Discover Baton Rouge's Best-Kept Secret: A Hidden Gem Underneath the City…read more Tucked beneath Azteca's Mexican Restaurant and nestled right on the edge of the Mississippi River, this isn't your average dive bar. Since the 1930s, this historic spot has been serving up cheap, strong drinks in a cozy, basement hideaway. It's off the beaten path, and its entrance is a little tricky to find - just the way you want your dive bars to be. Once you do find it, prepare for a throwback to a time when things were simpler: dark hallways lit by a few twinkling Christmas lights, leading you into a dimly lit, welcoming space. The bar is stocked with an impressive selection of scotch, and the staff is as friendly as they come. It's a place where everyone knows your name, and the drinks come strong and cheap. The vibe is laid-back, with darts, a jukebox, and a pool room that's a little too fancy to be considered "divey" -- but hey, that's part of its charm. This is the local hangout, a true haven for Baton Rouge's service industry crowd and anyone who just wants to enjoy a drink in peace, away from the downtown hustle. Oh, and did we mention the drink specials? This place knows how to throw a party: SIN Night on Sundays (yes, it's as fun as it sounds) Ladies Night on Mondays, with FREE drinks for women from 9-11 PM Reverse Happy Hour on Tuesdays, where the drinks get cheaper every hour Bingo Night on Thursdays And, if you're out late, they're the only bar open after 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays! Now, technically, it's a speakeasy post-Covid, but getting in is easy: just scan the QR code on the door, and they'll email you a code to enter. Once you're in, it's like you've entered your own secret spot, away from the crowds. Whether you're a dive bar connoisseur, a fan of strong drinks, or simply looking for an off-the-beaten-path experience, this hidden gem has something for everyone. So, grab your guest pass or--better yet--become a member and make this your new favorite spot in Baton Rouge. You won't regret it.

What I experienced instead was a…read moreplace that felt far more hostile than hospitable--especially for anyone who doesn't fit a narrow social mold. During karaoke, I made a simple, polite request: whether there was any way to sanitize the microphone, as I'm immunocompromised. I didn't demand anything--I adjusted immediately when told no. I followed every instruction given to me throughout the night. Despite that, the tone from staff escalated quickly. I was spoken to abruptly, then more aggressively, and ultimately told to leave while I was still gathering my belongings--with the threat of police involvement if I didn't move fast enough. This was after I had already complied with every request and explained that I'm disabled and physically needed a moment. At no point before that was I disruptive, intoxicated, or behaving inappropriately. I don't drink. I was simply trying to participate in what should have been a communal, low-stakes environment. What stood out most wasn't a single moment--it was the pattern: basic questions treated as problems, calm communication met with hostility, and zero flexibility for someone navigating invisible disability. Accessibility isn't just about ADA checklists. It's about how people are treated when they speak up about their needs. If you're looking for a place that feels open, respectful, and genuinely welcoming, this was not that experience.

This might be my favorite casual meal in Baton Rouge for 2025…read more Since George's closed I havent found a reason to be in this area. It was too painful for me to not be driving here to get jalapeno cheese fries, a burger, and putting a dollar on the wall. But damn, this place has cured me of that sadness. I am disgusted that I had not been here sooner. We arrived during the lunch rush but were able to sit at a high top in the bar. The place is small so you may have to wait. It will be worth it. We started with some cheese curds. I cannot accurately convey how amazing these were. I have no idea what kind of cheese it was, what they did to make it so great, or how ranch added an additional wow. Trust me, get these. They are awesome. The burger, oh the burger. This is likely the best burger I have ever had in BR. If you are a burger fan, you must ad this one to your list. I haven't had every burger in BR but I have had a few. This one is the tops. Great patty, cooked perfectly to order, juicy, and super flavorful. Service was friendly but slightly slow which was likey due to the lunch rush. Parking is under the overpass and a little muddy at times. You will be fine. Come here. You won't be disappointed.

Our server was very polite, however not very attentive and we almost had to seek her out a couple of times. The cheese curds were amazing as always. Unfortunately, I did not care at all for the shrimp tacos. I was a bit disappointed because this is not the experience I have grown to expect.
