We popped in here for dinner after some shopping and were lucky to grab a seat as it was getting close to closing time. Despite it being late, we weren't rushed and the restaurant was packed. I love that you can design your own burger. There are so so many awesome choices. I added grilled pineapple, almonds, roasted red peppers, pesto, onion, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and cheese. The burger was delicious and the shoestring fries I got on the side were pretty great also. My husband got the dinner portion of chicken wings which was huge. The wings were pretty good, but I was happy to have my custom burger. read more

We went to The Counter last night "en famille" for my son's 18th birthday. The restaurant was a hit with young and old and we're all looking forward to a return trip. Basic decor but nice music and very pleasant ambiance overall. Good friendly service and a helpful explanation of the process to "build your own burger". I've attached a photo of the menu form that each customer has to complete to design their burger. Not being a fan of buns, I ordered a "burger in a bowl" with blue cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, regular tomatoes, olives, mixed baby greens and vinagrette ..... strange but tasty ... there wasn't any evidence left in the bowl. We all loved the place and the food. Two of myboys particularly liked the bottles of root beer. I recommend it ... but only when its not too busy because you can't reserve tables. read more

The food is excellent. But the service is massively lacking. I've been a few times, and service is always very slow. Slow to take order, bring drinks and give the bill. The food is the fastest thing about it. I was there recently again on a busy Friday evening, it took 25 mins to have our order taken. We ordered more drinks during the meal, and it took them 30 mins before they arrived, despite staff behind the bar not looking busy and being on their phones. We also ordered milkshakes after our food to finish with which actually never came, and we had to get them to takeaway. It took 35 mins of actively looking for a server to get our bill. We were there for 3.5 hours when we only really planned on being there for 1.5 hours. Food and drink is great, but the service really lets it down. The night we were there it was clearly losing them business, as people were turning away and not waiting in the queue. The staff were very friendly, but we never got any apologies for how long things took. read more

I love this kind of easy gimmick-restaurant like The Counter. It's a family friendly place (with crayons!) where you fill out your menu like a form, ticking boxes and such. Their burgers come in a bun or in a bowl in three different sizes 1/3 lb 2/3 lb or a whopping 1lb burger in turkey, chicken, beef or veggie and with a whole heap of sauces, and garnishings. It'll set you back about 14€ for a 2/3 burger but they are massive, so you don't really need any sides. Perhaps a beer though, because you will inevitably end up in a burping competition after going here. read more

