I will remember to start taking pictures. This gentleman is in my neighborhood and I have been over there and purchased their variety of empanadas whether it's lunch or fruit stuffed. They are fantastic. They are so personable there. You are absolutely appreciate their incredible service. The baguettes are breathtaking. So delicious. Saturday I purchased a plain sourdough and a green chili sourdough bread. Oh my gosh, a piece of heaven! I love it there baked the whole world style and they smell out of this world. I love bakeries and Bosque Bakery has so much to love. After a morning of birding, we needed to rest our legs and find a mid-morning snack. We were on foot and Bosque was located within walking distance of the Tingley Beach nature area. So we set our sights and walked the mile, enjoying meandering through neighborhoods until we found this gem. Bosque is located in a section of commercial buildings that have seen better times, close to residential homes and right next to downtown. It brings vitality to this neighborhood and is likely a bright spot for local residents. Bosque was just opening so we had our pick of treats. The pans of empanadas called our name. We enjoyed the kale-mushroom-guyere and mixed berry empanadas in the small, sunny sitting area. Just the right size for a hearty snack. Though we were only in the mood for snacks, we couldn't leave empty handed. So we bagged up one of each of six delicious cookies-of-the -day. All a treat, we really enjoyed the novelty of white chocolate green Chiles with a touch if sea salt. I also made the decision to hand carry a loaf of sour dough green Chiles all the way back to our air B&B to enjoy as toast for breakfasts. Totally worth the effort as this sourdough might be the best toast we've ever tasted. Albuquerque loves their green Chiles and Bosque Bakery makes it easy to sample this cuisine in their creatively, hand crafted items. The owner was friendly, engaging and helpful as we planned the next leg of our walking adventure. She clearly knows and enjoys this city. As a sourdough enthusiast I've tried many sourdough breads from different bakeries around town and Bosque Baking has the BEST sourdough in ABQ! They offer several different kinds of sourdough and types of bread which are ALL vegan. The whole wheat and green chili sourdough are my favorite. (It has been surprisingly difficult to find a whole wheat sourdough in town so I was super happy to see it's offered here.) The empanadas, pies, and cookies are unfortunately not vegan FYI. The inside of the bakery has a cozy/rustic aesthetic and the staff are very friendly. My favorite way to eat their sourdough is to cut a thick slice, pop it in the toaster oven for a bit, and spread some Earth Balance butter and sometimes jelly on it. Flaky, buttery, with a slight salty crunch. Good thing I only got one - I couldn't have stopped if I'd tried. I'm a bit of a bread snob - and their Green Chile Sourdough is as good as I've had. The crumb is light and soft, but the crust is crunchy and perfect. Just a hint of chile flavor - but a perfect accompaniment to a nice stew! I am definitely a snob when it comes to sourdough bread, but these guys never fail to impress me with their flavor diversity, quality, and freshness. I am a huge fan of the green Chile sourdough, which is sour with all the flavor and a hint of spice from the Chile's, and the walnut sourdough, which is sour and nutty. Bosque Baking Co is a local favorite and I can see why! After waiting in a 15 minute queue, I was lucky enough to snag a green chile sourdough loaf and a few chocolate chip cookies from their stand at the Corrales Grower's market. I love chocolate chip cookie and these were perfect. Deliciously chewy with lots of melty chips throughout, and finished with a light dusting flaky sea salt. Yum! I was lucky enough to try a few of their sourdough loaves too, namely the plain sourdough, green chile, and olive studded loaves. The olive loaf was my favorite - it has a bright and pronounced olive flavor. The green chile sourdough packs a punch. If you're a fan of spice, this one is for you. I've tried a number of Bosque Baking Company's items. This round included the cherry almond and green chilè cheddar scones. Both were good but I'd say the cherry almond stood out most from the pair. Better than any of their pastries is the bread. The green chilè sourdough is probably the most popular but I suggest trying their other varieties as well. While the other items have been good but never blown me away, I've throughly enjoyed every loaf of the walnut sourdough I've gotten here. To me this is a real find! There is something about the way these guys do things on their own terms that really appeals to me. Bosque Baking is off the beaten path and is providing a few people in the know with Artisan level bread and goodies. Its probably best to enter Bosque Baking in full chill mode. Then