Oh my goodness the shrimp and grits. And make sure to get an extra roll with the gumbo. So toasty and buttery.

Went for dinner on a Friday night. Surprised that we were able to get seated right away. Sat near the back. Appetizers; We got boudin balls and spinach artichoke dip. Dinners: oyster poboy, chicken club sandwiches and a pasta dish. Good: boudin balls and spinach art. dip. Bad: oyster poboy. The oysters were undercooked. Ever had semi cooked oysters on a poboy? It's unpleasant. One oyster was basically raw. I probably should have just ordered raw oysters... In all honesty, I don't usually go to Chimes for great food. The picture is the real reason I posted. Someone brought their Poodle and it sat at the table with them. First time I ever saw that. At one point a crowd gathered around the dog- singing along with Journey's 'don't stop believin'. Chimes is still going strong. im glad they are part of our community. Our waitress was spacy and very inefficient but she looked cute as heck. The double Tanquerey and tonic was just a tall Glass of tonic. I detected ZERO gin. Naughty very naughty. The raw oysters looked good and plump but they were not salty at all and were nearly room temp ie NOT COLD as they surely should be. Not my best meal here. Looking for a nice place for lunch after a hot morning of blueberry picking, the Chimes was just what we needed. This location was lovely. Beautiful view of the swamp out the back of the restaurant, varied menu, terrific beer list, food was terrific all around (don't miss the gator appetizer!) and the service was even better. One of our waiters, a skinny young fella whose name escapes me, figured out that I'm a beer nerd, and pointed me to some terrific choices that I had never tried before. read more

Definitely over-priced, but I've come to appreciate that as a part of the Covington area. My hubby and I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat on Lundi Gras, and thankfully it wasn't packed (like previous times I've been here) and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was super sweet and my drink never went empty (it got close at one point and as I looked up to try to flag her down she was already standing in front of me with a new one). We ordered the crawfish mac and cheese, and I got the grilled catfish, and the hubby got the fried catfish special of the day. The crawfish mac & cheese is decadent, and topped with a lot of tails and then baked with extra cheese on top, however, I don't really see it as an appetizer. They serve it in a ramekin and give you a spoon, but if you're with a large group of people everyone might get like a single tail. Seems more like it should be a premium side as opposed to an app... Or maybe make a crawfish cheese dip for an app and just serve it with chips/crackers. It's delicioia, but definitely don't order it as an app if you're with people you don't feel comfortable sharing that closely with. The grilled catfish was like four 3 oz filets grilled and served on top of wilted spinach and topped with a peppery butter sauce. I honestly ordered it because the spinach looked so good from the yelp photos. It also comes with a side salad and side of your choice. I got the port jelly vinaigrette, which they actually toss in your salad for you, so all the lettuce is coated, but if you don't like a ton of dressing ask for it on the side. I also got a stuffed baked potato, which, while delicioua, honestly seemed like something you'd buy from the freezer section of a grocery store and baked, rather than something made in house. The entree also came with one of the most decadent buttery crunchy French rolls I'd ever had... I wish they'd pull and Outback and give you free bread when you say down because that would be a killing. My husband loved his dish, which was rice to]ed with a medium-sized slice of fried catfish, and topped with 5 BBQ shrimp and BBQ sauce (NOLA BBQ sauce which is actually more liked butter). Our only little issue was when the waitress forgot to bill us for happy hour beers vs. Regular priced ones, but she corrected it when we addressed it! read more

I really enjoyed my visit. The bar is very well stocked. I love the large selection of draught beer. The bloody mary was not my favorite though. The food was great. I really liked that they had a healthier option sandwich (with some minor adjustments) and it was delicious. That was the T bird. The scenery is great. Eventually all of the waitresses started to recognize him and remember what he likes to order, which is pretty cute. The Chimes isn't a fancy place, it's the type of place you go to if you want to have a drink with friends or watch sports. I've been there enough times and tried a good amount of the food on the menu; at this point I think it's fair to say that the food is hit or miss with certain items. I wouldn't recommend any of the entrees but I think that all of the appetizers are pretty good especially the chicken wings (I like to get them extra crispy), the mozzarella sticks (with gravy), and the hush puppies. Also, happy hour is from 4-7 everyday and features half priced oysters, which means each dozen would be $6.50. Oysters are huge! I even have trouble finishing a dozen by myself if I'm also eating hush puppies. read more

