Here is the lay of the land: Check in at the little red table in the center of the outdoor courtyard if you want "full service". - which means eating and drinking at a table with wait staff. It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. Additionally, there is a photo booth for pics (long line) and Warda Patisserie is right next door and accessible through a garden walkway.

For food, I was craving a burger but I visited on the wrong day. I chose the Thai style wings and a carne asada taco. Wings - the wings were decent but I got tired of eating them after the first 2. The thai peppers that it came with were not very spicy at all. The meat was also a little challenging to get off the bones for some reason. Taco - I enjoyed this better than the wings, even though this was smaller. Service was decent but not perfect. I was already ready to leave and then they asked if I wanted another drink. They were about 5 mins late since the bar area wasn't actively manned during a majority of my visit.

I never knew about the canal district of Detroit, but the vibe feels like a vacation in Florida instead of the middle of the Midwest. All of our food tastes so fresh, and I loved the additions of things like edible flowers on the yogurt that we had with our parfaits. My companion was disappointed in the overly-salted Pork Kapow dish he had ordered as well. We did agree however, the Chocolate Tahini Brownie was interesting, fudge-like in texture, and something to try for chocolate-lovers. Maybe it was an off day for the chef, and maybe the beverage manager left the wine opened for too long, but our experience was less than stellar today. One of the workers was kind enough to give me and my Yelp BFF the lay of the land. He shared that Flyleaf was hosting a Boy Band event with great music playing and lots of patrons taking advantage of their Sunday Brunch offerings. It was very festive and standing room only at the moment. They host various theme events every month. Although I have included the menu, their food offerings change too. They had a great book selection. I was impressed that they had four books featured that I recently purchased. She was so nice on the phone when we called to see if the joint was open, and how late it would be open. Our plan was to visit a few different places, but we just stayed here until close.
