Mixed experience: skilled brows, awkward process…read more I read a lot of reviews before trying a new place, and this one had a very consistent theme: great results, not-so-great hospitality, and a bit of a strange vibe. I figured I was just going in for an eyebrow cleanup, so I could live with that. The location is in a street-mall style complex with a bunch of beauty suites. Parking is super easy, which I appreciated. The area itself isn't particularly well kept and feels more open, almost like a market-style setup--but that was pretty much what I expected based on the reviews. Before heading over, I called to ask about availability since I'm used to appointment-only systems (especially after living in CA and NYC). The phone interaction was... odd. I was asked how far away I was, told to call when I arrived, then to text my name. It worked, but it felt a little disorganized. For clarity: this is appointment-only, even if that's not super obvious online--definitely book ahead. Once inside, things moved very fast. I was immediately told to get in the chair, but there wasn't much interest in discussing brow shape or goals. I tried to show reference photos (of my own brows from before), but they were brushed off with "it's different for everyone" and "I know what I'm doing." No photos were really looked at. The service itself was quick, but very curt. No warmth, no consultation, very "next step, next step." I didn't love the initial result and asked for revisions. I had to be extremely specific and insist on showing my reference before continuing. By that point, some of the damage was already done, but the final result ended up being okay. The price was $15, which felt reasonable and comparable to what I've paid elsewhere. I do think she's skilled, and she even mentioned that next time would be much better--which I believe. It feels like she knows what she's doing, but doesn't enjoy listening or collaborating, especially with new clients. Bottom line: Good technical skill, fast service, very rough around the edges. If you're confident, very specific, and already know her style, you'll probably be happy. As a first-time client, though, it's a challenging experience. Go in knowing exactly what you want--and be prepared to speak up.

If you are a South Asian girlie you need to RUN not walk to this salon. After extensive research…read morelast year I found Shahnaz salon as a place where I got my hair done while visiting family in Texas. I met Sonia who is an absolute angel. She is so dedicated and cares so much about your happiness as a client. Her advice on how to color treat my hair was sincere, honest and not geared towards over-selling me on anything. Over time I have found most of the women working here share that attitude. They will flat out say hey I don't think you should trim right now or I don't think this will work for you... you have no idea how much this level of honesty and integrity matters in the beauty world and that's why I religiously wait to come here every-time I'm in Texas to get my hair done. The salon carries high quality and professional Matrix hair products especially the dye that I have found suits my hair a lot. The first time Sonia did my hair color, my friends and family wouldn't stop complimenting me for weeks. I turned heads everywhere I went and since then I have only come to her trusted abode to make me look and feel fabulous. If you are on the fence about getting your hair done professionally, look no further than the trusted care of Sonia and her wonderful team. Thank you for always making this New Yorker feel her most amazing self!! I can't wait to return to NYC with my new hair and have a memorable summer!!

I am disgusted. Sonia should not be allowed anywhere near a thread. She butchered my eyebrows like…read moreshe was in a rush to ruin someone's face. I came in with my brows brushed and filled, CLEARLY told her to just clean around them -- and she still went ahead and ripped off half my brow. It's not even a mistake -- it's pure carelessness. She wouldn't stop yapping while working, and her hands felt like sandpaper. If she really has 16 years of experience, then she's clearly learned nothing in that time except how to destroy people's faces while running her mouth. Bharti and Sushma are so much better. Sonia? Zero listening, zero care, zero skill. And now I have to show up to a photoshoot next week with these pencil-thin excuses for eyebrows. Look at the attached photos. First is before, second is the disaster she left me with. This is not threading -- this is vandalism. If this is the standard she sets as a manager, then I genuinely feel bad for anyone walking into this salon trusting they'll be treated with care. I wouldn't let her touch my face again if she were the last threader on earth. And if that wasn't enough, while doing my brows, she had the nerve to make disgusting comments about Nepal -- saying a temple "smelled so bad she couldn't stand there." I didn't say anything then, but let me say it now: you come from India, and let me remind you -- India is no better than Nepal. Making cheap, offensive comments about someone's country just shows what kind of person you are. Instead of running your mouth with disrespectful nonsense, maybe focus on your actual job. Learn how to listen to your clients, do your work properly, and keep your opinions, especially the ignorant ones , to yourself.
