W O N D E R F U L Staff Historic Building We stropped in for our first visit to The Corner Room downtown State College PA for a fun happy hour. Our local PSU friends told us to make sure we visit the historical venue and we were very happy we did. Dane, our bar tender, was welcoming, friendly, and professional making handcrafted cocktails for us. He was very informative about the building and downtown State College. We really enjoyed his history of the Prohibition era in downtown State College with the connecting tunnels to each restaurant/bar. Next visit to State College we will definitely dine at The Corner Room based on Dane's welcoming and fun atmosphere. A hundred years later and still bringing the comfort If you're in State College and want to step into a place that feels like it's been doing things right for a hundred years, The Corner Room is worth the stop. The atmosphere hits you right away. Dark wood, old school charm, the kind of place that feels like it has stories in the walls. It is cozy, a little dim, and exactly what you would expect from a spot celebrating a century in business. The menu is not huge, but it does not need to be. It leans heavily into comfort food, with plenty of sandwich options, but enough variety that most people will find something they like. Prices are fair, nothing over the top. I started with the soup of the day, a sausage gumbo with rice. It was flavorful and satisfying without being overly spicy or heavy. A nice warm up, especially on a rainy day. For my main, I went with Bobby D's famous beef chili topped with cheddar cheese and green onions, served with cornbread. It came out in a cast iron skillet, which was a nice touch presentation wise. Portion was solid, not massive, but definitely filling. The chili leaned a little sweet, which I personally enjoyed, with just a mild kick of heat and a lot of flavor. The cornbread was excellent and tied everything together. This is not a fancy place, and it is not trying to be. It is a comfort food spot that knows its identity and sticks to it. Great for a casual meal, especially if you are in the mood for something warm and satisfying. I would absolutely come back again. Next time, I might even give those sandwiches a shot since that seems to be their bread and butter. read more

Always like to try local places when I travel and this place did not disappoint. Nice old-school vibe inside has a good hometown feeling my waitress suggested the chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint. I am not a fan of guacamole, but the guacamole on that sandwich actually made it 100 times better than what I expected and the ciabatta bread instead of a roll was amazing. The local made orange soda was excellent and I would highly suggest trying this restaurant if you're at Penn State. read more

My daughter and I, both PSU alums, introduced my 4 older grandchildren to Happy Valley. We had "linner" at this establishment. Daughter said that the menu was completely different but the old vibe was still the same. 10 year old granddaughter didn't care for the Alfredo: consider the age! French onion soup was hearty and appropriately gloppy. Club sandwich was exactly what you would expect, nothing deviated from the norm except the marble bread. I had a Reuben which was very good and very messy. Boys all had the double burgers but ate them before I could get pictures! One of the few stalwarts remaining! Stopped in for a 30 Dec 2025 brunch / lunch with the family and MIL. The grilled stickies were amazing! And the only place to get them since the Diners demise (my guess). Well made brunch cocktails! The mix of omelettes and sandwiches order were all good to great. The service was excellent! Maybe the menu changed or it's just a memory lapse, but I remember there being more interesting options during the first visit. Went in to buy Grilled Stickies to take home (thought this was the only place you can buy them). The host said they were out of the plain ones and only had ones with nuts. A waitress she thought they had plain ones in the back so they went to look. In the meantime another gentleman came out and asked if he could help us, I explained to him we were wanting to purchase stickies so he proceeded to ring us up. Turns out all the ones up front were indeed plain ones! Think maybe the first guy was newer. You have to buy them in increments of 2 here. They are also sold at The Creamery and you can buy them individually there for slightly higher price. We didn't dine in so I can't speak to the restaurant experience however the menu looks good! *edited went to eat the Sticky buns today and then indeed HAVE NUTS! The gentleman who sold them to me said if they had nuts it would say it largely on the box but they don't! Had an enjoyable late lunch at Tge Corner Room, directly across College Ave from the Penn State campus. The decor is old school dark paneling with plenty of interesting booth and banquette spaces, and fun historic photos of State College. I enjoyed a quite tasty double stack cheeseburger. The Corner Room also serves breakfast all day, which was an unexpected pleasant twist I'll have to try on a future visit. Service was fast and attentive. A very nice experience overall. read more

