Braised beef short rib

Highly recommend the Citizen. All around wonderful experience, good drinks, service and the patio has great vibes. The schnitzel was amazing, so was the palm sugar seared tuna-this is served cold.

Charred oysters

Oysters were phenomenal! Waitress was very kind and attentive. Chowder was the best I ever had. I would say mocktail totally not worth it, $14 for what tasted like water sadly... had a verryyyy extended wait for our dessert, which was a little underwhelming. Probably wouldn't get the shrimp appetizer again, not the best. But the food/service/vibe outweighed those things given my 5 star. Would definitely come back

We came here for a dinner for a Bachlorette. Overall the vibe was very nice. We got there a little early and enjoyed their seats outside while we waited for our table to be ready. They did have zero proof drinks for our pregnant guest which was nice. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Very clean which I appreciated.

Lobster Tail

This place is amazing! We sat on the patio area and the environment is so cute and beachy! We ordered the whipped feta and shrimp cocktail and they were both fabulous, as well as yummy martinis! We had the lobster tail and catch of the day options and YUM! Also amazing photo opportunities in the area LOVED IT !!!!

I really enjoyed this establishment. I felt it delivered exactly what I was expecting. Great atmosphere at the seafood bar for a martini and of course we needed to order oysters and they were perfect. We continued with the she crab soup, soup and pasta with mushrooms and pork belly. The pasta was excellent and we took half of it with us and had it cold for lunch the next day and loved it just the same. Nice expierence.

Southern Eggs Benedict--well worth a try!
Chad M.

The Southern Eggs Benedict was one of the most delicious riffs on an Eggs Benedict I've ever eaten. Pork shoulder was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned, cheddar biscuits would've been amazing alone and were a glorious choice for the bread base, perfectly cooked eggs, and a tangy hollandaise...amazing. Aside from that gem, the overall menu looked similarly excellent, lots of choices for lots of tastes. Cocktails were quite enjoyable. Ambiance is comfortably elegant--bright and welcoming (I see where one reviewer commented on acoustics, and I could see that as an issue with a crowd, but it was fine while I was there). Service was exceptional--welcoming, attentive, helpful. Would very much recommend this spot (and, yes, like a lot of things in the area, it's on the pricier side, but not to where I'm shocked given where it's located and the quality).

The hummus plate was delicious!

My husband and I went on a date night here and loved everything we had! The mocktails we had were soooo good and flavorful, the oysters were delicious and fresh, the hummus plate was homemade and came with delicious toppings like veggies and seasoned almonds and pumpkin seeds which was creative! The beef tartar was really flavorful and filling! We also enjoyed the shaved ice for dessert that had a tropical syrup! Also the vibe inside is beautiful and creative and inspiring! We would definitely recommend this spot!

Shrimp Ceviche

My second time dining here and I had one of the best dinners yet, at The Citizen. The right ambience, wonderful design, food, and service are the ingredients to happiness! Sebastian and David were beyond hospitable and had so much authentic enthusiasm explaining the menu offerings and all things Alys Beach. Mint Ty cocktail with three different rums was distinctive and so very good. Hats off to the chef. I'd recommend the shrimp ceviche with Gulf prawns, a smattering of mango, shallots, and peppers, served with the most comforting and delicious warmed buttered saltine crackers. WOW! Main dish was pork tenderloin over a bed of polenta, buttery roasted butternut squash medallions and sautéed vegetables.

Outside patio

Absolutely stunning inside and out! Loved having drinks at the patio before dinner. The service was good and the food was nothing to die for but tasty (depending on what you get) definitely recommend making reservations for a bigger group.

The mocktails were amazing for this pregnant lady. I got the dupe of an Aperol Spritz and it was even better than an alcoholic Aperol Spritz if I'm being honest! The food was incredible. My husband got the summer pesto pasta and got shrimp for the protein. I got the she crab soup with a wedge salad and it was also incredible. The ambiance was modern yet cozy. Definitely a nice place but was still very kid friendly. We'll be back when we visit!

avocado toast

First time here. Very impressed with the interior design. Relaxed, spacious, and the ambient noise level was good. Got terrific service the entire time. Started out with the "Warm Angel Biscuit". So good, that we could have just ordered several more of those and skip the meal. For the meal, we ordered Avocado Toast, Short Rib Hash, Charred Avocado Salad. The Avocado entrees were very good. The Short Rib Hash was a bit disappointing. The potatoes were over cooked , to the point of almost being mashed. We would come back again, but skip the Short Rib Hash for something else.