I really like the counter - its good burgers, with a novelty factor. It's kind of styled on an old school diner - we're not talking kitsch red and leather booths, but its just casual, with a bar where you can just order milkshakes and watch the tv - usually playing The Simpsons etc. When you are seated they give you a little menu on a clip board and a little pencil. Then you tick the boxes as appropriate - whether you'd like a beef, turkey, chicken or veggie burger, what sauce you'd like, what toppings you'd like and so on and so forth. This place is great for a date - as it's fun and gives you both something to chat about! They do great milkshakes and as a starter I'd definitely recommend the 50/50 - half onion rings and fries to share. They're yum! The burgers are big enough to do for a main course in themselves. Fast and tasty food, for a reasonable price! The first time I came here, il admit I wasn't convinced! But the boyfriend seems to love it so I decided to give it another shot...very happy that I did!! This place is great ! First, it's open all day long so don't worry, even if it's 3pm you can get an awesome burger there. Second, the service is really nice, not sure if it's because the last restaurant I've noted was so bad about that, but I found the waitress here really smily and nice. She explained us the concept of the diy burgers and answered our questions very nicely. I've decided to do a burger with gluten free buns, organic meat, onions, spinach leaves, goat cheese, green beans, egg and bacon. I've chosen with this apricot sauce and mustard which both came on side, happily, since I didn't really like the apricot sauce which tasted everything but apricot to me, the mustard one was nice tho. The burger was seriously awesome, the goat cheese was great and the meat too, I really enjoyed it. I'm really sad I didn't discover that place before. I had normal fries with that, nothing special to say about that, it was just normal fries. My boyfriend took the one with cheddar and was pretty disappointed about it so I wouldn't recommend these. The cheese came all dry on top of the fries so not melted at all. He also ordered a peanut butter milkshake, this one was soooo good ! The food is worth the price. Went to counter in dundrum over the Christmas period and it was a Q out the door. After a twenty minute wait we got a good seat in the corner. As a party of three we ordered an abnormal amount of food. I noticed a change in the menu which was nice to see, they were keeping up with the latest crazes like quinoa on a burger or a chemical free organic beef but I just went for the usual updated name of a bison beef burger. The change of name got me excited the the quality of meat might to have also been ungraded but it was the same as always. Probably frozen burger meat. The best thing about counter is obviously building your burger exactly how you want it and the toppings are delicious. The crispy onion strings are also delicious. However the wing sauce is my personal favourite. Negative things are the burger itself it's not the most flavoursome hence why you need so many sauces. The Parmesan chips got a bit too much. It was also quite a greasy experience for all of my party. It's a fine place to grab a quick burger in dun drum after a shopping spree. In terms of a quality burger stop, counter is not the one. From that, who could possibly have guessed it would be unsuitable for my 14-year old daughter?). Burgers all round - doh! - cooked as we asked accompanied by a very nice Shiraz met the bill. I like the way you literally tick the boxes to select burger, toppings, sauces and even the type of burger bun. Appeals to the very ex-civil servant in me. I should hate it. I'm indecisive, I eat practically everything, I can't make my mind up, I have high cholesterol, I hate choosing and I wanted to try Nandos. However, once inside, the staff were really friendly and cool, but not in an "I'm too cool to be here", jo'berger kinda way but in a friendly kinda way. Burger choosing was quicker and more fun than I had imagined, great selection and the portions were huge. As some of the other reviewers noted, service can be a little slow, so be ready for that. I've gone back to Th Counter numerous times since my first review, and I consistently have good food and great service. I'm tossing them an extra star because they demonstrated some awesome service solutions when we stopped in there this past Friday night. We got there just as they were closing up, but there were still several tables of people finishing their meals. The manager was very welcoming and just asked us to chose the type of burger first (Turkey, Beef, etc) so the kitchen could get it cooking and we could then order the fixings etc. once we'd settled in. Staff was perfectly happy to have us and seemed unbothered by the fact that we were keeping them late, and this represented both a level of customer service and "solution finding" that I don't see very often, esp. in a country where tipping is still a little bit of a question mark. I wouldn't normally write a review of a restaurant but after this evening's experience I feel compelled to do so! The Counter has always been decent grub at a reasonable price. However, recently I get the impression that they've cut an awful lot of corners in regard to their menu and they way in which they prepare the food. One used to get certain items included for free on burgers - eg. fried onions. Since their rehashing of the menu however, such things are now chargeable. This isn't a major gripe, it's just that it now pushes up the price of a meal there into the territories of the higher end restaurants in the vicinity. My biggest gripe however, is the quality of the food. The burgers taste like they were cooked early in the afternoon and reheated when I placed my order. The outside of the patty was char grilled yet it was cold in the centre. I explained this to the server who was indifferent towards to my objection. My partner had the exact same experience with her burger - this was coupled with greasy stodgy chips and onion rings which were in no way worth the 6 euro they were charging for them. All in all the quality at The Counter has completely nose-dived in the last few months. It doesn't at all surprise me when I look at a restaurant that was usually packed to the rafters with a Q out the door on a Thursday night, now has only 4 or 5 tables occupied. Had a pretty awesome lunch today at the Counter. It started well as I walked in laughing at my friend's inability to open the door (only to suffer the same fate on leaving myself!) The place was quiet as it was after lunchtime and the staff were really friendly and prompt. I filled out the form and was delivered a fantastic burger. We ordered fries, sweets and strings to share.... I think I'll dream about those onion strings tonight - we were very glad we didn't order one each as it was pretty big. The waiting staff were very attentive to my friend's food allergy and pro-active with the kitchen about it. The food was great but so greasy... the brown paper napkins seemed to amplify my awareness of how greasy I was becoming!! It's not cheap for a burger lunch but its very good. read more

