I came to The Conservatory for breakfast twice during my stay at the Ritz Carlton. Our stay included $84 credit towards our breakfast. I have to say I was very pleased with the quality of service: there was always someone nearby to ask questions, and each of our servers were beyond welcoming and helpful. Nothing beats an ocean view in Half Moon Bay. I was glad to be seated near the windows to enjoy the ambiance. All of the seats had a good view though. I was excited to try a handful of different breakfast options: berries, belgian waffles, mimosas, oatmeal, hashbrowns, and the lox bagel. I wasn't even hungry but I finished everything. Maybe it was the mimosas I had, but each dish was very appetizing and filling. Our server noticed that I love mimosas, so she personally made me a special one: Kombucha mimosa! The crab tartare portion was quite small and mixed with cabbage; the taste was just okay. The clam chowder was a bit too salty, though one positive was that it did not have the sandy texture that chowder at many other places sometimes has. The ribeye, burger, and other meat dishes were all good, and the ribeye in particular was tender and well prepared. The main downside was the service. We were helped by three different staff members--two gentlemen and one lady--and unfortunately none of them made us feel welcomed. Their manner felt robotic, with flat expressions and little warmth. One thing I found especially odd was that the restaurant asked when we made the reservation whether we were celebrating anything, and we told them it was for a birthday. Usually that question suggests some small acknowledgment, such as a complimentary dessert or a warm birthday greeting, but here nothing happened at all. We were staying at the Ritz-Carlton and this was one of the places to eat. We had breakfast here. No reservations and got seated as soon as she set the table. Right next to the window looking out to the ocean. The place is really nice. There were a lot of people here on a Saturday morning. The staff was really nice and friendly. I ordered a hot chocolate when she took my drink order. I didn't want whipped cream but it came with it as they brought it to the table. Luckily my wife loves whipped cream. I didn't complaint. I got the pancakes with lemon curd and fresh fruit. The pancake was so light and yummy. I really liked it and the fruit was fresh. The wife got the eggs benedict. It was really great too. We came here for breakfast. It was a nice day, and the sun was out, and it brightened up the dining area. We were seated by the window. Our server was friendly. She brought out a complementary little shot of a smoothie. I forget what she called it, but it had orange juice, turmeric, ginger, and I can't remember. It didn't taste great. Not for me. My husband and I decided to order the eggs benedict and pancakes to share. The eggs benedict was good, and it came with house made hashbrowns, which was ok. I've had better. The hashbrown was a little hard, like it was over cooked. It was flat and hardly had potatoes in the middle of it. It was not good. It was more like a big hard chip. The pancakes were very good. This entire property is very special to us as is the area since I grew up near here. The employees are some of the best in class, easy to see and feel here. Not only does this apply for this specific area, but the entirety of the property. The food was excellent, which was necessary given the price point here. The Wagyu Bolognese stole the show, just fantastic! The ambiance here speaks for itself. The wonderful meal is offset by the $35 valet fee you need to pay since there is no self park. Of course, you can park on Hwy 1 and walk to the hotel at night as an option. This charge is not disclosed on the website, YELP, OpenTable or any other website that unless you are getting dropped off, and drive a car to dinner, you will need to contend with. I think locations this unique should disclose their Vaket requirement upfront like a minimum charge per person on the weekend or other charges when using a credit card for example. read more

The food won't blow your socks off, especially given the price tag but will suffice if you want to stay on the property. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. The complimentary scallion bread was soft and tasty. My friend and I got the iberico pork loin and the cioppino. The pork loin was juicy and had that nice nutty Iberico flavor but it was a little bland and tougher than expected. I get that the point is to let the pork shine but it was missing a flavor enhancer of some sort. Between the two dishes, I preferred the cioppino. As far as cioppino goes, it was good but would not land in my top 3 cioppino list. I did appreciate that the crab required little work in this presentation. read more

