As someone who has a ton of stuff, any store that assists me in organizing my hoarding is welcome and The Container Store is perfect. This location has a ton of stuff yet is very well set up and easy to find what you are looking for. Jam packed with two floors of goodness ranging from office to kitchen to closet to even displays for collectibles. If you need it they'll have it. I wish there was one closer to me - I live in the San Fernando Valley - but this location is worth the drive. Especially since I can justify the trip with all the other things you can do in old town Pasadena. read more

Admittedly, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the Container Store, but the employees at this location are truly excellent! I've been to this location at least 10 times now, and despite frustrations I've had with the online stock system not being accurate (learned my lesson: call ahead!), the employees have always been so nice and done everything they could to help. I had to come back twice over two days recently, and was super frustrated upon my return when the online price was lower than the in-store price (which they will match), but not being able to use my birthday certificate simultaneously (which the website would allow me to do). The employee matched the price with both discounts for me, which I really really appreciated; I need to organize my ish, but I'm unemployed and on a fixed income. Came here with my husband as we were walking around Pasadena (so we didn't come in here with the intention of purchasing anything). This place reminds me of Ikea, but with a bit more emphasis of well containers or storage space. Some of the quality of the furniture/ storage looks to be a bit on a cheap side (just like Ikea). I liked browsing through the many aisles (just like I do in Ikea) and the way things were decorated. Also just thought for a few moments what it would be to have a organized closet like the ones displayed in the store. Pricing here seems on the high side for a lot of items and fair for a few items as well. Overall, don't think I'd really ever shop here, but just browse through it. read more

There seems to be a large disconnect between The Container Store policies and the employees at the Pasadena location. I placed an order online that was supposed to be ready for pickup by the end of the day. I called to see if I could get a timeline of when the order might be fulfilled. The employee informed me that "the website is wrong and it usually takes us 2-3 days to get around to fulfilling orders placed online". The order was 6 plastic containers that anyone in the back could grab in 2 minutes. I was then told that there was nothing she could do and it would be ready in a couple days. Shipping times online are 2-3 days and I would have done that had I known that in store pickup takes multiple days to be ready. read more

Let me first say, knick knack workld is what i would like to call this place. They have everything. Something for every room and really convenient items. The prices are a little much. They have something for every single space in your home. While looking for a shoe rack for the door, I stumbled upon a nifty little PILL holder that resembles a huge pill. I thought it was the grooviest-but the price was not so groovy (look at photos). As for my door holder-it definately serves as a shoe rack-but I would not recommend it. Worst pick up service. I ordered 3 items online. It didn't give me time for day of. So I ordered item. Went to pick up. It took them 15 minutes to pull items. They rang up 7 customers. If that was the case, why would one use the pick up service?!? I was in the store for 23 minutes prior to receiving my items. It would have taken me 8-10 minutes to grab items and get ringed up. I've been here half a dozen times and it wasn't until I was Christmas shopping last week that I realized there was a second floor. How embarassing! I wanted to get a bunch of stocking stuffers that I'd seen in the holiday catalog but unfortunately, I waited so long that some of the items I wanted were out of stock. I did manage to get 2 ResQMe keychains (one for Michael and one for the ex), a pet travel container for Cadie, a reusable coffee sleeve for Wendy, and some odds and ends for myself. It's remarkably easy to spend money in this place. Everything looks so useful! I'm only taking off a star because they have valet parking (boo!), even though I got rockstar parking at a meter when I went, and because their elfa stuff is priced like it's made of gold. read more

