Visiting Denver as an adult is a treat. Armed with Timeout Denver's list of best cocktail bars, my intention was clear, until it became muddled. All good. Sometimes things just work out the way they're meant to, and I'm happy I ended up at The Cooper Lounge. Beverages: 5/5. Elijah Craig Old-fashioned comes correct! The smokey joy of old fashioned, when it's made properly, cannot be overstated. Nothing but flames. I look forward to trying more selections off their menu next time I'm in town. Service: 5/5. Bartenders know what's up and know how to make a proper Old Fashioned. Say less. Ambiance: 5/5. Historic train station. Art deco style. Friendly vibes and amazing views. I'll definitely return next time I'm in town.
I've been hearing about this place for years and finally got a chance to try it after dinner! We were greeted and seated right away and were attended to all night long. The quality of drinks and food were incredible! Oysters were fresh and drinks were delightful. Would love to try a different cocktail next time while trying out their charcuterie boards that look like Pinterest quality based on the yelp pictures.
It took us 3 different days to finally get into here. First evening they were closed for a private event. 2nd evening I made the reservation for the wrong day. Finally on the 3rd day after the football game we finally snagged ourselves a table. Being on the 2nd floor you can just watch the hustle and bustle down below at the train station of travelers, patrons and people just in general going about their business. There's a high class feel to the lounge but we were OK in our Denver Broncos gear. Service was impeccable. Our waitress was attentive to us. Great personality. Our foods and drinks came out quickly. We must've ordered all their drinks on the menu with our party of 8! And they were all delicious and wonderfully made. They were all perfectly balanced. Loved every one of them. Each drink came with a little side of nuts and pretzels, which was a really nice snack while sipping on the drinks. Food wise we had their charcuterie and fromage board. Which was a very extensive cheese and meat and jam cheese board. Really good. I loved all the individual components and theres so many possibilities when added together. Their kofta was really good. The yogurt sauce added a nice coolness to the dish. Meatballs were amazing. The gambas al ajillo was really good. Good amouny of shrimps. That chili oil was amazing. The bread was a nice vehicle to soak up all that sauce! Crab croquette was also really good. Large crab cake. Good sauce on the bottom. Parisian gnocchi was really good too. Gnocchi was cooked well. Great flavors. Loved the dish. All the dishes are more like shareable appetizers. Almost like tapas. But we ordered so much we were actually full!! A mistake visit when visiting Denver!!
I really enjoyed my old fashioned and the garlic shrimp. The drink was strong but tasty and the shrimp was very garlicky. But I do like garlic. I was at the bar and the service was attentive and good. Very cool looking bar overlooking the station, very looking but accessible.
Came in very last minute and our hostess (I forgot her name but she was awesome!) and our server Archie were able to get us in and out quickly! I had a Mai Tai and it was PHENOMENAL!! This is in the Union Ststion on the second floor and it is stunning views! Absolutely wonderful!
We had an amazing cocktail! The oysters were very fresh & yummy ! Cutest little bar hidden on upper level of Union Station. I brought my sister here just for the vibe & beautiful Christmas tree was still up . Service is top tier !!
While in Denver for a conference, I met up with one of my friends who I've known since 1989. He loves to go out and when I asked where we should meet, he said "I know a place with great cocktails" and he wasn't kidding. He also knows I love trains and grand train stations so the thought of going to a cocktail bar in a train station was a slam dunk. Almost everything about this place is outstanding. The service from start to finish was impeccable. Everyone was so smooth and professional, there was never a wrong note. From the host to our servers (we had one whose shift ended mid-meal and the transition to our new server was like silk) it was outstanding. The ambiance is great too...up on a balcony above the main waiting room in Union Station, you have great views and you can feel the energy but there's also a calm about it. In some train station dining places, it can get cacophonous...I'm thinking of the old Michael Jordan Steakhouse in Grand Central Terminal. But the Cooper Lounge is lively but also mellow, if that makes sense. Drinks are great. I had planned on having one and ended up having three! They're pricey for sure but you're paying for good liquor and they're deftly made. My first was the Smoke and Spades (Iwai 45 Whiskey, Lapsang Souchong Tea, Lemon, Soda) which was good but more of a day drink from my perspective. I switched to the Cooper Lounge Old Fashioned and I loved how they asked if I wanted bourbon, rye or tequila (rye please!). That was an excellent drink. They serve some light bites and we had some baked brie (Focaccia, Danish Brie, Black Garlic, Roasted Tomato, Red Onion Jam) which was really dry and the brie was hard rather than melty. We also had duck croquettes which were good. But food isn't the point of this place, it's the cocktails and the service and on those points, the Cooper Lounge excels. If you've been to the Campbell in Grand Central, it's a similar vibe, although because it's in a more open space, it feels lighter and airier. It also ain't cheap! 100% recommend this place for a drink in Denver.
TLDR: If you're a cocktail person, this should be on your top 3 list. Cocktails: Captains Compass: Tiki perfection A Thirst Trap: Super unique A+ Vibe: Classic, classy and elegant while not being stuffy. I feel if you're a bit shaky on this place bing pretentious and unapproachable this is a good introduction to these types of places... get dressed up, have a good time, they are super accommodating lovely people! What can be better?: I have no idea... but this is a place that im sure they notice small details that I don't notice and there perfecting them. (chefs kiss!)

