We visited as a party of 11, and unfortunately, the experience fell short. I ordered a ribeye medium-rare, but it arrived rare. While the staff offered a replacement, it took 25 minutes to arrive--by which time my entire group had already finished their meals. I asked to cancel the order, but was told it was already done and offered to-go. Since we were staying in the property's bungalow tents without proper kitchenette supplies, eating an expensive steak with plastic utensils wasn't a viable solution. Service was slow across the board, which is frustrating as this is the only dining option on-site. While I appreciate the attempt to fix the steak, the execution and wait times made for a very let-down evening. read more

Lovely place that was recently renovated. Clean, simple look that has lightness in color, warm wood trim, and two fireplaces. Open space with good seating available inside. You can eat on the wrap around porch, but most are single chairs and rocking chairs for great hanging out with a nice view. Grilled chicken sandwich was filling with good meat. Family enjoyed their different meals. Sea food for a majority of the menu with something for everyone. Very nice staffing that was right on top of all the tables. We've been here several times, and prior to the new ownership, I felt this spot was overpriced, a bit underwhelming, and usually understaffed. While I have reservations about other changes at Costanoa under the new ownership, I think Cascade has actually gotten better. They offer a wider range of foods now, at a wider range of price points, and the quality seems a bit better. Before, Cascade was trying hard o just be a fancy restaurant but underperformed in its execution, so we'd end up dropping fancy-dinner money on food that turned out to be inconsistent and pretty mediocre. However, at our last visit, the food really hit the mark: the roasted cauliflower lentil quinoa salad was so flavorful, and adding a grilled shrimp skewer balanced this dish into a filling meal. I also enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches, which one can order online for pickup (since Pine Tent reduced its hours and options, Cascade is the only Costanoa breakfast option). My husband said he enjoyed his burger, and also added that he would choose to upgrade with some add-on options next time. Our server was helpful and attentive, and the ambiance of our fireplace adjacent table was pleasant. I feel meh about shifts in experience quality elsewhere at Costanoa, but Cascade is worth a revisit. read more

I was visiting the local lighthouse when I chanced upon this gem of a place tucked away on the coast. They offer great seating both indoors and outdoors on the patio. You're welcomed with bread and what seemed like herb-infused butter, a nice touch to start the meal. I ordered the single plate Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, and wow, the portions are huge. Everything on the plate was delicious. The rosemary chicken was well-seasoned, fried but not greasy. The mashed potatoes and gravy paired perfectly. The biscuit was light and airy, and the coleslaw served as a refreshing palate cleanser. There's also a lovely area to walk around before or after your meal. The service was friendly and efficient. I highly recommend making a stop if you're cruising up or down the highway. read more

You'd think in a remote location like Costanoa, that you'd be stuck patronizing a mediocre onsite restaurant. I was concerned it might be like being on a cruise ship with the same buffet day in and day out. Otherwise we'd have to drive at least an hour in either direction of Hwy One to find a proper place to dine. That's why it was such a pleasant surprise to find the food at this restaurant quite edible. Jamie W and I actually made a reservation on our first evening in Costanoa. It was pretty busy with a lot of families staying overnight and having dinner here. Although we camp at Costanoa regularly, we have avoided the restaurant for years due to a very poor experience more than a decade ago. Unfortunately, a traffic accident on Highway 1 left us with limited dining options, so we decided to give Cascade Restaurant another chance. We mentioned our past experience to our server, who assured us the food had improved significantly and that we would have a much better meal this time. Sadly, that was not the case. There were three of us dining, and none of the dishes we ordered were enjoyable. One particularly odd example was the mashed potatoes, which contained chunks of apple, creating a strange and unpleasant combination. Given the high prices, the quality of the food was very disappointing. Based on this visit, we still would not recommend Cascade Restaurant and do not plan to return. read more