the elements of good music and relaxed pace will seem like a natural fit to you. Have a look at what may have just come out of the oven- empanadas both savory & sweet, cookies and of course the beautifully crusted breads. Everything is of limited quantities so you might get your feelings hurt once in a while when they don't have the Peanut Butter Cookie you rolled in for. The stand at the Growers Market probably gives Bosque Baking Company more exposure than the true street location does but this kind of quality can't hide for long. I hope they are ready to scale up and grow! Oh yeah I must tell you about the Roast Beef on Rye sandwich. It has Gruyere, caramelized onions & horseradish sauce. This is the kind of place, which has the wonderful baked goods you long for, plus it has a solid selection of fresh, wholesome dishes to either accompany their baked goods or have alone. Their menu is limited, but what they have is perfect. This is a great place to go for lunch. This place is perfect for those living or working Downtown. So why only the four stars? I haven't been to Bosque Baking since the pandemic lockdown. Prior it was a warm and friendly place with excellent empanadas and delicious bread. I went back this week and found that while the empanadas are still excellent, the customer service is lacking. We weren't greeted when we came in and it was apparent our presence was not appreciated by the woman who eventually sold us what we wanted. She actually glared at us and acted annoyed that we were there. I don't know who owns it now but I hope they realize that a smile and a simple "hello" goes a long way - especially with a local who supports local. read more

We picked up a loaf of Green Chile Sourdough at the Corrales Growers' Market today and were really impressed. We had been usually getting bread at the grocery store and I think that made me expect dried out bread. Well, this was anything but that. While the crust was a bit dark, the insides were super most and there was a lot of flavor. You could really taste both the sourdough and the green chile. I liked the combination and look forward to trying more of their stuff. We also got a carrot and chickpea empanada which had great flavor though maybe a bit salty on the crust. read more

We live in New Mexico, I have eaten these most of my life but NEVER have I had empanadas that are so rich and flaky and the fillings are superb! Today I had the spinach and also the mushroom and couldn't believe how tasty! Now let's move on to cookies. Red chile is so good in a cookie! These have this nice blend of sweet and heat. After every bite you get a nice hit of heat! The quadruple chocolate cookie should win cookie of the year. It's so rich and chocolaty! Men, if you have a gal who loves chocolate, you will WIN with these cookies! Today I tried oatmeal, cranberry molasses and again, another winner! My favorite is the South Valley Sourdough but I occasionally indulge in their green chili, too. They may have doubled the menu, but it's still tiny. 5 sandwich options, maybe 8 or 9 other items. Period. The service is astonishingly slow - i was here on a Saturday about noon. There were 2 other customers besides me. And it still took 30 minutes to get a turkey sandwich to go. I'm not kidding. The sandwich was pretty good (not quite great), and the chicken empanadas were nice and tasty, but way over priced at $4 per empanada. Loved this place! Probably the best artisan breads in town. Their green chile sour dough is to die for. But the real star is their Carne Adobada Empanada!! Yep, they have savory empanadas here. And the best I've ever tasted. Aside from baked goods they also have a few sandwiches, the turkey is the only one I've tried and I love that its actual turkey. Price is not cheap but not horrible either, 4$ an Empanada and about $5 for bread. But obviously worth every penny. The owner is awesome and you have to respect their participation in growers market, farmers market etc. The only reason their lacking that last star is because of their hours. They are only on site wed- fri because during the weekend their running around the markets. Which is a bummer for me since I crave them all week long. Since moving to Duke City my lady and I have been looking for the right loaf of bread. In Seattle we lived right next to a great bakery and got quite spoiled with thick, hearty bread. Upon our arrival here we were quite disappointed to find that none of the grocery stores we went to had good fresh bread. Then one day at the downtown growers market we came across this little gem. The bread is great! Today was their first day (this season?) of having their retail location open. It is a splendid little cafe and bakery. They had some great jazz playing, the folks were very nice, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. My only regret was that I didn't have time to stay and hang-out. read more
