Upon entering the smell of leather rocks your soul. I would venture to say even hard core vegans love the smell of leather.  Back in the day my partner was always taking her shoes here for new heels.  Girls and their heels!!! When working in the city I would sometimes drop them of at places there just for convenience but nothing as good as The Cobblers. Not only a shoe repair place but a store for boots, work boots, hats, coats etc. I even stock up on Shoe Goo here for my Merrill running shoes with the sole that can't be replaced but was told it would be more expensive if they did it so just get the Shoe Goo. This place has been around since the late 50's and run by the same family.  Shoe repair is an art that won't get taken over by AI. The only thing that will put a place like this out of business is disposable shoes and clothes.  We are not there yet for the nice stuff. So once again my partner needed heels on her boots and since nothing local it's of to Hayward. $20 up front and a few days later boots look as good as new. New heels and all polished up. So for the ladies not sure if ya'll in the clackety heel camp or the more cushie no clack camp, but they have both. My partner is in the clackety camp. You can get hear her coming on a tile floor a mile away. So not just heels but resoles and all types of repairs. There is free parking on the street and in the back. The Cobblers is an institution in this area, they've been around for decades & I truly hope they stick around longer. They have excellent selection of shoes, western wear, leather, etc. Most importantly - they do repairs and even full rebuilds of shoes, boots, high heels, etc. I have a pair of duty boots for the fire department (Chippewa brand) that I purchased from them 20+yrs ago for the community college fire academy. After 15 or so years of daily wear and abuse, the Cobblers rebuilt them - and it was as if the boot were brand new!! I had a pull tab / loop tear off on my expensive ostrich skin western boots; they repaired it & it looked brand new. They are also INCREDIBLY skilled at re-soling shoes & boots. I have another pair of western boots, that I wear for outdoor activities; hunting, fishing, camping. Not only did they rebuild them to like-new, they installed an "aggressive" sole, so now I have a pair of western slip-on cowboy boots, which have a pair of hiking style off-road soles!! I had an overall great experience with The Cobblers. The staff were all friendly. I brought in a pair of Tecovas Cowboy Boots. I needed the rubber part of the heel replaced as it was wearing down close to the leather stack. The rubber heel was replaced with good craftsmanship. The boots were polished up nicely. Great job on my Italian leather loafers. I actually bought them in Rome over 25 years and they wore out. Now they're better than new. They were ready when they said they'd be ready so BZ for that. I went in with my Vintage Coach ergo that had a leather zipper pull falling apart. I will attach before and after photos. The pull obviously had wear so I was looking to replace it. I showed a guy there, he was super nice and accommodating, and said it was an easy job and can totally be done. I left my bag there on Saturday and picked it up Thursday. When I went to pick up my bag, I was inspecting the zipper pull and pulled out my phone to compare it to the before photos. The Cobbler's job on my zipper pull is not good. I'm usually not a confrontational person, but I asked why it doesn't look like the before and if they mapped it out before stitching. This new man who was helping me said it's obviously not going to be factory and that it's different when done by hand. I asked if there aren't any sewing machines for leather and he said there are, but he couldn't really get in there. I asked if they could do it again and if they would charge more, he said they could do it again for free, but it'll pretty much be the same. I'm not leaving my bag here just for them to "redo" it and have the same terrible craftsmanship. When I got home, I also realized they glued the leather zipper pull to the hardware. Pretty sure they had too much glue when gluing the zipper pull together because it's also visible at the curve. The leather zipper pull also doesn't line up fully. I thought I'd save myself some time having someone fix this for me, but I might as well buy a leather stitching punch tool and hand sew it myself read more

I purchased loafers and was advised by my sales associate to get the soles protected. He recommended The Cobblers in Hayward for Topy/Vibram application. I'm based in the South Bay and so is the store I bought my shoes. I thought it was crazy that he would drive all the way to Hayward for cobblers, but he swore by them. They did such a great job on my loafers that I've gone to them multiple times to proactively protect my designer shoes. I also appreciate how they set the expectation of when my shoes will be ready. I've had problems with other establishments pushing out my repairs and not letting me know. I highly recommend The Cobblers because of their attention to detail and professional care. read more

This shop did terrible work on a basic repair job and they were entirely out of line in their response when the problem was brought to their attention. The boots left the shop in worse shape than when they came in. The repair job scope was simply to apply Tuff Toe to the toe caps of some work boots, but the work was done at the level of a toddler left unattended with a squeeze tube. They did not tape/mask the boots and apply the material according to manufacturer specifications; they just glopped it on which left an uneven, bubbly, drippy mess across the leather and soles that no respectable shop would sign off on. It would have been fine had they owned up to the shoddy work as a mistake and fixed it, but they were rude, unprofessional, and dismissive. Instead, they haphazardly sanded off portions of the poorly applied Tuff Toe--damaging the boot leather in the process--and tossed refund cash across the counter. The manager was fine with all of this, indicating the integrity problem at this shop runs all the way up the chain. "Nobody cares" the sales guy said; and he's right about that, at least. Both times I've come to the store to get boots worked was no help. First incident I brought in some Thorogood's to get an insole. He told me I had the wrong size and tried to sell me another pair. I tried them on and the didn't fit at all. Put an insole in the Thorogoods and they were perfect. Second time I brought a $500 pair of boots that had a scratch on veg tan leather. Said he couldn't help fix it. I watched a YouTube video in the store and bought the supplies from him and did myself at home. Not very helpful for a boot repair location. read more

