I was given a charming vintage Caravelle/Bulova watch and immediately one of the pins for the wristband broke. I read reviews of local watch repair shops and decided that Clockworks was good for my small repair - but I felt a little bit bad taking a wristband repair to someone so skilled in actual watch and clock repair, but I made the right decision. Mr. Achmet had the right tool to replace the pin - and two other people came in with similar repair requests while I was waiting. My wrists are very thin so he removed some of the links. I noticed when he told the other customers what he was going to do, he made sure the links were evenly balanced. It fits well now. This was technically not a watch repair but rather a wristband repair, while I was waiting I realized what a wonderful resource this little shop is. I will be returning. read more

HIGHLY recommend this place-- writing this review a bit late but i had originally gone to fast fix in short pump for my broken watch and was quoted $75+ to fix it, plus it would have taken a few days at the very least! when i got to the clockworks, Jim, the owner was so kind and helpful, fixed my watch right away and even showed me how he did it, and for forty dollars less than the other place was quoting me. if i ever have any problems with my watch again, i'll definitely be going back here. Went in for a new battery for my Cartier watch and was quoted $65, which seemed expensive, but okay. He only accepts cash so I told him I was going to the ATM, but he told me I needed to watch him so I could see what he was doing. To be polite, I did. It took about 15 minutes in all and then he told be because he had to adjust the gasket (which took about 2 minutes) it would another $20 - so $85 total. I told him I didn't feel that was fair, as the gasket should be part of the service. He got very angry and told me he didn't need my business and to go somewhere else next time. It was a very jarring experience. And yes, he tells everyone who comes in that he is the "best watch repair in the world" according to Google and asks for your Google review. Oh, and a Google search revealed that Cartier would only charge me $46 to replace the battery AND the gasket! read more

I brought my Shinola watch in today because it wasn't working and when Jim looked at it he immediately recognizers that someone else had been replacing the battery prior. He pointed out that the screws were loose and therefore dirt had gotten into the mechanics of the watch. There weee also fingerprints on the back of the dial and som minor rust. He cleaned it and tightened the battery holder, which was also loose. All of these could have led to larger issues. I would recommend not going to any of the fast fix places in the west end and just go to Clockworks. read more

We had a family grandfather clock delivered by a professional mover, but it did not work when they left. It is a trend timepiece by Sligh purchased in 1985 style number 0919-1-MH. We were so lucky to have found Jim to make a house call. He arrived on time and began working on servicing our grandfather clock. He properly removed the clock, movement and mechanism, took it apart, lubricated thoroughly then reassembled and balanced the foot casters. I would like to take this opportunity to leave a review of my experience today 08/19/2024 with Mr. Jim Ahmed, owner of The Clock works at 5613 Patterson Ave. In December of 2019 my wife gifted me an Invicta time piece. This watch is very special to me. I have other watches but never a Invicta. I wore it three times. I initially was told that it was self winding, eventually the watch stopped working. The truth of the matter, it ran on a battery. That's when my difficulty began. For several years the watch rested it its yellow box. This was about to change. For the past few months, I started by mission to have the batter replaced. I went to numerous places with no resolve of having the battery replaced. For the sake of this review I will not name the businesses. Today 08/19/2024, my watch is now working. Thanks to the skilled and talented Mr J Ahmed Today is my wife's birthdays and I decided that today would be the day I have the timepiece working. I suggested to my wife that Tyson's Corner would be a stop to make on our outing. She replied. Is there a place closer. I immediately went to Google search typed in the word Invicta repair and Mr Ahmad establishment displayed in the search. Today at 4pm, after shopping with my wife for her birthday present. We put in the address of The Clockworks. As we drove the sky started to get dark and shortly after the torrential downpour began and lasted until I arrived at 5316 Patterson Ave. Once inside the store, I was greeted by Mr Ahmed. I asked if he could replace the batter in my watch. He said he could and I could watch him replace the battery. Wow. Never did anyone offer that opportunity. Mr Ahmed worked feverishly to open the back of the watch with out damaging the finish. Because of the size of the watch and the fact that the back of the watch had never been removed, Mr Ahmed attempted and was successful in removing the back of the watch. He explained every detail as he meticulously maneuvered to accomplish the task at hand. Not only did I get the battery replaced, I also received an education. Mr Ahmed did what no one else could do. if you own a clock of value, sentimental or antique I highly recommend the Clockworks on Patterson. we have a "hall clock" that's about 100 years old and we had to get it serviced every couple of years. it chimes on the quarter hour and has three melodies to choose from. there was a period where I was simply tired of getting it fixed and just the clock function operate.
