We are quite used to being discriminated against for presenting a challenge during appointments with simply having the kind of hair we do, and have a horror story or maybe five about treatment issued to us in salons. I found Rori on naturallycurly.com. She had excellent reviews, and it had been a year since my last big girl hair cut, or one that was not in a family friend's basement. I decided to give it a chance, since my waist length curls were collapsing under their own weight and I had no spring. Rori turned out to be one of the coolest people I have ever had the fortune of meeting. But her being an incredible, beautiful, down to earth zen goddess who makes you feel like you are in her home from the tea to the music, still isn't what makes this place get five stars. She made my hair look like Botticelli painted it. Not only did she listen to what I was asking for, she intuitively knew how far to take it, approached my hair like an artist by focusing on the overall flow of the haircut, and wanted to coax the romance out of it into the haircut. Even if I didn't specify anything, she would have already understood. She cut my hair wet and then once more after she'd diffused it dry to tailor the curls to frame my face. She went step by step on everything she was doing, explaining steps for care and maintenance without once making me feel like my hair was anything but a treasure. And when it came time to pay, she did not push forty products at me and and sneer when I didn't opt in, like most places. She did tell me the name of the mousse and leave in conditioner she used and told me she bet I could find it somewhere cheaper (!). I left with a head full of spring glory, not believing my luck. If you have curly hair, you are safe in the hands of this amazing woman. I'm sure the same goes for every other type of hair too. Book now for springy glory.

The ladies at reception couldn't have been more welcoming and Sam was right on time. I love his it!!! and I will definitely be a regular customer of Sam's and salon 833.

I like that the salon seems to Claire a multicultural clientele. I came to see Doni (@hairsmittenbysmith) and she is great. Why not do something new and fun for a bit? My hair is long but I would love to have waist length hair. This nondescript salon is super easy to get to if you use CTA! Just take about any line and hop off at the Washington Street stop. You can park here, since there are garages all over the place and there's street parking I'd you're lucky. Right outside the building on Wabash there's Macy's valet and another valet across the street directly in front of the Garland building. I love that it's so close to my workplace so I may have to pop in for a bit if style help on my lunch break!

She gave me exactly what I asked her for. I use to go to a great salon on Belmont and Southport from 2009 to 2016 but I moved to the Southloop and had my 1st baby and the location was just super inconvenient for me. Since I have been trying places but was either - no way or I will give them another try and was always disappointed. Everything was perfect with Laura - color, cut, service, hospitality and price. Laura you will see me in 3 months! Thank you again for my wonderful experience today! I put a pick of the after result (I don't have unfortunately a before) and I love it. The pic was taken 6 hours after my appointment after work, playing with my kiddos and it still looks great.

THE BEST CUT, COLOR, AND BALAYAGE…read more I think they advertise more as a cut place but they are EXPERTS at coloring too so don't be deceived. I've been in this neighborhood for over 10 years and hair tech hands down does the best cut, color, and balayage. I get my cuts done with Grace or Gloria (the owner). After recommending Hair Tech to my friend, she now is a repeat customer too and she lives an hour away lol!! Last time I saw her, she got a crazy intricate Audrey Hepburn inspired bob cut with a million layers that took over an hour and only paid $15. The guy treated her hair like it was the tower of Pisa itself. I was hesitant to do a balayage because I have colored my hair a million times at home and other salons in my neighborhood and after shelling over $200 for a balayage elsewhere I didn't feel like it was worth it so I just didn't do anything to it for a year. I was on the fence between balayage and highlights, or doing nothing at all. I feel like colorists always try to do away the "brass" and get the blondes as BLONDE aka COOL as possible. I am not pale.. that doesn't look good on me.. So Gloria's work was SO worth it... she did exactly what I wanted, a HONEY Beyoncé/jlo blonde, EXCEPT her balayage is so nice and intricate it could pass for highlights because it looks so expensive unlike other colorists that do big chunks. I actually didn't want balayage or highlights before coming here, because highlights are too strippy and can look too mature on me contrasted with my dark asian hair, but balayage can be too blocky and look like a single processed color or ombré anyway. Gloria's work looks like a seamless blend of balayage and highlights, so this is perfect!!! I am mostly "blonde" (like a Beyonce one color) with the shimmery blends of different golden locks, the colored strips are super fine closer to my crown to the bottom my ears like highlights under close inspection, but blends in perfectly throughout the bottom as a balayage. GLORIA HITTING ALL THE NOTES WITHOUT ME EVEN ASKING. I was just gonna let her do her job because I wasn't sure what I wanted. AND for half the price the other salon cost me. You know how sometimes even when things are done right you have hair remorse until you get used to your new hair? I never feel like that here, I feel like wow I need to go out right now with this hair!!! I definitely left feeling so pretty. Ps. All the staff are super friendly and feel like family. Gloria is very funny and fun to talk to, but won't if you don't want to. She doesn't ask you a million questions about yourself like other stylists. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to kick back and chill. They just do their job, are punctual and professional, get the job done and EXCEL for better prices than anywhere in Chicago. The other salons don't even come close. Thanks Grace and Gloria!!