God bless the kids working here-I don't mean child labor, just kids straight outta college, their first job after that Humanities degree, mostly trying to get their flirt on. That's the waiter crew. They're so sweet, so kind and SO untogether! Food arrives cold sometimes, you might wait a while, you might get a "I've never eaten anything here before" if you ask the wrong staff person for their favorite item on the menu. And you might get annoyed and then you'll see that they're just kids in suits! They're doing their best! But it does make you wonder what's going on managerially to have a house run so loosely. We stayed at the campgrounds here and ate here every meal. The clams were the best thing I had from the lunch and dinner menu. Chicken pot pie tasted like cream of celery soup with a biscuit on top. I found this place on Yelp and even though it not up to standards we usually select, we gave it a try because of the location right off of Highway 1. They were very accommodating for a big party and were able to change the amount of people at the last moment. Overall the food was OK, but what went downhill quickly was the service. Here is what went wrong: 1. They got a few orders wrong. Wrong combinations of meats on tostadas, wrong accompaniments. 2. Unwashed lettuce in Caesar salad (had sand in lettuce). 3. Food came in random orders. 4. Our drinks order came after all the food had arrived and we had started to eat. 5. When we asked to split the check at the end (partly our fault for not requesting that at the beginning), our server, Luis, called one of us an a**hole! When we confronted him he said that "he was behaving like an a**hole" and he didn't actually called him an a**hole!! 6. Same server actually used the F-word in front of another member of our group. 7. When we asked to speak with manager, that server just said manager was unavailable. 8. They charged us 11.25% sales tax, when Pescadero has a sales tax rate of 9.38%. All in all, a most unhappy ending to what was a very good day for our group. Needless to say, we will not be back! For food, my wife and I ordered: 1. Clam chowder - not what you expect from the coast and definitely lacking in clam meat. 2. Goat cheese and Beets salad - good size and good tasting. 3. Came for dinner without staying on the campground, cabins, or lodge. The atmosphere is fun: low ceiling, big log cabin with a bar area, tables and additional upstairs seating. The doors are open. We were greeted and immediately seated. The friendly server brought a water carafe for the table (which his colleague immediately refilled when needed). We ordered two apps and four entrees: grilled artichokes (3 halves were served), calamari, crispy chicken sandwich, grilled fish tacos, halibut, and the steak. Unfortunately, everything came out pretty much on top of each other. The presentation of all the food was really nice. But somehow it was'nt anything to write home about: The proteins were dry all around, the breading was heavy, and for all dishes but the halibut, the flavor was just not there. We did enjoy the cocktails La Mora Mojito and No-jito, though. Those were great & I would recommend trying them. The service was terrible. Everyone seemed busy with lots of tasks with the exception of paying attention to customers. We were promptly seated and brought bread, which must have been magic that turned our party of 10 invisible. After sitting for 18 minutes, someone came and took our drink orders. Then 20 minutes after that we finally got to reveal our little secrets about what we wanted to eat AND drink. The first drink order must have been just for practice. The ambiance felt anemic and sad. The previous 2 years that we'd been there, the restaurant was a fun place to celebrate and socialize. Now it's empty shell of what it once was. That was our third and last time there. We have been dining here for 25 years. It's been a roller coaster of ups and downs. When it's good it's really good and when it was bad it was horrible. This also applies to the service. We actually stopped going for a while. The last year has been consistently on an upswing. We've visited at least once a month for the last year. Taking it slow and noticing all the positive changes both inside and outside. Last night was stellar ! From the moment we walked in. We were recognized and acknowledged immediately by Erin. She asked what our seating preference would be. Great start ! Decided to be near one of the fire places. From that point Frankie took our appetizer and drink order. Calamari and their special Negroni didn't disappoint. We decided to wait a bit to order and just take in the new lighting, art, furniture and upholstery. All very nice improvements. Frankie took our orders, fresh halibut on mashed butternut squash topped with fried kale and pot roast . Beautifully prepared and delicious ! Enjoyed every moist savory bite. Save room for dessert ! Mixed berry crumble with ice cream and an affogato for me. Perfect ending. I think we are finally completely comfortable with the food quality and great service. We may have to up our visits to twice a month ! Oh, and they even made sure we got the locals discount. 4 stars considering Cascade is a restaurant in the Costanoa campgrounds, but if this was a standalone restaurant anywhere else I'd likely lean 3 stars. However if you're staying at Costanoa or looking for a restaurant in this rural coastal area, Cascade is a good option. I made a reservation on the website for dinner on a Friday night and we were seated inside near the fireplace by the bar. We started with the Artichoke Croquettes and those were tasty and reminded me of Arancinis in a way. We ordered cocktails and my gin rosemary drink was overly sweet. Almost too sweet to drink, making me wish I would have ordered wine instead. I ordered the Steak Frites and subbed the fries for Mashed Potatoes and my partner had the Lemon Herb Roasted chicken. My steak was standard and the chicken was pretty good. We were too full to make it to dessert but there is the option to take dessert to-go if you'd like. Our server was nice and attentive. Our dinner was $140 for two, so definitely a pricier dinner but appreciated that they have the restaurant as an option on the campsite. I would return again when coming back to Costanoa. read more

