Not what you'd expect. We had been meaning to check this place out and really loved the branding and website. It screamed that this was a fresh, upscale cocktail lounge feel with a nice but simple menu. Cool! What we were greeted with was much more like a sports bar. It's confusing: it's like they settled on brand and menu then hastily (and low budget) finished the interior. The cocktails were SUPERB. The food was really tasty, but everything was served in paper boats?! Like the kind you get a $1 hot dog in. At one point we ran out of places to put our food and so I asked for plates or boats and was presented with boats which furthered my theory that they don't own plates. It was so weird. The foods really good. Cocktails are too.. And we'll be back. It is Priced higher end and if they improved the interior, the atmosphere would warrant a higher price point. read more

I've lived in grosse pointe my entire life. The Charlevoix is the best restaurant to come to this area that I've ever seen. Who knew comfort foods could take you out of your comfort zone? Not I, but I'm obsessed. I get carry out/dine in every week and I'm still not bored of it!!!! Items I eat weekly: hot hot heat (spicy marg), salt and vinegar wings, buttermilk chicken mini. This is our go-to local restaurant when we want to have a great dinner out in a casual, fun atmosphere with delicious food & drinks. The prices are reasonable for the quality of what I'd call elevated bar food. For example, our favorites are the sliders, the chicken sandwich, and the fish tacos. Sounds simple but the flavors are amazing. We've never been disappointed. read more

The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. I recommend going during happy hour to get a deal on some grub and some drinks. We are new to GP & ordered takeout from here for the first time. We ordered the shrimp po-boy & Italian beef po-boy. Both were excellent!! I'm usually very hesitant ordering seafood (especially anything NOLA inspired) since I'm from Louisiana. I gave it a chance & the shrimp po-boy did not disappoint!! I would order it again in a heartbeat! My husband feels the same about the Italian beef po-boy..would order again! FYI, it's spicy hot!! Can't wait to try other items on the menu!! read more

My boyfriend and I were in the neighborhood and decided to stop by this gem! It feels more like a bar rather than restaurant but man did the food blow us away! My boyfriend is a vegetarian and we felt they have a good variety of food he could eat. If you go get the carrot tostada it will blow you away! Come to Charlevoix for the po' boys, they are out of this world! I had the shrimp po' boy and it was a massive sandwich with crisp iceberg lettuce, tomato, delicious fresh fried shrimp, hot sauce and mayo. The shrimp was amazing! It's served with a bag of unassuming Lay's BBQ chips but it really hits the spot and is actually the perfect pair. My friend ordered the perch po' boy which our server recommended as her favorite. I would also highly recommend the carrot tostadas. The carrots are cooked perfectly tender and the flavors of pecorino romano, za'atar spice, and a creamy Middle Eastern cream cheese were phenomenal. The menu here is small with only tacos, wings, po' boys, and a few appetizers but from everything I tried, they knocked it out of the park. They're going to introduce a few new summer items too like a bahn-mi sandwich. The only item my friend said that she didn't really care for was the salt and pepper shrimp because it's the whole shrimp in tact, head, eyes, everything. Our server said people either love it or hate it. The drinks were very tasty. My friend got the Hot Hot Heat, with blood orange liqueur, jalapeño infused tequila, cilantro, lime, and hot sauce. It was very tasty albeit very spicy as the name implies. I had the El Padrone, with mezcal, vermouth, and a strawberry-peppercorn campari and it was very good. Service was excellent. We were waited on quickly and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The manager came over to check on us too. Their kitchen is open late and they have free street parking and a private lot. They're pretty close to Atwater in the Park and Lost River. The spot is unassuming and has an art scene meets bar feel with cool paintings on their walls and a colorful mural on one wall. It's a neighborhood bar feel with elevated delicious bar food and tasty craft cocktails and beer. Definitely check out this unassuming spot. You won't be sorry. read more