The Chimes is one of my favorite places on the Northshore. If I were to build a restaurant, it would resemble this place. They have the best beer selection on the Northshore, and one of the best in the entire state. It also has an incredible deck and view plus the food is pretty good. The Bar The bar is a great place to drink a few beers or watch sports with friends. The bartenders are mostly very friendly, and very knowledgeable about beer. It can get very crowded so finding a seat may be difficult, especially on weekends. The crowd does make for great people watching though as it is very diverse and ranges in age from 21-90. If you do get a chance to get a seat, try and sit on the corner as the bar curves towards the windows. Those seats are where a buddy and I used to always sit and laugh at the randos trying to look cool. The Restaurant The restaurant has improved significantly since they first opened. Service is generally better and the food is pretty good. You can go wrong with the bacon wrapped shrimp, burgers, steaks or the seafood. If you like oysters, they have a separate oyster charbroiling area where they cook them up to order. I've never tried them, but they do look good. Now that I am thinking about it, I haven't had a bad meal here in a really long time. It's making me hungry just thinking about their food. So if they are so awesome, why only five stars? The Chimes is a victim of their own awesomeness. They are so popular that it is constantly packed. Even during off times, there is likely to be a wait. Come on a weekend and you may not be able to get a parking spot. Their parking lot is so massive that seems almost impossible, but trust me, it has happened to me several times. If you're on the Northshore and want a great place that is John LH approved, look no further than The Chimes. read more

A great place to watch a game or to drink beer! This Covington establishment has boat loads of beer! (50+ on tap and 125+ bottled beers). I can only imagine what their walk-in cooler looks like to store all their backup kegs and beer bottles :) If you are wanting to drink beer come to Chimes. If you want to learn about beer come to Chimes. I am a beer drinker at heart and really love coming here. Actually came here yesterday and the lady and I went there just to drink. We had 6 different beers during that hour we were there. We tried some new beers (can't remember what they were as we got recommendations from the bartender). All of the beers were fresh and delicious. The service is typical for a restaurant that is more focused on sports and beer than food. The servers are all young which normally means not much experience. So from time to time you do get a server who is just not attentive enough or quite as efficient as you would like. The food is the usual food offerings you would find at most restaurants in NOLA. Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice, Po-Boys, and Seafood Platters. The food is pretty good but nothing stellar. Anyway, I am a fan of casual fun places that cater to sports and beer. So I will continue to come here. Plus the outdoor deck in back is awesome! Great views of the river. read more