And if you don't own many goods, they sell cute little trinkets as well, including their pretty comprehensive travel section which sports a better selection of travel towels than the specialty travel store on Raymond. Depending on the season, they would feature a different sort of storage strategy du jour. Tax season? Filing stuff? Holiday season? Tins, bags, wrapping paper and aforementioned stuff containers! Having just moved to a larger place I was finding a need to populate my abode with some knick knack items, things that optimized the random sized shelving I now have and thought to give this place a try again. I stopped in a couple years ago for small, box items and I found pretty versatile items to make work. I'm surprised to find that this place is still in business, I remember the vacant lot it over took and blocked out one of my favorite pubs in Pasadena, Old Town Pub. I give them props for making it work, what changed my view of them was FINDING THE SECOND FLOOR!! Holy crap this place has a lot of stuff! I wondered about, "Oh, I could use that.", and, Yeah, that could work." is what I found muttering to myself as I wondered the tall aisles. I was comfortable as the helpful staff asked if I needed any help but didn't hover. Having spent the prior day at Ikea I was happy to find different brands and ideas for cantainers, boxes... And Ice trays! I located the couple items I needed and also a few that I also had in mind, I was about 3/4 done browsing the 2nd floor when it dawned on me that my meter ran out of time by 20 minutes! Yikes! The was a hug elevator I jetted for, items paid and on my way... No ticket! Whew! I read another review here that complained about the parking, having been a local to this area for decades I know areas to find parking, and, I know that I'm going to have to walk because I have a truck and I hate to pay a ton for convience. There's a parking structure located directly across Union from here. The street parking I found was just up around the corner so no big. I also read that this place is pricey, I guess they are. Beware of making any online purchases from this store. I made an online purchase for pick up in October. Stated my order will not be ready for 3 weeks. When I called for pick up they informed me my order was not yet ready. Come December (3 months later) still not ready after having to call them. No word from them to give me an update, no apologies. Dear Container store, How can I possibly say anything nice about you? You were everything a woman dreads in a first date. Your employees were sluggish, non comital, and evasive. You didn't have anything on the floor that I wanted. You're in the middle of an Elfa sale (waive the carrot in front of my face why don't you) but you keep all your best merch down in the basement where only sales associates can go. And you were simply too busy, or unprepared, to take care of me. You were too busy designing complete closets and entertainment centers from SCRATCH for other guests to simply handle my request for one more driftwood melamie shelf (which honestly I could have done myself, if you would only put your materials on the floor where self-sufficient guests can help themselves.) You also play hard to get, by planting yourself directly center in a log jam of one way streets, with no street parking and no parking garage for at least 2 blocks. I actually got semi-lost trying to find your front door. My trek to your hallowed halls certainly wasn't easy considering I had to tote the return items back in with me from where I parked on the opposite side of Colorado. And never mind that my meter money was running out as I anxiously implored "employee" after "employee" to assist me. They were too busy stacking shopping carts. This place can be dangerous if you're just browsing! Everything seems like a good thing to get when it comes to organizing your beautiful home. I would say focus on one room at a time! If it's your first time shopping here, sign up for their newsletter online and you'll automatically get a 10% coupon in your email. Hello my Yelpies, This place is definitely a go-to place if you ever want to design your home. Such as closet, cabinet, and little stuff in the bedroom. Parking here is great, they actually have a 90 minutes FREE parking lot right across the street. I decided to use valet because I was in a rush and I was in there for a good 2 hours, parking was only $2.50. That was definitely very convenient for people who are in a rush. I came here to help my friend look