Spacious place with nice decor, the menu looks good, and you wonder why the place is so empty... But then your waitress comes, and you understand. Worst service ever! - For starters, our waitress said early on she didn't want to take separate checks although we were a relatively large group. Because she was so annoyed by this, we decided to merge checks so that she would only have 2 checks for the whole group at the end. He reaction was to roll eyes and complain repeatedly about having to split into two checks. - Second, as people were arriving to our table, she observed that our group was following the protocol to avoid contracting the coronavirus in a public place. When she saw this, she criticized the guests for doing so and said "we don't care about the virus here, let's hug", and attempted to hug someone who had just arrived to the table. You don't have to be very smart to know that this sends a really bad message to the public about the health practices at this restaurant. In this time of stress for the restaurant industry, sending the message that YOUR restaurant is one that doesn't take measures to avoid the spread of the virus means less business, especially with all the local competition sending the opposite message and taking extra precautions to reassure customers and have them come in. - Second, she took our orders and later didn't know who had ordered what. In fact, she even brought food that nobody had ordered and tried twice to give it to someone who had not received her food yet. So bizarre! - As we were trying to have dinner and talk with each other, she kept coming every 5-7 minutes to talk about herself, her horses, and to rant about how aggravating it was to take separate checks and how much she didn't care for our concern about the Coronavirus. She would say things like "I don't care about the coronavirus", "would you like to share some cake for dessert or you don't do that because of the virus?", "we don't do the coronavirus thing here", "if you like the food, you can personally tell our chef, but wait... nooo, you won't do that because of the virus!". Her episodes of disrespect and overall inappropriate behavior kept happening every 5 to 7 minutes!!! We couldn't have a normal conversation all evening because she kept interrupting with this! - Later, ONE person asked for a box at the end. She boxed the food and then forgot who the food belonged to. At this point, you wonder if she is under the influence of some substances - When the checks came, they were wrong!! Really? After consolidating into 2 groups only? Not only did she bring them wrong but also made it clear that somehow we had to figure out the payment among ourselves and work with what she had brought to us. Was she trying to send a message or was she just plain incompetent as a waitress (can't be polite, cannot serve the right food, doesn't have good food handling practices, can't get the check right either?). Whatever the case, it certainly didn't give us a good image about this restaurant. At the end, we had to leave and go somewhere else to be able to have a normal conversation with each other. In the winter it's a wonderland. I'm the summer, you can sit outside in the patio near a two story waterfall. They finally have a good chef who consistently makes me happy. The prime rib was great, just order the small one! My husband and I shared the large order and it was almost too much. The lobster ravioli is always good. What has happened to The Cabin? I've been going there for years. Haven't been there in 8 months due to move but always take family there for Christmas. The place is absolutely gorgeous but our service was HORRIBLE. Waitress came up complaining about being over worked. Forgot bread, forgot one of our oil dishes. 3 got sandwiches,1 got soup,I got an appetizer. Everyone was finished when I got my meal. Didn't get drinks we ordered. This time, the tables were packed so closely together that we could hardly move between tables. The servers even had difficulty navigating between tables. We asked to move to another table and were told there were no other tables available, even though we could see that there were. The only option for ordering was a buffet, a detail that should have been shared with me when a made the reservation. Although it was 11:00, there were no brunch options. Imagine a cozy log cabin with worn wooden floors, a beautiful fireplace with white linens and candles on the table--rustic elegance at its best. It truly is lovely (if they would only get rid of the big screen tvs in the bar. ) However, the food leaves something to be desired. So I have updated my review after a second visit within 9 days. The Christmas decor still is awesome. The service and food preparations are not however. We had to ask for menu's, the drink service was very slow and the place was empty. My wife ordered a a salad with salmon on top as an adder. The salmon came out well done and had a charbroiled look to it so the kitchen had to know they over cooked it and they did. But they served it anyway. Too many issue to really spend my time to note here. Would not go back. We had a fun dinner last night with friends of ours. The food was very good. The best part was that the owner(s) had amazingly decorated every nook and cranny. This is easily the greatest display of Christmas decorations We had ever seen in a restaurant. Wow. Let me just say this to sum it up. DONT EVER GO HERE and PLEASE DONT EVER EAT HERE!!! First, we spent 300 dollars for a dinner package. A little much, but fine if it was worth it. This place looks like it's right out of 1820. I couldn't enjoy my massage because the floor freaked every time the therapist took a step. The restaurant? ::puke:: the 35 dollar prime rib came out cold after waiting 53 minutes for the food to come out... NO EXAGGERATION. I order a Conway's Irish ale and he date on the bottle was March of 2015.. yes 2015.. that's 3 years old! The server had the nerve to ask me if I tasted it to see