I've been there quite a few times, one of my favourite burger places in Dublin. Love the way you can customise you own burger. You can pick from the size of your burger to a wide range of toppings. You can't get disappointed! Not the cheapest place but affordable. Service is good and relatively fast. As I write this review my mouth is actually watering!! I had the chicken burger I had there with sweet chile sauce, sun dried tomatoes and lettuce and it was amazing! The service is great and the options are amazing! I think it's the range of toppings that separates the counter from ally other places. No one can compete! Even the side dishes are abundant. Great burgers! Very tasty burgers and fries. My daughter had a plain burger which was nice and moist and I had a salmon burger special with pineapple which was amazing. Would go again! We didn't have room for shakes but we did squeeze in a warm brownie with ice cream which was perfect. A burger is definitely a culinary paradox. So simple, yet so complex. What is essentially a slab of meat between two pieces of bread holds infinite possibilities. When you happen upon a good burger it really sticks in your mind and you make a point to tell people about that wonderful burger you had recently. The Counter have taken this philosophy to a whole new level. They embrace the complexity of the humble burger. Upon entering I was greeted by a very friendly waitress who showed me to my table and told me someone would be along soon to give me a "menu tour". A few seconds later an enthusiastic American lady gives me a three minute tutorial on how to assemble my ideal burger using a sort of questionnaire format menu. Feeling a little foolish I duly ticked the boxes and handed it to a waitress. The burger I got was quite lovely and I only regretted not getting a bigger one and fries to dip in the absolutely yummy Hot Wing sauce I got on the side. If you are looking for a vegan burger this is the place to go! By far one of the best vegan burgers I've tasted. I brought my own vegan cheese and they had no problem melting it onto the burger for me. Terribly slow service, we waited 30 minutes before we saw any food. But that's not the worst part - only one of our orders was brought down to the table. When inquiring about the whereabouts of the other order the waitress snapped back at us saying "this is not a fast food restaurant!". It turned out the order was not even brought into the kitchen, at which point we requested a refund and left. As for food quality, the burger that we did get was very average and no better than any chipper at 3am on a Saturday night. Will never be coming back. read more

I love burgers. Like I mean, I love them. I go out for a burger every Thursday night. I'd been meaning to try this place for a while. Side note I'd been to the one in Dundrum before but not for a burger. So it started off ok, I didn't wait too long before getting a table. And that was where the good part of the experience ended. The waitress came to my table. I hadn't yet decided on what I wanted to eat but asked if I could order a glass of wine. Although she seemed a bit confused or agitated or something by that, she did let me. About ten minutes later, the bartender finally brought my wine over. He was the one who took my order card. Then, no joke, forty freaking minutes later- some guy I can only assume was an expo came up to ask me if I had ordered a burger with x,y, and z. I said I had. He said, ok I'll be right back with it but let us know if it's cold'. It was. But who could I tell? I hadn't seen the bloody waitress since she took the wine order! Also, even if it hadn't sat lonely and forgotten in the kitchen window, it still wouldn't have been a very good burger. Anyway, I are the burger. I finished my wine. I waited, even longer. Finally I flagged down the waitress so I could pay and finally be able to end this miserable experience. Burger- mediocre. Service- appalling. I won't be going back. read more

Food is good, staff are rude and be prepared to wait 50 minutes to get your burger. Also was told the sauces were 3 for 1 but then was charged extra for them. We know The Counter from Los Angeles, and in the very tough burger market there, The Counter is well regarded as one of the better burger chains. The Dublin locations (here and Dundrum) are a great taste of home for us. I like the 'build your own' scheme. I love the skinny chips, and my wife loves the sweet potato chips. The onion rings aren't bad either, and it's not on the menu, but you can get a single order of all three, which we often do. read more

I feel a little underwhelmed after my second Counter experience. Our service was fantastic; couldn't fault it! I had a white Russian and I liked it so much I ordered another one. I had a Counter burger and the crispy onions were delicious in it, seriously tasty. It was the other toppings I wasn't so keen on. But I'm well aware it could just be a personal preference of mine. I'm just not that big a fan of huge piles of mushrooms on top of my burgers. I had a nice time here last night. Had lunch here. A burger lovers heaven. There is a pre set menu for a good price but if you want to pay a bit more you can make your own burger. You can choose anything from succulent pineapple to a full pound of turkey meat. Great selection. This is the real king of burgers. read more

Customise your burger... Fab! I enjoyed a superbly cooked burger with my 4-topping choices: lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickle. Added €1 for the 'luxury' smoked bacon. Topped it off with jalapeño jack cheese and smoked garlic aoili. Bloody Mary was ok- had to have them remake the first one because it was only vodka and tomato juice. Every time I am shocked when the bill comes, I think it's very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because the restaurant is cold! Such a nice place. I loved being able to make my own custom burger, this was the main reason for coming. We arrived and had to wait, no problem. But the bar was full so they asked us to leave. After getting back we got seated pretty quickly. We had fun and picked our faves to make our burgers to order. Food took a while, but was ok. I've wanted to try The Counter for a good long while as I liked the idea of creating your own burger based on a seemingly endless supply of toppings, but I found the whole experience disappointing, not to mention very expensive for what it was. Being a Bunsen fan, I love the simplicity of their ethos: great burgers are about focusing on the main components and getting them just right, however, The Counter's menu seems to be centred on all the extras you can add to your burger rather than the main components themselves. My bone-dry burger served up on run-of-the mill seeded bap couldn't be saved by its fancy accoutrements, which weren't even anything special. It doesn't matter how you try to dress it up - if the basics aren't great to start with, you'll never have a memorable burger on your hands. Seeing as this very forgettable burger, along with sweet potato fries and a soft drink set me back the guts of €20, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth in more ways than one. Add to this lack-si-daisical service, a crazy long wait time for the food and not all the extras I'd ordered appearing on my burger and you can pretty much see why I'll never bother going back. The Counter's appeal is gimmicky at best, but there are far superior burgers on offer for considerably less - I'll be giving this place wide berth in future. read more

I've been at the Counter three times now. The first time I was amazed at how big the 1lb burger was: for 15 euros it was great value. The second time, because of their long serving time, I had ordered some garlic fries as appetizer: they never arrived, but they were charging them nonetheless. Other than "oh, sorry" they didn't make up for it in any way, the staff didn't really care about the bad service. The third time I tried again to order appetizers, because they warned me that it would have taken 30-40 minutes to cook the 1lb burger. Indeed, we got our appetizers after 10 minutes, and the burgers 10 minutes after that. Translation: the burger took only 20 minutes to cook, not 30 or 40, and I could have avoided spending 6 euros for garlic fries if I had been told the correct time (wrong by 20 minutes? come on). Moreover, the burger was a mess. It included beef, a fried egg, cheese and onions, and the ingredients were randomly piled up without care, making it impossible to eat the burger normally, because it was basically spread across the plate. The burgers are good, even if sides are not included, but the service is really one of the worst in the centre of Dublin. There are better alternatives for the prices they ask. read more