for some hooks for his closet, since he order in bulk there was some miscalculation in the shipping and we were missing 2 of the hooks. But they were nice enough to give it to us for free without actually checking our previous order, so that was definitely a perfect service. I love this place because you can get anything you want, perfect for Christmas shopping. If you need any boxes, wrapping paper, decorations, baskets they have it here. I also bought some plain white boxes for my work, since I do Real Estate we try to give out gifts to our clients at the end of our transaction. The boxes are perfect size for our gifts and it definitely adds an elegance to our presents. One downside is that this place is a little on the pricey side, I would suggest going during holiday season since they have like 20% discount on many of their product. I bought those boxes for $3.99 from $5.99, so that was definitely a plus side. My friend love how they create his closet, he wants it in a specific way and also on the right side of his closet he wants a jewelry box for his significant other, that was definitely one of the best design I've ever seen. Love how detailed they are when it comes to helping their customers, he is definitely very happy with the result. Overall, 5 stars for service, 4 stars for product (just because it is on the expensive side) and 4 stars for environment and decoration. I'm that guy who has a place for everything, the type whose penchant for organizing teeters on obsession, the type who can spend a couple of hours in this store every time I venture in. I recently got a new place and discovered the closets to be anything but efficient. I called California Closets for a free consultation. The verdict was well over 3G for something I couldn't imagine would make my closets more efficient. I gave Closet World a call and based on their design requirements, the closet they designed would actually consume more space than it would provide (as well as drain my wallet). Thoroughly depressed I wandered into The Container Store to "find my center". Although I'm sure I noticed it before, I had never really given their ELFA Closet Systems more than a passing glance. To my good fortune, a young woman by the name of Paulette was there to walk me through all the available options. Unlike my previous experiences where the design burden was on all on me, Paulette simply asked for the dimensions of my closets. Since my time was short she offered to email me a couple of mock ups once she understood what my needs were. True to her word, I had a few configurations emailed to me later that evening along with a note offering to truly tailor the closets to my needs and budget requirements at my leisure. Paulette and I quickly became BFF. After more than two weeks of notes and visits I was ready to take the plunge. Once you truly realize how flexible and efficient the ELFA systems are you quickly find yourself looking for other areas of your home to install them in. Installation is SO EASY and best of all you can keep adding to it as your needs change. Pieces are cut to your specifications at no extra charge and can even be returned if you happen to forget to consider things like light switches and outlets (who forgets about obvious things like that?). My closets now fit far more items and are aren't attempting to defy the laws of physics by having multiple items occupy the same space. I also have room to add additional shelves and bars once I finish moving in. Best of all, I spent about 1/3 of what everyone else was quoting and gained a new BFF in the process. It's a breath of fresh organized air for all of you undercover (and not) OCD peeps. I can literally spend hours going up and down the aisles looking at all the gadgets, storage units, organizers, boxes and food storage containers. It's sick, I know, but I can't help it. Came in here looking for cellophane treat bags for vday, but they didn't have any. So I went up to the counter to get validation thinking that they would give it to me since even World Market (which is across the way) gives me validation the times I go in looking for something but have to leave empty handed. Rudely, they didn't. But luckily, I was there such a short amount of time that I was able to leave during grace period and not pay. Turned off by this location due to strict parking rules. It really prevents ppl from coming to browse and pushes away potential customers. I guess Container Store must be doing bad to be so stingy with their validations. read more