if it was good. The beer has no preservatives and it's 3 years old!! No way I tasted it. The butter was FREEZER BURNED! Horrible service, long wait, stale beer, way over priced. It's been part of my family's holiday tradition for many years to dine at Mario's Cabin. Unfortunately, after Friday night's service, that tradition has ended. Mario's has ridden far too long on a reputation it no longer earns. Yes, the food is delicious (compliments to the chef and kitchen team) but what the company fails to understand is that when people choose a fine dining establishment, they are buying an EXPERIENCE and food is only one aspect of that and NOT the most important when you're treated unprofessionally and unkindly. The restaurant was nearly half-empty when my sister, two family friends, and my eighty-year-old mother and I arrived for our 6 p.m. reservation. We have, every year, requested to be seated in the room with the piano and every year are told that specific locations cannot be reserved. So when we observed a round table set for 5 waiting, we were surprised to hear from Trisha that it was "reserved," but not for us. We asked how that could be when tables in specific rooms were not able to be reserved but received a very evasive answer about "auto-generated" seating. After our group was seated at a long table for 8 in the back room, my sister learned from a server that the table for 5 we requested would not be used for 90 minutes. It was, in fact, intended to be empty from 6 until 7:30 p.m.! After some negotiating and promising to leave before the 7:30 seating, we were moved to the desired table and thought our issue resolved. Then I overheard our new waitress being told that we needed to be out by 7:20 and she spent the rest of our time there approaching us in a nervous and rushed manner. Trisha asked us to please leave by 7:20 so they had time to reset. We agreed, wishing to show our gratitude for the one person who seemed to understand how to treat guests. We ordered, dined (even sharing a dessert) and were waiting on our server to pick up the check when the maître d approached the table. This was the first I had seen him. He had not seated us, yet as he leaned over me reeking of tobacco, he literally hissed that we had one minute to leave the restaurant. Before I could reply, our friend said "Are you kidding me? Is this how you treat your guests?" The maître d replied, "We had a deal," at which point I directed him to the waiting check, noted that it was 7:19 and it was US waiting on them. He replied that he'd already been waiting five minutes to approach us. (WTH?) Our friends told him they lived in Aurora and would never return. My sister and I acknowledged the same. As we gathered our coats to leave, the woman dining behind us with her boyfriend/husband said she could not believe how we'd been treated and that she'd never come back and the table of six seated in front of the piano said they had requested the piano room and had none of the issues we'd experienced but after seeing how we were treated would never return. Essentially, the entire company dining in the piano room witnessed the bad behavior of the staff. I do want to clarify: both Trisha and our server were above reproach; it was clear the manager on duty was directing (yes, we were told this) and the maître d seemed to enjoy bullying us. As we left, we noted that the Cabin was still about half empty and no one was seated at the bar or waiting to be seated. We decided to wait outside the entrance to see who could be destined for our former table that was SO important. Alas, at 7:40 the mysterious diners had yet to arrive. We decided to depart, hopeful that they were treating the Cabin to a dose of its own lack of consideration. As someone who has worked with restaurants to create a wonderful experience from start to finish, everything I experienced at the Cabin (from the attitude of the person who handles reservations and on) is in direct contrast to what I advise. If the owner wants to survive the next few years, I strongly advise new management and proper training in good customer service. The complete lack of kindness and professionalism indicates this team shows little possibility. From the secrecy around reservations, to the lack of good business sense in knowing you give your guests what they request whenever possible (AND with kindness, which should go without saying), I can say this was far and away the worst dining experience of my life. read more

Oh boy. Where to start. I always like to see if an establishment is merely going through a tough period...or if they are on their way to a certain demise. It's been years, and while I rooted for them to pull through, The Cabin is no longer the place it was in its glory day. We used to enjoy a full evening here listening to the piano, enjoying a pre dinner cocktail relishing in such a lovely environment. Truly, you feel as if you were in a mountain resort in a charming European hamlet. At the holidays, I have never seen a prettier dining room. The service here though...has just become more laughable. The snooty staff was so rude as we were turned away. Yes, I suggest we make a reservation...ELSEWHERE. The parking lot wasn't even full. I can only hope they had a LOT of reservations arriving soon. It was just the two of us. I can't vouch for food (as of late) because the last time we were there, we only had drinks. Lady bartender was nice enough. I hate to see other reviews echoing the experience of rudeness. We have been going here for over 20 years and even rented the courtyard and a big party room for a huge birthday party. The cabin had gotten pretty bad up until about 2 years ago when the current chef came to the restaurant. We've gone for lunch, happy hour, or dinner around 8 times over this time and have had really good food. The service has been well intentioned, but a little clumsy at times. First off, a major positive of The Barn is the atmosphere. The interior finish is constructed