I had read a really mixed bag of reviews of this place after my Southern husband suggested we get a taste of his local cuisine so I wasn't too sure if I'd love or hate it. Turns out it's neither! I have to agree with Emily's review. It's alright! I was really disappointed with a number of things, but let's take it from the top. I called about three hours in advance to make a reservation. No go my friend, they're too hipster for that kind of carry on. Reminded me a bit of Elephant and Castle where you'd show up in hope of a chicken wing or two, only to be told there's a 45min wait at the 'bar'. Well this is the same only there's barely anywhere to really wait comfortably. It irked me slightly, but I thought the food would be worth the wait. My husband ordered a stout and I a regular diet coke. The prices shocked me. Their stout wasn't a regular Guinness or Smithwicks, oh no. It was some stuff that came in a standard coke sized can and cost 7.10. Yes you read that correctly. So don't order that. On to the food. I had read great things about the pork so naturally I ordered up. My husband had an array of meats - pork, brisket and ribs. Now he loved every mouthful. To me the pork was bland! Even with some BBQ sauce, it just didn't wow me. His brisket was cold (I'm not sure if it was supposed to be). For me the sides were great. I had the fries and the beans. Yummy. The corn was also great. The highlight was the free ice cream at the end. Lovely job! I couldn't help but feel all the hungry waiting eyes on me, so I felt the pressure to leave. Staff are absolutely lovely, and while I hate to admit it, the hipster (almost cheap) decor looks the part. Gorgeous spot alright, just give the waiting people some chairs to sit on, or an actual bar to sit at. Next time I go I'll try the chicken, but it needs to be much much better to improve this review. Hmmm well! I kept meaning to stop by here and eventually I got around to it. I left full but not very satisfied. It was okay like nothing amazing to shout from the rooftops. The brisket was great (little bit too fatty but) the ribs were great and all the meat looked really tasty. I wasn't too gone on the BBQ sauce and it was covered all over the meat they don't give you a choice really it was Abit too spicy for BBQ sauce..for me anyways because my mam loved it. The corn was yum you could taste the smokiness from it. Onion rings were bland and dry.. Mac an cheese was jus creamy runny sauce.. I prefare the cheesey gooey crunchy kind I make at home. I'd been curious to try this place ever since I saw the sign on the window. It had the exact same font and style as my all-time favourite BBQ place, Pitt Cue Co in London. A quick tweet to the Pitt Cue Co official feed and I found out there was no connection (they were a bit confused, apparently the name Pitt came from the owners father's home town). When the menu arrived, it shower a distinct resemblance to the dishes I'd had in London. The Pitt Cue Co cookbook was released this summer, coincidentally. I like the decor of the place, and the staff are really friendly and efficient, but the food let it down. I ordered pulled pork with bone marrow mash (my favourite dish) and slaw. The pulled pork was fine, but it was a completely under-seasoned and completely doused in hot sauce (normally barbecue places let you add what sauce you want at the table). The slaw was bland but mixed nicely with the pork. The mash was awful. If there was bone marrow in it, you couldn't taste it. The mashed potato itself tasted like no seasoning, butter/milk/cream had been added to it. It was completely bland. The meat jus on top tasted an awful lot like granulated gravy. Afterwards, you can get a free ice-cream cone. I heard the couple at the next table say this is an idea from Neon on Camden St. I know adapting concepts from restaurants abroad isn't exactly a new thing, and it isn't the worst thing in the world. But you really do need to try and live up to the original. For my money, Bison is doing better food than this. read more

I liked it, but it is not quite there yet, maybe it was because I was introduced to pulled pork in north carolina, and that was smoke house pork, and had a spicier kick to it. the meat is a little bland, I know the sauces are there, and that maybe there was a fear that strong flavours would put off an irish pallette but it should taste something, how are people supposed to know what brisket/pulled pork is supposed to be like if it isn't offered to them. could do better, but I'm sure they'll improve once they bed down :) read more

My husband and I visited for lunch. We have both eaten at a lot BBQ restaurants in the USA so set high standards. We both had the bun meal, I had the pulled pork and he had the brisket. The bun had a generous serving of tender, fall apart meat which was delicious. The slaw was also good and had minimal mayo which I prefer, as most slaw ends up being drowned in it. The fries had a nice flavour, however, I prefer my fries to be bit crispier. There could also have been more variety in sauces offered. Overall the meal was excellent and the service was prompt and professional. We did not have to wait long for our meals even though it was busy. The place had a good vibe to it. Visited here on Monday with a friend, her choice of venue. Having never been before I was interested in trying it out. I arrived 10 mins early, having phoned 20 mins before and was told there was a queue out the door I was expecting a