No, we were on a mission to consume as much smoked dead animal, coffee, pints, and antibiotics as we could before his dad came to collect him. FOR HE IS A MAN OF LIMERICK, and a kind soul - rare to find in those westerly parts. My spouse and sprog were also dressed for social warfare determined to keep up with the appetite of the warlords recently returned to the Fatherland.. Seated in the middle of the hall, a pedestal raised for the show ahead. My woman spotted her kin working the rounds and bent up to query her nationality. A match! A southerly piriguete ready to do our bidding and translate everything off the menu - CORN ON THE COBS for everyone in the audience. Do I have your attention?! During our two week vacation in the UK we were getting a bit burnt out on the standard British fare. So we decided to switch things up for dinner when we stumbled across the American themed BBQ restaurant, Pitt Bros Smoked BBQ Project. Gotta say I really like the decor in this place! Definitely feels like a few BBQ places I've eaten at in the states. The customer service was fantastic too. It's a casual dining experience but the staff was very attentive and accommodating to our table. As a group we went with a meat feast, taster tray. Most of the meats were ok. The chicken and brisket were pretty dry to me but with some sauce they were fine. I'd probably avoid the chicken all together because no sauce was going to save it from dehydration. The fries, mac and cheese, and the other sides were all decent as well. One of the biggest pluses at Pitt Bros was the AYCE soft serve ice cream. Needless to say I made a few visits. Not a terrible experience at Pitt Bros for a meal in Dublin. I'd probably try it again however I would have tempered expectations. read more

Awesome selection of smoked meats and sides. I went with a pulled pork sandwich and a side salad, and the mans had a brisket sandwich with a side of bone marrow mashed potatoes. Both of our sandwiches were juicy, smoked to perfection and overflowing with a generous amount of meat. A sandwich with a side was the perfect size for one, but If you are going to go with a platter combo then I suggest sharing amongst two. From the looks of it, the portion of meat is huge, and you get to choose two different sides. There isn't much else like this in Dublin, so if you are in the area and have got a craving for BBQ then Pitt Bros is the way to go. A sandwich with a side is 10 euro which isn't terrible, and they even have a free soft serve machine in the back for dessert! Zero complaints here! read more

A friend and I accidentally stumbled on this place and we were happy we did. Service: quick and attentive. You have to order at the front and they bring your food to your table. Food: I ordered the original ribs as recommended by the cashier. The ribs were tasty and could easily feed 2 people. The selection of sauces were also good too. They also provided free soft serve ice cream which is nice if you have a sweet tooth. Layout/atmosphere: Had a very trendy vibe and family style seating. We tried some of the food during the soft launch opening. We had the pulled pork and half chicken along with onion rings, fries, slaw and salad sides. The BBQ sauce was very nice, and the meat well cooked. The fries and onion rings were nicely cooked, the fries maybe a touch overly salty. They've put their own touches to the others with celery in the slaw and fennel I think in the salad which I liked. With a few more tweaks after the soft launch this will be a very nice, reasonably priced BBQ restaurant, something Dublin's been missing up until now. I'll go back again when fully opened and try some more of their options (if I can get in, I expect they will be very busy in the coming months). read more

It's taken me some time to get here - I'm just so into a competitor's food that I've found it hard to chance going somewhere else for my BBQ! Chance it I did today, and, I mean, it was good. So what was good about it? - The portions are HUGE. I had to leave half of it behind. If you're hungry, go! - The BBQ sauce has a really smokey delish flavour - The burned beans were amazing. Loaded with pork, flavour, and again, a massive serving - Funky decor - Of course, the free pour-it-yourself ice cream is a winner. Sure why wouldn't it be! I think you've guessed the punchline here though... it wasn't all good. - The star of the show, the pulled pork, was really really dry. The nature of it's cooking should mean that it's juicy and full of flavour. I had to drown it in sauce to make it more palatable. Very disappointing. - The mac and cheese was terrible. Where was the crispy cheese layer on top? Or where was the flavour? It tasted like something that comes out of a packet. So. Very. Bland. So, there was a lot good. The free ice cream was the only thing I enjoyed :( I've heard good things and was referred by a few people, plus I was in desperate need of onion rings so we decided to finally give this place a try. It smells absolutely delicious but sadly