Chimes is not what it used to be. I don't know if they hired new staff and cooks but the last 3 times I was there, they were rude and the food was burnt. Chimes used to be my favorite place to go with family,friends, everyone but we all agree it's gone extremely down hill. Everyone's favorite the spinach and artichoke dip doesn't even taste the same. Went with a big group in a Friday early evening and got seated immediately...not sure that's a good sign or a harbinger of a deteriorating experience. Some of the waitstaff was friendly, others...seemed inconvenienced that my allergy to some seafoods (shrimp) needed to be acknowledged when she served the plate across my face to attempt to hand to the other side of the table. Quite frankly on a few visits to the table the odd behavior of the wait staff seemed to generate some eyebrow raising comments around the table from my companions. That said, the duck gumbo was spot on, the portions were decent, and the ambience lively. I enjoyed the grilled pork chops but the presentation was elementary. Some of our dishes varied with regards to salt and seasonings. Some of the dishes were perfectly seasoned and cooked; others were cooked well but were too salty. However, staff replaced the extra salty dishes and they were then delicious! Although all of the staff members were very friendly and professional, our waitress, Angel, was excellent! Some friends invited us to Chimes. Walking in the place was larger inside than it looked from the outside. You walk into a room sweating area with tall table seating, booths, an eating area upstairs and a very nice large outdoor patio area that is overlooking a bayou. Goats are on the property as well as the option to canoe. This place has a welcoming and honey vibe. There are lots of waitresses there that are serving you. The staff is super friendly, when you arrive everyone says hello and when you are leaving everyone says thanks for coming and have a great day as you are walking towards the door. The food is so good. And the alcoholic drinks are generous and delicious. Portion sizes are good also. I had grilled fish with sauteed spinach which was good. The salad was very fresh. Oh my goodness! The food was wonderful! I couldn't get a pic of the crawfish fries because we ate them way too fast! The seafood pasta was exactly what I was craving and my hubby didn't leave a crumb of his catfish perdu. I recommend getting a chimes lemonade to drink. Came in last week to enjoy a nice and relaxing lunch, the server assigned to me ruined my entire experience for me. To start off as she approached me with the NASTIEST attitude. To kill time I followed to wash my hands, opened the bathroom door and she was smoking a THC VAPE OPENLY!!!!!!!!! There was a CHILD IN THE OTHER STALL NEXT TO HER!!!!!! Atmosphere for me is everything, and this place has a great vibe. The indoor space is nice, but I absolutely enjoyed the outdoor space. It has ceiling fans for our warm climate and heaters for when we have our cooler weather. Love the outdoor nature scene and the water. Separate from the restaurant is a canoe trail with a very friendly & informative operator. The food at Chimes was great! I throughly enjoyed the blackened alligator. The gator was tender and seasoned just right. The side of sauce was perfectly paired. Our salads were fresh. I'm assuming the dressing is made in house because, I had large chunks of blue cheese (which I love). I seafood pasta was awesome. I only had a bite from my partners plate, but will get on a future visit. I had the Catfish Purdue, which was perfectly seasoned. The drinks were really good too! Not really strong, but tasty if you like sweet drinks (which I do; so I enjoyed). The staff is friendly, efficient, and timely. There are televisions mounted to watch the game (no sound; which I don't really need, but others may deem a problem) & music coming through the speakers. Overall experience was wonderful! I had a good, but not great, meal at the Chimes. I would give it a 3 and 1/2. The service was good. My husband and I split a 1/2 dozen chargrilled oysters. They were pretty dry, they needed more garlic butter. I got a hamburger on a wheat bun with a side salad and macaroni. He got the grilled chicken dinner with grits and a salad. I paid a $2 up charge to go from fries to a salad, and $5 for the extra side. This is expensive! The salad dressing was good, but the salad did not live up to the extra charge. My husband liked the macaroni, but I didn't. It had a strange almost chemical taste to it. My burger was good, cooked to a nice medium. The chicken was good as well, and so were the grits. read more

