    Shawarma with rice
    Kait C.

What a treat to have The Chubby Chickpea at The Pioneer this afternoon! Thank you so much to both parties. For my dish I chose the shawarma with rice and my husband got the special which was shawarma, tabbouleh, and falafel. Both came with pita, hummus, and cucumber salad. Everything we had was super delicious and flavorful! I loved the hummus and cucumber salad the most. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something on the go in Boston. The service was quick and the staff was friendly too.

I love love the chubby chickpea sandwich with either lafa or pita from their food truck! My favorite toppings are lettuce and mango sauce but unfortunately they're not serving the free topping options anymore :( I'm so sad to see they're updating their menu and getting rid of a lot of good options, including the fried eggplants! So if you're in the area to access their full menu, chicken shawarma, hummus, fried eggplants, mango sauce, those are my favorite. Grape leaves, no no.

Food: 3.0/5.0 Service: 1.5/5.0 Value: 1.5/5.0 Decor: 1.5/5.0 Overall: 2.5/5.0 Got a chicken shawarma plate with a bed of chickpeas. I was really disappointed when I opened my box back in the office. Why? Because when I choose "shawarma" over "falafel", "chicken schnitzel", "fried eggplant", and "chicken kebab", I generally assume that the shawarma is not chicken shawarma. Alas, it was. (Incidentally, the catering menu on the Chubbs website separately lists chicken v. beef/lamb shawarma options - so why isn't it on the truck menu?!) The food was mediocre, and there was way too much chickpea (probably should have gotten the rice instead). My lack of ordering prowess aside, the line is really really slow. I complained a bit about the Chicken & Rice guys being slow - Chubbs takes the cake. They were probably processing barely 1.5 orders/minute (which is slow for what should be a high volume lunchtime operation) and I had to give my order twice - once so they start cooking it and a second time to the cashier so I can get charged. How does that make any sense? The once nice surprise I did get was the garlic in the hummus - a bold move that I'm sure gets plenty of other people in a bunch, but I thought that was a winner. The plates are also a bit expensive for a lunchtime food truck. Honestly not that surprising that this line tends to be way shorter than the Bon Me (banh mi) line next to it.

YUMM! Their food is so full of flavor, but feels incredibly light and healthy!

Rainy Thursday, found the Chubby Chickpea nearby and had to try. Went with Shawarma Plate, which comes with chicken, hummus, marinated veggies, pita bread and chickpea salad. Chicken shawarma plate desperately needs white or hot sauce. There was some sauce drizzled on top, but I'm not sure what it was. The chicken is over seasoned, giving some pieces a gritty mouthfeel. Further, while some pieces have a slight crispness, most pieces are soggy. Furthermore, the chicken was a bit salty. Underneath the chicken was what I believe is the chickpea salad, which was just cold chickpeas. There might have been some marinade on the chickpeas, but they just tasted like chickpeas to me. I'm not if these chickpeas were boiled fresh or from a can. Pita bread was warm, but a little soggy. I do like that it is fluffy and it is fun to try eating it with hummus or chicken or all three at the same time. The hummus was a little salty. There is a slight staleness and bitterness here, reminiscent of store brands of hummus. Not sure if this in an indication that the hummus is not house made or not. And the marinated veggies or what I believe is the Israeli Salad was mostly tomatoes, cucumbers and some light vinaigrette. Not much going on here. Nothing about this shawarma plate was particularly tasty, and it was reminiscent of some of my own attempts to recreate shawarma at home. The colors, tastes, and textures are lacking and I cannot recommend this food truck.

I don't understand why people seem to just not like this truck... or at least the people who do like it simply arent on Yelp? there is always a good line during the lunch rush, and the gents working are always doing all they can to get food out quickly. Perhaps the Food Truck Elite are sticking their noses up... first and foremost, this is a FOOD TRUCK, and its shawarma--- which by most traditions is a fast food. This isn't the tiny white tablecloth greek place you might stop in and have a sit down lunch at. You get given sandwiches and dishes in to-go containers. I always get my old standby, the chubby chickpea--- this is a pita/lavash with seasoned chicken shawarma and falafel in it, along with a healthy smear of hummus as well as tahini, along side some spices, cucumber, tomato, and deliciousness. They have a fryer in the truck, so they are constantly pumping out hot and CRISPY falafels. The chicken is prepared and kept warm, but not cooked on the truck while they are cooking. They mostly make the salads, and falafels on the fly. You can get side salads, fries, and add whatever you want to the sandwiches. They also have a "Chiseled Chickpea" which is white breast kebab, and falafel. (The Chubby is Shawarma) Crispy and well seasoned falafels, in a rush, in a bursting to the limits lavash bread? Yes please!!!