long wait but a table for two appeared as I walked in the door! I ordered a bottle of wine at the counter and waited for my friend while reading the menu and making my choice. I decided on brisket, slaw and Mac n'cheese When it arrived I was surprised by the huge amount of steak on the plate. It was tasty, I did worry when trying to cut it that it would be tough but it was more tender that it seemed, the smokey BBQ sauce was great. I left over half the steak behind though, perhaps it would be worth considering the option of a smaller portion?? I liked the Mac and cheese, there was a smokey taste to it. I've never had Mac and cheese before so have no comparisons to make, but for carby, cheesey, tasty stuff, it hit the spot. I really liked the fresh slaw and the pickled cucumber and cabbage that came on the plate. My friend had the spicy sausage and mash, that was really good. The Pinot Grigio at €20 was grand. €20 for three meats and two sides. That's a super deal. It's far too much food for one, so was perfect for me. Pulled pork, ribs and sausage. The pig is dead, long live the pig. Matched with bone marrow mash and onion rings. But, sadly, colour me disappointed. The sausage is super, but watch out for garlic taking revenge hours later. The pulled pork was good. But I prefer Bison's. Then the ribs. This meat didn't melt, this sauce didn't smoke. I had a yearning to replicate an experience from Whitefriar Grill. I should've just gone there, but had to scratch a long standing Pitt Bros. itch. The onion rings only crunch because of semolina in the batter. For star onion rings, find Marco Pierre White. The spuds in the mash had turned glutinous and as for the marrow, I could only find a background oily hint. The three table sauces are from the Goldilocks school: one is too hot, another too plain and only one is "juuuuuust right". There's pickle in the garnish. You'd expect an acidic wash, but there's a soft hand at work in the pickling jar. Not the same hand at the volume and bass control on the music. Ouch. I was still pulsating an hour after leaving. The staff are great, even when idle, as the nervous looking male waiter wonders what to do with his hands when the female staff dance freestyle hip-hop. Ice-cream to finish is a genius gimmick. The home-brew is sweet with a nice citrus note. And, after all that, I'd recommend you try it for yourself and dare you to disagree with me. You'll have fun. The three stars is harsh. My preferred BBQ point in town. I have been there a couple of times already and I have enjoyed everything I tried. Food comes in big portions, so you better be hungry. No so many options in the menu but everything is delicious. Sadly the place is a kinda of small - I have seen queues there many times - but it is worth waiting. If you are lucky and get a table straight away, have a look at the menu and make your order at the bar - the service table is only for serving the food. They will give you a bottle with your order number on it. The food is delivered very quickly - I love that. A little treat from the house: free ice-cream (yay). I ate here on Saturday night and it was very good. I got the half a chicken and my boyfriend got the sandwich with brisket and pork. They let us get a drink while we waited for our table, and the food came out pretty quickly. The barbecue sauce and hot sauce on the table were both delicious, although sadly not for sale. As far as sides go, I am a sucker for Mac and Cheese and theirs exceeded my expectations. Overall, a good experience. I was so excited to try this place but was very disappointed overall. The food was not good. I am a big BBQ food fan so I have been wanting to try Dublins take on it for quite a while. I ordered the brisket bun with beans and fries. The brisket was super dry and a little fatty, not at all soft and flakey like it should be. The beans were awful, it tasted like a few beans drowned in ketchup! Yuk! The only positive was the fries. They were good. At over €13 for this food it was certainly not worth it. Just ok. I really wanted to like this place. I love pulled pork and barbecue sauce so couldn't wait to try it out. It was awful. The pulled pork was covered it so much sauce and was fatty at times .. Not good. Why not let the customer choose which of the three sauces to put on? The beans were very few with lots of sauce/gravy? which If I had got a dry meat dish maybe would've worked but either way would hardly call it a bean dish. The chips were lovely and the ice cream was a nice touch. What saved the place was the staff. Very friendly and informative. Also the decor and general buzz in the place was good. I'm a huge meat fan and this place slightly disappointed me twice but it's still good for the city. I got brisket on my first go which was quite dry and had little sauce on top. Second time lucky with the ribs which were great. My only complaint is for €14.99 I expect more than half a rack of ribs. Also, it's a meat place, no salad please! The place is rustic in feel and had some great IPAs but for what it is, it's a tad overpriced. You can't reserve a table which is frustrating because it's often packed. Seating is quite uncomfortable and it's a place where you eat and go quickly put it like that. Ice creams are a great touch and I absolutely love the branding and the window decals which make me laugh and change all the time. Overall, with a bit more generous portions, better seating and reservations, this place would be a 5* rating. Great