are very nice and helpful. The fruit basket cake(which isn't really a cake but more of a tart), the beehive cake and the napoleon are some of my family's favorite, though I'm more of a cheesecake kinda girl. Every flavor of cheesecake they have is delightful! The one thing I don't like about here is the lines lol, they are so popular that they are usually very busy. Overall the cakes and cupcakes are moist and have a good amount of sweetness. But this place isn't perfect, so some things can be hit or miss. Food: the soups and sandwiches are good. They aren't anything spectacular. A little on the pricier side, but the homemade bread makes it worth it for the most part. The sandwiches come with a cookie and a pickle. They also have redbull infusions and other caffeinated beverages. Service: hit or miss. I always make sure to greet the workers and treat them kindly. But some of the younger women have somewhat of an attitude. Which is annoying because no one wants to deal with that. If they don't want to answer questions about cake flavors, maybe they should have place cards with the dessert names and flavors. On the hand, The older lady that always seems to be there is always sweet and doesn't mind answering questions about the cakes. Side note- I don't think Prepaid orders should have to wait in line. I've ordered custom cakes from here on 3 separate occasions, fully paying the amount due each time. On my pickup dates, I'm always told I have to get a number and wait for my turn. Which is frustrating because sometimes the wait is an upwards of 25 minutes, just to pick up an order I already paid for. They should have a separate checkout for prepaid items. read more

Oh this place is great! My bestie introduced me to this place years ago. Now I find myself stopping here before or after visiting her. It's a pretty big place. Tons of seating. Friendly staff. You can get everything from coffee to a sandwich to a cookie and a cake. Everything I've had here is really good. Let me start by saying that I have been going to Olde Tyme for years and the food is fantastic. It does tend to be on the pricey side, but the quality is worth it. However, I had not been in for awhile and stopped by several times recently to get a muffin and coffee. The coffee was excellent, but the gourmet muffins were a disappointment. They use to have a nice muffin top and plenty of walnuts (harvest muffins) or sugar crumble on top (blueberry muffins). Having a nice local bakery so close to the house is amazing! It's actually right down from my kids school, so I can easily pick up treats. The girls like to go in and see what's new in the case. Themed cupcakes, glittered cake pops, treats that look like creatures. It's a lot of fun! One of my favorite items is the lemon cheesecake. I always buy a whole one and it doesn't last very long in our home. It's prefect creamy and just enough tartness from the lemon. Another favorite is the pineapple cream cheese coffee cake. It's sooooo good and another thing that I usually pick up when I go in. Once, I was waiting to help chaperone a field trip and ran over and discovered they have them in individual sizes! Grabbed one and a delicious glacier (blended iced coffee) and was all set for breakfast. We had a birthday cake made for my daughter and she wanted a mermaid theme. It came out super cute and was light and fluffy. Love that we can go in and have a cake done the way we want it. Christmas time, I wanted to try something new and discovered they had an eggnog mousse cake! It was so yummy! I love eggnog. The flavor was light and the mousse made this cake so creamy and light. One of my favorite things about having so many options is, they made our at home afternoon tea so easy. They offer a variety of scone flavors and I picked up some adorable macarons, petit fours, mini cheesecakes and the little cute mouse treats. My girls were over the moon!