that wasn't any reflection of the actual flavor I'd get in my meal. Service was fine, but there was very little because you order at the counter. So I got the burger and onion rings. I will start with the onion rings because they kind of offended me deep down to my American core. You only get 4, and while they're big, it's a little ridiculous if you consider the cost of ordering them as an extra side. There is zero seasoning. Zero. What little breading coats the very under cooked onions is completely flavorless... blasphemy. The burger was also sad, I was shocked at how over cooked, dry and grey the meat was, also no seasoning or flavor. The only flavor was from the slice of bacon. I ate half of my burger because I was hungry, I had two of my generous 4 piece portion of onion rings because I was hungry. I regret those calories. My dinner date had the ribs and really enjoyed them, so maybe some items on the menu are fine or even great, but it's definitely not the burger.... or the rings. The ice cream is nice! You get to serve yourself so you're welcome to compensate for the disappointing meal by loading up on soft serve, I know I did. read more

Brisket. Yum. Better than going out for brunch! That's what drew me in to the restaurant. Brisket. Funnily enough I was hungry on Sunday afternoon but wasn't in the mood for the traditional pancakes or fry, so I told my friend I wanted to try this place that I had seen many times when in the centre. We walked in and got seated immediately. I watched as people were devouring their pulled pork and fries. I actually thought it was the brisket, as it looked the same (almost) when I've had it during Sabbath dinner at home. Alas, it wasn't. But it was still delicious. So for €13, I was given a plate with two thick pieces of brisket, a side of mac and cheese and the house slaw. My not-so-hungry friend shared the dish with me and we also ordered the onion rings. Wow! It was good. The brisket was a bit dry, hence the four and a half stars, and I had to keep adding sauce ( I tried the bbq and then the 'hot' sauce, which wasn't really that hot). The mac and cheese was nice and creamy and I loved the slaw, though my friend wasn't crazy about it. Not sure why not. Maybe she likes it creamy, while I like it vinegar-y. The onion rings were yummy as well. So yeah, great experience. The ambiance and the whole process of ordering at the cash and then getting a number, and finally having the food brought to you. Then the ice cream that you pull at the end all reminded me of another restaurant that serves Thai food (am I allowed to name names?) on Camden Street...but I asked the very friendly waitress and she said there's no connection...I wonder if they get asked that all the time. Smoked meats at Pitt Bro's... need I say more... The menu at Pitt Bro's BBQ is simple. It's not marked with gluten free indicators yet. I say yet because the owner has said he's working on it. I went in on their "soft opening" and I just loved the food. It was said that they were looking into gluten free buns but they haven't arrived just yet. It's a quirky layout. I do like the higher tables at the side rather than the long table in the middle as a seating arrangement, but there's fun at that big table too. Namely, you never know who's going to sit next to you. On one occasion I had the cutest Spanish twin girls sitting next to me who tried to share their ice cream. Unfortunately, they were using a cone so I politely declined. (As if I'd take ice cream from a child anyway!) Let's get to the food! You order at the counter, pay, and they bring your food down. Presto! A number of restaurants are doing it this way around the city now. I have a lot more dietary requirements than just gluten so I went through the menu on the first time I was in and I've sort of forgotten some of it the stuff that is gluten free because I still can't have it even thought it's gluten free. Sucks, I know. On my plate, which is the nearest one, is mash with no gravy (gravy contains gluten), corn on the cob, and pulled pork. The other plate has brisket, chips, and coleslaw. It's a lot of meat on the plate. I try so hard to finish it because it's delicious but I just don't have the capacity, and I normally end up leaving most of my sides in the process! Take away boxes can be provided if you're like me and simply can't finish. A quick note on the chips! The chips are handcut in Pitt Bro's and contain no flour BUT they are fried in the same oil as the onion rings, which do contain flour. Depending on your intolerance this is important information. Coleslaw contains Hellman's mayonnaise, which is the only non veg element. The rest is cabbage, carrot, and celery or their new veggies: mangetout, carrot, and ginger. If you are unsure on anything, ask the staff. They are very helpful. They've been quite well trained and do ask if your food is ok after you've started your meal. Result: Go to Pitt Bro's for your American Style BBQ meats. They've options for gluten free dieters and it's tasty. Win-Win! read more

