Service was weak. I was bumped by our waitress twice. The recommendations weren't strong, and didn't do a good job managing expectations. When the focaccia was the best part that's not a good sign. It was good, since the cheese and olive oil was Devine and surprising. The sea bream was fresh and even enjoyed my friend who's normally not into seafood. But all went down hill. A lot of these reviews are old. I'm glad this place survived Covid but the food is nothing to rave about. I found this place via a recommendation from a friend that's a local. I was told it's authentic British food but the menu has sense changed to pizza and small bites. While the pizza was good, it was a little burned. I really liked this place, and I would recommend it. It's a little bit New York in concept - small (/sharing) plates which are quite inventive and quite fancy too. It's nice to see something a little different on the menu, although a fair few things on it didn't particularly appeal to me. I really enjoyed the oysters and the fried maris piper potatoes with aioli. Their mussels and buttermilk fried chicken were fine but not the best. Dessert was YUM - a sundae made of candied hazelnuts, rhubarb compote & tarragon ice cream - very cool & different! The restaurant has a really nice vibe - it's not too noisy, the staff are friendly, attentive and relaxed (which might translate to slow but they are very responsive if you catch their eye). I like the decor (although they may want to bear in mind that the cool black & white tiles in the loo need the odd swiff during the night). They have some nice cocktails too, and fairly reasonably priced (£6-7). I asked for mine non-alcoholic which I think they found pretty funny. I fully expected to be charged the alcoholic price but they billed it as an apple juice. Very nice! The small/sharing plates concept actually means the bill can add up pretty quickly, it was about £25 a head & we weren't getting wine. We did get quite a lot of food though! I've eaten here twice, the last today and the first just over two years ago and my, how has it gone downhill. Where before the menu had large hearty meals made with produce from the market it has now fallen into what appears to be little more than a high quality tourist trap. The great 'home cooked' feel and the quality of the produce is still there but but the portion sizes and fallen so much that you end up paying full main prices for a dish the size of tapas. We had two tiny dishes for around £30, if they were at michelin star levels perhaps this would have been allowed to pass but alas no. While perfectly decent there was nothing to distinguish the food from anywhere else. The cocktails were good with the ambience the same hustle-bustle self that it is has always been. The Manhattan really hit the spot but we were so dismayed that we had to complain (as we had also found a hair in the butter) which to their credit resulted in free dessert. I'm very sorry say that I can no longer recommend a place anymore, a place that used to really love. I fear that the only thing distinguishing this place, for dinner service at least, is its location. Sadface. read more

A friend had been raving about Elliott's for I don't know how long so she finally managed to arrange a time for us to go. We had guests visiting from foodie San Francisco as well so it was the perfect opportunity - a bit of touristy, buzzy Borough Market and a fab meal. Elliott's was amazing. This was one of the best meals I've had in London. We got a bunch of dishes to share. My favourites were: - Razor clams - tender, full of flavour. I was amazed at how NOT chewy they were - Chicken hearts with pancetta - the saltiness of the pancetta was a perfect pairing for the tender chicken hearts. I'm not an offal person and this was fabulous We also had scallops, plaice with cockles and samphire, polenta with chanterelles and some dried cure ham with peas and lettuce. This was my least favourite dish mainly because the peas were hard and undercooked. The service was friendly and chilled out but attentive. It's the type of restaurant you want to spend the evening, hanging out with your friends. It's fabulous! read more

This is an adorable restaurant and I was introduced to it by a friend. I met him and a few others there for a Sunday Brunch. There were 5 of us and 3 who wanted the set menu of the day which included Pork Belly. Two of us however did not particularly want or care of this dish. Unfortunately the server explained that for it to be served the entire table had to order the set menu. At this point we all looked at the regular menu which offers each item that was on the set menu. There was a "scratch your head" wait just a minute moment and then asked the server the reason for this requirement. He stated it was a demand of the kitchen and that was the end of his explanation. (forgive me but I must point out it's typical British Customer Care fashion) The three who wanted the set menu items ordered them separately which was acceptable apparently by the kitchen, thankfully so. You don't want the kitchen made at you, I've worked in restaurants and I know all too well. Anyway, I ordered other menu items as did my friend. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a gnocchi type dish and we ordered the potatoes and garlic bread for the table. All were sinfully good and the bread is amazing. It arrives at the table still wrapped in paper and when you break it open the aroma is seductive. The entire table enjoyed their meals and retained their memberships to the happy plate club. Elliot's sits right along Borough Market which is a fantastic setting. Y'all this American Southerner will certainly return but just recall not to go for the set menu unless everyone's appetite is in harmony. read more

