Friday night was a huge disappointment. Drinks took an extremely long time to arrive after ordering, and when they finally did, my spicy watermelon margarita was wrong--twice. The first time it came out as a spicy peach margarita, and the second time it was just a plain watermelon margarita. Waiting a long time each time it had to be remade. We chose to sit outdoors, but the moment our food arrived we were completely swarmed by flies. It made the entire meal unenjoyable, and we definitely would not have sat outside had we known that would be the case. To make things worse, our meals were dropped off without silverware, and we sat there for about 5 minutes with no staff in sight to help. We used to come to the cantina often, but after not visiting for a few months, it's clear things have changed. The white fish recipe is different and not nearly as good as it used to be. Unfortunately, this experience was enough for us. We will not be coming back. read more

Overall the food was good, service was excellent and the tv and music not too loud. Seafood enchiladas were good, but the star was the refried beans. The birria enchiladas were also good but I wouldn't recommend the green sauce. It was sour and bitter and I scraped it off. This may be so if the sauce is made in home with tomatillos or with vinegar added. I don't know, and didn't ask; you can make up your own minds. Brent thank you for a great experience!!!! Everyone here was such a kind soul and took care of us well! Came out to Arizona for a friends trip and came here for a quick Mexican lunch and it was great! Food took a bit to come out but that was totally fine because Brent made sure we got our chips and salsa. We ended up having like 5 baskets of chips so thank you for that! I ordered the Surf and Turf burrito and it was delicious. It was not too heavy and had great flavor. I personally did not use the Chipotle Mayo sauce that comes with it but I bet it would've tasted great. It is a smaller area but makes the place feel cozier and more welcoming. We had a really great experience here. The ambiance is very inviting and cozy! We tried so many different dishes on the menu and I have to say that the fish tacos were sooooooooooo good!!! The Birria tacos were extremely flavorful as well and so delicious!!! I got the steak fajitas and it's crazy to say but I'm happy they use THICK CUTS of steak! It's actually steak. Now, for dessert we tried all 4 desserts! They were ALL AMAZING! The churro waffles were so crispy and warm with melted gelato on top! The lemon cake was so bright and airy we enjoyed it so much! The creme brûlée was delicious with a hint of cinnamon, my only critique is that it was cold and not warm. The tres leches cheesecake cake was part cheesecake and part fluffy cake! Soooooo good! Honestly everything we had was so enjoyable. The only mishap in our experience and service was that the ceviche tasted like water and had NO FLAVOR. Decided to try Cantina for dinner last night and I have to say the overall experience was extremely underwhelming and lacked the polish I expected from its location. I called to place a to go order and the first thing the female employee told me was that they are closing soon. Her tone felt put out to have to take my order. It was 40 minutes to closing time and i was already on my way there, I didn't anticipate a problem ordering. When she started to take my order I had to stop because of the high pitch noise coming from her end of the phone. I ask what the noise was and she giggled and said they are vacuuming right by her and that they were almost done. Eventually they shut off the vacuum and i was able to order. It felt as if the server was occupied elsewhere as there were many times that she would pause and not respond to something that I ordered and I would have to say, "are you there?" and then eventually get a response. Nonetheless, I finished my order she repeated it correctly and we hung up. Upon arriving at the restaurant it was totally different than what I imagined. It feels like a fast casual restaurant where I should order up at the register and pick my own table. The black holders on the table lack elevation and were a big eye sore I couldn't stop looking at. When I walked in there was at least 4 employees in the front of house. They were chatting and casually doing side work. Not one of them welcomed me in or acknowledged me. I walked up to the register and the server there had my boxes of food and still without greeting me opens the boxes and showed me the food. It looked good and she packaged it up. There were no chips and salsa so I ask for those and happily packaged up a really nice size portion and bagged it up for me. It's important to highlight the lack of service in the restaurant. The servers seemed more into their own conversations than helping the guest. The bar and front register area were a wreck, and overall just didn't feel inviting. Then there was the part that was alarming from a health standard. At least three of the servers were chewing gum, let me rephrase that, chomping on gum- opened mouth and totally unacceptable for a restaurant staff member. I also in my short time in the restaurant observe two servers grab plates going out to customers with their thumb in the dish. It made me question the sanitary condition of my food. The only thing that put me at ease with that was that from where I was at I could see into the kitchen and the guys working in there seemed to have a good handle on the food they were working with seemed to be working well together. Not once did I feel the presence of any front of house leadership, and the lack of customer engagement showed that. I ordered the cheese enchiladas for my Dad which