Lindsay made a fantastic first impression and expertly guided us through the menu. Every recommendation was spot on. The smoked Old Fashioned paired with the Clothesline Bacon was an incredible start--the bacon is a must-order item with its unique combination of beans and spiced peaches. The Pimento Hushpuppies with jalapeño chutney were another standout. While the larger plates were excellent, the duck was the star of the evening. Paired with the Brussels sprouts, it was one of the best duck dishes I've had anywhere along the Florida Panhandle. The chef deserves credit for the creativity and intentionality behind every dish. Everything felt thoughtfully paired and executed. The outdoor patio was also an amazing atmosphere--comfortable, inviting, and surprisingly pleasant even in the Florida heat. You can tell this is a family-owned restaurant that genuinely cares about quality. Ambiance was nice but service was not great for our group of six. We started by ordering drinks and four appetizers. Four of the five drinks arrived, then the appetizers came. Our server never checked on us so we couldn't inquire about the missing drink. We ate all of the appetizers with our menus still on the table because he didn't come back to take our dinner order until we had eaten all of the appetizers and had to flag down someone else to ask if we could place our entree order. Have never had that happen at any dining establishment let alone a higher end restaurant like Surfing Deer! It took a long time for the entrees to arrive and to get our drink order corrected. The original adult mocktail was given to one of the kids and it was unclear that it was her kids drink that was never brought to the table. Our truffle fries were cold, the pad Thai was chewy and oddly salty. Those things could have been overlooked but we just felt overall that we weren't really being cared for at the table so we skipped dessert. It was a very disappointing experience. I ordered a strawberry cocktail and he fig and the bee and both were delicious. We started the meal with the fried oysters elite and the chilled jumbo shrimp. The bar area is stunning with deer statues and a really sweet backstory about a man and his pet deer that adds a special touch to the vibe. We weren't super hungry, so we ordered a few things to share. The hushpuppies and bread rolls were both really good. I had the chicken soup, it was very flavorful and the summer panzanella burrata salad -- both were fresh and delicious. It's one of the few places it seems that you can actually make a reservation which we appreciated with having such a large party. The prices here are high- but what else is there to expect in this area for a nice restaurant. The kids meals are around $15 but they do have some good options with fries and fruit as a side. The calamari appetizer is huge!! The sauce i think needs some tweeking that comes with it. It was fine, just needs more flavor. We split the tuna small plate and the salmon plate- we both liked the salmon more! The tuna had too much sauce and i wasn't a big fan of the sauce- it was overpowering and you couldn't really taste the tuna. The salmon was delicious- would have just had that- it looked different than other people's photos as it wasn't in a skillet. Funny enough, that plate needed more sauce hahaha. Went here for a much needed date night with my husband while on vacation. The atmosphere is stunning and beautiful. Very clean and sophisticated! We started with two cocktails and both were perfect. We ordered the Brussels as an appetizer and they were gone in a blink, so good! For dinner I got the crab cakes. They were perfect, full of meat and the pairings were impeccable! They do require valet for such a small parking lot. I personally think just another way to make more money. We stopped in to celebrate my birthday this Saturday around 5pm. We had made a reservation and we're so glad we did! The menu had a good variety of different options and everything sounded so delicious. We decided to start with the Clothesline Bacon and Surfing Deer KFC. Both were very delicious! The bacon was one of my favorite items we had. We followed that up with the jalapeño corn bread which was moist and flavorful. Served with a warm gooey butter. For main course, we had scallops and the blackened grouper fish special. Both dishes flavorful and delicious. We finished the night with an espresso martini and brownie skillet. Overall the food was 10/10. Fresh, flavorful and so so tasty! The waitstaff was also very attentive and patient with us. They made the experience even better. Visited Surfing Deer with another couple. The atmosphere is nice but pretty everything else was pretty disappointing for this supposedly "high end" restaurant. The food was OK but nothing special for the prices charged. The service was quite average...a drink order never came, the food came OK but it took forever to get the bill and I had to track down the waiter. I did not know what the charge called $10 NCA was for...it was for using a credit card. Well, I guess you have to bring $300-$400 cash to restaurant to avoid this charge.
