We have eaten two of the past three days at The Buttery, which is the in-house restuarant for the Lime Tree Hotel. I am not sure how it is not on Yelp yet (yay another 1st for me!), because the "word is out" for both the 26 rooms at the Lime Tree as well as many surrounding hotels and Locals!
Note that this place is small, five two-tops two tables of four or five people - so this is NOT a restaurant for big groups. They are on OpenTable and even the hotel recommends making reservations well in advance. We tried to get a reservation for Saturday and there were none to be had on the Monday before.
When we eat here again, I'll post pics of the menu and some of the food. So far, nothing we have had has been bad - or to put it another way, everything has been WONDERFUL!
They brew their own tea meaning that it not in a bag, the pot has loose leaf tea steeping in the hot water. I know this is not uncommon, but this was the only place in England on this trip that we enjoyed this.
See my pic of the first day, where I got the Buttery Breakfast, which is two eggs cooked anyway you like, toast, potatoes, bacon, sausage, tomatoes and finally mushrooms. For £16 it is a breakfast fit for a hungry traveler! My mother enjoyed salmon and scrambled eggs over toast twice. My 2nd day I devoured the Stratticella on Toast (i.e. burrata cheese and sundried tomatoes). Again the presentation was almost as good as the taste.
Service is excellent, with complementary bottles of tap water at each table. read more
