Not that it would've changed their obviously unfortunate fate, but oh how I wish I had written this…read moresooner. In part because it feels a bit weird to write about a place that has already closed, but mostly because it would've meant that I had finally made my way back here to try more of what their menu had to offer before posting this! The one and only time I made my way here, it came after one of my friend's mentioned Mr. Digby's was their new favorite spot in SF for brunch. After one look at the menu, it was easy to see why - while the range of offerings may not have been as extensive as others out there, their selections were no less interesting! Along with somewhat typical options, like Avocado Toast, Chopped Salad, and Eggs Florentine, they also featured dishes like Fried Chicken & Waffles, a Smoked Salmon Spread, and even Breakfast Nachos(!). As delectable as those last two sounded in particular, as well as several other things, I pretty much knew what I was going to get as soon as I saw the FRIED CHICKEN & WAFFLES. Admittedly, the version of this that I had was different than the most recent one on the menu (served as Braised Thighs with Ginger Butter and Maple Syrup versus Tenders served with Honey Drizzle, Apple Butter, and Maple Syrup), but it was so good! The batter was very crispy and the chicken itself was really moist. Plus, the waffle was AMAZING! Although it looked a bit dark, I love how it had chunks of chicken in it and was well complemented by the ginger butter. Delicious! Ever since that trip here, I long hoped to come back to check out items from their dinner menu as well, like their chicken pot pie and fish & chips, but never got the chance to, unfortunately. Which, in turn, only makes the news of Mr. Digby's closure that much sadder. At least their spirit (indirectly) lives on at their sister spot, Novy, down the street! So, in that vein, I guess that means I should make my way there sooner rather than later!

Cane here specifically because I'd never had Chicken Pot Pie at a restaurant haha. Embarrassingly,…read morethe only reference I have is the frozen Marie Calendar's ones you can get at a grocery store... lol The one from Mr. Digby's is definitely better than the frozen ones (sorry for my lack of reference), but I think there just isn't too much going on with the Chicken Pot Pies themselves. It's pretty simple, chicken and some vegetables in a gravy covered with a puff pastry. It's enjoyable, warming and filling though; I'm glad I finally got to try a proper one! The fries were well seasoned and crispy and the Banana Cream Pie was a very nice portion and wasn't overly sweet. Seems like a great neighborhood spot for a casual meal.

Fremont Street Eats is a lively outdoor community event organized by the city's Chamber of…read moreCommerce. It is located off a newly renovated street where new high rise development were put in to increase dwelling density and foot traffic. It is not quite there yet, but I can see where this is going. It is held in this square near a business park so there is plenty of parking. There is a grassy square where families like to lounge with picnic blankets and lawn chairs. There's usually a dj dishing out tunes, a beer and wine tent, and about 8-10 food trucks lined up in an organized fashion. It goes every Friday in the warm months so from May to October. If a holiday pops up on a Friday like 4th of July they will skip it. Starts at 5pm and goes to about 9pm. Bulk of the crowd goes from 6:30 - 8. I go to about 2-4 per year since 2017, with the exception of 2020 cuz y'all know why. You can see the food truck line up each week on their website or socials. So I like to scan that and if it looks promising then I'll text some friends/family if anyone wants to meet up after work on Friday. If the weather is nice, it is just a just a festive and social way to start a summer's weekend. Now even tho I like these events I don't always like food truck food. Sure it is trendy and you do get to sample and /or get stuff brought to you in one area. But I often just find many of the food to be just average at best at prices that rival sit down dining. So to me I like scoping these out occasionally but I don't think they are worth going to on a frequent basis. I also feel that there aren't enough places to sit and eat once you get your food from a truck. There is a small area where they put out portable picnic benches, but those fill up with just 20 people or so. Otherwise you have to sit on the lawn and come prepared with blanket or lawn chair, or find a concrete planter box to sit on, or go back to your car to eat. Another reason why food trucks events often leave me hanging. But bring a warm typical Bay Area summer's evening where it doesn't get dark til almost 9pm and you want to be amongst your community and commerce, this event will do you more than fine.

There was even some line dancing going on in the makeshift stage area at some point. Sound was not the greatest, the volume quite low even for a small event, but it was fine. There were about 8 food trucks to choose from, along with a few random vendor/service tents (like Bass Pro Shops). Decided on sliders and garlic fries from the Curveball food truck. The food was okay, good enough to satisfy my hunger (see my separate review on that). I snagged one of the few spots in the grass with shade on this hot evening, though they also have tables and seating here, partially shaded too. An actual restroom (not porta potties) on site, in the Fremont downtown event center building. Also, plenty of space available in the parking lot. This is a pretty low-key community event, free to attend and grab a bite to eat, and just hang out for an hour or two.

I pass this truck multiple times a week in the evenings, and on days the truck is there, there never is a long line. There is a table set up under a tent, and seats at the truck's bar available for dining at. We went to order takeout on a Friday evening, and the food was freshly cooked for us. Food ordered: 1. Chicken Super Burrito: 5/5 The chicken was very tender and flavorful (not salty), and was probably one of the best chicken I've had in a burrito/taco. The description said there would be guacamole but it was sliced avocado - honestly I think that tasted better. Everything else in the burrito was spectacular and perfect together and the tortilla itself was grilled and crisp and tearable. This came with a small side of chips and salsa. 2. Chicken Super Tacos: 5/5 Super tacos are indeed super tacos, so your usual tacos with rice and beans. Be very careful with the pickled veggies that come with this - I don't know if it was the batch we got, but we both like spicy but the sliced carrots were pretty extreme spice. 3. Bean Papusas: 5/5 This plate comes with an order of 2 papusas. The papusas were grilled nicely, had a delicious outer corn layer, a good amount of bean and cheese filling, and it didn't feel greasy afterwards. Also probably some of the best papusas I've personally had. It came with a side of slaw which was fine (spicy carrots made a come back here) but we honestly forgot to top the papusas with it and were full by the time we realized the whole bag was still untouched. Overall, food was delicious and I would order from here again. They had a large menu and the food was tasted fresh and not overly salty and greasy which I enjoyed. Unfortunately, what I didn't love is that the pricing is not marked on the truck, so it's sort of awkward. The prices end up similar to other food trucks which isn't cheap, so you can expect that general estimate, but the price transparency would've made the experience even better.
