Hot Honey Scone and Vanilla Latte
    Rebeka J.

Stopped here to spend some quiet time. I had a vanilla latte and a hot honey scone. Both were delicious! The hot honey scone especially was a surprising delight! The staff were wonderful and kind and the atmosphere was nice and quiet.

Overshare of the century but my travel plans were cancelled last minute and I was desperate to find a place where I can waste a few hours. What better place to do that than a coffee shop? None of my local Starbucks are any good so I went to one of the few Phoenix coffee locations for the first time. Phoenix coffee is a Cleveland-based local chain with a nice one situated in nearby Coventry Village. I walked in and instantly felt more serene as there are lots of plants and local art for sale. I dumbly asked what their lowest calorie iced coffee would be. They tried their best not to judge me, (hey, I'm judging me!), but they helped me settle on just a plain cold brew. Their cold brew was definitely a lot stronger taste than a Starbucks cold brew. It was okay. I love the vibe, especially as a place to just hang out for a few hours, judgement-free. But I wish they offered unsweetened almond milk. There is only oat and soy. The drink menu is very small without any seasonal offerings out yet. Also, the benches/chairs are NOT comfy - bring your own cushion! Overall, this is a pretty good local coffee chain. One day I hope to try their baked goods! They looked yummy!

I love this little local coffee shop. The vibe is amazing and the staff is so sweet. Cute spot to study or read. A hot lavender chocolate latte is my favorite

I came here after reading the Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed.. I had a cortado that was exquisitely crafted by a team that clearly takes pride in what they do. Ivan welcomed me when I came to the counter, spoke about the menu with knowledge, spoke about their great tea offerings as I was trying to recall a lavender tea drink I saw in a review. Warm friendly and positive attitude from the team. I did not catch the other team member's name. The music was pleasant and loud enough to her, but not so loud you couldn't concentrate. They have a great selection of gluten free treats as well.and you can not only get the locally roasted coffee they serve but take home a plant from their selection. Phoenix coffee s located in the Cleveland heights area with many charming shops and offerings in the same couple of blocks. It is across the street from the Tru Value heights hardware. This is a Cleveland locally owned shop you do not want to miss.

Phoenix is one of my favorite spots to enjoy a great latte while catching up with friends or while getting in some much needed studying :) Their coffee and small snacks are consistent and yummy. And of course the fact that they do NOT charge extra for oat milk?? Come on, that alone has me coming back to Phoenix (a PSA for non-milk drinkers who hate being punished with an extra charge at other coffee shops for being lactose-intolerant) I've studied here consistently and it's definitely on the medium to high noise level depending on the day, but I personally like having the white noise and always bring my headphones in case I need a bit more silence.

Super cute coffee shop located in Coventry! I especially love the greenery and overall vibes of this spot. We tried a vanilla latte, soy mocha, and vegan cookie! Good spot for dairy free, vegan, and gluten free drinks and bakery options!

I often start my mornings walking over to Phoenix Coffee to grab a Chai with oat milk. I've studied here a few times as well. Everyone is really friendly. Quick service & drinks are consistent. Nice selection of baked goods. Their everything bagel is one of the best bagels I have had in Cleveland. The thyme & Gruyère scone is also delicious. They also sell other items. They feature a rotating selection of artists in their store, so you can purchase interesting wall art and prints. They carry a variety of plants from Sixth City Cycles.

Stopped in here one weekday morning for a cold brew while on a recent work trip. Drink was strong and tasty! Got the neurons firing! Parking is a bit of a challenge here - so beware! #PhoenixCoffee

Perfect coffee place to get some work done. Huge windows that let light in. Room is full of small tables and outlets every few feet along the wall. The temperate is not too cold, not too hot. Music not too loud. typical hipster vibes. I've tried the coffee, and lavender lemonade. Both good and reasonably priced. Also got the oatmeal raisin cookie- huge and super delicious. They also have a bunch of other pastries (muffins, croissants, etc.) that i'm excited to try in the future.

    Peppermint mocha!