My friends and I came from Oklahoma for a girls' weekend and were staying at the Oxford Hotel which is right across the street from Union Station, so the location of Cooper Lounge was perfect for us on a Sunday mid-morning. Our reservations were at 11:45 am. We enjoyed the amazing views with Denver's Union Station right below us seen from the balcony view to our right, and the beautifully aesthetic bar on our left. The four of us shared different items on the brunch menu: *Brie en Croute* pastry encrusted brie with apricot jam - this dish was heavy, but perfect for sharing - the right amount of decadent to add to our our brunch tasting. *Vegetarian Quiche* delicious! I would order again if I came back here. *Softshell Blue Crab Dip* served with Ritz crackers, we didn't enjoy this dip - not enough crab, and too much panko bread crumbs. *Lobster Roll* I'm a huge fan of lobster rolls, but didn't really like this one. The bread was dry, lobster meat not chunky enough, and there was no liquid butter for dipping. *Egg Salad Sandwich* I loved the filling for this, but again with the bread - it was super dry. I pretty much just ate the filling and was satisfied with that! *Pecan Cinnamon Bun* soo delicious. I'm curious about their other pastries. *Winter Salad* a favorite amongst us all. Fresh and tasty. The pomegranate, roasted squash and pepitas added oomph and bite to an otherwise simple arugula salad. COCKTAILS We couldn't come here without trying a specialty Cooper Lounge cocktail! There are 3 we tried out: *Espresso Martini* *Pumpkin Grove* contains vodka, chai, pumpkin spice, lemon, and club soda - presentation on this cocktail was amazing with a smoking cinnamon stick. The taste was phenomenal. Not too sweet, but sweet enough for me to down the whole drink! *Riserva Prevada* a tequila, spiced pineapple, and mezcal drink. Smoky, delicious, and fancy. Located on the mezzanine of Union Station is the Cooper lounge cocktail bar that overlooks the terminal. The location is on the second floor and a little tricky to find but look for the signs to guide you up a carpeted stairwell. We arrived late at night after a Nuggets game, and there were plenty of seats available. The hostess was quick to see us in a quiet corner, and we enjoyed observing the architecture of the entire terminal. Although the bar was not that busy, we had to wait probably 15 minutes before we were greeted by a waiter. When our drinks were served, the waiter made a comment about one of the garnishes. We couldn't tell if he was trying to make a joke or what, but it made for an uncomfortable silence. I would rate the drinks a 9/10, the service 4/10, and the location 7/10
Stopped here for a drink with a friend and although it was a little tricky to find it- happy we did! Located upstairs, you go up a flight of stairs and go down the carpeted hallway to a hostess greeting you. We got seated right away and there was a wide selection of cocktail drinks and wines (some beers). The food menu was limited to more apps- we went around 4pm on a Saturday so there may be a bigger selection during their brunch hours. We ended up getting the burrata which was $18 which was delicious and enough as an app for 2 people. The atmosphere was great and although it is located in union station, it was very calm and relaxing upstairs. This place is expensive but it is well worth it!

I FINALLY got to come here with a college buddy when he was visiting (taking the train to the airport) Denver. I knew about it years ago but then it went under construction. It is beautiful and such a vibe to look over the edge and watch the movement and people within Union Station. You come here for the cocktails not the food IMO. Cocktails are fancy with the price yet you come here for the vibe and experience. Service was excellent and with each drink ordered you get a little munchie. The server paired the munchie with the cocktail. Cooper Lounge is part of the Crawford Hotel. You have to take the side stairs within Union Station to get up - right above Terminal Bar. Great place for one last drink before heading to the airport and/or great place for the first drink when meeting someone coming into Denver on the train from the airport! read more

This bar is located in the Union Station and thus tries to evoke the memory of railway travel of the past. Most of the staff uniforms are designed to convey the same feeling, and they definitely provide that same sense of refinement and old school elegance. We were escorted to our table by the charming Dakota, and Kyle was our server and he was the definition of professionalism. We had a wonderful, relaxing time in a beautiful hotel bar, and the drinks were delicious. It was one of the many wonderful things that made our trip here so special. read more