My firm closed the office a couple weeks ago on a weekday for an offsite event that I sort of, wasn't really required to attend (maybe). I thought, perfect, I'm going to try the coveted weekday lunch exclusive burger at Elliot's. Service was great. I was lucky and got seated at the bar immediately upon entry. My dining partner and I both ordered the burger. Probably the best looking burger I have seen. The patty was good with a nice char, and beefy, funky dry-aged flavor. I felt that the dill butter was a little too rich for me though. The pickles on the side were of the sweet variety and did a reasonable job of cutting through the richness of the burger between bites. I probably would not come back for the burger, but I would come back to try other dishes on the menu. read more

As a Borough Market regular, my Saturday pastime for the past few months has been to check on the progress of Elliott's. Peaked with intrigue, I was delighted that it was open for business officially this week. Although it was hard to bypass Monmouth for my mid-week coffee treat, I am glad that I did. Elliott's has a wonderful, open atmosphere and friendly and accomodating staff. The natural colours and minimalistic decor lend the place a relaxing vibe and a place to linger over conversation. Lunch, brunch and dinner is also served and I will be returning shortly to try out all services. The food is the real star. With a mission to source as much from the market, it's as if all the stars of the market collided in one place. I had a heavenly chocolate bun and fought my husband for bites of his cinnamon bun. The chocolate bun consisted of a airy brioche swirled with luxe dark chocolate. The cinnamon bun was also light and topped with a crispy shell of cinnamon and sugar. Outshining the buns was the coffee. Coffee snobs of London unite: there's a new source for your fix. I tried the coffee black and trust me no milk or sugar is needed to enhance the deep roasted flavour and nuances of their single origin. This review is just for the Burger Bar pop-up across from Elliot's Café - although you can get the burger at the Café during weekday lunches. Instead of the more formal setting of the restaurant, the Burger Bar has gone the other way with an open grill, unfinished wooden tables, metal stools, and drinks in buckets of ice. It's a bit of an upscale picnic and I appreciate the open air atmosphere. Burgers are a fun, casual food and I much prefer someplace I can rock up in jeans and a tshirt and grab the beef with both hands. The menu is pretty simple here. You get the burger and fried potatoes for £10. That's it. The burger is simply assembled on a soft seeded bun and the condiments are limited to sautéed onions, cheese, and dill butter. The chefs aren't stingy with the butter so expect a bit of a messy meal although kudos to the bun for holding up throughout the entire meal instead of falling to pieces. The dill butter gives you a fresh springy note to balance out the richness of the patty and the sweet tones of the onions. The fried potatoes that accompany the burger had a good crispy crust and fluffy interior but seemed to lack something in the taste. More salt helped, but I can't help but think they could have added something to give them more flavour. I tried out the margarita and it was perfect for the warm summer night. Enough tequila to give it a bit without being overwhelming, it was a great choice to accompany the burger. Win! read more

Right next to Borough market, we entered and I could tell this was going to be good right from the start. We walked in, no reservation, shown to a table right away. Bustling ambience. The bread was excellent: sourdough, bags of flavour, great crust, good butter. Worth mentioning since good bread often does indicate a good meal will follow. Somehow the menu and the feel of the place reminded me of the St. John restaurants. Pared back, simple interior, no fuss but good service, great simple well thought out food with a liberal sprinkling of those bits of animal that are becoming more familiar menu items now (tongues and hearts etc). I started with beetroot and egg mayonnaise. I thought this might be a bright pink splodge but instead it was a generous portion of beetroot chunks with a poached egg bathed in mayonnaise in the centre with mustard and cress garnish. Simple and really worked together as a dish. We also tried sprouting broccoli with egg and brown butter and crab on toast. Both were great. Next I opted for the gurnard with chick pea and cuttlefish stew with a side of mashed baked potato. Perfectly balanced and flavourful. Good bottled craft beer to accompany. Didn't make it to deserts as we were all nicely satiated at this point. Service was good, to the point and friendly. A new addition on my list of places to go. read more

As someone mentioned earlier, the menu is simple - £10 for a burger and fried potatoes (to be clear, not chips or fries). So far, I would say the burger here is the best we've had in London. And we are picky! The dill butter is genius! We spent most of our meal trying to figure out what it was (pesto?) and then finally I asked once we had finished licking our fingers clean. The potatoes were decent, but made better by generous dips into their special mustard. Ultimately, the burger was good enough to outweigh the potatoes' mediocrity. I am excited to come back and try out their regular menu soon. If it's as good as their burger, then we are in for a treat! read more

Everything you'd expect in an established restaurant in the center of borough market. Fresh, fantastic quality and locally sourced produce... and balanced, flavoursome plates... ...but I think you need to check the menu before you go! It's just absolutely dreadful for vegetarians! I'm torn on this review as I went with a friend and had a 4 course meal with wine and had a blast of a time. Whilst we spent about £70 each, we were there for the duration of the evening, had a thoroughly amazing night and walked away, full and warm and fuzzy. Taking a date with dietary requirements there with me however was a complete disaster, they had very little on the menu for him and we had to leave after a plate each. I love the restaurant itself too, exposed brickwork, lovely intimate tables, a great place to meet if you fancy treating yourself. However it is a treat as the portion sizes are small (which I personally prefer), and the price tags are high. The staff are fantastic, friendly and have a very good knowledge of the food they serve and it's source. Great red wine selection too! I just felt a little put out by the fact that I took someone I wanted to impress there, and they really weren't impressed. It was also a shame as the staff were unwilling to make something that suited my dates diet, which I found to be very inflexible of them. read more