I went into the shop to have a backpack zipper pull replaced. One of the workers told me that due to the design of the bag, they would have to remove the entire lining and possibly replace the zipper teeth too. Since there is attached lining to the teeth, the worker said it was too complicated to fix. They also questioned the authenticity of the bag and recommend I sent it back to the store. I was pretty upset. I brought my backpack to another shop who is used to working with luxury items. They were able to fix my problems in 2 days without any excuses. Apparently the only thing they had to do is change the pull, not the entire thing. This just shows me that the workers at this shop do not know what they are talking about, are lazy, or both. I'm surprised I didn't review this business yet. They've been there for such a long time! Over the years I've had my shoes to polish there before and my mom is even taking her Birkenstocks there for some custom heel work. This review is overdue. So about 2 and 1/2 years ago we got that stimulus check from the government. I felt that I would have to spend this with one stipulation. I would buy American and buy local. I needed work boots. I'm a little hard to fit. The owner of the business sold me some Thorogood moc toe boots. I've been wearing them every other day at work, I work at a grocery store. The the boots work out great! My only complaint on the boots is that the tongue is a little much and bunches up. But they broken in since then. So two and a half years is not bad on a boot 3 days a week use and tons of walking at the grocery store I work at. Crouching and climbing ladders is part of my routine. I took my sandal to be repair, my right sandal was a little bit bigger so I took both sandals so the repair man could measure the left sandal, which he didn't. It took 5 days and when I went to get it it was really tight, he had damaged the platform with paint and horrible work! The sandal it ended up worse then before. I don't recommend this place! Had a pair of red bottom loafers that were in dire need of a cleaning and refurbished bottom. Wore them once and they got extremely scuffed and the bottom had some rocks and dirt stuck to it that I just couldn't clean off. Brought them to The Cobblers and within two weeks they were like new. I highly recommend The Cobblers. I've had these Koolaburra Ugg boots for over 20 years!! The soles were completely worn out and so dirty. I couldn't just toss them away because you can't find boots like these, especially with the back braid . I had the pleasure to meet Dino. Such a nice man!! He had them for a week. He tells me he doesn't have the tools to remove belt buckle from old belt and attach to new belt, no belt cutter, no belt hole puncher and no navy blue dye for shoes!! There's no way he's running a shoe and leather repair shop without those tools! I literally called ahead and was told, YES, we do those repairs here, SMDH. In fact I see a whole bunch of reviews from Caucasian patrons where some of these SAME repairs were done, so why is everything, no, no, no for the black patron? Watch Out! These guys have a fancy website but the work they do is very expensive and of very poor quality. Do not be fooled by their website photos. I had an upper leather repair job for a nearly new Air Jordan. I sent photos before sending the shoe and the representative assured me that they keep Air Jordan supplies in stock and that he would use identical color and texture leather to patch the shoe. What I got back is almost funny - if it was not such a scam. As you see, the patch was done with some sore of suede that was dyed unevenly - and much darker than the rest of the shoe. I have tried to resolve the problem but they offer no phone support and the email support stopped talking to me after first acknowledging that the repair did not look right. Sent my boots for zipper puller replacements few years ago. I asked them don't change my zipper, only the zipper puller. If it's not repairable please call me to discuss. When I came to pick up, they replaced my entire zipper without call me, so my brownish boots had a black zipper replaced and left few needles holes from original zipper. And the other pair had originally brown zipper. I was so upset, because it was my favorite boots. I asked for my old zipper they said they tossed it away. I still keep the boots in my closet, every time I see them it such pain and sad feeling. I wish they can listened what customer need. read more

I think a lot of us gained weight over the past year, but I didn't expect my legs to get thicccer. My beautiful Tony Lama boots became way too tight! I looked into stretching the boot shaft myself, but equipment is expensive and I wanted it done right. I heard from some friends into western wear that this was "the boot place." Family owned and operated for something like 65 years. They charged me $25 to stretch the boots and had to do it twice to get it big enough! I also had them replace the worn rubber heel cap/pads and they did a beautiful job for $35. I wanted to be okay with this but I am not. I'm just really upset with the way it came out. I took in my vintage esprit shoes and natural wear and tear happened with these and the midsole started coming off my left one so I had them just reattach it. When I went in to pick them up I noticed what's shown in the picture on my left shoe, which i thought was really ugly looking and rushed. I tried to brush it off and just be okay with it but it really bothered me and just upset me that they looked like this. The next day I decided to bring them back in to just show my problem with them and see what could be done, maybe even get my money back even though they say they don't do refunds. I showed the older gentleman my problem and he took them back and tried something on them, i'm not sure what exactly, and came back and basically just said 'there's nothing we can do, it's fine, you'll be fine'. I brought two pairs of shoes to have heels shorten. They did a great job on shortening the heels. Unfortunately they made a ball pen ink mark on the patent leather cream color shoe for no reason, maybe a mistake? :( . They tried to remove it but were not able to so I asked for compensation. The owner offered to send it to another store to try to get the stain out but the mark never came out. I had only wear them once before i brought them here and basically wasted $140, $120 purchase price plus $20 to have the heel shortened. I had a very bad just say what you want to put I had a very bad experience at the Cobblers today June June 13th 2025 I brought my boots in to be prepared they've done a very good job in the past I had a walking heel on my boots when I brought them in cowboy boots and when I pick them up they had a writing heel very high heel so I said hey you know I need you to put a walking heel on my boots and so they they put a walking heel on the boots and they charged me $50 for it after I'd already paid to have them full Sole and heel of $140 so I was upset when they charged me $50 to more to do something that was not correct then they said that no my boots didn't have a walking heel when I brought them in and I said yes yes they did and they even measured him with I brought in another pair of boots show them exactly what the hell was like on the boots I brought in to be fixed and the owner you know said no that's not true they we don't we don't put different heels on them we put the heels on that you know you had on the boots when you brought them in so rather than argue with them and a customer was just walked in I said okay well I'll pay the 50 bucks but I won't be back read more