The young lady who was the designated worker for the takeaway orders was outside flirting with a guy as I walked into the restaurant. I had to wait about 5 minutes for her to come inside as I watched 4 other girls playfully clean the windows, pass a Windex bottle around, and roll napkins. The moment a guy came from the kitchen with a big bag I said to myself, "That must be mine". But, he put the bag on the back counter and talked to the flirty to-go girl as she laughed and twirled her hair. After he walked back into the kitchen she didn't even look at the bag so I sat a bit longer, 12 more minutes to be exact. My first time at The Chimes, and it was all right. The hostess and waiter were patient with the group I was with, sometimes it feels like herding cats with these people. I got the black and Blue burger, and it was good, if a bit dry. It was just regular food, nothing spectacular. For some reason, the wait staff kept bringing us food that we did not order, but were actually for other customers, which was weird. I would think that when they entered orders into the system, whatever table the food belonged to would be entered as well. I don't know, I have never been a member of the wait staff. The wife doesn't really care for the place because it's noisy, but I really enjoy it. The outdoor seating is great and the boardwalk down to the river is really pretty. Grab one of the many craft beers on tap and come on down to the water. If you get lucky, one of the many cats or goats will come up and let you give them a pet or two. Tuesdays are half price oysters all day long; we enjoyed a dozen just last night, along with a cup of soup and gumbo. The food is really tasty here, although I didn't care for the Duck and Sausage gumbo. I can't quite put a taste to it, but it reminded me of a turtle soup with too much sherry. It's quite popular, though, so give it a try and let me know what you think. She had the shrimp and corn soup which is delicious and sweet. The oysters were absolutely yummy; salty, fresh, with a hint of lemon and the spicy cocktail sauce...they almost tasted silky to me, which is EXACTLY how I like them. First, let me say that I've never eaten anything here that I didn't like. And that, despite some of the other reviews, I tend to have zero issues with the service. We first try the upstairs restroom, where we were seated. This restroom was not well lit and not clean...at all. Might want to replace some light bulbs in that one. The stall was occupied, so we proceed downstairs. The stall was also occupied in the first restroom we tried here. Didn't stay in this one long enough to make any observations. THEN...we go to the restroom nearest the bar. WOW...had my 6 yo not been nearing the point of no return on his bladder, we would've taken a hard PASS. Holes in the walls...A 5-year accumulation of dust on the overhead vent...And, I'm no environmental expert, but certainly what appeared to be mold on the ceiling. Absolutely filthy. The entire restroom. A restaurant's restrooms should be an extension of its good service/food. These restrooms wouldn't have been fit for an interstate gas station. Take some pride in your establishment and transform ALL of your restrooms into pleasant atmospheres for folks to do their "business." I will return, and recommend you take a visit as well. Nice atmosphere restaurant that makes you feel you are in cabin in the woods. The restaurant is very big, perhaps too big. The staff seemed to be running everywhere and the food wait was longer than expected. It took us twenty minutes to get our appetizers and we were served our the entree 50 minutes after that. The waitress was very apologetic. The food is a cajun inspired and it's menu reminds you of Copeland. Overall, we enjoy the appetizers (spinach and artichoke dip with fried bow tie). The spinach and artichoke dip excelled over Copelands Restaurant recipe but the fried bow ties fell flat. Our fried food entrees were ok, not exceptional. Definetly we will give it a second chance to see if the food service improves. read more

It was a bit chilly, so they turned on the heaters for us. Then we feasted! We had a half dozen raw and a half dozen charbroiled oysters. Yum! Then we shared the Seafood Gumbo and the Duck and Sausage Gumbo. They were both SO good! Next we got the Crawfish Etouffee, the Seafood Pasta and the Seafood Lasagna. We all agreed that while they were all fantastic, the Seafood Lasagna was the clear winner. Finally, we were talked into the bread pudding, which was killer (and I'm not really a bread pudding fan). Disappointed. Went in for take out lunch. The music and ambient noise was so loud that I couldn't converse with the front desk receptionist. In addition, the staff members were more interested in talking with each other than helping us. We ordered three shrimp poboys. I was so disappointed when opening the boxes because they were about 65% the size we have received in the past. Additionally, everything, including fries, were exceptionally salty. My family frequents Chimes - we like the beer selection, cocktails, and variety of menu options. Today I brought my kids for a quick lunch and, while the service and food were alright, I was extremely disappointed when we received our bill. First, the menu states that adding salmon to a salad costs $9, but I was charged $15. That's a significant difference. I also ordered it medium and it was definitely well-done. The second is that I ordered a kids' cheeseburger for my son but he was brought an adult one. It wasn't until I checked the website that I saw that the kids' menu didn't include that option (we weren't offered one). When I ordered it, our server should have clarified our options instead. All in all, we paid far more than the almost-mediocre meal we received today was actually worth. Unfortunately, we were pressed for time and were unable to get resolution before leaving. They were very busy and this is usually either a good sign or a chain restaurant that I really want no part of. We started at the bar because I had a headache. I told the bartender to make a double Moscow Mule. Certain to rid me of this pesky headache and would kill some time until my friend arrived. We were seated outside on the deck to get me away from the "lively atmosphere" inside. It was loud. A sign that everyone was enjoying themselves even if I was not able to tolerate the noise level at this time. Our server was so patient, honest when I grilled her about various options in the menu. See, I grew up in New Orleans and I'm come from a very long line of chefs and cooks. Ok. I'm very certain about what local food I do and do not like and it's preparation. Enough said... my recommendations: Appetizers, Shrimp with grits, Boudin Balls, crab claws sautéed, oysters grilled and he special, seafood platter and the pleasant surprise Bread Pudding topped with pecan sauce! I'm a bread pudding snob. If I'm gonna put those calories in my body it darn well better be worth it. First let me say, I love Chimes. It is our go-to place for charbroiled oysters, roast beef po-boys, etc. And was one of our two burger joints. Well, we went last week, order charbroiled oyster - which were good as ever - and a hamburger. The waiter let us know it was a "smash" burger. I ordered my usual medium well. What came out was not an 8 oz burger patty, but 2 little patties - similar to what you would get a Burger King. Very disappointing. Two dry 4 oz patties on a bun are not the same as a big juicey half-pound burger. And how they would call these two little patties a smash burger is beyond comprehension. I certainly hope they go back to one 8 oz patty or at least warn people they will be getting 2 Burger King style patties. read more

Came here on an overnight stop in Louisiana as we drove to Texas. The concierge at the hotel we stayed at recommended we try this place out so we did! Less than a mile from our hotel, and there was short wait time for dinner. Covid precautions in effect. Service was great and friendly. Our waitress (I forgot her name, sorry) gave us good recommendations as we had never been here before. Tried some blackened alligator and it was yummy! Tasted like chicken lol.
