This gentleman knows his stuff! His prices are fair, he is honest about what to expect and also gave me some education. The Best!

Jim is an awesome guy with a lot of knowledge on watches and clocks. Great job! Thalinks for everything!

This was the perfect place for me to bring my late father-in-laws Omega watch, and my late mother-in-laws Girard Perregaux wristwatch. Jim has an obvious passion for timepieces and his prices are very reasonable and the turn around was very quick. His shop is charming, unusual and has an old world feel. I'm glad I found him. There's no better place to bring your quality time pieces. read more

if you own a clock of value, sentimental or antique I highly recommend the Clockworks on Patterson. we have a "hall clock" that's about 100 years old and we had to get it serviced every couple of years. it chimes on the quarter hour and has three melodies to choose from. there was a period where I was simply tired of getting it fixed and just the clock function operate. Then I got in touch with Mr Jim at clockworks and with his magic touch... it's been good as new for the past 6 years. I would highly recommend him if you are in need of some repair work. read more

Ok, this is unlike most businesses these days so here's my take: Know what you're walking into then you can make the best decision for you. It's cluttered, crowded and seemingly disorganized. Almost like something from Hoarders. And it has a funky smell. So I typically wait outside. Mr Ahmed is brilliant, experienced and a master of all things watches. He has fixed several pieces for me when the other watch shops said it was futile. That said, I feel like it's pretty expensive and you'll pay for every little adjustment. (I get that, time is money and I want to be paid for my years of expertise, too.) But he'll gift you an extensive tutorial on your watch! So pack your patience and non judgment because he'll tell you EXACTLY what he thinks. All this being said, he's my go-to in the rare occasion I need my watch fixed. I get my head in the game and head on over. read more

Mr. Ahmed is knowledgeable and personable. We've had our Regulator clock since around the time we married (44years ago). Before I could tell Jim what I knew about it, he had already told me the history of the clock. I can't remember the last time our clock worked, it's just been a wall decoration for decades. After the repair work was done, Jim said,"I'm thinking you got 8-10 years run time during the 40+ years you've owned this. That sounds exactly right to me. It's great to have our clock back on the wall, running and chiming again! Mr. Ahmed runs his business the old fashioned way, friendly, knowledgeable , no nonsense, with a handshake. I will definitely recommend him and will use again should the situation arise. Thanks Much Jim! read more

Jim has an obvious passion for what he does and it shows. My mother's Grandfather clock had not been working for years. Before contacting Jim she reached out to a different repairman who got the clock in working order, but but only for a brief period of time. The repairs were only made on the surface. My mom then did more research and found Clockworks. She contacted Jim and he came to the house to look at the clock. He took it completely apart which is what needed to be done from the beginning. The clock now works beautifully and my mother is thrilled to have it working again, as it was a gift from my late father. Thank you, Jim! read more

The Clockworks - Now I have my watch back - Watch Repair Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

Last year I brought a pendulum clock to The Clockworks for cleaning and repair, which was done for a reasonable price. Last week the clock stopped working, so I returned to The Clockworks to have it checked. Mr. Ahmed correctly diagnosed the problem and made the necessary adjustments while I waited. When I offered to pay him for his services, he refused. I always like to compensate those with skills and talents I do not possess, and Mr. Ahmed's kind refusal of my offer speaks to his professionalism and pride in his craft. The clock works properly now, and I highly recommend him and his services. read more

I have several expensive, unusual and complicated watches that have sat in my jewelry box for many years. I was told by a few different watch repair places that I had to send them back to their respective manufacturers for repair. I brought them to Mr. Ahmed yesterday and he repaired all of my watches the same day. He had all the parts necessary for my repairs in his shop and even though it is cluttered, he knows exactly where everything is. I highly recommend The Clockworks if you have a watch and/or clock repair. read more

Clockworks was the perfect next chapter in the love story told by my clock. When my parents were newly married and completely broke, my dad upset my mom by spending $50 to buy this clock. He fell in love with it and had to have it. It ticked in the background of our lives and stood by as narration of their love story until I got married. My husband, who is now my ex-husband, hated the sound. My dad graciously swapped out the wind-up mechanism for a battery to please a person who didn't deserve it out of love for me. The clock was never the same, and my dad's magic touch that sustained the heartbeat of the clock's hands died with him 12 years ago. That is, until yesterday, when I took it to Clockworks out of love for my mom and her sentimentality over this clock. The heart of the clock is beating again, the face has new hands to point to the passage of time in lives that are different but beautiful in their new way. Whether you have a clock with a story or without, trust Clockworks to keep it running. It's old-world craftsmanship and artistry, paired with charming banter and a shop that could have been torn from a movie set in its quirky, cluttered way. It's a bit of a magical experience that's quite rare. read more

I took my hermetically sealed Joe Rodeo watch to this shop, at the owners request so he could look at it before cleaning. When I approached the store he was on the front porch. I explained that I had spoken with him on the phone and was there to show him my watch. When I handed it to him, he immediately said "I won't work on Chinese junk". I was shocked and said it had a lot of sentimental value. Again, he repeated he would not work on Chinese junk. I have since had it cleaned and appraised. It is far from a piece of junk, and is quite valuable. In addition to being rude and arrogant the owner doesn't know much about watches. read more

I called this shop to see if they could look at my father's pocket watch that stopped working. It is not an expensive watch by any means. It is more sentimental than anything. I was refused immediately, over the phone, was told that he has too many watches now. He didn't even want to look at the watch to see if it could be repaired. I thought this business was about repairing watches, so I don't understand how you could have too many watches when this is your line of business. I was willing to wait but not for this kind of service. read more