Visited here with my fiancé and his brother. We had to queue for about 30 mins and eventually got a seat for the three of us on a communal bench type seat. I found this place to be average. The seats are quite close together so you kinda feel like your conversations aren't private (they're really not!) The food is average. You go to the bar and order your food and drinks. I chose sausage with onion rings and Mac n cheese. The sausage was good, the bbq sauce is ok but the sides were a let down. I don't think Mac n Cheese should be quite that watery. I know this place has a lot of loyal fans but I'd much rather visit Bison Bar or My Meat Wagon to get my bbq fix. read more

We got a rack of ribs and a slab of brisket, both with 2 sides and one of their house brewed beer all for €36!!! The ribs weren't the best I've ever had and weren't fall off the bone but the sauce was amazing. Not too sweet and has a nice kick! It wasn't dry either though, it stayed together and was simply cozy and nice. Something you'd eat with friends while sipping some beers. The brisket was amazing, best I've ever had honestly. If I could post a video then I'd post the effortless touch of my fork and the meat falling apart. Again the brisket is amazing. The Mac n cheese was my boyfriends favorite, he loved how creamy it was. Personally I wasn't a huge fan, it wasn't bad but a bit too creamy for Mac n cheese and the sauce nearly tastes like garlic sauce and cheese which isn't bad! But it's not Mac n cheese to me. The chips were solid as well, super crispy and my boyfriend demolished them. The onion rings were one of the best I've had. The breading was perfectly done. And when you took a bite the onion actually stayed with the breading. The beer, I have to say I'm not a beer person whatsoever. But I liked this beer! It taste like sparking water with a tad of bitterness at the end. And that's really it, it's only 4.5% alcohol so there isn't much going for it. FREE ICE CREAM! At the end of your meal you can get up and make your own vanilla soft serve cone!!! My boyfriend and I made a large tower of ice cream and so did a lot of others. Not only was the ice cream free but it was absolutely amazing. It was insanely creamy and wasn't like McDonald's where it's sort of a slushy ice cream and you can taste the bits of ice still. I went to this pop up restaurant on a Saturday night with some friends. The decor catches the eye from the street with funky lighting and school style seating. You order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. All meats are Irish sourced and slow cooked for 12 hours. Options are beef brisket, ribs, pulled pork and others. They come with options of sides. I got the beef brisket with fries and slaw which was amazing- the meat was so tender. Tried my friends pulled pork which was also good. Also tried the side of beans which was spicy but great. The restaurant has a very young crowd and the music is cool. All of us were happy with our choices. I struggled to pick a rating for this place but my rationale will be explained further... I'm a South African born American who had lived in the States for 17 years as of this review. That said, I've had my fair share of BBQ all over the US. I walked into this place with excitement and was happy to snag a small table. I looked over the menu and my tummy fluttered when I read the words "brisket" and "bun" which only meant one thing... A brisket sandwich! I ordered it in a heartbeat along with a side of fries. While I waited I saw order after order leave the kitchen and was quite impressed with the plating. All meals were served on what could only be described as a cutting board. Seems appropriate given the amount of meat served here... I also liked the decor of the place. It had a rustic vibe too it but was also really classy. Good combo! My meal arrived and the first thing I did was grab a fry. Bite. Chew. Swallow. Man these were good! They're less fries and more steak fries which I quite enjoyed. No salt or sauce was needed either...the mark of a good fry. As for the brisket sandwich, the portions were enormous! The sandwich alone was like 5 inches high! I initially noticed that the sandwich had sauce on it already. Thinking it was BBQ sauce, I tried a bit quick just to make sure it wasn't too spicy, etc. and to my surprise I was shocked that it was like ketchup or another tomatoey sauce. Wtf? You don't put tomato sauce on brisket. That'll get you shot in Texas! That said, it tasted fine but it just wasn't what I was expecting. My biggest gripe about the whole sandwich was the fact that it wasn't traditional brisket either. After cooking a brisket you should have a bit of a char on the outside and it should have smoke rings. Instead the meat I received was more like a beef roast. It was completely tender all the way through but there was no brisket characteristics to it. Once again, not what I was expecting. That said, I enjoyed the meal here. It tasted great and would have enjoyed it regardless. In fact the whole experience was 4 star quality, including the free ice cream afterwards. But I cannot in good conscience give this more than 3 stars because it wasn't true brisket. Would I return? Yup! read more

