We happen to see this railroad car as we drove by and just on a whim decided to try it. I will admit, we did look at the reviews before we went in, but all the reviews were so good. We had to try it! We both had the steaks, my wife having the ribeye and I had the New York strip. We both had the fully loaded sweet potato. I had the salad bar and she had the corn. Everything was incredibly tasty. The owner was very friendly unhelpful and it was fun to read up on the history of the railroad car. If we are ever back in the area, it is definitely on our list of places to visit again. read more

Dinner last Friday evening at the Southern Belle in Heavner, OK. The restrauant, or at least the dining room is in an old, 1905 refurbished passenger car with a rich history. It provides an unique environment with a folksy vibe. The railroad car does not look as clean and crisp as their web page photo and it's been painted what appears to be a dark burgundy. It was dark and raining so it's hard to say on the color. Inside is cozy and comfortable. It's a neat venue. The menu consists of typical American comfort food, at least for the south. Three of us us ordered chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, cream gravey and fried okra. The outlier ordered fried chicken livers with French fries and fried okra. All four of us were pleased with our meals. The chicken fry was good as were the potatoes and cream gravey. The fried okra was excellent. The chicken livers were excellent and begged for mashed potatoes and cream gravey. The French fries Ken ordered weren't very good. I think they were under cooked. We had a nice, enjoyable dinner. I grew up in this area, and everytime I go home, I want to eat here. The fried chicken strips are amazing and the salad bar is great. The homemade desserts are always crowd pleasing. Cool experience/atmosphere, my family enjoyed dining here. The environment was very cool. The salad bar was solid, and the famous fried chicken was good (not great). We had a Butterfinger cheesecake that was absolutely delicious for dessert. Service was available and friendly. The Southern Bell is a passenger train car originally from the 1800s; the pastor car was turned into a restaurant in 1997. The atmosphere is quaint. All the woodwork is the original woodwork which is absolutely beautiful. The experience was very delightful and full of history Our waitress Leslie was amazing and all I can say about the food is we were ready to start making a review at the appetizers. My husband had the chicken fried steak and he's a very picky man about his chicken fried steak and all he could say is it's delicious. This is our "Go To" restaurant when in Heavener. The fried chicken is fantastic. It comes with their special sauce. The mashed potatoes and cream gravy are a great side. The rolls are a stand out as well. We always get the salad bar because it is fresh and has a wonderful homemade cucumber and onion salad in addition to many other ingredients. I've also had their delicious Indian taco which comes on homemade fry bread. They always have wonderful desserts as well. We have probably been at least a half a dozen times and the service has always been top-notch. The nostalgic train car is just a fun place to dine. Their menu tells the history of the train car. It's in an authentic train car which is what got our attention, but we were worried it might just be a gimmick without the food quality to back it up. Couldn't be further from the truth! Have a meal in an old train ? Yelp, and a pretty good one. Found this place for on our way home after Talamina Drive. Of course a long narrow train car but plenty of room inside for booths and tables. Lots to look at and read on the walls. Waitress even brought us a couple of books to look at about the history. Super nice waitress waited on us and told us what they are known for. I ordered the chicken strips with special dipping sauce. This came with roll and 2 sides. Ordered green beans , very good. Then the drum roll..... A baked sweet potato with brown sugar with lots of melted browned marshmallows on top!! A first time for me other the our normal Thanksgiving Mashed sweet potatoes we always have. This was like a normal baked potato with melted brown sugar poured over the top. This was good size, in its own dish and absolutely delish! I can't wait to try to duplicate it myself at home. Husband had the fish and chicken strips combo with hush puppies. We stopped in this lovely former train on our way home from our trip to the cabin for the weekend. They served up a perfect road trip southern comfort delight. I had Deb's special that had catfish, chicken strip, a couple of hushpuppies and a couple of sides. I enjoyed the breading on both the fish and chicken. Some of the other stuff enjoyed with my group included their grilled cheese, cheeseburger, fried mushrooms, and fried okra. All of the above were delicious as was their French fries.