Phoenix Coffee is one of the coffee shops that you can find near the University Circle. I'm sure that at some point, almost any person living at Cleveland has been to Coventry. I got the peppermint mocha since it was a seasonal drink, and was left disappointed. I even checked Google to make sure that peppermint mochas are supposed to have coffee. Because I certainly couldn't taste coffee. All I tasted was chocolate syrup. Part of the reason customers come to coffee shops is because we enjoy the ambiance that comes in coffee shops. Phoenix Coffee seemed to be lacking in ambiance that day I came. The music is too loud. But at least the baristas were incredibly friendly. Hell, they even recognized a regular and went out of their way to take away his finished cup of coffee. Parking sucks at Coventry. Phoenix Coffee is no exception. Be prepared to bring your quarters so that you can park next to parking meters.

Phoenix is one of those places where you go sit and read and just expect to have a meet-cute. This place is in such a cozy spot that gets great sunlight through its huge bay windows and has that perfect trendy coffee shop vibe. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but their chai latte is spot on, and they have a decent tea selection an other less-caffeinated options. They also have a great bakery selection, which I always go for a scone (sweet or savory depending on my mood, favorite is easily sour cream and onion). What really gets me every time is the plant stand - I can't come here without buying another one since they always have such great picks! When it's nice out, they have a few cute picnic bench set ups on the side of the building too!

    Gluten free and vegan goodies
    Amy F.

I enjoy the gluten free bakery items on my visits. I always get one or two to go. I'm not a huge sweets person so I get a hot beverage to sip while snacking on the baked goods. They usually have a vegan gluten free baked good or two (for those that have additional allergies or plant based dietary preferences).

(It could have been earlier but my 5 star review of this place 16 years ago is an objective starting point). Although I have spent much of the past 23 years living in various places outside of both Cleveland and Ohio, I'm a born and raised East Side Clevelander. And whenever I resettle in the area, I always find myself gravitating back to Algebra Tea House for the good vibes. In the past several months that I have been visiting, I'm happy to see the place really feels like a cultural community hub and an outright neighborhood institution. Over the years, many unique small businesses that have shuttered operations in Coventry (China Treasure House, Big Fun, Record Revolution, La Cave du Vin), Cedar-Fairmount (Nighttown). I'm so happy to see that Algebra Tea House is thriving and continuing to create a unique and inviting environment for the neighborhood. I love the unpretentious and lo-fi atmosphere and operation. I love the DIY craftsmanship that permeates in every aspect of the business. The food and beverage options are also quite good. Although I haven't been around for many years, I think maybe there are more offerings on the menu these days. I especially love the vegetable stews on their chalkboard menu and the foul madamas (fava beans). Service is lo-fi and very casual. Just place your order at the counter. It is written on a scratch pad. Sit down and be patient. The food or beverage will then be delivered to your table. Pay on your way out. Bring cash if you want to avoid a credit card transaction fee.

It's called the Coffee House at University Circle, but I've also heard it called University Coffee House. The streets here are gridded and, north of Case Western Reserve University's smaller quad, other academic units and buildings might be found on these blocks. Incidentally, I can explain Case Western succinctly. Just like Duke, Vanderbilt, and Emory might be "Southern Ivies," private and prestigious Case Western and Carnegie Mellon in not too distant Pittsburgh seem like "two peas in a pod" and are STEM powerhouses. The kids in here seem serious and do not come across like partying types. The Coffee House occupies a loosely Tudor-styled older building that might have been something else at one time. It has two levels, with bigger rooms downstairs and smaller ones upstairs. The coffee and tea are fairly priced and there are also sweet and savory items. On the day I visited, I had walked over from the main UH Medical Center, bypassing the Starbucks that is much closer to it. I'm glad I did. I also stumbled onto the day of the week when their big cookies are $1. They feature daily specials. I didn't go looking for cookies, nor for deals on them. I was still expecting to get something to accompany my hot drink - Earl Grey tea. The service was fine. They might make recommendations if you ask and they are patient. There will be CWRU students in here with their laptops open. There will also be faculty members. There will also be people involved in or receiving health care at the medical complexes in University Circle, doing something stimulating the intellect at the renowned and free of charge Cleveland Museum of Art or at Severance Hall for musical performances, partaking in a Meetup, and then some. But I'd say that at least half of those present are connected to academia. It's an imposing large coffeehouse. There's an outdoor terrace out front for when the weather is cooperating. Note that the window of hours is sort of tight and doesn't go too far into the evening. Either way, the Coffee House at University Circle makes for a neat environment for doing the coffeehouse thing, with or without a laptop open.