from a disassembled Barn from the 19th Century making it a very relaxing environment that's suitable for casual or more formal dining. It's particularly cool during the holidays (Christmas for me), and no matter your faith, I believe you'd find it inviting and beautiful. Our experience this afternoon was no different from others. Our very pleasant waitress couldn't find a wine list. Once the bottle was ordered, no wine opener could be located. Not a big deal, just a detail thing that I would blame on the restaurant management rather than her. We were dropping in for appetizers without a reservation and had to sit at the bar. No problem, but she had to work all of her reserved tables, and us, and the bar, and any other walk ins with two other servers. Staffing problem? Anyhow, the appetizers were great: Crab cakes 5 stars Bruschetta 5 stars Crab soup 5 stars Meatballs 5 stars Previously, we've loved the following dishes: seafood de mare, porterhouse, filet mignon, porterhouse, and halibut are a few that come to mind. All five stars. Why the 4 star overall rating? Essentially, I see a lot of opportunity for this restaurant to be managed better. Get new menus made (not the food, just the menus), make sure the bar has all the tools the servers need, staff the restaurant correctly, get draft beer taps, refresh the wine list to include a better blend of Old World with New World. Since moving to NE Ohio 8 months ago, I have found that sometimes the level of service leaves a lot to be desired. But I have never been treated so rudely by waitstaff and the manager of the Cabin. After reserving 2 months ago for 17 people and being assured we could get separate checks due to it being a singles group, we were chastised that it was impossible and the manager actually brought a sign to show us like we are idiots. The food was terrible and overpriced. When I was served mussels with no bowl for shells, waitress just smiled and said I know. Then when our 2 hour window was up (we were told in advance and that was fine) we were yelled at for not leaving fast enough. We were still paying our checks! Looking forward to meal after being cooped up for 3 months. Had reservations Saturday, June 13th for 5:30 on the patio. At 6:05 after being completely ignored, left. There were a table of four and another with two, all receiving great service on the nearly empty patio. During our wait, 3 servers walked by repeatedly, making eye contact, but dismissing our presence. We have eaten there on many occasions, but never again. In forty years I have dined at hundreds upon hundreds of fine restaurants, this was by far the most rude treatment I have ever received. The dining rooms are beautiful at Christmas time! We walked in around 3:00, got a little table for two. Waitress greeted us, we asked if they have Coke or Pepsi and she said neither it was just pop. So she said "oh just try it" so we got a diet and a regular and it was completely flat and when we told her that she said "yeah that's what everyone's been saying I just wanted to check." So neither one of us drank our pops, it took her over 10 minutes to get back to us so we could get waters and we asked if they were going to change out the carbon for the pops and she said "I guess not." Then it took her another 20 minutes to get back to us so we could order. We ordered the chicken Caesar salad and the chicken Asiago pasta. Both were very good. The service was so slow for a mid afternoon it was comical. I would go there for drinks at the bar or to get a to-go dinner. Also the waitress kept touching us, which would be annoying without COVID. Sadly, they kept the Early American giant flat screen TV showing cartoons. We started with a calamari appetizer. It was odd. The calamari was tender and breaded, but really soft. Was it fried? Was it previously fried, then steamed or baked? Was it sprinkled with crumbs, then baked? It certainly wan't fried, then brought to the table. Hmm... The waitress was kind enough to bring a bowl of buttered pasta for Herself. She was also brought the scallops than Mon Cher Chou ordered. Sadly, she did not bring me the roast pork fillet I ordered, but instead the steak. She was kind enough to correct the mistake immediately. The scallops were OK. The roast pork was some of the best I have ever tasted. Beautifully seasoned with fresh herbs, juicy and expertly roasted. That would have bumped the place up to 3 or 4 stars in and of itself had it not been for the debacle that was the risotto. The "special" risotto was anything but. I swear it tasted like Uncle Ben's The rice grains were not aborio (they couldn't have been!!) and they were rough-- like parboiled rice. If you are going to feature risotto, please make risotto. Look in any cookbook. It is time consuming, but not difficult. Dessert consited of an oddly charred sponge cake, the non-charred bits of which were really good, ice cream and chocolate sauce. The funny thing about this place is that people over 60 love it. LOVE. Perhaps it is the very charming space, or the live piano music, or the old fashioned menu. This place used to be OK but I think they've lost their minds with the prices. Lobster ravioli was priced at $32. (I've had it before and it's nothing fantastic.) Just about all the entrees are over $20. I tried the angel hair with marinara ($14) and compared to Cafe Toscano just down the street, it was average. I always make a point to eat here sometime over the holiday season. The holiday decorations are amazing. Meeting a friend for lunch, it was quite busy but we were fortunate they had a table despite no reservation. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass. Service is friendly & attentive. My friend had a delicious pasta dish that was beautifully presented. I had Caesar salad with grilled salmon. The salmon was absolutely perfect! Our chicken was pink and the salmon was over-cooked, the vodka and tonic was flat (to which the bartender said "yeah I've been hearing that", so great).