First review I've ever written on yelp. This was one of the worst dining experiences ever. Our group of 9 entered the restaurant for our 5:30 reservation on a Friday night. The host made a big deal about how their system said we had a party of 6. Didn't know what the big deal was considering the fact that the restaurant was empty??? Took close to 10 minutes to seat us, and they weren't nice about it. Our server was a mess. It took her 2 tries to take our table's drink orders. We ended the order with listing out a few appetizers we had wanted, she never put them in. Drinks took almost 30 minutes to arrive. She also spilled 1/2 an espresso martini as she approached our table, put the wet glass down, and walked away without saying anything else. All of us finished our drinks when she finally came back to take our orders. Our apps came 30 mins after our order was taken. Throughout eating, she kept coming to our table to ask to take almost full plates of food away as we were eating??? She stacked our appetizer plates and ended up breaking a whole bunch of them right behind my friend's head??? We also saw multiple tables that came in much later than us get their food before we did. The table behind us sat down as we were eating our appetizers, and received their food 10-15 minutes before our table did.. Our food came over an hour after we initially sat down. I ordered the steak and frites cooked medium. The steak was burnt and tough, and the entire plate of food was cold. It took our table over 2.5 hours to share a meal. Between that and the terrible service, our entire party felt it was one of the worst dining experiences we've all ever endured. Oh! Costanoa is a beautiful place. The views and ambience of this campsite cannot be beat. However the restaurant is a little interesting. The food is pretty good, but the service is not the best. When I visited last I ordered tomato soup and a chicken sandwich. I was dining by myself and was one of the only people in the whole place. After my order was taken and my food delivered, I was not attended on once. No one came to refill my water, no one even came to ask me to pay the bill. I had to walk over to the counter and ask if I could get the bill. I don't have any issue with this, but for a sit down restaurant I thought it was kind of strange. Other than the funny service, the food was good. The soup was a little bland but the fried chicken sandwich was one of the best I have had. I really liked how the chicken was super thin and crispy! Overall, the views alone make this place worth a visit, just don't expect quick and prompt service when you go. read more

It's maybe a 3 and half but I'll go 4 because it's in such a beautiful spot. But truly - Costanoa - the campground where it's located - is gorgeous. And the building the restaurant is in is really beautiful too. I got the smoked salmon Benedict which I quite enjoyed. They loaded it up with salmon - definitely did not feel skimped. Eggs were well poached. I've had better hollandaise, but thiers was still really solid. The breakfast "bravas" on the side were good. They have a small, but sufficient (although slightly spendy) kids menu. My daughter got the pancakes which came with yummy berries on top. Good sized. The service was maybe a bit inattentive? Very rarely saw any of the waitstaff. Having said that, it wasn't a particularly slow meal. No one ever asked to refill my coffee though... maybe they don't do refills? read more

We had to deal with dirty dishes while our new main courses were served. Additionally, the presentation of the soup was really disappointing. Nice interior. Although we didn't stay in the campground, we walked around later and it looks like a nice place. Anyway, we came in with a larger group. Food presentation: Nice, the food was pretty. Food taste: Lacking. Service was courteous, but went absent. Details: Burgers: Our group asked for several burgers medium rare. They arrived well done. Fries: Good. Roasted cauliflower and lentil: Just OK. Roasted brussel sprouts with bacon: Good. Steamers: "bucket of fresh clams, garlic, white wine, grilled baguette". Bowl, not a bucket. No garlic. No wine. It was only clams in a bland broth. And, about 20% of the clam shells had no clams. Grilled fish tacos: Small piece of halibut, grilled although overcooked, so the main source of flavor was cooked out of it. And, the tortillas were stale. Stale tortillas. Stale and stiff (these were not crispy shells). I was stunned, actually. When they held the cardboard tortilla in their hands, was the chef thinking, "Our customer is paying $14 per taco. Are these cardboard tortillas the quality they deserve? Meh, whatever." They were able to find fresh tortillas when I asked the server to replace them. For large groups, 20% required tip. This policy was not announced on the menu or anywhere obvious. How many times our waiter or server came to ask how our food was: zero. How many times we plan to return in the future: zero. read more