This place is a Landmark! Great place to get a sit down breakfast! Right across from campus. We got a primo window seat looking at campus! Start off with a cup of coffee. It was a nice dinner overall, but a few things really stood out in a negative way. During our meal, one of the chairs at our table suddenly broke with a loud crash, causing someone in our group to fall backward and hit his head on the booth behind us. What was most concerning was that not a single staff member came over to check on him or offer an apology. We even saw two employees notice what happened and then turn away. UPDATE SEPTEMBER, 2025: I stopped in for lunch on a Monday with an old friend so our mission was lunch and reminiscing. We had a booth along College Avenue so the atmosphere was perfect. Our waitress Saige B could not have been nicer or sweeter to put up with us. The double cheeseburger was just great and the pecan pie was excellent. Came here for my birthday dinner because my family has several picky eaters and all left very happy. I have a gluten allergy and was very impressed with stability of the gf bun; my mom and I halfsied the Reuben and smoked salmon sandwiches and both were absolutely incredible. Reading these reviews, you can tell majority of the one-stars are the privileged gated community folks who expect the Earth and Moon to revolve around them...you know the type. As someone who's at the corner at least once every two weeks, I've never had a negative experience. The wait staff is kind and speedy, the food is absolutely worth the price, phenomenal tasting meal overall. It's pricey but absolutely worth it considering it's filling and delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and gives you a break from being an exhausted college student. A word from the wise: maybe don't feel so inclined to leave a negative review when you're 80% of the problem. Went to the Corner Room during the busy move-in weekend. The person facilitating the front was really friendly, energetic & seated us in the time frame promised. I was excited to try this place especially because they had recently painted "Plant Based Options" on the front window and even this very Yelp page claims there are vegan options. When we were greeted by the server I asked if there was a separate menu that had plant based/vegan options since I don't see any in the menu. She seemed annoyed at the question and told me there were none, so I explained I only asked bc it was painted on the window, to which she waived her hand dismissively and said, "I don't know what that's about." So, the Mexican salad with no cheese and the sweet potato fries- she then tried to upsell me protein for the salad, asking if I wanted some kind of meat. To add insult to injury- I found a bug crawling around my salad (I guess that's the protein?), so I didn't even get to eat it, though it was just basic salad. The server took the salad & took the salad off the bill- I know it wasn't her fault, it was a busy weekend & I assume she didn't make the food or put a big in it, but she wasn't exactly friendly, I felt very unwelcome from beginning when asking for what they advertised. Went on a game day Saturday was expecting it to be a way worse wait but only about 10 to 15 mins! We had a super nice waitress my mom started with the grilled sticky latte for $7 it even comes with a little piece of sticky bun! It was pretty good! I then ordered the ham and cheese for $13 but put it on a wrap with goat cheese and apricot jam was so freaking good, when I actually got home, I got ingredients to make my own at home. The service is fantastic 99% of the time. The food is always great, though things such as the complete were overcooked. I would recommend the muffin of the day, buttered and grilled. Avocado toast is a must, and their waffles reign supreme. The atmosphere is welcoming, laid back, and very communal. The mimosa tower is a staple and tradition you must have at least once. This place is a State College staple. It's right on College Ave and right next to campus. There is plenty of seating and the tables move fast. The food variety is ok, but what they do have is very good. The only hiccup in our entire visit was the service. We were seated quickly but it took time for our waitress to visit and get a drink order. Then it took time to get the drinks and place an order. Then we didn't really see her again until I flagged her down for drink refills when we were almost done with our meal. I don't want to give the wrong impression, when she was with us she was nice. It just took forever. And I noticed it wasn't super busy so I don't believe she was overworked. I'm assuming this was a one off because I've seen so many good reviews but figured I'd post my experience anyway. It's still a great place and I'll definitely be back when I visit my PSU student for football games and the like. Give it a shot for sure! read more

The cocktails were just ok. Also, the sandwich was served without the pickle and chips, though that was quickly remedied after calling it out to our waitress. The side of roasted broccoli was exceptional. However, the sandwich had potential but the bread may be the downfall. The thick slices of bread made it difficult to eat and the bread fell apart. We shared the chili and really enjoyed all the flavors in it and would absolutely order it again. We both had the Caesar salad which we also enjoyed. The croutons tasted house made. We added chicken to the salad that tasted more grilled than roasted which it says on the menu. We were very happy because we prefer grilled and it was perfectly seasoned. We enjoyed the atmosphere food service and I really loved my blackberry Mock Tail as well as the music that they play. There are many restaurants in the area to try. When it's not overrun with people on the weekends, this place is really nice to set down and eat. The sandwiches are so good, along with desserts you'll enjoy The only negatives I can really say is the Lemonade's kinda expensive at $6 per, and the chicken Alfredo's just mac and cheese with some chicken on it.