The food, drinks and atmosphere make this place. It's gorgeous and I heard really pretty during the Christmas holiday season with the lights up. My four stars go toward the food and atmosphere. The service was ... interesting. We had a large group and made a reservation. The lounge wasn't crowded at all and we were seated in a booth. There were available seats we could move near the table and we asked if we could move one next to ours for additional seating. Our waitress said she needed to ask the manager. The manager then came over to our table and provided a long explanation about reservations and fire codes and then told us no. I understand the sentiment of both of those factors but we only were at the lounge for an hour and a half (our waitress knew we needed to leave at 6:30) and 10 mins of our time was spent listening to a speech about seating. We brought cupcakes for the baby shower and were then disciplined by the manager for bringing outside food because it's a health dept safety issue. We left 5 mins after the cupcakes and yes, probably should have asked ahead of time about the cupcakes but COME ON we dropped a ton of cash and were not there long and how many times have I brought a cake to a restaurant for a celebration? It was just a lot. read more
Man oh man - The Cooper Lounge is another one of Denver's gems I drag all of my visiting family or friends to. Located above the Terminal bar in Union Station lays The Cooper Lounge. Cocktails are pricey but fabulous and serviced with a little mini snack. This is a really fun spot for a more intimate cocktail / snack and the lighting is super romantic and moody. Three friends and I split the charcuterie board and had to take home the extras which NEVER happens. Probably the best priced charcuterie for how much you're getting - no nonsense single piece of cheese and cracker you each have to split a corner of. Super fun spot that's a bit quieter and more secluded than other Union Station bars and restaurants. read more

I've been wanting to check out Cooper Lounge for YEARS! Swanky bar atop Union Station. Normally I don't want to deal with the crowdedness of Downtown Denver, but my friends and I visited at the end of a long night of bar hopping. We arrived around 11pm when it was completely empty, though we were given a hard time for not having a reservation. There were literally no other customers here! We were eventually seated at a table and handed menus. I ordered the Open Sesame ($21) on the Signature Cocktails list. Seemed like a unique drink for the amount of money but one of the biggest disappointments in culinary history. I couldn't even finish it. In fact, two out of the four cocktails at the table weren't consumed, which I've never experienced before. Dill With It ($19) was absolutely delicious though. Service was overall phenomenal. Because of its reputation, I'd be willing to give Cooper Lounge another try someday. read more
Service - Excellent Drinks - Excellent Vibes - A delight We were served by Matt (apparently there are a few of them) who was timely, warm and amiable. Ordered an old fashioned (not the $25 one, just one that was above well but below their special one), a brown sugar cocktail and then a whiskey sour. For food, got a lobster roll and split my friend's burrata. The lobster roll was pretty good but also my first time so I cannot compare it to anything but a smaller serving for $11 on the HH menu. Came for happy hour in hopes of keeping it affordable and turned out to still be quite expensive, totaling $70 for three drinks, tip and a lobster roll. That's really the only reason this review is a four. Reservations seem to be a necessity. read more

Service was great-- but truly an overpriced and average experience for a cocktail bar. The espresso martini was nothing to write home about, and $19 for the drink + 20% gratuity + an 8% cost of living" fee made a very average cocktail $26 out of the gate. Honestly-- if you want a cocktail bar vibe-- walk a couple blocks up to run for the roses or a block back to ghost donkey for killer cocktails for the ambiance. The drink, the environment, just didn't make it worth it. read more
Walking up it felt like you were in grand central station in NYC. Swanky, clean, and delicious!!! We didn't have reservation and it was a Friday night at 7pm. We waited about 5 minutes for a high top which we stood at for a few minutes, long enough to get served water and have the waiter take out drink order before a table opened up and they seated us. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our drink. We drank them and had to flag down the waiter to get out check so we could be sure to make our dinner reservation elsewhere. The check came quick. The drinks were very good but some were a bit over priced (ie. Old fashioned). I would go back just for the atmosphere and drinks. read more