I do not understand why I love containers so much, but I'm so happy that there is a store out there for me. It's a tad pricey, but they have every type of container for every possible thing you could want to store: kitchen, gift wrap, vanity, batteries, ornaments, car care, etc... If there's something you just need to contain (like your kids' stuff in the back seat) or like me you just love containers (it seems like there should be a medical sounding term for this) you should definitely stop by. Because this is Pasadena's Old Town, parking is expensive. There are a few lots nearby that are free for 90 minutes and are within walking distance, but you'll want to check the Pasadena City website before you leave home. read more

This is the coolest store ever. Seriously. The second I walked through the doors and grabbed a cart I felt like I went into an organizational daze. WOW, they had everything. I started throwing stuff into my cart that I was convinced would make myself and my very disorganized fiance more organized. File folders, photography boxes, storage bins that fit under your bed, stackable bins for your closet, shoe racks, etc etc etc. It is a two floor organizational dream. So very fantastic. The store is pretty reasonably priced. Some of the items were oddly expensive but for the most part the stuff was priced well. They were having a lot of great sales when I was there which made my visit even more FUN. My fabulous yelper friend Traci D. and I must have said to each other "WOW, this place is awesome" or "OHHH, I really need this" about five hundred times to each other during the course of our visit to this awesome store. I ended up buying all sorts of cool stuff. Special linen bags specifically made for bras that I have never seen before (different from the type that they sell at Target!), tupperware that has a separate compartment in it for dip or hummus, a salad container that has a compartment for dressing, cedar blocks for our closets that make everything smell like lavender (poor paul!!!!!!!!), and a few other oddities that made me quite happy. For me, there just wasn't much I felt I couldn't live without; for the items that did interest me, I'd pick them up, look at the price, and realize I could probably get it cheaper at Target or Ikea. My single purchase was a $.69 pill case. It's clear and rectangular and very unremarkable. It's smaller than my thumb...and yet a couple dozen of them were lined up in tiny crooked rows on a shelf. I just had my new elfa closet installed on Friday and the process couldn't be easier (because I did not install it myself). I went in and had my closet designed. Here are a few tips that you should know: - Of course the dimensions of your closet. - Whether you have a base board (like crown moulding for the bottom side of the floor). - Where the outlets are We had the installers come and install the system. They probably saved us from a wasted day and an argument or two. The installers had to shift the closet design around because of our outlets. We didn't tell the designer this and she didn't ask us. Also, there was something funny about our closet because everyone at the container store seemed confused when we went in to buy another rod. It's super confusing, I'm so glad we left it up to a professional. I bought the closet system during their annual elfa sale and it was very affordable. read more

If you want plastic storage containers and size isn't critical, go to Big Lots: it's 50% cheaper. If you want cute desky/closety storage things and size isn't critical, go to Target: it's 30% cheaper. But if you need something extremely specific in terms of size and material -- say, a matte grey wire mesh basket with clip attachments that is between 3 and 4 inches wide and at least 6 inches deep -- The Container Store is the only place you will certainly find it. They are like the Noah's Ark of storage -- they have every freaking box-like item ever designed by humans, each available in 16 sizes and 3 colors. Yes, you pay a premium, but it's worth the extra $2-10 to be in and out in 30 minutes with something you touched and measured yourself and know will work, rather than spending hours driving from store to store, or on the internet guessing whether stated measurements are correct, calculating shipping costs, and wondering if it's going to be crappier than it looks. I am an organization fiend, and this is the only mall-type store where I am DANGEROUS. The staff is attentive and fairly knowledgeable. Parking is impossible unless you use their valet, which is $2.50 to park as long as you want, as long as you buy something. It's good if you have other errands in the neighborhood, because then you can park all day. If it's Saturday, DO NOT park in the paid lot across the street -- it looks like it's the weekday price of $1/half hour, but it's really $6 for all day and I am mad at them for suckering me by not posting that fact in bigger letters. read more

This place is awesome! I would give it 5 stars but I deducted one from our experience with their valet parking. We did the valet parking, shopped in the store & when we came out we had forgotten to get our valet ticket stamped in the store. The valet when we said we'd go get it stamped said "No, it's too late to do that" & made us pay the full price. Not saying it's an extravagant dollar amount but he saw we had 5 bags of stuff from the store so it wouldn't have been too much to ask to give us the discounted price for parking. Now about the store itself? This place is awesome around Christmas time for adorable wrapping paper, gift boxes, boxes, ribbons & gift tags. I came here this past weekend because I needed some closet storage/shelving. I like how this store is large!, 2-stories of goodness. Upon entering (with my Double Vanilla Tea Latte from Coffe Bean), it was bright and organized! The people working there are really friendly and asked if I needed help finding anything or what I was trying to get organized. I decided to help myself and browsed the store selection on my own. They have a lot of cute things....I like the gift wrap section. Lots of goodies. I ended up finding what I needed for $16.99! and checked out. The person at the cashier was really nice too. I left feeling satisfied and one step closer to being organized. I went back home and had the bf help me assemble my shelves.