Once again The Clockworks has come to my aid and I am so grateful. This time it was trying to find a simple locking mechanism for a very inexpensive clock I have. The store is very cluttered--looks like something one might see on Hoarders. There is an unplesant odor that can be detected through a surgical mask. That being said,I left my watch with the owner for an estimate on repair, as he had been recommended to me. When I went to collect the watch, opting to not have him do the work, he searched for a few minutes *through a shoebox full of dirty ziploc bags* and returned my watch to me. He told me he did not need my business. read more

I have been to Mr. Ahmed's shop three times over the last several years for battery replacements and the removal of a few extra links. He is extremely efficient, as well as courteous and friendly. You can tell that he is passionate about his work and that he truly enjoys sending his customers on their way with their timepieces in good working order. I know that I could go online and spend the money for a repair kit to learn something as rote as battery replacement myself, but the truth is I enjoy frequenting Mr. Ahmed's shop. I will be a lifelong customer here. read more

I took a very old clock to Mr.Ahmed for repairs. It's an Ansonia with a lovely chime and beautiful clock face. I grew up hearing the chimes as a child, but for the past couple of decades it wasn't maintained and had stopped running. It was a pleasure meeting Mr. Ahmed and having him get my clock up and running again. read more

This is my time writing a review but I believe it needs to be stated. Jim has worked on our grandfather clock for more than 15 years. He is passionate and intelligent. Yet this brilliance has always come with an arrogance that "no one else could work on our clock,. He never forgets to tell us that Google reviews described him as the best clockman in the world. His fees have always been reasonable until this year when he charged us an exorbitant fee for a service that took him an hour to complete. Much more than years in the past. We have always been satisfied with the outcome and simply dealt with his arrogance until this year. The first time we wound the clock after this service, there was a pop, and the weights were immediately misaligned. I spoke with him on the phone. He immediately blamed us for "winding it wrong". As I thought back, he has blamed us for many things. One year, he asked me why I had changed something in the weights. As if I knew how to do anything with those weights. He said he would come look at it. I called one week later, and he said he would come look at it, but it was our fault, and I would be charged the house call fee and anything else that he needed to do. He continued stating that his work was perfect and our fault. I was flabbergasted at his lack of customer care for a long-time customer. The conversation started off calm until he continued to blame us for the issue. It got heated, and he suggested that physicians would still charge for a second visit even if the patient died of a heart attack the day after. I was a bit confused by this analogy. I called the two other clock services in Richmond. Both were pleasant and helpful. My clock was repaired that week at a cost of what was a third of what Jim charged. The gentlemen did state that the cable was not wired on the drums correctly. He also fixed the chiming on the clock, which Jim said was impossible to do. Jim can continue to boast of his great abilities, and he is talented, but not as talented as others in the area. I also don't have to deal with his haughtiness. He will not steal our money anymore. read more

The owner was courteous & removed the links from my watch in minutes. It fits perfectly!

In 1972 my new bride and I gave my father an Acutron Space View watchfor his birthday. He loved that watch. In 1975 he died leaving that watch to me. years ago I had it reconditioned at great expense. One day leaving it to my eldest grandson. Today I noticed it wasn't working so I took it to a battery shop and was told to take it to a watch repair. My wife said she heard good things about Clockworks@ 5613 Patterson Ave. Mr. Ahmed opened the door for me into a cluttered, seemly disorganized shop. I've learn over the years that a clean , well organized repair shop means they send business out or no business. With one look he told me about the watch and even it was made in 1972. He gave me a price FAR below what I've already spent and I was prepared to leave it for repairs BUT NO. With several adjustment of a tiny screwdriver , in 15 minutes he handed me my father's watch humming( yes they hum, not tick) and set. Mr. Ahmed is a CRAFTSMAN, which is rare today. Thank you for giving my father's memento back to me For watch or clock GO NOWHERE ELSE Edward Katz read more

Anyone watch Hoarders? I could hardly get in the (very dirty) door. Musty, moldy smell. I needed a battery for my watch. He quoted $45.00. Only accepts cash or checks. I said I don't carry either one and he asked me to go to an ATM. I went to The Clock Shop on Broad street instead. $12.00 for a new battery. Clean and friendly folks there. read more

Mr. Ahmed helped repair a broken piece in our grandfather clock. Wonderful experience!!

I took two watches in for replacement batteries on Saturday. It was immediately apparent that this shop takes pride in educating customers and doing things the right way. I had never been invited to watch someone work on my watch before. It was immediately apparent when the back was removed from one of my watches that a prior battery replacement at a different shop had damaged my watch. It wasn't a concern, it was just quickly corrected. I definitely will not hesitate to bring other pieces here for repair. Educating customers on how to navigate their pieces needing repair and knowing how to source a quality shop is a skill we can all benefit from, but few shop owners would take the time to do so. I truly appreciate the care taken and feel very confident in the quality of the work done. Thank you! read more

I recently had my watch battery replaced here by the proprietor. He was friendly, had a gentle disposition and finished the job in no time flat for a very reasonable price. The location on Patterson is handy for those of us in Western Henrico and the West End of Richmond. I will certainly return when my watch battery dies again, that's for sure. If you have more complicated jobs (grandfather clocks, music boxes, non electric watches) it seems as though he's got that covered too, although I can only vouch for the simple job that was my watch. read more

We thought noone could put our clock back together. We were wrong!....Mr Ahmed of Clockworks completely rebuilt our clock to like new condition. This gentleman can perform magic!
