I stopped by Celina's Biscochitos for the first time and immediately fell in love. The shop itself is super charming and welcoming the moment you walk in. The biscochitos are so delicious and honestly some of the best I've had. You can tell they're made with care and tradition behind them. They also sold local products such as Pinon coffee and lavender lotions and gift sets from Los Poblanos, which is right down the street from them. What really made the experience special, though, was meeting the owner, Celina. She was so kind and genuinely welcoming, offering samples and chatting with me! That personal touch makes such a difference and is exactly why I love supporting small businesses like this. If you're anywhere near Albuquerque, this spot is 100% worth the visit. I would say we've been going to Salina's for at least 15 years. Our first time tasting her delicious Biscochitos was at the balloon fiesta when they were giving out samples. From that point forward we've been hooked. We've moved away from New Mexico, but anytime we come back, we load up on all the different flavors and share them with our friends. First time visiting, and it definitely won't be my last! This quaint store has the absolute best biscochitos and an amazing selection of local knick-knacks. I even picked up a few Christmas gifts during my visit. The only downside was the staff--it felt like they weren't very friendly or perhaps i should say selective about who they were friendly toward, which made the atmosphere a bit less inviting for me personally. I love supporting local (in which I don't mind paying a little more for) and have always wanted to stop by, but a facebook post advertising their white chocolate dipped pumpkin biscos sent me in. I went the Friday before Christmas- they were busy, but the shop smelled so good. They had all kinds of little gifts ranging from hot chocolate bombs, coffee, tamales, various mixes, and what they're famous for- biscochitos. The employees were friendly and helped me find what I needed. I ended up with a dozen of the white chocolate pumpkin dipped ($11.95?) and a dozen of the cranberry walnut ($10.95?). I've lived in Abq for 43 years and went in for the first time. It was awesome!! Can't believe it's taken me this long to visit. Top notch customer service from the moment we walked in. I was offered unlimited samples and when I told them I would be traveling with the cookies, the employee immediately offered to wrap them in bubble wrap for me. We came in here completely on accident. We had a little bit of time to kill and were looking for a spot to grab a quick coffee or tea. We thought this place would for sure have something (my fault, I thought it was a bakery which it sort of is) but it didn't. BTW, this specific area is in desperate need of a little coffee shop...bad. But I digress. The place has loads of biscochitos. Every kind that you could possibly imagine- lemon, green chile, red chile, Mexican wedding cookies, chocolate chip, etc. And in case you're afraid of committing to anything, they have samples as well. Yum! We bought a small bag of the Mexican wedding cookies (omg, literally melt in your mouth) and a variety pack of the biscochitos to have when we could actually get some coffee. The biscochitos are absolute perfection and while I was very skeptical of any of the flavors, they do an excellent job keeping it subtle enough that it doesn't at all distract from the real biscochito taste. It would be super easy to overdo it but the flavors all work extremely well. They also had some other very New Mexican gifts that would be perfect if you're travelling from out of town, sending to relatives/friends, etc. such as chile jelly, salsas, etc. Very cute, super clean place with the friendliest staff. Wowza!!! I did not realize how many unique combinations of biscochito were possible, and after sampling each one, I am absolutely SMITTEN!!!! Biscochito with red chile jam...who knew? But it's freakin' fantastic!!! The lemon ones...exceptional! What a thrill it was to join them for their three year store front celebration (and their expansion!) since previously operating out of the Mixing Bowl in the South Valley Economic Development Center. Wow cannot describe how wonderful this litte shop is! I have been following Celina's social media for several months before I was in Albuquerque and had the time to stop in. There are so many different choices of gift sets and cookies that they can be a little overwhelming to choose from. No problem. THEY have SAMPLES!! You are given a brief description of each as you pop these tasty bites in and your taste buds explode. I made the delicious difficult decision on two dozen of the original biscochitos (not too sweet, not too crumbly, just right) and a dozen of the RED CHILE!!! If you are looking for real authentic biscochito's, please come and get your dozen here! Don't be fooled by others. Green chili biscochitos. If you haven't tried them, highly recommend. Their basic variety is delish too. It reminds me of the biscotti my aunt used to make but in cookie form. Who knew that was even possible? The cookies are soft with a tender crisp and you can get lost in all the sweet and savory flavors. The biscochitos were very good--their taste was perfect. But in truth you get about a half dozen cookies in the dozen package because the biscochitos are so thin. Must be handled with care because they break easily. Maybe they can make both the thin ones and a bit thicker ones? "Biscochito" means "little biscuit" in Spanish. They need to be a little thicker to qualify, IMO. Doesn't mean I won't go back though...this place is New Mexico-unique. read more

David Grife and Celina Aldaz-Grife began this small business purely by accident. Celina was a local real estate agent with fifteen years of experience. Having her Grandma Maggie's'recipe, her first year in real estate, Celina began to give each one of her clients a small gift of biscochitos at Christmas time. She began to make them more and more each year for friends and family and one thing lead to another. David, Celinas' husband, began to help her make them. They both started out small and now they are beginning to see their business grow. They officially named their business in 2010 and received their business license. While working out of the community kitchen at the Mixing Bowl in the South Valley they began to see a fantastic growth in their business that they have graduated into their own location in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. These biscochitos are hands-down my absolute favorites in a crowded field. The red chile and the green chile,pecan are unbelievably good and addicting. Thanks for good old Yelp Events to get me over to taste great food, wine, and music, and cookies, or should I say Biscochitos! Grew up making and eating the traditional recipe in the shape of a flower but the last few times I made some, they just didn't turn out right. Celina's traditional samples were the perfect texture and taste in cute Saguaro and Sombrero shapes. Also tried the Green Chile Jam filled, White Chocolate Lemon Dipped, and their Wedding Cookie. All were excellent so I grabbed a couple dozen to go. I'm sure I'll be back since you need to drive past Celina's to get to the local growers market which starts this weekend! Larger sized bizcochitos than Golden Crown (probably 35% larger for about the same price).