Deeeeelish! I caught the Chubby Chickpea Truck on the corner of Huntington and Belvedere. At ten past noon, there was hardly a line! I had the limonata ($3) to drink- Fresh squeezed lemonade with Mediterranean spearmint, served over crushed ice. Super refreshing... just missing vodka! (hehe) I had the Chubby Veggie Laffa wrap, which is made of falafel and fried eggplant. The price of this particular item is confusing to me. The meat wraps are $8.50 while the vegetarian wraps are $6.50. Shouldn't a half eggplant and half falafel be $6.50? It was priced at $8.50, same as the meat combos. Hummus and tzaziki- yumm! Extras such as Israeli pickles, sauces, lettuce, etc are also available. Beware: Your breath is going to stank.

We got The Chubby Chickpea "catered" for our Food Truck Fridays at work. I got a chicken kebab plate with yellow rice, hummus & quinoa. It also came with a flatbread, which I didn't actually eat. The portion was huge; I couldn't finish it all. The chicken was tender and the hummus was flavorful. The quinoa complemented the rest of the food as well. I had friends who got the falafel pita and they enjoyed it as well. Overall, pretty good, though the hummus/garlic flavor stayed in my mouth for a loonnngggg, lonnngggg time.

I really enjoyed the pita bread, chicken, and hummas. That being said I should have gotten the chicken wrap. The falafel was very hard and really wasn't all that flavorful. Also there was no hot sauce? Kind of odd I would have liked to see something spicy. The grape leaves we're ok. I got the taste of Mediterranean plate so I had to pay extra to add chicken to this and good thing I did. I would have been very disappointed if I had gotten the falafel alone. There's certainly potential here and I hope they do improve. I think their fad will fade if they don't make some improvements. Also you feel like crap after eating this junk. If your looking for a home run falafel place try falafel King in boston.

Delicious falafel from a food truck, much more in line with what I want from a falafel wrap than Clover.

I would recommend calling beforehand to ask about the wait. Although we commuted from Cambridge, this meal was worth it. For two people, we got: - Black Seed Cornbread: it's soft, sweet yet savory. I've never had cornbread like this, and the first bite into this was unforgettable. You must get this. - Honey Nut Hummus: this was honestly fine and I'd probably try a different dip next time. - Warm Gyro bread: well seasoned and great to share between two. I normally don't like gyro but I enjoyed this. - Lamb al pastor: this was a favorite. It was sweet and the lamb was tender. We were really impressed with the sauce. - Brussel sprout bravas: this was okay. I liked the crunchy nuts and the star of this dish was once again the sauce/seasoning rather than the brussel sprouts. With all of these dishes, we ordered enough for two, with a few bites leftover. If you have a smaller appetite, you could get away with ordering a plate less. Overall, I loved the dining experience here. Even though I'm not typically a small plates mediterranean person, I appreciated Sarma - from its beautiful interior space and open kitchen concept, to the liveliness of the restaurant on a random weekday night. Definitely come here if you're in the area (or even if you're not!)

The food was overly salty, and the portions were very small.... even for tapas style dining. The flavor profiles just weren't there. The only thing that I would say tasted good was the cornbread and lamb skewer (which was definitely overpriced still). The cornbread was impressive and the ingredients made for a unique flavor. Service was also underwhelming. While the staff did their job, there wasn't much warmth or attentiveness and we didn't feel welcomed. We left feeling pretty disappointed given the hype and effort it took to get a reservation.

AMBIANCE: There is a calm, intimate energy here that makes it perfect for a celebration. It feels warm, slightly upscale, and very intentional. The kind of place where you can actually enjoy the people you are with, have real conversations, and settle into the experience without feeling rushed. FOOD: We tried a variety of dishes, and everything felt carefully crafted, but the standout for me was the Quail Kebob Lamb and Grape Leaf Tart. That dish was on another level. Melt-in-your-mouth tender, rich in flavor, and balanced in a way that makes you pause and really appreciate what you are eating. You can tell there is real attention to detail in the kitchen. For dessert, they made a special presentation for my mother, milk pudding, chocolate sorbet, and ice cream. It was the perfect ending to the meal, and honestly, seeing everyone at the table smiling made it hit even more. IMPRESSIONS: Oleana delivers more than just great food, it creates moments. Between the standout dishes, the thoughtful service, and the warm atmosphere, this was exactly the kind of place you want for a birthday celebration.