Tried this for the first time today! Drinks are made very well and the food is delicious. I ordered a margarita and an old fashioned for happy hour. Along with the drinks I got the chicken sandwich (which the bartender told me "is like life") and the cracklins. Both very good but for one person there were so much cracklins! If you build it they will come! Walk by not 1, not 2, but 3 empty dive bars that have NOBODY in them, then you arrive at The Charlevoix and it's poppin! Not a seat in the house. Why? Because it's good, really good. The owners work there and they are super nice, great cocktails great food, and it's decent ambiance. As new GP-ers from out of state it seems obvious but the area craves a bar/restaurant that's not only for people over 60 that have money hanging out the anus or surly unsocial drunks looking for a fight. Food was just ok. My friend didn't like the fries so he asked the waiter to take it off the bill because he literally took one bite. The waiter went and got the manager. The manager came out and said ya ill take the fries back but you're still paying for them. Technically ya he didn't need to take it off the bill but my personal opinion is that it was very rude. Definitely lost my business for life. I will also tell me friends not to eat here and support a business that treats customers in this way. Wowsers! These folks really hit it outa the park. Charlevoix near Alter is rapidly becoming the next HOT area in the Pointes. Venerable Park Place Liquor brothers, Sonny & Neil have expanded their establishment into a great place for not only liquor, beer, & wine, but delish prepared foods to take out & a nice humidor to boot. Classy. O'Flaherty's & Ye Olde Tap Room still going strong. Howlers & Growlers has fab rotating taps & a growing food menu. Now, the latest newcomers have REALLY made their mark right outa the gate. Sort of a "small plates" PLUS kinda place & EVERYTHING we tried on the menu was fantastic. Daughter's Carrot Tostada & Pulled Chicken Taco we're light & heavenly. I love collard greens prepared any way & flipped over the Collards & Coconut salad. Shredded greens with a light, well-balanced vinaigrette dressing. So good even my wife, whose not a greens fan at all, loved the salad. Her Perch Po'boy, served on rolls imported from N'awlins for authenticity, was outstanding. I also had wings which were good. We really liked the light potato starch dredge for the perch & wings. Nice selection of beer - tap & bottled, plus interesting cocktails, which we'll sample next time. Priced very reasonably, and the lovely Zeena is a truly professional server, who represents this great new spot exceptionally well. We might just stop by weekly. Do. Not. Miss. This. Great. AMAZING! I'm the type of person who's not easily pleased, but damn! The Charlevoix exceeded my expectations. I wandered in on a Thursday night with a couple of friends with a very curious taste buds for cocktails, po boys sandwich and wings.  When I walked in I was immediately greeted with friendly smiles.  We were lucky to arrive on time because the place was nearly packed. The ambiance was chill with good music, that goes along with their trendy paintings and decors.    TRADITIONAL DRINKS: My first order was their bloody mary. It was served very quickly and neatly.  They had a variety of hotsauces available with Louisiana Cajun to Mexico's finest. Bar tender made my bloody mary served with bacon and a meat stick. I ate the bacon immediately of course.   FOOD: I followed with up their Salt & Pepper Shrimp. They were JUMBO shrimps served with mint, cilantro, jalapeno, peppercorn, and smoked mayo.  Growing up Asian I was use to peeling the skin and pulling the heads of the deep fried shrimps. However, in this case, because the shrimps mixture with salt+pepper and mint, I left no scraps. Out of my years growing up Asian, I never really ate the whole shrimp because in most places their the skin and head is all elastic and difficult to chew. With The Charlevoix, the way the chef cooked it, the skin and head were crunchy and easy to chew! No surprise, I ordered the next shrimp item on the menu. Their Shrimp Po'Boy was absolutely delicious, shrimps weren't the jumbo ones I had earlier, but it was perfect because every bite had at least 2-3 shrimp full. Absolutely delicious. Of course, you can't leave a bar without trying their chicken wings.  As a big fan of Chicken Wings I ordered their Salt and Vinegar Chicken Wings. The salt was perfectly caramelized on the skin, and the excess salt on the plate was perfect for that extra rub after my first bite. I warn you if you're a fan of wings, this is the next addicting thing to Lemon Pepper Wings.   COCKTAILS/SHOTS: Lemon drop shots were delicious and refreshing. The lemonade were made fresh, similar to how my mom use to make on a Sunday summer afternoon. Interesting. Lastly, I thought I would try their "Nip and Tuck" Drink because our waitress Kat recommended it. She wasn't wrong about it. It's hard to describe the taste but it was this delicious, wintery, nutty flavor, with coffee. Great mix overall.     ENVIRONMENT: Staff and bartenders were impressionable and friendly. I even requested to talk to the chef, Brandon, to compliment him on the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. Overall great place have a few drinks and dine. Brings the taste of Louisiana Po'Boys locally. Chef Brandon mentioned that they actually get their bread shipped directly from Louisiana.  5/5 stars! read more

Everything was amazing. The food and drinks were so good. You can tell everything they put on the menu had thought put into it. Everything was fresh, crispy and delish. Catfish bites were spicy but flavorful and wings were spicy as well but SO much flavor. Service was also great! Super a wonderful spot to get lunch/dinner/happy hour. Went for a little quick drink and some food. Food flavoring was excellent and drinks were strong. Only needed two lol. I got the PoBoy Italian beef which was excellent. My partner got the chicken sandwich and we split some wings. The spicy wings had excellent flavor. Not too hot that it was unbearable but also had enough heat to let you know it was there. We enjoyed the flavors of the carnita taco, pulled chicken taco, and spam fried rice. Eclectic menu for sure, but it all seems to work well. Efficient and attentive service too. We went here for the first time after hearing about its great atmosphere and added spark to the area. The drinks came out fast, the waiter was excellent. I only wish that the chairs were more comfortable so we could have relaxed and enjoyed our time. Atmosphere: Cozy but spartan. Allowed for small group setting, but also a large bar for the small space. Food: everything ordered: the po'boy, wings, corned beef fried rice, and a taco were all above average and surprisingly good. Well this was a pleasant surprise. Stopped in here on a whim. Felt a little underwhelmed by the menu...wait for it...DELICIOUS! My husband had the special po-boy (beef, melted cheese, 1000 island). Wow! I had the chicken taco and carnitas taco--which were great. But I still wanted to eat his whole po-boy ;) Biggest drawback...the lighting :( I felt like I was in an East German beer hall! Trust me, you're going to be a regular. The Carrot Tostada is a staple, it knocks off socks. Menu is creative, evolves all year long, and executed with consistent deliciousness.
