Waffles americano

Looking for local coffee while touring Case Western Reserve and found this gem in the middle of campus. Reasonably priced and a quaint little spot, it's been around for more than fifty years. The owner is working the register and prepping drinks and the service is excellent. Got the americano, which was great. Opted for waffles while the wife and daughter got croissants. Study rooms upstairs increase the appeal for the student population.

This place is exactly what is sounds like!!! An entire house that's a coffee shop. Located on Case Westerns Campus, this is a spacious home with plenty of seating, different rooms to find your own space in, and even an upstairs which I didn't check out. The menu is quite delightful with all the classics, syrups, teas, pastry's, and cafe foods. I got a latte with oat milk that was super yummy! This is such a refreshing place. It's not modern by any means. It has absolutely no frills attached to it, and that's what I think I love the most about it. If you're in university circle, near the museum, on campus, or just would like to go somewhere with so much charm. Go here!

First time visitor and I was so impressed !!! What a wide selection of delicious Caruso coffee, teas, and other drinks! Also, lots of pastries, some salads and sandwiches! This place was so cool because it had different rooms including a quiet study room, an indoor patio, and an outside patio! The guy who helped us was also SO nice! It only lost a star because it had a very strong old house smell. ALSO, for those who are wondering: they have PAPER CUPS! :)

Spent a day working from here during COVID when they were doing construction to my condo building. Very close to the Cleveland Art Museum, Natural History Museum, Botanical gardens and of course the Case Campus. Used to come here during undergrad / grad school at Case and it was always a great spot to get work done. Had an americano with milk and they always have decent pastries and rooms with whiteboards for studying / work.

The coffee house is my go-to study spot on campus - it's ideal for camping out with a drink and a snack in between classes. The have a wide variety of bakery items, breakfast/lunch, and drinks, and I can honestly say I never get tired of coming here even everyday in a week. I'm especially partial to their croissants, which they usually have plain, almond, and pain au chocolat. There's so much seating on the first and second floors with some private study rooms for a larger group. I love the greenhouse vibe on the first floor which gets so cozy in the winter and perfect for people watching out on the street. When it's warm out the patio is great, especially with some morning sun. Ambience switches between louder coffeehouse vibes during mealtimes and quieter study space in between Pro-tip if you're a case affiliate, you can usually stay on the case wifi too, though no complaints with what coffee house has :)

Stopped by for a pre-study breakfast and was not disappointed. Very cute, lot of students and a group of people seeming to have some sort of book club, meetup, etc. Vibes are great. I could see myself studying here for hours with the endless coffee, yummy sweets, and windows with great lighting. We got the iced coffee, waffles, biscuits and gravy, fruit tart, and cinnamon roll. Fruit tart and cinnamon rolls were yummy but average. However, biscuits and gravy were SO DELICIOUS. Waffles were also good, particularly because of their jam, and I'm not usually a fan of jam. Iced coffee was the only ~meh~ part, so I'll definitely be trying a different drink when I'm back. Overall, great food and great vibes.

Charming ambiance, good service. I would recommend that more gluten free items be added to the menu.

I had to visit the actual store to try other items because it's hard to find quality bread. But.... I read a lot of negative reviews about this place that seemed to have a common theme... poor service. Considering I already experienced their product, I knew these people were SERIOUS about their CRAFT, and people like them want RESPECT for what they consider an art form. These men at craftsmen, not baristas! So I went in with a clear expectation. If you're looking for a typical "cafe" (Starbucks) experience... don't go. You will leave with your feelings hurt. There won't be smiley faces on your coffee cup and service with a smile while selling you inferior products. Go with the understanding you're there to pay respect to the art. The art is the experience. You'll likely need to leave the country to find better... barely and maybe. I had a ham sandwich that tasted like it needs its own chapter in the Bible. Bottom line... go... don't just order coffee... be excited about their art... and like magic... they'll give that energy back. If they don't... it's ok... just enjoy your food and understand this place is a living passion for them, and the intent is to make you smile with great food.

It's criminal that this is anything less than 4.5 stars. I've heard people had issues with the "service." I have had no such problem, but even if I did, come off it - just accept that culinary geniuses can be unstable. Once you realize that you'll enjoy lunch (and life) a lot more.

Tucked in Coventry neighborhood, there's Phoenix Coffee. The first thing you notice walking in is the vibe -- warm exposed brick walls, quirky and ever-changing local art (currently fairytale motif), and the smell of seriously strong, seriously good coffee. The Siren Eclipse art on the wall is alone worth the visit. And the scones? Unreal. Flaky, buttery, and somehow always fresh out of the oven. Really probably the best around. There's also other breakfast snacks like muffins and such. Very limited options but very tasty. Bonus points for the greenery -- the place doubles as a mini plant shop. There's a few leafy ones you can pick up. I got large drip coffee while I was there and it perfectly strong. There's two size options, light or dark roast. The menu also features some seasonal favorites. I had recently spring matcha there that was so vibrantly green. There's also a pretty extensive tea assortment. For warmer months, consider seating outside. They have very fun and aesthetically pleasing wooden benches. Street parking is available in the area but it gets busy. Try parking garage on the street to park. It's free to use.

I ordered the bandit (latte with lapsang syrup) and a mango/guava muffin--the muffin was good, but although made well, I really didn't enjoy the bandit (the lapsang syrup was a lot smokier than I anticipated). Although I'd order something different next time, I'll happily return!

There were so many items on the menu that looked amazing - it was hard to choose just one! I ended up going for that hummus sandwich (more of a wrap, really) and subbed tomatoes for black and green olives and got the cafe algebra to drink. My friend chose the white pizza and the hibiscus tea. Food came out pretty quickly and everything was good! The hummus was creamy and delicious and the harissa was great too...the olives were excellent as well! My friend enjoyed her pizza and the hibiscus tea was so flavorful. I wasn't a fan of the cafe algebra, but that was just personal preference. I will be back to try more of the menu for sure! Thank you, Algebra Tea House!

I had never had Yemeni coffee before so I asked the barista for suggestions. Based on the fact that I wanted to also try one of their beautiful milk cakes (like a tres leches), I opted for the Mufawar coffee since he said it was less sweet and a bestseller. It was served on an adorable bamboo tray, piping hot and very strong! It had a unique flavor and paired well with my saffron milk cake. Yes...I said saffron. I was very hesitant to try this after he described saffron to me, so I actually got both saffron and biscoff milk cakes. Wow, this man knew his stuff! The saffron milk cake was absolutely scrumptious!!! And who doesn't love a biscoff cookie?! I had to take that one to go. I hope to return to Cleveland soon so I can try the pistachio latte (a sweeter coffee) and possibly a different flavor of milk cake. The coffee shop was quite large, bright, and tastefully decorated with lots of gold accents. I loved my experience there!