Love the ambiance of this place. Conveniently located in union station. It's a perfect spot to people watch. The cocktails were good, some of the best we tried in Denver. I appreciated that they paired their cocktails with trail mix, pretty unique. A perfect spot for people to have date night or visit while in town. Service was also amazing, the staff checked up on us often. read more
1920s meets modern luxury meets comfy ass hell seating meets a transit station! Feels tucked away yet you can see all the action below, depending on your seat. Moody lighting around the bar, beautiful architectural details all around, lots of seating and seating styles. Massssssive book filled with every alcohol you can think of. Cocktails arranged by style-of-drink, huge champagne menu, and they have a bar food menu! Looked great. Looks like it gets pretty busy! We saw a few high-tops reserved and were told we'd have to leave after 30 mins for a reserved table which was super chill with us as we were just there for a drink. Speaking of, i asked the bartender for a cucumber/jalapeño mocktail or anything similar and to my luck, they had both items so my drink was spicy and reeeefreshing. We had just had dinner so I got the only dessert on the menu. I saw that it was prepackaged after I ordered but the bartender jazzed up the presentation and made it look lovely. But one bite in, ew. Terrible. There are plenty of good desserts in the same building. Partnering up with one of those businesses would be way better. Overall, incredible vibe if you're looking for somewhere unique to drink or close to Union Station! read more

Couldn't recommend any less. Tried to get a drink and they suggested a 25 min wait (even though we had already pulled up a couple of stools at the very open bar). 1/10, and a terrible partner to a great hotel. read more
An absolute must-go when you're in Denver. Make sure they aren't closed for any private events, but they have reservations available! The cocktails were superb. My favorite was the one with a cream foam- can't remember the name but so smooth, light and dangerous. The vibe and aesthetic is jaw dropping. You get to overlook the entire union station and sit below ginormous windows that make you feel so smol. Love this bar! read more
The good fortune was a really great well balanced drink. The espresso martini was also rave worthy and really great. The don't be a jerk and open sesame were very interesting drinks with lots of complex flavors if you're into Smokey drinks with complex flavors. The bartenders were great and knowledgeable. We enjoyed this bar a lot. Definitely for a nice night out because it is pricey. read more
If you go visit downtown Denver, this is a must place to visit. First of all, it's inside the historic Union Station, which itself is a beautiful place to visit and see. The Cooper Lounge sits on the 2nd level of the Union Station and overlooks the first floor. Also sits in directly in front of the hotel rooms that are also inside the Union Station. The ambiance is great to go have cocktails and vibes are great! This place was amazing to meet up with my friends from Denver and cocktails tasted great! In my party there were 6 of us, with plenty of room to relex and hang out. Although the tables/seating area is pretty open, you can still have a private conversation with your party! The cocktails are super nice and high end. They offer a wide variety of cocktails/beer/wines. I started off with some recommendations from our hostess and then transitioned to wine, as I am a big red wine drinker. The cocktails tasted good and presentation was amazing. The price of the place is what is expected in a high end place, cocktail prices are consistent with any other metro area high end bar. The hostess was nice and the service was good. The ambiance was super positive and the views of this place are amazing. Due to the place being so popular, I'd recommend reservations as this place can get busy. My party, as it was larger did have reservations and kinda early in the evening before dinner. Next time I visit Denver, this place is on the list to go again! read more

We walked in, weird vibe, cops and stuff... Anyway, we sat down at the bar, I asked the bartender for a *name brand Tequila, he offered up that there was a tequila that I might enjoy better. Sounds nice, "Sure, sounds great" I said. This guy proceeds to pour me an El Tesorro tequila (I think), and unfortunately, the bottle empties before the 2-ounce measurement.... So, bartender looks for another bottle of the suggested tequila.... I'm talking with my fiancé, enjoying the nice atmosphere... then I see this guy, reach down into the well, take the well tequila, and splash the remaining volume into my glass! Let me take a poll here: Who here thinks that mixing two tequilas, one high end, one well into one tequila rocks is okay? And if so, not telling customer? I didn't say a thing, but wasn't impressed with paying full price and him not owning up to the move, and then this mother-fucker has the balls, while on my way out, to ask me "How was the El Tosorro?" Glad I kept my cool, but bartender, next time... I see you, do better, there are a lot of former bartenders out there, you just violated the rules. Feel lucky my girl made me let it go. I was hanging out at a wine bar when our concierge recommended the Cooper Lounge as a must go to and it did not disappoint! I loved how they served the drinks and snacks - so reminiscent of how trains back in the day use to serve snacks and drinks. So perfect given its location! Other than that, the drinks were an A+! I'm big on craft cocktails and I was thoroughly impressed by their drink selections and craft! It was definitely $$$ but worth the drink and experience. What we got: Antipasti board: such a good selection of meat and cheeses! Definitely big enough for 4. Me and my friend didn't eat dinner so this sufficed for us. Japanese high ball: I'm a whiskey drinker and my god, this was perfection. read more

Do they have a full food menu for the weekend brunch, or is it only mimosas and a small cart of desserts?
Only drinks and small cart
Are underage guests allowed into the bar/restaurant? We have a bachelorette party, two of the guests are underage. Obviously wouldn't drink, but just wanted to see if they could join and enjoy the ambiance.
As long as they are not seated at the bar yes!