I am reviewing Elliott's solely on its beverages rather than its food, as I haven't yet eaten there. This is, hands down, the best coffee I've had. Ever. Granted, I am still a late-coming neophyte to coffee, but I've got a well-developed palate. Their Flat White has been repeatedly described by friends I have brought here as "orgasmic". These are not terms that they throw around casually, but for good reason. I wholeheartedly agree with them. Luckily, I live nearby so a change of underwear is readily available. The quality of their baristi is exceptional - exceedingly competent, and very friendly to boot. Nice touches include the fact that they sell loaves of bread out the front, as well as giving away free fruit which is just about to turn. That you can grab a free snack whilst getting a sublime coffee to take away with you is the icing on the cake. read more

You need to order about 3 and at 10 - 16 each, who can really afford to do that. I ordered the lamb rack with peach and my friend had the cuttlefish. The lamb was £14 and while had gorgeous flavours was just served too rare. I left about £10 of lamb on the plate. We also had their complimentary sourdough bread, which in retrospect was the highlight. If you are going order the salted caramel tart, it is incredible. read more

Elliot, I really really really wanted to love your offering at the Burger Bar pop up - have read fantastic reviews on your juicy burger, soft linseed bun... but I left feeling a bit disappointed! For a tenner, you get a nice thick 55-day aged beef patty with comte cheese, on a linseed bun, triple cooked potatoes, and a beer. The patty was cooked medium - whereas I prefer my patty to be cooked medium rare. To be fair, they are cooking over an open grill and serving a lot of people - if I specified for the patty to be medium rare, I'm sure they would have done it. It was juicy enough, but there wasn't much flavor to it. The bun was the biggest disappointment, as it was dry and crumbly. The potatos were more on the bland side, and not my favorite. There are plenty of favorable reviews on the burger popup, but unfortunately for me, I think I ended up going on one of their not-so-good days :( read more

A hidden gem right at Borough Market. Elliot's serves up one of the absolute best burgers I've ever eaten - i am quite an expert on that. A in-house baked brioche bun with a perfectly cooked patty and a creamy comté cheese. The fried potatoes are a masterpiece too. I love well-designed restaurants and this one does great on that issue too. It really is very beautiful. Simple but well appointed. And the light is simply breathtaking too. read more

Back again and this time the service as much improved, perhaps because I sat myself down at the bar. You really can't beat their cheeseburger and their selection of sparkling wines are the perfect accompaniment for a summer lunch. I've also been here for dinner and it was wonderfully reminiscent of a continental dinner. We stuck to small plates and everything was fresh and exquisitely prepared. At first we thought it a bit expensive but after years of eating around London, we've realized how rare it is to find such quality at this price point. It's a lovely place for lunch on a Wednesday (when the Borough crowds are at bay). The cold haddock and sweetcorn soup wasn't a hit though - my friend described it as "fish in cold, sweet custard". Interesting but not nice. My gnudi, which is essentially gnocchi with ricotta, was good if very very buttery - making me feel almost unwell by the final mouthful. Love Elliots. I have now been twice, once for lunch (try the cheeseburger & organic cider) & now I have also been for dinner. 3 of us went for dinner on a Friday night and it was fab. Amazing dishes from the Sicilian tomatoes, crab meat & monks beard to the lamb & pork belly. Absolutely delicious. I love the wine list and the deserts are definitely recommended! I attended this restaurant on the assumption that there were going to be large portions. How things have changed since my friend was a student. This establishment has now become an upmarket restaurant catering to the nouveau rich London Bridge Crowd. Not to say that the Haddock and aioli dish wasn't superb and tantalising the tongue palate, but the beef was minimal and overpriced. With Manhattans served in a Ln old vintage glass but far too sweet, this restaurant is obviously undecided on whether it is retaining it's rustic feel or moving completely into the high rise of what is now London Bridge. read more

Went again to the Borough market cafe the other day, the bread and the goat curd with honey were to die for! Went to Elliots with high expectations as I had heard a lot of good things about their burger. I got their cheeseburger with my friend who I had met for lunch. The burger was nice but on an overcooked seeded bun that was quite hard. The chips were a sorry affair. Mainly... because they are just maris piper little potatoes. It wasn't too bad actually but I got 7, yes SEVEN tiny potato's. I was astonished and the whole plate for over £10 was not good value.
