This is a really fun, hip coffee shop. I was originally drawn here because I noticed they served coffee and alcohol, but it's really the coffee that makes it good. It's attached to the library so you can walk directly into the library with your coffee and leave your belongings in the library and refresh your coffee at your leisure. This a great place to go to get away from the other trendy coffee places in town. Very easy to locate and walk too. My drink order is always ice coffee but I much rather to get the simplest drink here than any other franchise. There are plenty of places to sit with a lot of room to get work done. Definitely prefer the atmosphere and staff when ordering my coffee. read more

Nice atmosphere. I know it is a coffee place, but love chai and was also pregnant when we went here and really wanted something sweet. This was easily the worst chai latte I've ever had. Easily. It was like no one ever taught them how to make one and it tasted like steamed milk with chai spices on top. Awful. Their selection of sweets was also pretty lacking, although the cookie I had was okay. My husband liked his coffee, so I guess they do that well, but I wouldn't return. read more

We stopped here on our way out of town to get some coffee and we ended up wishing we had more time to stay! This place was so cute in downtown and decorated great with lots of space and natural light. The staff was super sweet and we loved our beverages. I had the hot chocolate which was great and also one of their sour cream muffins which was wonderful. Would go back when I am in the area. Excellent coffee. read more

for the price of their drinks and the taste of their treats, this was not at all a good coffee shop. The woman was pretentious and rude behind the counter and gave me terrible service. She then treated some people, who weren't among Springfield's finest like they were annoying. The two women left a drink in the coffee shop, and the woman did not care enough to get it to them, and gave it to a guy standing next to the shop. I personally had to deliver the bottled drink even though these two woman contributed money to this business, this cashier was too good to associate with them. read more

So I really like coffee. Good coffee. It is hard to find. It is also hard to find good coffee that is made by nice people. I'm tired of coffee snobs. I don't find that here at The Coffee Ethic. Really nice people who are passionate about their work and coffee that is simply great. I recommend their Sumatra (black of course). I'm stuck on that one and will soon move over to a new one. Exposed brick, reclaimed wood floors, and excellent shots of PT's coffee. All the baked goods are made in-house; the chocolate chunk cookie is heavy on the chocolate, always a plus. The building materials are largely salvaged / re-purposed; be sure to check out the explanatory placards if this sort of thing interests you. Lots of seating and a roomy quiet atmosphere. read more

I recently visited the Coffee Ethic for the first time and was happily surprised. I am usually against trying new things, and just stick with Starbucks, but I loved the coffee and the people at the Coffee Ethic. I don't drink coffee, but they have other drinks there including beer! My wife enjoys a coffee and I can have a beer, so that's nice. It is attached to Springfield's downtown library, but (of course) you can't take your drink in the library. Seating is pretty minimal, but comfortable. read more

Best coffee in 417land. They brew great coffee and espresso. Sometimes it can get crowded but it rarely seems noisy. I love bringing a book or often i will check one a book at the library which is connected to it. Staff is friendly and helpful. Always good music selection too. read more

Overall the place is adorable. Love the way they preserved the old feel, not to mention the gorgeous, big door. Can't say I loved the coffee though. Had a latte and the coffee had a "Folger's-like" taste to it. First time trying PT coffee (never heard of it before) and really did not care for it. I didn't even drink the whole cup. read more

Good atmosphere, and very friendly staff... But coffee was very bitter (even for someone who likes strong cofffee) and the Chai I ordered was bland. We didn't have anything else so I can't say all of their things are bad. And maybe it was just a bad coffee batch. But I don't know if I'll come back here :/ on the positive side, everything was very clean and it felt calm inside. Seemed like a good place if you need to study or want to calm down and read or something. The only sweetener they have is splenda. read more

Lots of natural lighting from their big windows up front, great music, plenty of options for coffee/cocktails/beer, helpful staff who brought my Irish Coffee to my table. even though there were periods of time when it was super busy the staff remained calm and friendly with all of the customers without seeming rushed. Coffee Ethic makes the best "Flat White" outside of Australia that I've tasted! After living in Australia for 10+ years I've been spoiled with great baristas. LOVED THIS COFFEE SHOP. If I lived in Springfield (or anywhere remotely close), I would frequent this shop. Their coffee is PERFECT. I loved my iced coffee, and my husband's latte was delicious. The espresso was sweet, not bitter. The chocolate notes in my coffee were noticeable and delicious. Unfortunately their coffee is pretty good. But the staff is extremely rude. A friend and I went in and took a seat before we ordered anything. Within ten minutes we had two baristas come up to us and say that if we didn't order something we would have to leave. The were very rude and ignorant, assuming we were there to just take up space without ordering anything. Well, we WERE going to order something. My friend politely told them we were leaving and that they made us feel extremely uncomfortable with their quick and rude accusations. He seemed apologetic at first, assuming it took him off guard, then continued to tell us, "that's just the way it is" while the other barista continued to roll his eyes behind him. Sadly, they lost my business. Have had lots of client meetings there and suggested all my clients from out of town to stop by, but unfortunately not anymore. read more

Whether its a black coffee that has lighter flavors or a milk and espresso based flavored drink, you'll enjoy the result. Open to the square with outdoor seating, open to the library inside and no TV or distraction makes this a great location to meet up with a friend(s) or take a mental break.
