For years, Chimes has held a special place as both a personal favorite and a beloved establishment within our community. With its tremendous atmosphere, friendly service, and exceptional food, it has been a go-to destination. However, it is with great disappointment that I must express that our recent visits have not met the same standard we have come to enjoy. My hope that Chimes can return to its roots and not fall into the trap of becoming just another ordinary restaurant. From meeting old friends the night before Thanksgiving, to fantasy football drafts, to cold beers after a hot day of golf - there was a time when Chimes had something truly special, and it would be a shame to see that essence fade away.
The biggest disappointment of the day was the Buffalo wings. They were nothing short of awful. What should have been a flavorful and enjoyable experience turned into a battle with grizzly drums and flats. The lack of tenderness and quality in the wings was a total letdown. Unfortunately, the downward spiral didn't stop here.
During our visit we were very disappointed to see the sweet potato fries were no longer available on the menu. This typically signifies a cost-saving approach by offering fewer choices to the customers. These premium side choices are what use to separate Chimes from all of the other burger and fry joints.
Another major issue was the beer being served at an uncomfortably warm temperature. The lack of attention to detail in maintaining the quality of the beer greatly diminished the overall enjoyment and tarnished the reputation of a place that once boasted an outstanding selection. It's truly disappointing when a venue loses sight of what made it special in the first place.
Chimes has always been known for the best mozzarella sticks in town, and they were once a highlight of every visit. However, the recent change in the mozzarella sticks left much to be desired. While our server clarified that they were now mozzarella balls vs logs, which was understandable, the real issue was the significant reduction in size. Previously, the mozzarella sticks were generously portioned, but now they were barely a third of their former size.
One of Chimes most popular food items is their cheese fries. Unfortunately, even the cheese fries appear to have fallen victim to the impact of budget cuts. From what it appears, these were heavily reduced as well and hardly enough to share with the table.
In a surprising move, Chimes has made the decision to transition to lunch trays and paper, a practice commonly seen at chain restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings and other corporate establishments. I am not sure if this was to "modernized" or simply to reduce cost of dinnerware. Unfortunately, this transition has not been without its drawbacks. The use of paper and trays has, at times, created a nightmare scenario, particularly when it comes to the small portion of cheese fries. It is truly horrific when the entire serving of cheese fries becomes impossibly stuck to the paper and tray.
I understand that my previous comments may make it seem like I complain about everything, but that is not the case. It is important to recognize that these issues regarding Chimes are part of a larger decline in management and overall quality. While I acknowledge that rising costs have impacted many establishments, cutting corners is not the solution. It almost feels as though Chimes has taken on the approach of bringing in an outside firm solely focused on increasing the bottom line, without considering the impact on its customers. My sincere hope is that Chimes can find its way back on track and avoid becoming just another complacent restaurant. read more