BUILD YOUR OWN BURGER! OK! Ha ha... Never has going out for a burger been so much fun! This place has a great concept; with a build your own burger menu they give you along with a pencil, you can build up your burger however you imagined it in your wildest dreams. From the size of meat, meat type, bun or in a bowl and then, oh man, it just gets better, you select what cheese, sauces, toppings and bun style and then tick off any sides you wanna put with it. Upside is, all of the above, Downside is that I can take awhile to perfect my burger.. ha ha! Although on that note, their main menu does allow you to select from what they call the 'Expert Burgers' these are ones crafted by the chefs and good ole reliable put together for your eating pleasure. Their starter and sides menu is extensive, the portions are great so train your eyes, not to be bigger than your belly!!! They have huge selection of drinks from soft drinks, alcoholic as well as malts, shakes (and yes, you can build your own shake), floats, etc. The service was a little hit n' miss when I was last here, was asked 4 times for our order although we had already given it, the drinks took a wee while to come and also they missed out a portion of sweet potato fries, they did hook me up and were super nice and prompt about it. The Counter is a new addition to Dundrum and makes burger building fun! Here you can build your own custom made burger which makes a nice change from the usual Gourmet Burgers etc. I was just thrilled to be given a pencil and clip board when we arrived! I'm a big fan of anything remotely novel! So, I diligently set about designing my burger. I chose a beef burger, bowl instead of a bun (with salad), yummy toppings, choose a sauce that comes on the side, great! And a chocolate malt please. Thank you very much. After I had handed the waitress my clip board, I realised a rookie error... I had forgotten to choose my cheese!! Noooo! While the food looked nice, the staff are pretty useless. My friend and I waited to be seated and when we say down, we were not offered drinks or menus. I noticed that the staff were just chatting casually and not really run off their feet. I decided to ask for a menu and some water but the waitress disappeared off to the cash register and proceeded to get deep into conversation with another waitress. Popped in for lunch and designed my own burger. It was very good for an Irish burger - I went for the middle size at two thirds of a pound. The guacamole actually seemed fresh, and the ingredients were all very good in general. To give you an idea, I believe my burger was constructed as follows (from memory, so forgive omissions): 2/3 lb on a regular bun Pepperjack Cheese Black Bean and Corn Salsa Guacamole Bermuda Red Onion Spicy Sour Cream The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that the service was a bit slow and they did not ask how I wanted the burger cooked. In the end it was not charred like other places have made my burger in Ireland but it was a bit past medium, perhaps medium-well which is a little overdone in my book for a good quality burger. The burger was dry to the point of it almost being inedible and cold. The only saving point to the whole meal was the sweet potato fries which were lovely. After a long day of Christmas shopping I decided to try The Counter in Dundrum. It was my first time use Yelp! on my iPhone and Joshua's review swayed my decision. Why the 3 stars? Simple, it was freezing inside and we had to wear our coats while eating. There wasn't even a place we could move to that was warmer (unless we were willing to work in the kitchen) The idea is great - I am a big fan of novelty restaurants and this one did not disappoint. I could see from the tables around me that the portions were large so we ordered chips and onion rings between us. On to the burger, I ordered Beef with Monterey Jack Cheese and dressed the burger with Jalapenos, Bacon, Tomato & Guacamole. I didn't think it was too expensive but I'd have paid more for a heater. I couldn't finish the meal, annoyed about that as it was very tasty. Service was quick and pleasant and if I wasn't so cold I would have had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Lovely little burger joint I must say. It's very hip and the staff is never off their feet they are hard-working, helpful and lovely to talk to! What I like about The Counter is that they offer the option to design your own burger from the bun to the sauce to the patty. you know he way you can have somewhere to go as a treat? well the counter is my place! i wont go into how you order because i think everyone else has already done that and youll just get bored! My tips for his place are 1) Always get the muffin bun, its by far the best of the three types 2) Always share your chips you will not manage all of them 3) Always ask for something ahead of time, if you want the bill ask for it 10 minutes before you want to leave 4) Unless your mad only ever get the 1/3lb burger you wont manage any bigger 5) if its your first time it might be worth going a little earlier than when you want to eat cause you might take a while to figure out what you really want. all in all i love this place, i am picky when it comes to food and this makes me feel kind of normal when i can choose what i want instead of feeling really awkward asking a chef to add things and take other things off my burger! read more

I was at Dundrum recently with no.1 kid and a friend, we met up with a group of friends to go ice skating, (well, I watched, Aoife took the boy on the ice!!) There was a bit of a mix up with the timing of the ice skating so after a browse around Hamleys with the 3 kids in our group, we decided on The Counter for food. We were a group of 10, so not an easy number to sit at 1pm of a Sunday, 2 weeks before Christmas, but after a 20 minute wait we were seated. So.hard.to.choose!! So, so much choice. I was veg torn. Although the wings were always going to be compulsory, I'd heard they were good. The boy got the kids burger and fries - 2 mini sliders, proper beef burgers. Really good and a small milkshake. Myself and 2 friends shared the (giant) bowl of wings and I was very happy with them indeed. My friend and I shared the 3 cheese melt toasted cheese that had chicken in it (I think) and we added avocado and relish and pickles on the side. Parmesan fries (oh my delicious) and crispy onion rings. The portions are HUGE, they really should Warn you as another friend seated beside us ordered her own fries and onion rings combo and would have had more than enough sharing ours. I wasn't mad about the cheese sambo to be honest, very bland but I did let it go a bit cold as I was so busy stuffing myself with delicious wings. Although their burgers and sweet potato fries are incredible, for me I have to say it's the chicken wings. I usually get this as my main as there's approx 30 wings in it plus blue cheese dip - seriously tasty (especially with a beer). It's a real gourmet diner. I love this place, the food is delicious. The burgers are amazinf and its great you can choose so many sides/toppings. The quality of the food is fantastic, always delicious, nice waiters, and a nice chilled atmosphere. A few weeks ago, my family and I went to The Counter to celebrate my brothers birthday. I really liked this restaurant because it was casual, yet served simple, yet tasty, food. The atmosphere was very pleasant, with nice music and it wasn't too empty or too full. The waitress was really helpful as she explained to us all how to 'Build our own Burger'. The process of ordering involved a tick-the-box menu where you can custom create your own burger. I ordered a burger with pineapple, teriyaki sauce, onions and sundried tomatoes. They make really REALLY good tasty burgers! The meat is fresh, tender and juicy and cooked to perfection and the toppings are sensational from the freshest salad to the bacon and cheese to the divine homemade sauces! Delicious burgers and friendly staff! The make your own burger option is perfect, we also shared a portion of sweet potato fries which were yummy. The brioche buns are a tasty option, much nicer than normal burger buns. We went last Saturday night and it was very busy, I'm not sure you can book tables though.
