We have came here a few times since our first visit and every time we have absolutely loved our food and service, for dinner or brunch this place is so wonderful. My picky 1.5 year old loved his food so much he even licked his plate when he was done. The business is under new owners with a new menu. They have just opened, and have some kinks to work out. Service was great with our waitress, but there were just 2 waitresses and the place was pretty busy at lunchtime. I'm hoping in time, that they consider doing some lunch specials. That would be my only "complaint". We have very few sit down places for lunch in Old Town, but it was almost $50 for 2 meals and 2 sodas, as they were dinner portions. Bella our waitress was very nice. The tacos dorados were excellent and highly recommend if you like crispy tacos. Had a side of guacamole which was pretty well made and the habanero salsa is the best but be careful, a little goes a long way. Now for the drinks, not to my liking. The 4 star rating is only because the morning breakfast crowd ate all of the menudo; otherwise a 5 star is warranted. My party of 2 arrived near noon but breakfast was still being served. We ordered potato taquitos appetizer which is served with guacamole on a bed of lettuce. Tasty but I would prefer more seasoning on the potatoes. My wife had the pozole with beef And served with corn or flour tortillas. Beware: the soup is served in a huge bowl. The broth is a bit spicy and very flavorful. The meat was flavorful and tender and they didn't skimp on the amount given. I had beef chilaquiles with green salsa and 2 eggs. The steak was a good sized portion and perfectly cooked for my taste. The flavor was wonderful. The service was great; our server was friendly and attentive. We also spoke to the owners who were very friendly and gave us a brief history of the restaurant. The ambiance is what I would describe as rustic with a large open space for seating and I high ceiling. There is also a bar for those who want to have a drink as you wait for your table. Food was horrible. Salsa had no flavor and the chips had a weird taste. They messed up our orders we ordered a wet burrito with green sauce and green enchiladas they brought both dishes with red sauce and I ordered steak fajitas and the steak was bloody raw. I sent those back and got chile rellanos which were rubbery and not even fried. On top of that it was extremely pricey. Needless to say we will not be going back there again. I really wanted to like this place... the host was so friendly and it looked delicious based on the reviews. When we ordered we got the empanadas, then we waited and they didn't come back to take our order for like 16 minutes. It wasn't even busy, but I mean that wasn't a big deal but with a combo of factors it made our experience mid.. I will say the empanadas were delicious, so I was thinking that was good sign so I got the cheese enchiladas after waiting for a while, and the molé sauce was yummy, but the rice had hard bits, and not in a toasted rice kind of way more like some pieces maybe undone? And then the beans had this weird metallic/sour taste. Then after all that when we're paying I see on the check it was $2 to sub cheese instead of chicken for the enchiladas. It wasn't noted on the menu and felt like a sneaky tack on.. I don't even get how cheese is more since it cost less than chicken? So I ended up paying a little over $20 for cheese enchiladas.... I just feel like that's incredibly over priced for the small portions you get. My bf did not like the meats in his taco trio, he notes that the chicken especially almost made him gag. I really wanted to like this place and find a new Mexican spot but I just did not have a good experience. :( but I'm open to trying it again and if my experience changes I'll update my review. read more

Decided to give this place a try since it changed ownership (strongly disliked La Placita). We were hoping there would be an improvement in the food but unfortunately that was not the case. The salsa was the worst I've ever had, even the jar of Pace salsa from the store is better tasting than this one. I ordered the carne asada tacos and I couldn't eat them all because the meat had such a weird sour taste. My kids got burritos and they couldn't finish them either because of the weird taste of the meat. It was a very expensive disappointing meal. We went on Saturday and it was PACKED. A lot of people were turned off by the wait (which was no more than 30 minutes) and left, but we stayed because we were so happy that they were busy like that! Good for them! The service was fantastic, everyone we spoke to was able to help out when we needed it and were so sweet. Food was great and quick, even though it was busy. Been here with the family a couple of times now on the recommendation of friends. As other reviewers have mentioned, the rice and beans are the same as La Placita Cafe served before closing. The salsa that comes with the chips tastes like picante salsa out of a can, blended with pepper. Our server on the first visit recommended asking for the spicy salsa next time We tried the green, and nope, that had the same bland fresh out of jar flavor. The Carne Asada plate was good.