A group of us had a very disappointing experience at Cascade today that suggests a complete absence of staff training. We placed our order, but only five of seven meals were delivered to our table. We assumed that the remaining two would arrive shortly. They did not. After more than ten minutes we pointed it out to our waiter. In that time he failed to notice that everyone had not been served. When we asked about the other meals, he disappeared and did not report back. We waited again, asked him again and, only after the second, prompting did he check to see what was going on. Again, he neglected to let us know what was up. When the two missing meals finally arrived after about half an hour, everyone else, who had at first waited for those meals to be brought before starting to eat, had finished eating. A trained staff would have noticed all customers had not been served. A trained staff would have acted without waiting for the customer to ask and would have explained what was going on and how it was being resolved. Communication and setting expectations are basic to good customer service. The waiter ultimately explained that the computer system was "funny". Knowing that problem existed, he should have confirmed with the kitchen that the order had gone through. A "funny" computer system might be an explanation for what happened, but it is not an excuse. All of these issues reflect on the restaurant manager, who clearly has not trained the staff. Any waitperson with even basic skills would have checked on our table, seen the missing meals and addressed the issue. The restaurant might use the recent change of ownership as an explanation, but, if the staff is untrained, the restaurant should not be open. The two missing meals were ultimately comped, but only after our prompting. It should have been done automatically. The remainder of the tab included an automatic 20% service charge. We are a group of people who tip generously, but did not appreciate being charged for untrained service. We, of course, paid the service charge, but were paying for poor service. The food was generally ok, but hardly more than that. Some of the fish smelled old. That is inexcusable. The Wagyu hot dog was split before being grilled. The defining characteristic of Wagyu is the high fat content. Splitting it before grilling it rendered the fat and made the hot dog dry. The kitchen staff should understand their ingredients. Certainly for something as pricey as Wagyu, a basic understanding is necessary. This issue, as with the table service, reflects poorly on staff training. Before the change of ownership, this was a favorite spot on the coast. The new owners have a long way to go before earning that reputation. read more

This is our third stay at Costanoa and we've enjoyed each visit. The highlight for this visit was supper this evening at Costanoa's Cascade Restaurant and Bar. Quality of ingredients and preparation is top of the line, the dining room is warm and clean with plenty of character, and the service is excellent. Special shout out to Darby for great service at the bar, including handling a special food order, and mixing an excellent 'old-fashioned'. I'd also like to give a shout out to the manager, Alex, who was clearly doing a great job of keeping everything running smoothly and lending a hand when needed. Really wanted to love this place but the food was disappointing. My scallops were overdone and came with overly sweet puréed corn and strangely thin Fred parsnips. We had to send back the butternut squash ravioli as it was cloyingly sweet. The menu was aiming for a gourmet experience but the chef needs to get back to basics and prepare quality, fresh ingredients in a way that lets them shine. Ditch the overly fussy dishes. We brought friends here for what we hoped would be a nice meal. The waitress was completely checked out, and service was poor. 3 out of 4 dishes came wrong and had to be sent back. When they brought the dishes back corrected, staff couldn't tell what was the impossible burger vs black bean and got it mixed up again. There were no refills of waters or checking in throughout the meal, and the woman had attitude when we told her it wasn't what we ordered. Staff needs some serious training on customer service. If I could give this restaurant a minus star, I would. I have had numerous meals at the Cascade until Father's Day. 2025. You l know there is a problem when breakfast at McDonalds is superior to what was setved at the Cascade. The breakfast menu is limited to breakfast burritos, burrito bowles, sandwiches, waffle fingers and a few more fast food items. You order from a kiosk and your food comes out in take away containers in a shopping bag. There are no servers or service and from the looks of things, no chef. We ordered breakfast burrito bowls which had been prepared early in the morning and kept in a not so warm warmer. Everything was barely warm and dry. The license on the window states that the ownership changed in April of 2025. It's obvious that the new owners have not yet dined in their own restaurant. What once was a fine dining establishments is now less than a hotdog stand. Even if the food and service was a failure, the lovely ambiance still exists. I wish them luck. If they plan to stay open, they will need it. My party and I will not be returning in the future. read more

Only after about 15 minutes did we flag down an employee who said she'd "figure out who our server was." Waited a few more minutes, finally ordered, and waited overlong for our meal to arrive. Food arrived, and the waiter apologized that the "menu is only 4 days old" and the kitchen hasn't figured it out yet. That's doubtful, as my grilled veggie sandwich arrived cold and must have been sitting idle. Overall B-team wait staff, which upon further reflection is typical for the half a dozen or more times we've eaten there. Epilogue: As we have done several times before, before driving back home (we live 30 miles away) we toured the wonderful campsites in the hopes that one day we'll stay there. Until we were chased down and asked to leave by two security guys on a golf cart. When we said we were only looking around and won't be staying, they refused to interact with us and closed-followed our car until we left the area. We heard there was a new chef and menu, and we loved what we found! I'm vegan; my husband is not. The roasted cauliflower with lentils was SO savory and delicious, my husband called it "award-winning" and ordered it the next night. It had quinoa and fresh herbs, and a tangy sauce - YUM! The miso Caesar was tangy and delicious and had crunch. I thought it wouldn't be enough for a meal, so I added a bean burger to it. It was more than enough food! We also enjoyed the carrot dip (like a sweeter version of hummus), and I loved the vegan burrito for bfast. My husband liked his regular burrito. He also had chicken, which he liked, and I saw others order their meat fare, and everyone seemed happy with their meal. Highly recommend! read more