Walked by this BBQ place many times when visiting Dublin. Always an entertaining sign board out front. My wife makes fun of me for the amount of BBQ I eat, which may be excessive, and so I haven't stopped before today. Friendly young crew operating the place. Says they use two smokers out back, but didn't get the name of builders. American BBQ theme is good with split firewood on display in restaurant, extra sauce in bottles on the tables so you can make it as messy as you want, and a roll of paper towels right next to that to clean up again. Soft serve ice cream and tap water in a big bottle and glasses is also included. Great deal overall! For 10 euros I got the brisket sandwich, very good, and some spicy hush puppies. Only thing missing is some proper BBQ joint music, no George or Willie music in here, SoundHound says it is something called Get a Move On, by Mister Scruff. We went here looking for a My Meat Wagon substitute and were sorely disappointed. The meat itself ( I went for the sausage) seemed sub-par. I could barely tear it apart with my knife and fork, I couldn't even finish it. The hushpuppies were greasy and tasteless too. The silver lining was the free ice cream at the end. So I've been to Pitt Bro's three times now and I'll be back to try it again as a trusted friend has recommended something I dint try on either visit. Lets hope he keeps that trust when I make a fourth visit. But until then I'll share my thoughts on my own experiences. I'm all for BBQ! I've a few local haunts around the city and it was the same when i lived in both New York & Florida, I'll always go looking for some quality BBQ. So to start,there handful of things I do like about about Pitt Bros which include the unique decor, free pour it yourself ice-cream along with the side dishes I've tried which where different on both occasions. So one of the occasions I've tried Pitt Bro's was at Eat Yard, which pulls this up to the 3 stars due to a dish which isn't offered at the restaurant which seems bizarre to me. This was the Waffle Iron Chicken! Buttermilk chicken on a waffle with candied bacon, syrup and I want to say it was a chipotle mayo to, this was a delicious. I'd love to see it on the full menu in the future I'd happily be a visitor way more! My experience in restaurant which has dropped the score is comparing the meat to competitors on both occasions it came up bone dry. Maybe its hard luck when it was once, but twice is a shame. Two stars seems harsh, but when it comes to BBQ for me its all about the meat which wasnt up to the test, I'll give it another try of course since I've spotted the other location has one or two more options. Went today for a late lunch with my partner. Even at 3pm the place was fairly busy. I ordered the brisket with mac and cheese and slaw as sides. Service was great and my meal came fairly quickly, but the food was quite... underwhelming. Definitely undersalted. The brisket itself was fairly dry, but the fatty bits did retain a lot of the smoke flavour so that was pretty good. The mac and cheese was something you could make at home, just pasta in a cheesy sauce. The slaw was quite bland and did not compliment the meal at all. The sauces were not at all an American style bbq sauce so I'm not sure what the go is with that. The serving was quite large and I could not finish the meal. The free ice cream at the end is a nice touch and the homemade lemonade is a must try. Overall, ok. I won't be going back again anytime soon though. read more

Not bad, however not great. BBQ sauce is a little gritty and way to sweet. Paula Dean wouldn't add that much sugar. Brisket is seasoned very well, however like most meat in Europe, way over done. Chicken had a peculiar flavor I could t place, also over done. Corn on the cob is good, and the Mac and cheese is very good. Lemonade was warm in spite of ice being added and was VERY tart, almost undrinkable. The concept is nice. But the food needs to be better prepared and the bbq sauce needs serious help. There's lots of room with plenty of tables and chairs for everyone so you shouldn't feel cramped or shoved into somewhere. The atmosphere is fantastic. Music playing (at a nice volume!!), funky interior, very 'hipster' feel to it :) Amazing staff who are always smiling and welcoming. Definitely deserve some kind of recognition. Then there's the food... I got the brisket with sides of macaroni & cheese and onion rings. OH. MY. GOD. Superb. The beef was so tender and jucy. Huge portion and could easily fill two people! First a disclosure. I'm a Kansas City native - that's Kansas City, Missouri, USA where "everything's up to date". More importantly, KC is home of the World Series of Barbecue where 500+ teams compete for a $50,000 prize for best BBQ. We take our BBQ very seriously . So imagine my delight