The Conservatory is basically the only restaurant for dinner at the Ritz, Half Moon Bay. Quite honestly, we wouldn't have even originally chosen to dine here if it weren't for the convenience with that. I had booked a reservation through the hotel concierge, specifically requesting for a window table. You'd think that since we were hotel guests, the request would have been prioritized and honored, but it wasn't. If you're not sitting by the window which overlooks the views of the ocean, it basically just feels like you're at any underwhelming hotel restaurant. Thankfully our server did have wonderful table-side service as he was super on top of checking in on us, water refills, crumb sweeping, etc. For food we ordered 2x cioppino, corn fritters, and 2x strawberry mules which totaled to over $200. Everything was just OK; the cioppino flavors could have been better. Though I did like that it came out and remained piping hot. The strawberry mule tasted a bit watered down and was light on the strawberry part. Overall, everything was definitely overpriced and average at best. We came to The Conservatory for a casual Saturday lunch and were seated right away, even as a party of thirteen. They placed us in the private wine room, which was perfect for our group and gave the whole meal an easy, relaxed feel. Service was excellent throughout: waters topped up constantly, dishes cleared smoothly, and the pacing felt natural as we moved from drinks to entrées to dessert. Between kids and adults, we covered a good portion of the lunch menu. The Kale & Sweet Potato Salad had a refreshing mix of greens and soft roasted cubes, finished generously with parmesan. The Pan-Seared Branzino arrived with crisped skin over grilled asparagus and dots of garlic aioli. The Half Moon Bay Cioppino came in a small pot packed with mussels, shrimp, crab, and white fish, with toasted bread on the side to soak up the broth. Several people ordered the Steak Frites, a compact Wagyu strip loin with Café de Paris butter and thick-cut fries. The Boletus Risotto was creamy and full of mushrooms, with a drizzle of aged Modena vinegar. The Westholme Wagyu Burger was solid with melted cheddar, bacon, and fries. The kids' spaghetti with marinara was simple and well-received, and the chocolate chip cookie was warm and (according to the experts) "yummy." Desserts for the adults were nicely done: the Golden Hour Gateau had a polished chocolate finish with light whipped topping, while the Coastal Midnight was an airy mousse with crisp chocolate curls. Drinks were taken care of with equal attention; everything from cold-pressed juices (Earth and Berry Bliss) to the Fitzgerald Old Fashioned, margaritas, hot chocolate, and iced lattes came out in the right rhythm. For a full table, the staff handled it all smoothly. Value-wise, it's in line with what you'd expect at a Ritz-Carlton property. Prices are on the higher end, and while the food is good, it's not aiming for the level of ambition you'd find at Navio next door. But as a relaxed, family-friendly hotel restaurant with attentive service and a comfortable setting, it delivers what it's meant to. Overall, a very pleasant lunch with excellent service, thoughtful pacing, and a menu that works well for groups and kids. I celebrated my 60th birthday here with family and friends, and while the evening itself was memorable, the process leading up to it was extremely disappointing. After meeting with the event coordinator in person and confirming all the details -- reservation time, menu, and a $49 steak upcharge -- she sent the confirmation form two days before the event with the wrong time and wrong menu item. I called and emailed multiple times and got no response. On the day of my birthday, I called again and was given the runaround on the phone before finally being escalated to the event manager just to get our agreed-upon reservation honored. He was apologetic but offered zero compensation for the stress and inconvenience. Then came the bill: the Ribeye steak upcharge was $60, not the $49 we agreed on. Valet $50, 26% gratuity and private room fee $500 were also added on top of an already expensive evening. I didn't make a fuss since my family had driven two hours for my special day, but I left feeling taken advantage of. To be fair, the service staff at the dinner were accommodating and made the evening enjoyable. However, for the amount of money spent, the lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through from the event coordinator is unacceptable. I went to the Conservatory with a few friends for the high tea experience. I had never had a tea experience before, and was excited to try it. The staff was friendly and considerate. The experience itself was $125 per person, and $150 per person to add champagne. You get to pick a tea flavor for yourself and get a variety of pastries, scones, and sandwiches. All in all, I just don't feel the experience was worth the price. I got a whole kettle of Jasmine tea to myself, and the tea had good flavor. The sandwiches were okay and so were the pastries. The pastries were holiday flavored and themed, but a majority of them missed the mark and weren't spectacular. The scones were more like biscuits and were very good. One thing I found interesting is that the restaurant is closed between 3pm-5pm or 6pm. Our reservation was at 3pm, meaning we dined in while the restaurant was closed. As a result, I think everything (including the sandwiches) were prepped ahead of time and just plated for us when we arrived. In addition, we asked for some butter to go for the remaining scones we had and were told the kitchen was closed so we couldn't have any additional. This is strange to me that we would be dining while the kitchen was closed, but definitely gives me the impression that nothing was fresh, which is not something I would expect from an expensive dining experience like this. Overall, I am glad I got to experience this at least once, but I would not return or recommend it to others. I cannot comment on the food at the restaurant outside of what was served during the tea experience. read more

