Tucked in Coventry neighborhood, there's Phoenix Coffee. The first thing you notice walking in is the vibe -- warm exposed brick walls, quirky and ever-changing local art (currently fairytale motif), and the smell of seriously strong, seriously good coffee. The Siren Eclipse art on the wall is alone worth the visit. And the scones? Unreal. Flaky, buttery, and somehow always fresh out of the oven. Really probably the best around. There's also other breakfast snacks like muffins and such. Very limited options but very tasty. Bonus points for the greenery -- the place doubles as a mini plant shop. There's a few leafy ones you can pick up. I got large drip coffee while I was there and it perfectly strong. There's two size options, light or dark roast. The menu also features some seasonal favorites. I had recently spring matcha there that was so vibrantly green. There's also a pretty extensive tea assortment. For warmer months, consider seating outside. They have very fun and aesthetically pleasing wooden benches. Street parking is available in the area but it gets busy. Came here to work while my car was in the shop, and really enjoyed my time here. The coffee shop is quiet with a good amount of seating, and the baristas were very friendly. I ordered the bandit (latte with lapsang syrup) and a mango/guava muffin--the muffin was good, but although made well, I really didn't enjoy the bandit (the lapsang syrup was a lot smokier than I anticipated). Overshare of the century but my travel plans were cancelled last minute and I was desperate to find a place where I can waste a few hours. What better place to do that than a coffee shop? None of my local Starbucks are any good so I went to one of the few Phoenix coffee locations for the first time. Phoenix coffee is a Cleveland-based local chain with a nice one situated in nearby Coventry Village. I walked in and instantly felt more serene as there are lots of plants and local art for sale. I dumbly asked what their lowest calorie iced coffee would be. They tried their best not to judge me, (hey, I'm judging me!), but they helped me settle on just a plain cold brew. Their cold brew was definitely a lot stronger taste than a Starbucks cold brew. It was okay. I love the vibe, especially as a place to just hang out for a few hours, judgement-free. But I wish they offered unsweetened almond milk. There is only oat and soy. The drink menu is very small without any seasonal offerings out yet. Also, the benches/chairs are NOT comfy - bring your own cushion! Overall, this is a pretty good local coffee chain. One day I hope to try their baked goods! They looked yummy! read more