when I stumbled on Pitt Bros while at a meeting in Dublin. It was crowded, looked like fun and the menu had the right things on it. A bit of a queue but as a singleton they were able to find a place for me without waiting. But I noticed that it didn't smell of smoke. Something was amiss. I went up to the till to place my order - ribs with chips (fries) and burnt-end beans. Had a friendly chat with the guy at the till as he steered me to an interesting beer - lot's to choose from. I asked him where the smoke went but didn't get a real answer. Sat down and waited, and waited. Most of the food is cooked ahead and BBQ joints typically dish it our in a flash. Eventually it came to my little table. Others have commented on the metal plates. Cute but neither authentic nor functional. THE FOOD They were baby back ribs and there was about 1/2 a slab. Real BBQ is done with pork spare ribs; not baby back. First taste, they were SWEET! No smoke, no chilli kick. Maybe something you'd find in a Chinese or Thai restaurant. The hot sauce at the table was good (I could write pages on BBQ sauces. My gold standard is Haywards from the KC restaurant of the same name) but couldn't mask the sweetness of the original preparation. The fries were very crisp; almost burnt. I loved the texture but they needed salt. And the beans; well all of the reviews have slated the beans and deservedly so. BBQ beans are supposed to be sweet and dense. These were more of a soup with all the wrong tastes. And where were the bunt ends. They should have been chewy smokey, but these were just boiled beef. Sorry chaps. Come to KC some time and find out what real BBQ tastes like. And how it's served. My favourite is a full slab of spare ribs laid out on a bed of Wonder Bread (soft white sandwich bread). The bread is there to soak up the fat and sauce that drips off the ribs. No one admits to eating the bread - but everyone does. All washed down with an ice cold tasteless Amercian lager. read more

Being from Kansas City originally (as Gary was), I was so excited to hear when a BBQ restaurant was opening in Dublin. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try it until just recently! My husband arrived shortly after opening on Sunday. I'd heard it could get busy, so I wanted to make sure we were there early. By the time we left the restaurant was starting to fill up, but it wasn't very busy when we arrived. So that we could try as many things as possible, we ordered (and shared) the lemonade, beef brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwhich, onion rings, and mac and cheese. To start of, the lemonade wasn't as tart as I was hoping it'd be. Frankly, I'll pass on this the next time. It tasted a bit watered down. Once the food arrived, I was so excited! The presentation was great, and the food looked amazing. Both the beef and pork sandwiches were pretty good, but I thought the beef sandwich was tastier. Something to keep in mind, there are two types of bbq sauce on the table. One is spicy, and one is not. They are not labeled. Be sure to try a small taste before smothering your sandwich in BBQ sauce. I LOVE spicy food, but the spicy bbq was a bit spicy for my husband. Also, because it is Carolina style bbq, the sauce is more vingeary that the BBQ sauces I'm used to, but it was still good! The onion rings were fantastic! Buuutt.... the mac and cheese wasn't that great. I actually didn't eat it because it tasted so strange. And honestly, I couldn't put into words what tasted odd about it. In my opinion, the mac and cheese could do with being made with a different type of cheese. Overall, I gave this restaurant 4 out of 5 starts because I thought the majority of the food was tasty, and we had great service. The only reason I can't give this place 5 stars, is party because I've been spoiled growing up in KC with their BBQ. While Pitt Bros is tasty, and it will definitely help curb my cravings in between visits home, it just isn't QUITE the same as what I'm used to. I went there with my friends, we had two pieces of beef and one portion of chicken, 3portion of chips. I'm not a big fan of those kind of chips (very well cooked with skins) but the meats were great! As I was walking down George's Street with my stomach yelling at me for food, I spotted Pitt Bros's facade--all steamy and sexy. How could I say no? My friend and I were seated almost immediately and had our choice of tables, which I thought was nice. We ordered a meat meal with an assortment of Original Ribs, Pulled Pork, and Brisket with two sides of Fries and Onion Rings. Mark, at the register, was incredibly friendly and made sure I was taken cared of--answering all of my smoked meat questions and recommendations. As my friend and I were waiting for our food, we noticed the time and realized we hadn't received our food and we were nearly 50 minutes in. So we asked our server for an update on the food and they came back telling us that the ticket machine in the kitchen was giving them trouble the whole day. We understood, but