Took a nice lunch at the Conservatory, have to say it was a fantastic experience. It was just two of us and I called day of and they were happy to get us a table for lunch. Drinks were nice very balanced. Also highlighted they had a great options for mocktails my guest got a nonalcoholic espresso Negroni which was surprisingly very delicious. It was so nice to see mocktails that weren't just overpriced juice in a fancy cup. Food was super flavorful, I got the salmon and my guest got the steak frites. My only thought was the portion size for both entrees were smaller then you would think. The desserts are a must have they have a super cute dessert cart that they bring around to your table and give you a full run down of everything, we shared the chocolate mousse. Super rich and creamy overall phenomenal . Stand out highlights is the service from when we got to the ritz to when we left. Our server Maria was so kind and helpful through the whole experience making sure we had everything we needed and paced our whole lunch beautifully. The valets were so kind and even though we weren't staying at the hotel they had notice our Tesla was on a low battery charge and charged it for us without even telling us while we were at lunch it was such a nice surprise and it's the attention to little details like that just amaze me. read more

Here for a work event and tacked some personal time on. Dinner at this restaurant in the hotel was more like 3.5 stars but I rounded up for our fabulous server Dean. We did not book a reservation (mistake in hindsight) and were told there would be a short 30 minute wait for our table but we could have full dinner at the bar high top. We kept our name on the wait list and walked around for about 10 minutes to take sunset pics. We came back and saw there was a spot in the bar so we sat down. We planned to let the bar server know to remove us from the waitlist but he never came. He served tables next to us but let me know he would need to come back for us. Honestly not his fault he seemed overwhelmed. After 15 minutes we gave up since our quoted wait time was nearly up anyway and we were seated at a two top in the man restaurant. This where things got a lot better. Dean was delightful, helped us through the menu and timed our meal perfectly. Started with bread course and a cocktail. I really like extra cherries in my Manhattan and often when I ask for that I receive 1 extra cherry. Dean did not skimp on the extra cherries and they were delightful. We share steak tartar (not pictured because we dug I to too quickly like starved maniacs) and we cleaned the plate. Risotto was good but slightly too al dente for me. Dessert was a rockstar with the cute cart showing off the options. Dead described our Apple treat perfectly to us and we were very pleased with what we ordered. My daughter said - usually deserts like this look awesome but don't taste that good and this was an exception to that. Beautiful and tasty. We got complimentary health shots, something I make a lot back home so that wasn't entirely mind-blowing. I feel most people are here for the view, and it's quite beautiful! We dined at the Conservatory on NYE and had both an amazing meal and a fantastic time. I'm a sucker for Beef Wellington and this one was no slouch. Ample and absolutely scrumptious. Our server was perfectly attentive, boisterous and knowledgeable. His only miss was in not delivering my amontillado, ala Edgar Allen Poe, and when I pointed it out he apologized profusely, immediately brought it out and then comped it. Other diners at our table had the Colorado Lamb Rack, the Beurre Monte Poached Maine Lobster and the Mishima Wagyu Burger along with an assortment of champagne, wine and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. Everyone very much enjoyed their meals and drinks. On night two (Jan 1) at Conservatory, just my wife and I this time, we were seated on the glass overlooking the Ocean Terrace and cliffs, and got to watch the sunset. Beautiful. While I had my tastes set on the off-menu clam chowder followed by the beef cheek, my wife had decided we were going to share the Tsar Nicoulai Caviar with blinis and all the typical caviar accoutrements followed by the 22 oz Char-Grilled Cote de Boeuf. Kimi later claimed our reservation was for six people, while four of us were standing right in front of her and she was holding four menus. We clearly booked for four. She still insisted we couldn't sit by the window because of some made-up rule about "six-person tables." This wasn't just poor service--it felt deliberately