I came here after reading the Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed.. I had a cortado that was exquisitely crafted by a team that clearly takes pride in what they do. Ivan welcomed me when I came to the counter, spoke about the menu with knowledge, spoke about their great tea offerings as I was trying to recall a lavender tea drink I saw in a review. Warm friendly and positive attitude from the team. I did not catch the other team member's name. The music was pleasant and loud enough to her, but not so loud you couldn't concentrate. They have a great selection of gluten free treats as well.and you can not only get the locally roasted coffee they serve but take home a plant from their selection. Perfect coffee place to get some work done. Huge windows that let light in. Room is full of small tables and outlets every few feet along the wall. The temperate is not too cold, not too hot. Music not too loud. typical hipster vibes. I've tried the coffee, and lavender lemonade. Both good and reasonably priced. Also got the oatmeal raisin cookie- huge and super delicious. Phoenix Coffee is one of the coffee shops that you can find near the University Circle. I'm sure that at some point, almost any person living at Cleveland has been to Coventry. I got the peppermint mocha since it was a seasonal drink, and was left disappointed. I even checked Google to make sure that peppermint mochas are supposed to have coffee. Because I certainly couldn't taste coffee. All I tasted was chocolate syrup. Part of the reason customers come to coffee shops is because we enjoy the ambiance that comes in coffee shops. Phoenix Coffee seemed to be lacking in ambiance that day I came. The music is too loud. But at least the baristas were incredibly friendly. Hell, they even recognized a regular and went out of their way to take away his finished cup of coffee. Parking sucks at Coventry. Phoenix Coffee is no exception. Phoenix is one of those places where you go sit and read and just expect to have a meet-cute. This place is in such a cozy spot that gets great sunlight through its huge bay windows and has that perfect trendy coffee shop vibe. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but their chai latte is spot on, and they have a decent tea selection an other less-caffeinated options. They also have a great bakery selection, which I always go for a scone (sweet or savory depending on my mood, favorite is easily sour cream and onion). What really gets me every time is the plant stand - I can't come here without buying another one since they always have such great picks! I really enjoy the seasonal tea lattes that they have, such as the lavender lattes, and their pastries are solid, though nothing too special. While it's occasionally a good spot to study, I find that sometimes the music is too loud, and it can get pretty crowded in the afternoons. I would classify this as a hipster study & splurge spot. I am one antsy person, so I appreciated the variety of seating options ranging from small tables and chairs to a long bar with stools where you can sit or stand. So far this is the only coffee shop I've found that sells Cleveland Bagel Co. bagels AND....HOMEMADE. ~vegan ~CREAM. CHEESE. I will say the portion they give you is super tiny, though. So if you're a shmear fiend, prepare for minor disappointment with that high price tag. The coffee is good, too. Much tastier than the starshmucks I'm currently sitting in. This is definitely a place that you would go for the experience! First of all the staff is super friendly and helpful. The cafe requires masks which makes me feel safe and they also offer free masks. I somehow managed to spill coffee onto my mask LOL so having that free mask offer was definitely helpful. They also have these little signs on the table that says "this has been cleaned and sanitized". when you leave you would flip it over so it's red and says "needs to be cleaned". Definitely a nice touch that makes the place even more COVID-safe, which i really appreciate. Coffee wise, my go-to order at cafes are always iced latte. When i asked for one at the counter, i was told it's typically done with cold brew but offered to do it with espresso if i want. The coffee wasn't bad but not the best. This is the only reason i'm giving it a 4 star not 5. A bit more picky is that, it seems like the overall vibe of the cafe is more hipster, green, environmentally friendly, but i was a bit shocked at these plastic straws. It just seems a bit out of place given the vibe in other parts of the cafe, but not a deal breaker for me. My favorite part about this cafe however, is definitely the environment. The decor is super cute with lots of natural lights and plants. There're large tables with outlets underneath, good wifi and clean bathrooms. I'd imagine that during non-COVID times this would be a great place to study and get some work done. However with COVID there is kinda a "time limit", where you should only stay there for at most 2 hours. I doubt they kick you out but i left after 2 hours just out of courtesy. This is a sweet little study spot located in the lively Coventry Village area! I stopped in after perusing a local antique store with my boyfriend one night. I got a giant, warm cup of chai tea which was phenomenal and he had a coffee. I have yet to study here, but my roommate does all the time. Comfortable seating and a pleasant, upbeat environment. My only concern was I could not find any outlets near the tables my boyfriend and I were sitting at, so I may have to get creative about finding somewhere near an outlet when I return to study. But, I would highly recommend it and cannot wait to go back sometime soon :) read more

I'm really a big fan of Phoenix Coffee. It's a great spot to get some work done but also to meet and catch up with friends. My favorite drink used to be the speedball, but since they changed their menu my favorite is now the mocha with oat milk. I also appreciate that they have baked goods from local establishments, and the prices are comparable to other coffee shops. The parking can be tricky, depending on when you go, but it's definitely worth it for the drinks and ambiance. They have reliable wifi, which is important for getting work done, and they even have outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. The background music isn't too loud, and there are lots of seating options. Overall, I only have good things to say about Phoenix! read more

This is my new favorite coffee shop and the best mocha soy latte that I've ever had! I'm new to the area and stumbled upon this coffee shop while searching on yelp. The shop itself is a great place to get things done and there are plenty of outlets in case you need to charge your laptop/phone/ipad. Very chill vibes in this shop - music not too loud, big windows allowing for good natural lighting, everyone working on things on their computer or studying. The baristas are all very friendly. The MOCHA SOY LATTE - oh man, I love this drink. Usually when I get a mocha latte the mocha can be a little overpowering. The mocha soy latte here has a creamy chocolate-y taste with a nice amount of froth at the top which is exactly how I like it. As a graduate student, good study spots are highly coveted and this is one of those amazing coffee shops to sit down with a coffee, pastry and grind. They have good quality WiFi, coffee, and pastries, and lots of seating for its small size. I like dark roast coffee, and this hits the spot. They also offer teas and typically coffee shop bevs. They are stocked with Cleveland Bagels (which can be hard to find on the east side) as well as other breakfast goods. Atmosphere: Its your typical coffee shop vibe - a little hipster, casual, a little bit of soft seating with mainly tables and chairs, and edison bulbs, of course. For how small the shop is, there are plenty of seats to hang out for a while. Its also a popular spot to work on a laptop. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Ambience is nice to do studying. However, very limited menu and they apparently do not believe in any forms of sweetener or flavors (IE caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, etc). Everything comes plain. This place is honestly one of my favorite places to escape to. It has the perfect amount of light for studying, cool performances by local artists and poets, and the right serving of caffeine to keep me alive. It must also be the favorite of a number of people in Cleveland, because it is nearly always crowded.
