The Candy Lady is definitely one of my must stop places when visiting New Mexico!!! They created the "blue meth" aka blue rock candy for the TV show Breaking Bad and it's actually super tasty!!! It's a small little shop but they have a good assortment of things besides the rock candy. They have fudge and the day I went, they were passing out free samples of it. They also have a section with "naughty" themed chocolates and another section where you can purchase Breaking Bad and New Mexico themed souvenirs. I bought a Los Pollos Hermanos shirt on a previous visit. The staff has been very kind on both my visits and they even let you use their single bathroom which is nice of them to do. If you're a breaking bad fan this is a must stop spot when in New Mexico. There's other breaking bad spots to check locally. This one sells candy with one specifically looking like the blue crystal from the show and was used in it. They have a ton of merch and pop up stuff for photos. I tried the mint Oreo candy and a cookie both were good as was the rock candy and I'm not a fan of candy usually but they all passed the flavor test. Great little store, everyone inside is very nice and they have lots of free fudge samples. Came here to get the Breaking Bad candy for gifts, ended up getting shirts too. Prices are reasonable, only complaint is the parking lot kind of sucks for a truck. I've lived here for 6 years, I'm glad I finally came. So at the time, I had no idea that this place was the place that made the fake meth for Breaking Bad. I'm going to tell you something that may shock you... I've never seen Breaking Bad. Coming to Albuquerque, people asked if we were going to see any Breaking Bad things and I was like I don't know because I've never seen the show. Pure shock on people's faces but alas, never seen it. So, walking in to this shop, I was a bit confused about all the Breaking Bad stuff in the doorway. I thought I was coming to an old timey candy shop. I just took it as they are proud of Breaking Bad being filmed in their hometown (I mean I get freaking excited whenever I see my college featured in movies.) It wasn't until I came to write this review that I noticed people mentioning getting some "meth." If you want that blue rock, definitely come here, they have some for you. I fully wasn't expecting the X-Rated portion of this store. My bf wanted me to get a chocolate phallus for my mom but WHAT?!?! I couldn't do that. He mentioned it to her when we got home and I regret not getting one for her, she says she would have loved it. There aren't just phalluses either, plenty of other "naughty" bits. A must-visit for Breaking Bad fans! I was on a road trip from Miami to Seattle and I wanted to go through New Mexico just to visit Albuquerque because I am a huge Breaking Bad fan. This place is located in the old town and is in the main touristy part of the old town. You will see many Breaking bad reference as soon as you enter this shop. The staff here is super nice. They made the infamous "meth"(blue ice candy) for a few seasons of the show. I got one small bag of it and also got other candy stuff. They have so many fudge flavors and for few for myself. They were delicious. Irrespective of if you are a fan of the show, you should visit this shop and try their delicious candy. read more

I really want to do a Breaking Bad tour in and around Albuquerque but this wasn't quite the visit for it. Instead, I got a glimpse of Breaking Bad 'paraphernalia' while walking around this area of ABQ. I totally took photos with the cardboard cutouts and the trays of blue rock candy and I most definitely purchased some as souvenirs for myself and friends. There are plenty of other Breaking Bad items available for purchase including shirts and mugs but I thought they were a bit overpriced. A little hide away a few hundred feet from the plaza in Old Town. Having a huge sweet tooth, actually more like sweet teeth. Candy is always an option. In we go and find a small shop loaded with sweets, one case is nothing but various flavors of their handmade fudge. There were hard candies, chocolates in dark, milk & white varieties. Chocolate covered fruits & clusters plus licorice. The chocolates are handmade in the shop. Talk about fresh! There are flavors unique to New Mexico as well as old favorites. There's also an adult section where you can buy - well you get the idea. We made it out of there with fudge, clusters and hard candy - each being delicious and worth the stop. When we visited on a Saturday the place was super packed inside, so was hard to move around and check out the products here. And the check out line was long. In addition to candy, they do sell other gift items like Breaking Bad tee-shirts, mugs, hats, etc... There's also a section in the back of the shop where they set up a photo opp area, with life-size cutouts of Walt and Jesse and a baking sheet of blue crystal, as if you're helping cook meth. The Candy Lady is an Old Town classic. I had always wanted to go in, but glad it was so close by after our Breaking Bad tour. The "blue meth" candy is quite recognizable. But, on this day we got several of the dark chocolate piñon clusters. Soo good. They were definitely big and well worth the price. To