I stopped in at Compass on a whim and I'm so glad I did. I split a a 2 for $25 deal with a friend and had the Messy Jesse cauliflower crust pizza. It was SO GOOD that I thought the crust was regular crust! We had house made stuffed mushrooms and cheesecake as well. Such nice staff and a cute eating area, all COVID safe. Loved it. No handicap access for upstairs. Reastarant half full, 10 min to take drink order, 10 min for drinks to arrive. 50 min for food to get to the table. I had pizza, it was 'ok'. Friend had steak. It was cold and hd no flavor and VERY bland for $25.00. In all, service was very slow and kept forgetting what was asked for. Food was like fast food. Definitely not worth the cost. We stayed in McAlester on our way to the Fall Festival Car Show in Wilburton. We stopped in a boutique and the owner told us about the great pizza just down the street. As some of the other reviewers have stated, the entrance to Compass is a little misleading, but once you find the red staircase leading to the second level, be prepared to experience the best pizza west of the Mississippi! I've been a pizza lover for 53 years. I've had Jo's Pizza and Rodney's Pizza in Purcell, Sauced in the OKC Paseo District and Baker's Pizza in Maysville, all of whom know how to create an outstanding pie. Well, Compass is better than the best. I chose an individual pie loaded with basil pesto, goat cheese and mozzarella cheese, ham, onion, bell pepper, mushroom, and olives. As I type this, I can envision the perfectly cooked crust laden with leopard spots. This kind of spotting doesn't happen by accident.Somebody in that kitchen knows what they are doing. Before I even took the first bite, I knew that what I was about to experience would be something that would become my new personal standard. I was not disappointed. The only thing disappointing is that now I have to drive at least two hours away from my hometown just to get some of this genius again. With pizza this good, the service could have been horrendous and I wouldn't have cared, but the service and price are just as good as the pie they serve. The wait staff is excellent, friendly and fast. The dining room is clean and the kitchen, which can be seen from the dining room, is just as clean. If you want a great pizza pie, just drive to Compass in McAlester. It is worth a two-hour drive. Even if you live in the far west part of the Oklahoma panhandle, find some kind of excuse to "walk the red stairs." You'll be glad you did. read more

It's best to follow on Facebook so you know what they are up to for the day and don't miss out. I have been here a handful of times and staff is friendly but could be more attentive. Pizza pizza PIZZA! It's a build your own pizza bar with all the fixings! Stop in! It's delicious. Call ahead for lunch because they get slammed. I get a veggie pizza to die for. Fresh mozzarella , sundries tomato, garlic, spinach artichoke and Parmesan. Anything you try will be amazing but this is my FAV! The staff and owner are very sweet and fast. We were so delighted to discover this gem while on a road trip to Dallas. We called our order in, and they were more than happy to have our pizzas ready at our specified time. We had the marinated sirloin and a margherita. The family size is quite large, so order accordingly. Hopefully we will be able to eat here on our return trip. read more

The food is very good and very high quality. The service is absolutely awful. Got our drink orders fast but after that everything was very slow. Only had one refill and it took thirty minutes to get, while I watched one server count money and talk to another family at another table and another which was actually working trying to get the pop machine to work. Food took a long time to get out but once it's there it's really good and prices aren't too bad. read more

OMG!!! The pizza at this restaurant is amazing. Just when we were about to give up finding a great place to go eat at when we're in McAlester, we found a GREAT place to eat. The staff couldn't be more wonderful, fun to talk to, and they help each other whether the task is a small one or a large one. The waitstaff are the kind of people that you will find yourself digging around in your purse trying to find every bit of change that you have so you can tip them -- tip all of them. We "only" ordered pizza, which was half "The Buff" and half "Habañero Hawaiian," and my husband and I were seeing who could eat their part the fastest so we could then plow through our spouse's half because their pizza is truly that good that you'll fight each other in order to see who eats the most and who gets the last bite. Their pizza dough is made in-house, and if you aren't in love with their toppings, which they generously load every pizza down with, you're gonna LOVE their crust. This is the best restaurant in town, no contest. The food is not only edible (which is a feat in itself in McAlester) but delicious. I have tried several pizzas and have yet to be disappointed.