were incredibly peeved as we saw people who came here after us receive their entrees and leave. By the time we noticed, the place had nearly cleared out. I tell you, it was lucky we enjoy each other's company, because we didn't expect to wait that long for food. We got hangry. However, when management heard about the situation, they offered us beers, and when I declined, they offered to front our bill. The situation was incredibly well-handled, and we enjoyed their professionalism and courtesy. Now onto the meat--The Original Ribs were absolutely delicious. And dipped in their BBQ sauce? I was in barbecue heaven. The Pulled Pork was alright, in my opinion; however, my friend is the one who chose that as I'm not too big of a fan of pulled pork. I found it a bit dry, and didn't touch much of it. The Brisket was hands down my favorite. I had the Brisket before in one of their buns, and found it to be very dry (smoked meat is tricky, I get it), but this time, it was perfect. Mouth-watering. Moist. (Yes, I said moist). Flavorful. It was beautiful. My tummy was happy. The hangriness had lifted and I was in pure joy--borderline comatose, but I enjoyed it. To top off the night, we walked away with their delicious soft-serve treat. TIP: "Pull me softly" means pull it softly. You need to treat it as if it were made of eggshells because my friend went for it and it nearly exploded in her face. Love that the menu isn't so complicated. Quite noisy and extremely casual. Noticed everything is from IKEA and cheap table wear but I guess that's how profit is made (smart move) Food was a bit chewier than expected, had expectations for soft flakey meat. Waitress and till girls were quite rude. Looked like I killed her goldfish when asked for some ice. (Water is room temp bottled in ikea bottles) Free icecream was delicious. Ice cream van type! It took me quite a lot of thinking before I have put three stars. You see, I really wanted to like this place. I really like places with a small but elaborate menu, I think there is a lot to it in a restaurant minimalism. I also thought that the decoration, signs and the idea of "slow cooking" fast are really cool. I will agree that the cooking is fast indeed, It takes no more than 5 minutes to get your food. I also like the idea of ordering over the counter. I mean, it's really cool when things are down to earth and there is no extra poshness. But let's see the negative sides now: 1. Food. Ribs were good, pulled pork is quite boring. The best part about pulled pork was pickles. I miss good pickles, maybe you guys should have like a side dish made of pickles because now when it comes to sides, we tried fries, puppets, onion rings and mash and just fries were good, other stuff I didn't get at all. 2. Music. It was Beyoncé non stop and music was way to loud. I don't mind Beyoncé but so loud... Overall, I think it's a good offer for that price. But I wouldn't come here often, because it doesn't seem cosy enough to stay for some more time here after finishing the meal. As a BBQ fan living in Ireland, its not oft that you get the chance to have really decent, honest-to-goodness style BBQ fare. We popped in on a whim early this evening, and were pleasantly surprised to find that the place was busy, buzzing and near on full. We were quickly shown to a free table and told how it all works. We ordered a burger, pulled pork and sides of fries (obligatory! We're irish after all) slaw and corn on the cob. We were waiting for ten minutes - if even - and everything came piping hot, and served with a smile. We were checked on three times (I almost became paranoid, do we have complainer-y faces?) which is always a good thing. Simple tasty food, done well, in a very well-judged space. I actually can't even deal with how good this place is. I've made it my business to stop in a few times, dragging along friends from other countries because they just HAD to try it out - needless to say, they loved it too! Organic beer, huge portions and free ice-cream, what's not to love? seriously. I've ordered the Pulled Pork and the Pulled Pork in a bun. Can you tell I love Pulled Pork? One of my girls had the brisket, which she said was fantastic. Burnt beans are great, the fries are delish and I'll say it again, FREE ICE-CREAM. The decor is pretty funky and it didn't bother me in the slightest sharing tables with other diners. All in all, it's a pretty good spot. Lunch, anyone? read more

I was so excited about trying here but ended up really disappointed! On first impressions it looked like everything I would be into... Funky decor, good music, a nice selection of craft beers and friendly, welcoming staff! The food, however, was the underwhelming part. I tried the brisket with mac & cheese and fries and it was...meh! The brisket was tough and lacked flavour and the mac & cheese was really bland! The fries were fine but let's be honest, it's kinda hard to get fries wrong! The free ice-cream was a nice touch and was probably the highlight of the food for us. read more