Fish

Absolutely loved the citizen - from food to services it was a great experience. We had a preset menu with a few options and everything I tried was delicious! Loved the apps, the shrimp and whipped feta being a clear favorite and a nice spread of dips. For an entree I tried the fish and brisket and loved both. The meat in particular was cooked until it melted in your mouth and was full of flavor. They made a great mezcal old fashioned as well as espresso martinis! Would definitely return.

Smoked fish dip, whipped feta and a dozen oysters!
Lou R.

We went for happy hour and were very happy! A dozen oysters, whipped feta and fish dip were all excellent! The staff were friendly and courteous, the atmosphere was great! Will definitely go back for more!

What is the dress code for dinner?

There isn't one from what I've seen but business casual is probably the best when visiting a nice establishment like this. You don't have to go crazy but a nice polo and khakis for men and for women, a dress or something along those lines. Enjoy!

Do they have valet parking?

There should be a valet but if you get there they have self parking as well. The area is stunning so it's worth coming early to walk around.

The service is always quick, and the waiters are always very informed of what the dishes are if you have any questions. They have a very good mixed drink selection, if you're looking for alcohol, and their beers are priced decently for the area you're in. We went to George's most recently on a night when it was a bit chilly out, but they had heaters going and you could sit outside to enjoy the fresh air while eating dinner. Everything on their menu that we've ever tried has been five-star, elite food. The quality of the food is worth the price. We got dessert this most recent time which was also amazing. I believe their menu changes depending on the season so I would highly recommend visiting multiple times on any trip. You take to 30A. Extra note - it is a kid-friendly setup, if you have young ones that you would like to take. There are some areas in 30A where it's a bit too fancy or uncomfortable to take kids, but this is a good spot for a family.

The food, though, didn't quite hit the mark. The lunch menu felt pretty limited, and what we ordered just wasn't very flavorful. We tried an appetizer and an entrée each, but nothing really stood out. I was excited about the lobster and shrimp quesadilla, but it ended up being the biggest letdown. Looking back, I probably should've gone with the burger. Prices were on the high side for what we got, which might just be because of the location, but still felt steep. Overall, amazing service, but the food and value didn't live up to expectations.

We lucked out that they let us come with our two adult sons and one slightly younger since he was with his parents. Appetizers: ceviches, blackened crab legs, and butter candle. All were fantastic. Great flavor. Mains: I had the red snapper and took the server's recommendation to swap the fingerling potatoes for the truffled mashed potatoes. (Lighting in the picture isn't great, but it was divine.) My husband & one son had the filet, another had the pasta, and the last one had the pork chop. All were really good. Dessert: we sampled the chocolate torte, crème brûlée, and the key lime pie. All were good, but not standouts on their own.

I stopped by to order a quick coffee to walk around with over Thanksgiving break. It's not just coffee and food inside, but a full bar and convenience store with fun beach snacks. It reminded me a bit of Disney World, it all almost feels fake, like it's part of a larger show. The decor is beautiful, of course, and a welcome splash of color amongst the all-white Alys Beach architecture. One thing my aunties pointed out is that the items in the convenience store did not have labeled prices. They asked the women at the counter about it and she replied, "we just don't do that here." This did not sit right with my aunties, and they expressed that they wouldn't buy something from somewhere that wasn't upfront about prices. I must agree, and if I was the clerk, I might have just offered to price check what they wanted instead. My coffee was good. I recognize we're on beach time, but it did seem to take a while to be ready. All in all, though, this is a beautiful place. Worth seeing.

The soup was my favorite crab soup out of the 3 I tried around 30a. We got the shrimp carbonara and shrimp and grits for our entrees. The carbonara portion was huge. Appetizers came out pretty quick. The complimentary bread was good. Our only criticism was that the shrimp came with the tails on so we can get our hands dirty with sauce to remove the tails off. Not going to deduct points for it as it seems like everywhere in 30a serves shrimp with tails but my southern husband was disappointed by it at a nice restaurant. We will definitely be back on future trips to 30a.
