This place really impressed me, it was a great experience! I sat at a high top table overlooking the main train station area, which made for some top tier people watching. I skipped alcohol since it was a Tuesday, ordered a few appetizers, and got some work done, and honestly the whole vibe was dialed. The waitress was very attentive and she did a great job staying on top of everything. I ordered off the happy hour menu, which was very reasonably priced. The olives were about $6, nicely portioned and flavored with rosemary and spices, really well done. The grilled cheese was around $7 or $8 and came with honeycomb on top, which sounds a little out there but worked really well. Definitely a standout. The deviled eggs were a bit pricier, the mustard seed on top added a nice original touch. Overall, great experience. Between the food, the service, and the people watching, it all came together. It took us 3 different days to finally get into here. First evening they were closed for a private event. 2nd evening I made the reservation for the wrong day. Finally on the 3rd day after the football game we finally snagged ourselves a table. Being on the 2nd floor you can just watch the hustle and bustle down below at the train station of travelers, patrons and people just in general going about their business. Each drink came with a little side of nuts and pretzels, which was a really nice snack while sipping on the drinks. Food wise we had their charcuterie and fromage board. Which was a very extensive cheese and meat and jam cheese board. Really good. I loved all the individual components and theres so many possibilities when added together. Their kofta was really good. The yogurt sauce added a nice coolness to the dish. Meatballs were amazing. The gambas al ajillo was really good. Good amouny of shrimps. That chili oil was amazing. While in Denver for a conference, I met up with one of my friends who I've known since 1989. He loves to go out and when I asked where we should meet, he said "I know a place with great cocktails" and he wasn't kidding. He also knows I love trains and grand train stations so the thought of going to a cocktail bar in a train station was a slam dunk. Almost everything about this place is outstanding. The service from start to finish was impeccable. Everyone was so smooth and professional, there was never a wrong note. From the host to our servers (we had one whose shift ended mid-meal and the transition to our new server was like silk) it was outstanding. The ambiance is great too...up on a balcony above the main waiting room in Union Station, you have great views and you can feel the energy but there's also a calm about it. In some train station dining places, it can get cacophonous...I'm thinking of the old Michael Jordan Steakhouse in Grand Central Terminal. But the Cooper Lounge is lively but also mellow, if that makes sense. Drinks are great. I had planned on having one and ended up having three! They're pricey for sure but you're paying for good liquor and they're deftly made. My first was the Smoke and Spades (Iwai 45 Whiskey, Lapsang Souchong Tea, Lemon, Soda) which was good but more of a day drink from my perspective. I switched to the Cooper Lounge Old Fashioned and I loved how they asked if I wanted bourbon, rye or tequila (rye please!). That was an excellent drink. They serve some light bites and we had some baked brie (Focaccia, Danish Brie, Black Garlic, Roasted Tomato, Red Onion Jam) which was really dry and the brie was hard rather than melty. We also had duck croquettes which were good. But food isn't the point of this place, it's the cocktails and the service and on those points, the Cooper Lounge excels. If you've been to the Campbell in Grand Central, it's a similar vibe, although because it's in a more open space, it feels lighter and airier. Normally I don't want to deal with the crowdedness of Downtown Denver, but my friends and I visited at the end of a long night of bar hopping. We arrived around 11pm when it was completely empty, though we were given a hard time for not having a reservation. There were literally no other customers here! We were eventually seated at a table and handed menus. I ordered the Open Sesame ($21) on the Signature Cocktails list. Seemed like a unique drink for the amount of money but one of the biggest disappointments in culinary history. I couldn't even finish it. If you go visit downtown Denver, this is a must place to visit. First of all, it's inside the historic Union Station, which itself is a beautiful place to visit and see. The Cooper Lounge sits on the 2nd level of the Union Station and overlooks the first floor. Also sits in directly in front of the hotel rooms that are also inside the Union Station. The ambiance is great to go have cocktails and vibes are great! This place was amazing to meet up with my friends from Denver and cocktails tasted great! In my party there were 6 of us, with plenty of room to relex and hang out. Although the tables/seating area is pretty open, you can still have a private conversation with your party! The cocktails are super nice and high end. They offer a wide variety of cocktails/beer/wines. I started off with some recommendations from our hostess and then transitioned to wine, as I am a big red wine drinker. The cocktails tasted good and presentation was amazing. The price of the place is what is expected in a high end place, cocktail prices are consistent with any other metro area high end bar. The hostess was nice and the service was good. The ambiance was super positive and the views of this place are amazing. Due to the place being so popular, I'd recommend reservations as this place can get busy. While in Denver for the night, my girlfriends and I decided that we were going to grab an after-dinner cocktail at The Cooper Lounge as it had popped up on a few must visit bar lists for Denver and was walking distance to our lodging. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed as it sits on the second floor of the historic Union Station and is absolutely beautiful. The vibe is classy and I really felt like I was sitting in a bar back in the 50's. I could have sat there all night soaking it all in. With that said, I did NOT want to sit there all night as we were hoping to get back to our hotel in time to take a dip in the hot tub before it closed! Unfortunately, that did not happen as our server had zero sense of urgency. We were 1 of 3 groups in the entire bar as it was a Monday evening, and yet, it would take her nearly 20 minutes to come by to ask if we needed anything else, even when our drinks were noticeably empty. This was also what I would consider a bourbon/whiskey bar as the majority of the menu was bourbon or whiskey based drinks and our server had no idea what my cousin-in-law meant when she asked for a specific bourbon chilled. She kept asking if that meant on the rocks, or stirred, or shaken....I don't drink bourbon and even I know what was being requested. It was all just a bit awkward.
