Interesting place with an interesting ambiance and food offerings. Not a bad thing, just...interesting. Hamburgers, hot dogs, mac & cheese, salads, and beer/wine are all served up in a cool space that needs some warmth added to it. The outside of this place does not do it justice! Their decor is perfectly fitting for the name and the food... the food was so delicious. I even enjoyed the mustard for the pretzel which blew my mind cause I have never liked anything with mustard before that. My new favorite restaurant is right in my own hometown! But it's so good, you should make a special trip to Fallbrook! I'm a big fan of their wedge salad and it's unlike any one I have ever tried before! I know iceberg lettuce is not the best lettuce to get, but I had to Order this for a second time this week! The tomato soup was delicious and my friend's , salmon salad had so much food that she was able to take half of it home! my husband went this week and got the burger and he raved about it! This place is totally worth the trip from San Diego! The Coal Bunker is a restaurant that serves everything homemade from scratch and opened right before COVID. They have a menu featuring delicious comfort food, in addition to a great selection of local wines and craft beers. The restaurant is train themed with a cute antiquey feel. In terms of food, everything is DELICIOUS! The Bunker Burger comes with crispy cheese, and their Firebox Chicken Sandwich is among the best spicy chicken sandwiches I've had! I was surprised to see shepherd's pie on the menu, since I don't see that often in San Diego but they knocked it out of the park! Make sure you save room for dessert because the grapefruit curd cheesecake is THE BEST!! It's made with fresh locally grown grapefruits and is unbelievably delicious. I keep coming back because the food is excellent! Wen't last night and the girl upfront acted like she didn't see us, wanted to sit at a high table, I asked her for a booth since they were ALL open. She was annoyed, she brought some spray cleaner with her. Some how managed to get spray on my arm and didn't finish wiping down the table. When you are going to spend over 100 for dinner it would be nice to have been greeted nicely. We all are going through something, if you are unhappy maybe being in the restaurant industry isn't for you. This place has huge potential with the right employees. Will try again. Excellent food!! Give it a try. Fresh food at its finest. I've been coming here for a while after working all day on my avocado grove. It's always a reward with the finest IPA's San Diego has to offer and they have the freshest wines from Fallbrook Winery, my favorite are the Bordeaux blends called BDX, they have white or red versions both outstanding. Jeff is a great host and chef. I usually get one of the great apps, along with either a burger or the incredibly fresh Salmon entree, it's a great portion and very tasty! I finish it every time. If you have room for dessert, theirs are worthy of giving a try. I've had the peanut butter/choc a couple times. It's light and tasty. One other thing I love about CB in their very clean filtered water, it is so refreshing I bring my to go cup to take it back to my grove with me if I have leftovers. Food is good & the food came up prompt but the service was poor, by the time you get a refill or a server comes to check on you your food is cold. We had to get up to request a refill of tea and salt & pepper. We didn't feel a warm welcome while dining there. read more

I thought this was a very cute location , the stairs are hard for me to climb , but once seated in the booth I was in for a treat . I had the Coal Bunker Cheddar burger ! It was sooo yummy ! Hand made burger patties not pressed Kirkland Pattie's . Meat was moist and juicy and I loved the homemade pickles ! Served with an ice cold CocaCola over ice ! I was in heaven . The Mac and cheese looked much better in the ads than in real life sadly it tasted like dry macaroni salad . Not cheese deliciousness I was going for . Great food! We were served by Ian, who was very attentive to our needs; made sure all was good, refilled waters, etc. We ordered the resentment sandwich, lights toasted. Very grid and tasty! We ordered the green chile burner, with all the squces on the side. The bun was lightly toasted, and I enjoyed the little crunch on my first bite! For sides, i had the potato skins, with ranch dipping sauces. All very very tasty and great service. This was our first time here, and we will be back. I want to like this place. I have tried it three times and three times I have been disappointed. Most recently, I ordered their Coal burger and I got the burger with bacon. Their mac n cheese which is supposed to be the best, was dry and not very tasteful. Idk, I wish I liked their food. read more

The bunker burger and the monster grilled cheese were both VERY delicious. I was impressed by the menu, other than the heartbreak that they do not serve French Fries. Our server confirmed that they do not have a frier and they are not setup to have one put in. Kettle chips on the side is something...but c'est la vie! The beer menu was well rounded, and they have some local wine options too. Overall the Coal Bunker is definitely added to our local Fallbrook rotation to visit again! read more

I kinda feel like those individuals don't know what good food is if it fell on their laps. Well, TCB food fell on our laps and we fell in love! We have tried almost everything on their menu...but we have our favorite items! First of all, order the firebox chicken sandwich...typically on Texas toast but we request it in brioche and recently switching to keto I go lettuce wrap! They are very accommodating here at TCB...we also like the marinated portobello mushroom sandwich, the Mac and cheese, the monster grilled cheese and their variety of sides like the fried potato cakes, zucchini noodles, side order of Mac n cheese and to finish off the night we get the lemon cheesecake! The bunker sauce and caramelized onions add the perfect hint of sweetness to the savory dish as it does not overpower and is the perfect addition. Everyone there is really nice and you can tell they are great people. You get so many servers checking on you, and the food is really quick thanks to the kitchen staff. The decor very well goes with the theme of a rustic kitchen. The wife and I came here on a whim. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed and chill on. Thursday afternoon. Ian was our server and he was very nice and informative. We had the tri tip sandwich and the BBQ bacon hotdog. The tri tip was very tender. The hotdog was savory and was grilled, which is always a plus. The pickles that came on the side had a tinge of sweetness, sour, and spiciness to it. The pickle appeared to be homemade. Would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. read more

My husband chose Coal Bunker for a little dinner date without the kids. No one greeted us upon arrival, but no biggie. I ordered a beer. Blonde waitress brought my beer but no waters. Had to ask for a water for my husband or he wouldn't have had a drink. Never received one for myself and husband never had a refill. Eventually, we stopped the brunette waitress to ask for water but it never came. She did apologize and I could see she was working hard. Blonde waitress never came back to our table after we ordered til we had asked for the check. Food took a while to come out. Burger was good! Grilled cheese was yummy, and you get 2, but I'd ask for more pickles next time. Chips taste like something you'd buy at the store, honestly. My husband & I dined at Coal Bunker tonight and had fantastic hamburgers! We both loved them. But, you need to serve something with the burger! Maybe some mac salad or even a handful of potato chips. We were told by server, "there are sides on the back of the menu." Mac n' Cheese, Sautéed Broccoli and Rice Pilaf aren't appropriate sides for burgers. We want to see your business succeed, you need to provide a little more. I joked with my husband, next time we come, I'll bring a bag of potato chips in my purse for us to share. Great Food but the service was below par. We walked in and went up the stairs only to be told to go back to the lobby to wait. There were a total of 4 tables with customers and I had to go back up after 10 minutes and ask what was happening only to have to head back to the lobby to wait again. We finally get seated and I made a drink and appetizer order only to again just sit there and wait while the waitress did everything but wait on us and take our meal order. After another 15 minutes we went up to pay for the sodas and let them know we would dine elsewhere. very disappointed. I really like the coal bunker but the service is in need for improvement. If there are issues or you may even be understaffed, at least verbalize it to your customer so they understand what's going on and not thinking your just ignoring them. read more