Best New Year Ever! Soul Revival was awesome! Ok ya'll, I took off a star because I'm an LSU grad (graduate school and undergraduate and NO I won't tell you what year. Suffice it to say it was a LONG time ago). Anywho, I am reserving my five stars for the original Chimes in Baton Rouge off LSU's campus. I'm such a damned purist that I refused to even go to the other location in Baton Rouge because quite frankly, it wouldn't be the same. Needless to say I was dragged to this location with very low expectations since I was around when the Chimes was just a hole in the wall that you had to go inside, pretend you were going to the bathroom, scope the joint, and pray that your friends were in there so you could snag a chair with them or else you were screwed. Yeah, it was THAT big of a deal! In fact, I even have my name on a plaque somewhere in the original onen that shows that I went "Around the World" and tried a plethora of different beers (which is quite an accomplishment since I'm not a beer drinker and used to order pints of cider on tap. Not only was there so many beers and ciders on tap, the food was damned good too! Well, back to this review. Picture it, NYE and I'm at the Northshore with three other girlfriends and a girlfriend's Dad to hear Soul Revival. I'm skeptical because I know this will not measure up to my original Chimes experience. Plus it was night time so I didn't get to see the beautiful outdoor patio with the scenic woods around. Well, somehow I got princess parking (parked in the to go area, worried a teeny bit that I may get towed but oh well, my girlfriends were determined and said they would pay me if it was towed!). Plus, we had a Dad holding our table and we were ready to have some fun! We had all eaten but I had to try some of my favorite dishes. I had a side order of red beans and rice and a stuffed baked potato. Well, let me tell you, they were DELICIOUS! IOk, mea culpa, I was wrong, it is just as good as the original. Plus it's huge with two floors, a sweeping staircase. Wow, the Northshore does things big, I see! Plus the waitress, heaven forbid that I had forgotten her name but she was a doll! I think it was Emily but I told the manager Trent how amazing she was! She was attentive even though it was packed in there. She kept our drinks filled and the service was seamless. I was impressed. She even kept the drinks going when my beloved LSU lost the darned game. AUGH! Fortunately the band started up and Soul Revival rocked! My girlfriends and I started the dancing and got on the dance floor! We stayed pretty much dancing the whole night and rang in the new year with the waitstaff handing out colorful plastic champagne glasses with champagne!! One of the best New Year's Eve I've spent in a really long time! Of course it helps it was with girlfriends that are dear to my heart, delicious food in my stomach, and melodious music around! Reading the previous reviews about not being able to group more than one table, supposedly from the company policies, is a reason my group that has frequented them before, will not make a return visit. We have always had tables to accommodate 10 to 12, but this day, a new Manager, with no hair and a beard, was in attendance, would not let us move (1) 4 chair table next to our group. A lame excuse of the Fire Department laid out the rules, but ironically there was a group table "indoors", larger than ours, and we were outdoors? And to boot, there were no other patrons in our area, I don't get it because I directed a group to the restaurant, which they visited the Friday before, and they had 15 in the group and were put upstairs and they moved tables together for them. Oh well, there are MANY good restaurants in the Covington area that are happy to serve us in the future. A good note: The little Waitress that served us was GREAT, and we returned the favor with a very nice tip!! She apologized to me for the inconvenience. I have to say, the food was good!! Not happy. Waited over 5 minutes before me and my husband were even acknowledged. Yet, the tables around us were bused and wiped before anyone came to our table. Not a hello-has anyone helped you. Food came out before my drink and my order was missing an item and with an item I asked not to have. When I informed the person who brought my food, she said she would tell our waitress, but she just walked into the back when my server was near the bar. Horrible customer service, we have been waiting over an hour and a half and still have not been seated but they are steady letting other people go in ahead of our party. The waitresses have just been standing around playing on their phones the entire time. Never coming back here again. Do not waste your money! Ended up waiting 3 and a half hours they finally sat us after they closed. We had to sit outside got eaten by bugs and was sweating the whole time. After waiting longer than 45 minutes went to hostess to ask how much longer and to make sure she had the right cell phone number. Was told that my name or phone number wasn't put down. Said they could put it down again to wait another 45 minutes. Very poor customer service. The manager was very unprofessional and not accommodating at all. Food is horrible at this location. The outdoor area is very nice. The bathrooms are filthy. Chimes was a long time favorite but it has gone way down hill. I do not recommend this restaurant. We got a Togo order and it was awful. We had to throw our hamburger bun away because it was saturated with grease. Meat was flavorless. They forgot to put salad dressing in the box and they put the salad in a bag with hot food so it was soggy. $50 later and I'm digging in my fridge trying to salvage this food. read more

I had the New Orleans style bbq shrimp and grits and I was not impressed . My grits were the same as the ones in the shrimp and grits , no Tasso in mine. The shrimp and grits were okay. The New Orleans BBQ shrimp were VERY SALTY! Chargrill oysters were bland, chicken pasta dish was bland. Grill cheese is made with shredded cheese and not your kid grill cheese . Kids said fries tasted like 'Lady bugs' smell. Grilled salmon salad was just salmon , lettuce and tomatoes , nothing special . Club sandwich looked really good. Onion rings were good. I've never had a bad experience. I've had a different server every single time and they have all been amazing! Food is beyond good! And it's always such a positive feel to the place.