concept, but poor execution. The star of the show is the pulled pork, which I went for and really enjoyed. The serving was a good size, as where the sides, albeit the sides were not very hot on arrival. The free ice-cream is a nice touch too. The biggest let down is the service. Not from the staff, but their 'system', or lack of. Waiting awkwardly at the bar for a free table seems to be a given. Once seated, with menus, you then have to go back to the counter and place your order, and pay on the spot. Then if you want some water, it's self-service from the side of the counter. This might seem a bit nit-picky, but I consider them closer to the restaurant side of business than a 'sit-in takeaway' place. Also, you might feel the need to rush through your meal out of courtesy to the people waiting for a table to free up. Ultimately it's good food let down by a less than suitable premises. read more

A real let down. I had hoped for better BBQ from a place that was packed and, according to the menu, "passionate about authentic American BBQ." I had a pulled pork bun, mac and cheese, and an iced tea. The pork was bland. I couldn't taste any smokiness, and I couldn't see a smoke ring. No charred bits, unfortunately. And they completely coat the pork in BBQ sauce. Pre-mixed like this, you don't get to enjoy the flavors of the pork and sauce coming together in your mouth as you chew. It was about on par with pulled pork from any large, mediocre American chain restaurant. I guess this makes it authentic? The mac and cheese was just okay. Honestly, it reminded me of Velveeta mac and cheese, but with better ingredients. I was pretty excited to see home brewed iced tea on the menu. I really like good iced tea, but it's rare in Europe to find anything other than heavily sweetened pre-bottled stuff in restaurants. Usually peach Nestea in my experience. Guess what Pit Bros home made iced tea tastes like. Peach Nestea. Don't get me wrong, it was definitely a step up from Nestea, but not the American style iced tea or sweet tea that I'd hoped for. Very tasty BBQ eats in a cool jumpin' atmosphere. I ordered the pulled pork on a bun meal with a side of fries. It was delicous; however, I'll have to say that I had to dowse it with a bit off BBQ sauce as it was slightly drier than I expected but tasty nonetheless. The portion was huge! And, the fries were really good - although I didn't see ketchup anywhere so I just dipped my crispy chips in more BBQ sauce. The vibe is cool - appeared to draw a young urban crowd. And, the music was very 80's with lots of tunes from the old hair bands. I'd say the only thing is that we didn't realize you have to order at the counter first and then return to our table for our eats so we were waiting for a bit before we figured that out (the hostess must have mentioned it and we missed these important instructions!) And, the prices are a bit higher than we'd like for a casual spot. My meal was 9.95 and a coke was 2 euro. A bit up there compared to our usual BBQ 'go-to' spot. I'm not a huge meet-lover, so this place was never going to fare exceptionally well with me. I will say however, that I really enjoyed my meal here! I wont bother commenting on the meet, because I just don't like it as a general food group and I wont do it justice. I will, however, comment on everything else! Firstly, the sides are just great. The baked beans in particular were a pleasant surprise to the palate, and the coleslaw thankfully lacked that over-mayonaised attribute that you so often see around. The chips were bang on too and the onion rings were the nicest (and biggest) I've ever had -I joke not. I was so excited to go along to Pitt Bros. I had walked past it several times and really wanted to try this out. When I read the menu I was a little surprised with how restricted the menu was, but thought, hey, they obviously specialise in these items so they will be top of the range. The best part was the coleslaw. Disappointing to say the least. The ribs were soggy and weren't tender like I would expect from a BBQ. The sauce lacked any real flavour. The rest of the sides were as disappointing. I also found there to be a general "stale" smell around. I'm told that this is from the smoked BBQ but it was just quite off-putting. Was looking for a quick bite last night and was enticed in here by the smell of bbq'd meat and it didn't let me down. I like to call it the nandos of bbq'd food in Dublin. The concept is the same. You sit down, read the menu- there are meals such as pulled pork, chicken etc and the option to make it a burger. Next you order and pay before you eat. 30 quid for two people... The service was quick and the food was brought out in less than 10 minutes. The pork was good and you also get to pick two sides. I opted for black beans and chips. I tried a bit of the turkey sausage and to be honest it was fine, but nothing remarkable. What can I say about this Dublin establishment, other than its a fantastic American style BBQ. Once you're seated, you're given a menu and told to order at the cash. I had the rack of ribs, with beans and coleslaw. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious, properly sauced and no spot looked dry. The beans had a great flavour to them and the slaw fairly typical. Everyone was friendly and had no issue accommodating my friend's allergies. The prices are reasonable and very affordable. At the end of the day, you'll leave stuffed after having a massive, traditional American BBQ meal. As for the food, the prices were fair considering the meat was delicious, but the sides were just okay. Firstly its really busy, there can be queues so if you are taking up a seat and people are waiting expect a feeling of guilt at hogging a table, if your that kind of person. Secondly, the metal trays are cold, which meant that halfway through my pulled pork the temperature of it had disappeared and it was cold pulled pork. I picked pulled pork, brisket (which is my personal tester meat for good bbq), and ribs. The entire meal cost about €20. The meats were all tender and delicious. Whenever I go to a BBQ place For the first time I have to order the brisket. This gives me an idea if they are a joke or if they are legit. This place had some seriously legit brisket. It was moist, soft and delicious. It was almost falling apart, but not, which is how I prefer it to be done. The pulled pork and ribs were moist and flavorful. The assorted selection of BBQ sauces were very tasty. The atmosphere was fun and casual and the staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. I love BBQ and when we saw this restaurant on our trip to Dublin we couldnt resist. Man was it good. The four of us had every main and side dish on the menu except the chicken (was out). And everything was great! Pulled Pork and Brisket very soft and with the right BBQ flavour! The ribs were simply "falling of the bone" and had anice touch of sauce. We ordered chicken & not only the chicken was pink inside but there was very very little meat on the chicken i have to say. None of the staff asked us if our meal is fine. I had been wanting to try this American BBQ place ever since I first saw the sign before they opened, and I finally was able to last Friday. As it was Friday night, it was very busy which is always a good sign. There were a few people waiting in front of us but we were told we would be seated within 10-15 minutes so that was no problem. They gave us a menu to look at while we waited, and I had a hard time deciding what to get. I initially thought I would order a pulled pork sandwich, but then I saw it only came with one side, as opposed to the two sides you get when ordering it without the bun. Then I realized it all works out the same price wise if you order an extra side with the bun meal. In the end I went with the non bun meal of the brisket. The next ordering obstacle was what I would get as sides as they all sounded so good! I am a big fan of mac & cheese so that was a must have for me. I debated between the onion rings and the burnt end beans, but in the end went with the beans. We did get seated within about 10 minutes and ordered right away as we had made up our minds before getting to our table. The food was really good, but I could have used more BBQ sauce on my brisket and I'm not sure the sauce they have on the tables is the same sauce it comes out with. They need to change the recipe on the mac and cheese. Just a simple cheddar and a bit creamier would do the job. I agree with some of the other reviews on the flavour, they coudl do with a bit more smokiness. It was quite cold in the restaurant which wasn't comfortable but also made my food go cold quite quickly. Also, they HAVE to do something about their ice cream machine. The ice cream explodes out of the machine making a huge mess! I'm usually a pro at the "do it yourself" ice cream cones but theirs made it just impossible. The ice cream itself wasn't very cold...so warm up the restaurant and cool down the ice cream! A few tweaks and this place will be at five stars for me! I will definitely be back though! read more

I had heard murmurings of good things coming out of Pitt Bros. It took three tries to get in here. First try was their Christmas party night and second attempted we didn't have the time to wait for a table (we had tickets booked for something an hour later etc). No biggie either time. On our third attempt, while not making it easy for ourselves being in a group of eight, we got in - hurrah! We had to wait about 15 mins at the bar before being shown to our seats, but with a cool Founders all day IPA (very nice) in hand this was no bother at all. I went for the pulled pork in a bun and a side of macaroni cheese. I also shared a side of onion rings. Yummy yum yum. It was all so so good. The flavours of the pulled pork was a little spicy and a little BBQy, but not too much of either that it took away from the meat. The three sauces we found on our table were all excellent: South Carolina, hot and BBQ sauce. I was especially happy with the BBQ sauce because I have a love/hate relationship with and most of the time its a hate relationship. Here in Pitt Bros is a love relationship. The macaroni cheese was another highlight for me also. Everyone else in our group of eight really enjoyed their food too, as far as I am aware. Second time here and have to say, much improved. Originally I thought it was very average and all a bit rushed. That's changed. Portion size and serving was great. The pork and brisket were really tasty and heaped on! Sides were great too. Beers are a bit expensive, but nice selection. Don't forget your free ice cream cone after dinner! read more

"Alright but cramped" Ok bbq served in cramped quarters. Order at bar area and pick your drinks there also. Bbq was alright a bit dry I thought and certainly nothing to blow you away. 30 min wait and shared tables I.e communal tables so sitting on top of each other. read more