he really liked. I ordered them without the black beans and corn inside because he wanted traditional cheese enchiladas and those are a bit too Texmex for him. I had the chicken and steak combo fajitas. The chicken and veggies were good. The steak was cut really large, was tough and after trying two pieces I pushed the remaining off to the side and didnt eat. The rice and beans were good and it came with plenty flour tortillas. I don't think it's a total loss cause, but I think that the leadership in the restaurant need to urgently work on Elevating the areas mentioned and probably need to spend more time on the floor demonstrating and coaching to a hyper focused guest experience that hits all areas of the restaurant. I'd be open to trying it out again and might even try dining in, I just hope that there would be noticeable changes in the overall environment in the restaurant during that visit. read more

A Nice and Relaxing Dinner Last night we had dinner at The Cantina for the first time and the food and service was very good. On this visit my sister, friends and I shared the fish tacos, carne asada burrito, beans, rice, and chips & salsa. The chips and salsa were served fresh and hot. The chips were light and crispy and the salsa was full of amazing flavor, the perfect strat to a great dining expeirence. The food at Cantina is just delicious. The Fish Tacos were served are Flour Tortillas, Beer Battered Cod, Cabbage, Cotija, Pico, Chipotle Crema and they were were flavorful and delicious. My sister had the Carne Asada Burro Classico, and she said it was packed with Pinto Beans, Pico de Gallo served with rice and beans. She said everything was good to the last bite. I stopped by here this a couple of Wednesday nights ago with my wife for dinner. The Cantina was actually the closest restaurant to where we staying for the week and since we wanted something soon, it seemed to make the most sense. So we called them to place an order which the super nice lady on the phone said would be ready in 25 minutes. We ended up getting there about 30 minutes later and my wife sat in the car while I went inside to pick it up. This restaurant is located inside the Presidio and due to COVID-19 measures, anyone who was entering the building had to get their temperature taken. Once I made it past that I was quickly at The Cantina. This restaurant is Mexican themed and from what I could see of it had a small area to pay and then some tables inside. Due to the number of people coming in from the outside, I would guess that they have outdoor seating as well but I was unable to see it. In any case our food was ready whenever I got there and since we had paid by telephone all that I had to do was sign a receipt and I was on my way. For dinner on this evening I had ordered the "da changa" which the menu described as a large tortilla stuffed with carne asada, pollo asada, pinto beans and cheese, deep fried with green and red enchilada sauces and guacamole, crema and pico. Then my wife went with the shrimp burrito. All of the entrees were served with Spanish rice and refried beans. My changa ended up being pretty good and I enjoyed both of the asadas in it as well as both enchilada sauces. What I didn't like was that there were a ton of pinto beans and I could only really tell the tortilla was fried on one corner. Still, I enjoyed it and it left me absolutely stuffed. My wife also enjoyed her burrito and couldn't eat all of it. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. We've not been to the Cantina in many months and had looked forward to it! The setting was as beautiful and serene as always, and our server, Jackie, was the best! Now if the rest of our experience matched those two things......drinks were okay, kind of sweet, no tequila taste and very expensive. My quesadilla was so underdone that it was sitting in a steamy puddle of water. Had to look hard for the chicken in it after I wiped off the soggy tortilla. Pico served with it was good but barely 2 tablespoons of it! Enchilada was tasty, according to my husband, but so so so small! The beef Ramen left something to be desired. It was full of birria-great!-but little else. It needed more mexican flavor and perhaps a ramen egg? I have to say we left disappointed. I, like many others, have made many attempts to support this community but it is beyond clear this restaurant has a management problem. The poor service, verbal confrontation and accosting from Connie along with finding hair nets in the food are met with sarcasm, colored hair flipping about as the waitresses turn away and end conversation mid stream are unreasonable. The larger issue, each and every time (4) we have frequented the Cantina we have had an excuse as to why the kitchen is backed up, they didn't expect the traffic etc etc. it's not your job to make excuses, it's your job to overcome the obstacles that make the experience painful. It will take one restaurant with half decent service to put this atrocity in the dirt. The entire English language doesn't posses the ability to quantify the disappointment the 16 of us have experienced. I'm done, as are the multitudes of residents within our social circle. The Diablo tacos are great! Although I prefer how the used to make them before. They were corn tortillas and were toasted with the sauce. Very tasty that way. The nachos are good but can use more protein. The fiesta salad is great. Burgers are pretty good. Pricing is a bit high, especially when adding protein, and I've noticed that portions are sometimes smaller. The service is a hit and miss. Alex, Brittany, Jackie, Grace and about two others are awesome every time! The ambiance is great for family, friends or date night! read more
