A small diner by the hotels. It was pretty busy when we came for dinner and only 1 waitress. Food was good. I got the shrimp dinner and it was butterflied shrimp that was battered and not the frozen ones. Fries didn't look too appetizing, but they were good. We stopped in on a cold, dreary afternoon and found this to be a cozy, friendly little place for lunch. It seemed to be full of locals and I couldn't help but smile as I heard the waitress chatting with them. We tried both vegetable and potato soup, iced tea, chicken breast sandwich and cherry cobbler with ice cream. The standout was the perfectly-cooked chicken breast on the toasty bun. The soups were about average in flavor but were hot and hit the spot. The tea tasted a little funky. The cobbler was a good finish. This certainly wasn't a gourmet place by any means, but we just felt so welcome and there are plenty of tasty sounding things on the menu (including all-day breakfast) so we would try it again. read more

Visited this restaurant during Covid Marilyn's is right next to a best western off the highway. It was busy but it was the service was good the food was hot and fresh and you could tell that it was made to order. If you get the cobbler with ice cream you might want to consider getting the ice cream on the side. Unfortunately it's a soft serve style ice cream and so it will melt really fast. The ribeye steak was nice and tender and tasted like they've seasoned it with garlic powder which I thoroughly enjoyed. The big potato came with sour cream and butter was already on the table. If you want cheese you're gonna have to ask for that. Soda came in a can which I was fine with. Everything was very good and I would definitely come back again read more

So...I found this place on yelp and I liked what I saw. I was in the mood for some home cooking and this place fit the bill. The first thing I noticed was an abundance of truckers parked out front which I figured is a good sign cause them boys like to eat. Now my taste buds were singing "East bound and down, loaded up and truckin', We're gonna do what they say can't be done"so I decided to put the pedal to the metal and go all in with a chicken fried steak. That's right. It's a good thing it was covered in gravy cause it was kinda burnt. Not to mention a little on the smallish side. Maybe I should have put on peterbilt hat or something cause I feel a little skimped. It's too late now though. It did come with 2 sides and a salad so I got full but...the mashed potatoes shouldn't be the star of the show. Know what I'm saying. Marilyn's is the definition of a greasy spoon. I walked into a panicked scene of one waitress handling every table in the joint. She did it was the grace of a swan and the ferocity of a T-Rex. It was amazing. I seated myself. I patiently waited and watched as each seat was emptied and almost immediately filled until the waitress finally came over. She arrived in a vortex that engulfed just the two of us. She had 101 things to do but in that moment I was her only concern. Her totally focus was on me. I ordered big. Annoyingly big. Hash-browns, omelette, toast, drinks, and another meal; a ribeye sandwich. Don't judge me. I was hungry. She took it all in stride and with a smile. The food took an appropriate amount of time to get to me. When it did it was the perfect fare. The ribeye sandwich was just greasy enough to make me question my life choices that had brought me to this point, but not so much that I didn't devour it. The omelette steamed a delicious smelling cloud in my face. I destroyed everything on that plate. It was great. Look. I don't know you and you don't know me, but, stranger, if you're ever in Mcalester, OK you need to eat at Marilyn's. It's 100% worth it. But I have been there a couple of times for breakfast and they do a really good job! this place is clean, good service and they are friendly. it is a good place to stop for breakfast when you are on your way someplace and coffee is good and they keep you cup full! if you are heading south on highway 69 after you get passed the last stop light ,on the west side of the highway on the service road they have a little room for truck parking, it will be a little hard getting back out on the high way, but will worth the truoble... read more

This restaurant was good; wasn't fabulous. It's really just a typical greasy spoon cafe in a oldish house type building. My husband and I both got hamburgers. The hamburgers were cooked well-done; they did ask how we wanted them cooked, but that tells me that they weren't using super high quality beef. Since the burgers were cooked well-done, they were a bit dry. Burgers are always served with regular potato chips, so we're got a side of French fries, which were home made, but no seasoning. Not a terrible experience, just nothing to write home about. read more

They were all locals eating here so we knew it had to be good. Limited menu but food came out quick and it was fresh and hardy. My ham and cheese omelette had large pieces of fresh ham. Dropped by twice while staying next door at two hotel. Good atmosphere and service. The food was much better than anticipated, though nothing spectacular. This is NOT a recommended place to eat for travelers passing through. Small, very very dirty, and i regretfully saw them cooking food... Man, we usually love yelp referrals and finding random places to eat, this was an absolute fail. Omelet was yuck, ham and cheese was soggy, okra was ick. Water tasted absolutely terrible. Nice little place on the west side of McAllister just south of town next to the Best Western hotel. We stopped there for lunch and I got a large burger that had Swiss and mushroom and my wife ordered the club sandwich. Very clean, Service was quick and efficient, and the food was predictable... In a good way. We come this way often from Dallas-Fort Worth area to our Lakehouse in Arkansas. Will be making future stops here as we much prefer the home service versus fast food! read more

Good choice for a late lunch as we travelled through McAlester. Small and quaint with only a couple of tables occupied when we arrived. Hubster ordered chicken fried steak, hominy and mashed taters and a bowl of vegetable soup. Soup had a good stock base so you didn't really notice the veggies were probably canned. He enjoyed every bite of his meal. I had a pretty good cheeseburger with fries for about $7. Almost finished when the small place began filling up with locals as well as a group of sports enthusiasts. Gave our table up to a local and went on our way. We will stop again. read more