round it up briefly: The COVID lady. Went in for the old town stroll. She was walking around the store and selectively giving out southern comfort spiked egg-nog (which I'm not sure is legal) to customers not wearing a mask. She repeated encouraged customers to not wear a mask and cited having some super-duper air filtration system. None of the employees were wearing masks either. Beliefs are beliefs but having this sort of behavior is plain irresponsible especially in an establishment that makes food. It's almost as bad as people not washing their hands or tainting food. I also thought it was kind of gross that, due to her not wearing a mask and policing the area to encourage masklessness, that I noticed she literally has one lone survivor tooth and talks all molacha. I got really grossed out after this and left. Yeah I know she did the Breaking Bad meth for the film and yadda yadda, but I honestly don't think much of this place anymore after what I witnessed last night. There are other local chocolate shops that I'd rather support. The candy genitalia was another sketch area as well. I find it surprising that the area is not further cordoned off to prevent children from seeing it. There are a couple signs saying 18 and over, but it is not hard to see all the chocolate PPs and chichis from the main walkway. My husband and I made a quick stop while in Albuquerque. We had a few hours to spare so we drove around to look at some Breaking Bad sites before our long drive back to Austin. Our final stop before lunch was in Old Town. We located The Candy Lady shop very easily. Which if we had more time to spare, we would have looked more around Old Town. Once inside the shop, my husband and I looked around. We decided on a Tshirt, a Breaking Bad shot glass, mug, and magnet. The Candy Lady was extremely nice and talked to us about the show. We both laughed and agreed that the lady at Walter White's house is not the greatest. We also learned that Breaking Bad never copyrighted their stuff where Better Call Saul did. If you are visiting Albuquerque, go get yourself a treat! I took my brother on a "tour" of Old Town, and we had a blast when we were invited to have a "Breaking Bad" photo shoot. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the gentleman who assisted us that day, but he was super friendly and helpful. He took our pictures, let us sample some of their sweets, and made a special package for my brother, who was taking some fudge back with him to Brazil. Five stars for CAKE! I recently attended an event where some of the best food vendors in Albuquerque were sharing their wares and . . . providing information on their local businesses. My favorite, by far, was a candy business that has been around since the dawn of time. I wrote a review 11 years ago on their "questionable" candies. Nothing has changed - they still have questionable candy. But, at the event, The Candy Lady was there with a beautiful CAKE! Yes, cake, not candy. So, I decided to give it a try. I was sure it couldn't match up to their wide assortment of candy, but hey . . . never judge a sweet before you've tasted it. OMGoodness! This cake was like a soft cloud. Melt in your mouth goodness. I am generally more of a fruit pie fan, but I have to admit this was one of the very BEST cakes I have ever tasted. And, I have tasted a lot. So . . . down to the shop on San Felipe in Old Town I go . . . they better have added this cake to their extensive sweet collection because I am in love. read more

So it seems fitting that I am doing the first review as I have been trying to get my hands on those little baggies of the "blue stuff" since I was in town for Xmas two years ago and the 3x I have been back since...turns out the 4th time is the charm here! I happened upon their new location when I was passing through and as luck would have it, The Candy Lady herself greeted me at the door! I cannot convey enough how nice this woman is! You can tell she really cares about her product, image, and most importantly, her customers! If you are looking for any kind of Breaking Bad paraphernalia, this is your place! They have merch, those little baggies of the blue stuff, and they even offer a Breaking Bad location tour! And The Candy Lady will most graciously oblige you w/a photo op sporting a Heisenberg hat and holding a bin of "Blue Sky" not only Breaking Bad, but also some fake Benjamins! Now on to the chocolates! I only had a Grand Marnier truffle and a dark chocolate candy ginger, but both were super delish! You can tell the top notch ingredients and can definitely taste the quality! My only thing was that the gal that rang me up didn't tell me the price per item before she did even though I asked, so I had some sticker shock when those two pieces rang up for $8! They were really really good, but $4/piece was a little too rich for my blood. In any case, I had a blast and was so happy to have visited the new location! The quality of the treats is fantastic and I got to try a few samples of fudge that were also great (and I am not a fudge person). They also make it a point to not "cross-contaminate" so every product is made separately to avoid harming people w/food allergies. Highly recommend a visit! read more