unwelcoming. What a beautiful place within the Ritz Carlton hotel. I would recommend making a recommendation so you avoid a wait time. The service was great and the food was good. The view of the ocean is at every window which was nice. Prices were high, but we expected that. Parking is also a struggle if you don't want to do valet parking ($50). We ordered the steak frites (4 oz is really not much.. but the meat was cooked well. The french fries were very salty though), Wagyu burger which was a good size and my husband said tasted good, and crispy chicken tenders and salmon for the kiddos which actually were really good and not too salty. It was nice that kids under 2 get free food. Overall, good experience! After the meal, we took a walk by the ocean which was beautiful. read more

It was a beautiful view looking down from our window table. There is an outdoor seating with fire pit by the ocean. The food was actually super good. My favorite thing this time was the Ahi Tuna Tartare. Very fresh and delicious! Service was very attentive. After dinner, on the way out, there was a parking space you can park there and a walking path will lead you to the beach. It's so relaxing and peaceful watching the sunset on the beach. We were there as a party of 15 ok a Sunday noon. The parking there is pretty expensive at $50, but when you get the check you forget about it, since everything is a but pricey there. The view of the ocean in the restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful. It invites you to keep looking at it for hours. If you are making a reservation, make sure you will get a window seat. They start the service with bread and butter. The bread has small pieces of onion, which is absolutely delicious. My wife ordered king salmon, and I ordered Cioppino. The portion size is mixed here. The salmon was very very small with a little side. Although it was delicious, it was surprisingly small. The Cioppino was very very delicious, and it is a lot of food. Crab, fish, shrimp and perhaps other kinds of seafood was there. Very good food, 好吃 The service here is also amazing. The staff are very kind, humble and with sense of humor. The check though has some hidden fees which I did not appreciate. I wish they were upfront about those fees. We also ordered from the kids menu for my 1.5 years old. He loved the food they bring. Even though he does not eat veggies at home, he did eat all carrots and celery they bring. He also liked the fries and fried chicken as well. Stayed at the Ritz last weekend after a stay at pebble beach. Service was excellent. However, the dining was crazy expensive, even compared to Pebble Beach Resorts. Fair enough since it's the only high end option in the area. What truly disappointed was my food. Breakfast was good but for $36 chilaquiles, portions were small. The worst was my steak at dinner. Ordered the $120 Australian Wagyu medium rare. When it arrived, it was about 1/2" thick and well done. Absolutely NO pink. Hard to do such thin meat med rare while also getting it to required temp. So the cut was horrible and the result. To be fair, it tasted okay but not the "melt in your mouth" quality you'd expect from true Wagyu. They did offer to make another but by then, the to-be-Mrs would be eating alone, followed by me eating alone. Not ideal for our engagement weekend. If you order a steak here, be sure to ask how thick the cut is. Side note: Wagyu at The Tap Room two days earlier was about 1.5" thick and cooked to perfection. read more

This is specific to the Festive Afternoon Tea experiences. Do not come here for a relaxing festive family experience. It is not worth bringing children (or frankly anyone). Would consider other festive tea experiences as this simply doesn't deliver. I was really hoping it would deliver but it was a pretty big let down. (1) Beyond the fact that the hotel is decorated for the holidays, there really isn't anything "festive" about the tea. Maybe two desserts had festive sprinkles on it. No piano, no carolers. There was the typical holiday soundtrack and carolers singing at the valet stand - which made no sense to me. Wouldn't you want them singing to your diners? (2) For a setting that had what seemed like a large waitstaff, you still had to flag people down. A lot of waiting, a lot of repeat asks, and overall lack of awareness for paced dining service. We had to ask for plates, clearing of plates, getting spoons for tea, holding back food that didn't fit on the table, etc. I tend to be pretty patient but because the table was so small, having 2 children, and the tea cake tray being ridiculously sized, it was not enjoyable. Maybe a bigger table would help? Not sure how 4 adults could comfortable sit at this table. It's hard to discreetly ask for help, it feels like the staff can't see you. (3) No parking validation and no other option beyond valet. No offer to validate even though you're forced to valet in order to dine there - feels like a $50 gouge. We dined today at the conservatory. We were impressed by the service we received. The way the staff handled an issue and solved it was amazing. The staff attentiveness was beyond what we anticipated.
